Even more stars are checking into The White Lotus season 2! The next chapter of Mike White's HBO comedy is adding even more cast members to wallow in splendor at a lux resort. Aubrey Plaza and Michael Imperioli have already been announced and now F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hollander are joining them.
The White Lotus follows guests and employees at a tropical resort over the span of a week. However, the more time you spent there, the more you realized that things aren't quite as idyllic as originally presented. The first season took place in Hawaii and featured a stellar cast including Jennifer Coolidge, Connie Britton, Steve Zahn, Molly Shannon, and Murray Bartlett. The comedy was one of the funniest and most binge-worthy shows in recent memory on HBO.
The White Lotus season 2 will change locations and focus on a different group of characters (though Coolidge is returning).

The White Lotus season 2 release date speculation
While The White Lotus was initially announced as a miniseries, HBO renewed the series as an anthology. So season 2 and possibly beyond are in store for fans.
Creator Mike White previously expressed interest in continuing the show. In an interview with The New Yorker last July before season 1 premiered, White said he had already been thinking about what future episodes of the show could entail.
"My hope is that maybe HBO will want to do another round of White Lotus," he explained. "I feel like it might take place at a sister hotel, a different kind of seasonal thing. I think there’s another season in me that kind of has a different way into this that I think would be cool if they’d let me do this."
In the White Lotus season 2 announcement, HBO exec Francesca Orsi said, “Mike [White] has once again delivered a quintessential HBO show, and it’s the talk of the town. We were thrilled to hear where he wanted to go next, after closing this epic chapter in Hawaii, and can’t wait to keep following him wherever he takes us.”
As for when the White Lotus season 2 release date could be, the show is in the midst of filling out the cast and hasn't begun filming yet. Our best guess is that season 2 arrives in late 2022 or even early 2023.
The White Lotus season 2 episodes
The first season of The White Lotus consisted of six episodes, so it stands to reason that season 2 would follow the same format.
Season 1 aired weekly and season 2 is likely see a similar episode release schedule.
It also seems logical to assume that the hour-long episode length would remain the same, but again, it’s a bit too soon to say for sure.
The White Lotus season 2 plot
Here’s where things really get interesting! While the first season of The White Lotus took place at a gorgeous and luxurious resort in Hawaii, fans shouldn’t expect to return to the same location for season 2. This time around, we’ll be headed to an all-new resort in a totally new city. Where that is, nobody knows (at least not anyone besides Mike White).
That said, there are a few hints we can go on. White recently hinted in an interview with Vanity Fair that took place before the season 2 renewal that if he got to do future episodes of the show, he’d love to do them in different locations such as France and Japan. It might not end up being either of those places, but they both sound equally as exciting.
The White Lotus season 2 cast
As an anthology, The White Lotus will bring in a new cast for every season. There is at least one exception, though: Jennifer Coolidge will return for season 2. It's unclear if she'll be reprising the role of Tanya McQuoid.
That's not to say Coolidge will be the only season 1 star who will be back. As White told IndieWire: "I don’t think you can credibly have [all the Season 1 guests] on the same vacation again. But maybe it could be a Marvel universe type thing, where some of them would come back."
Meanwhile, White Lotus season 2 casting announcements have revealed some of the new players hitting the resort.
According to EW, Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) will be playing a character named Dominic Di Grasso, who is traveling with "his elderly father and recent college-graduate son." On January 10, 2022, HBO confirmed that Aubrey Plaza will be checking into The White Lotus for season 2. EW reports that her character, Harper Spiller, is on vacation with her husband and his friends.
Oscar winner and Mythic Quest star F. Murray Abraham is joining as Imperioli's elderly father. Adam DiMarco (Magicians) will play the college grad son, Albie.
Haley Lu Richardson (Recovery Road) is Portia, a young woman traveling with her boss. And Tom Hollander (The Night Manager) is on board in an unknown role.
