One of us: How the OlloNi SS1 companion robot augments family life

For decades, home companion and social devices have focused primarily on what they can do. Smart speakers can set alarms, coding toys make for fun STEM devices, and basic companion toys can perform dance routines or record and playback voices. But it’s more often the toys and devices with personality that stick around in the zeitgeist and people’s homes. The ones that make them feel something are the ones that last. For those curious to see what the next generation of companion robotics looks like in person, OlloNi will be at IFA 2026 in Berlin from September 4 to 8, where visitors can experience both the SS1 and L1 at Booth H1.2_174.

The OlloNi SS1 is designed to build on that pedigree and focus on what’s most important about a home companion robot: emotional intelligence. Leveraging the advanced power of artificial intelligence, the OlloNi SS1 can see, hear, and understand you and your family in ways other home robots can’t. Able to learn as it goes and become more useful over time, the OlloNi SS1 is the first companion robot designed to truly become part of the family.

There when you need it

Developer Ollobot describes the OlloNi SS1 as a companion robot, or a form of cyber-pet. It’s more than just a Furby that isn’t quite as annoying, though. This is an AI-powered device built specifically to make people feel seen and heard.

Aimed at elderly relatives living alone, single-income professionals who don’t have time for a traditional pet, or children who could benefit from additional interaction day to day, the OlloNi SS1 is a responsive companion that grows into its relationship. As it interacts with its new family, the SS1 learns their faces, voices, and preferences, changing and evolving beyond its base configuration - no two SS1 will ever be the same because of it.

That’s what makes it more of a cyber-pet than traditional robot companions. Ollobot’s companion robot can recognize every member of the family - both humans and animals. It can figure out habits, routines, and even emotional needs and patterns. That lets it learn to become a more useful member of the family, and more effective emotional support companion.

Fixing the problems

It’s not like the OlloNi SS1 is the first companion robot device, but where those devices tended to be passive devices waiting for a prompted interaction, the SS1 is proactive. With its multimodal inputs it can understand its environment, recognize the emotions of the people and animals it lives with, and engage with people directly in a more natural and immersive way.

To show how well it understands the family and can respond effectively, the SS1 employs an emotional display system made up of a proprietary 2+1 multi-screen design. The twin circular eye displays help manage its emotional expression, while the main screen is useful for imparting more complex information and for interacting with the robot directly. This keeps controls separate from emotional interaction, allowing the SS1 to operate and react independently to what’s going on around it.

True presence

Often modern technology can feel like a distraction, or an abstraction layer between us and the activities we’re enjoying. Instead of breaking out your phone to record something going on, you can simply rely on the OlloNi SS1 to do it for you. With its facial recognition and automatic capture system, it can detect and record key family moments like laughter, celebrations, or meetings between loved ones.

The onboard AI engine then automatically edits and curates these moments, sending them as shareable clips to trusted family devices. Instead of asking a family member to take your picture for you, just ask OlloNi to do it instead!

If someone can’t make it to the family gathering, OlloNi can help there too. This AI companion features remote viewing and two-way voice and video functionality, so you can have a loved one tap into the companion bot and use it as an avatar so they can join in with the fun. OlloNi can stay with the action, too, so it’s not just like a phone or video call; it’s closer to the real person being there with you and enjoying the fun.

This can also be useful for wellness check-ins with loved ones. Instead of having a bespoke device for calls and texts which aren’t always intuitive enough for older users, OlloNi makes it easier than ever to make sure they’re doing OK from a distance.

Your little pal

The Ollobot OlloNi SS1 is designed to fit right in with your family, whatever their needs are. For companionship with older relatives, to making sure everyone’s present at the Christmas table, to just reminding you to take an umbrella with you when it’s raining, OlloNi SS1 can become part of the family dynamic and make it feel more loving and present than ever.

As it grows with you, OlloNi SS1 is designed to become a true permanent feature of the family home. Learning, evolving, and becoming ever more embedded in the family unit.

Want to be one of the first to own one? Ollobot is showing off the early prototype at IFA 2026 in Berlin, running from September 4 to 8, if you want to get some hands on time before general release.
