Nokia's First Windows Phone 7 Devices: W7, W8
Earlier this year, Nokia announced its decision to make Windows Phone 7 its primary smartphone OS but made no mention of any plans for upcoming WP7 handsets. Now, we have rumors that the first Windows Phone 7 handsets out of Espoo will be the W7 and the W8.
According to Russian phone blogger, Eldar Mutazin, Nokia’s W7 will be based around the company’s X7 handset, and is similar to the HTC Mozart. It sports a Qualcomm processor and an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, and is believed to be the first Windows Phone 7 device Nokia will launch.
Meanwhile, the W8 will be a variant on the Finnish’s company’s N8 handset (pictured here) and will have a 12-megapixel camera. It will also have a Qualcomm chip inside (exact model TBD), and is supposedly coming in Q2 of next year.
Specs for the devices aren’t yet final, and Nokia supposedly has a total of 12 Windows Phone 7 devices planned for 2012 alone, so expect a lot more WP7/Nokia news in the coming months. The company is said to be trying to offer something different than what’s already available from competitors, and with a line that big, we imagine they’ll have a little something for everyone.
