Purple RestorePremier Hybrid vs GhostBed Luxe mattress: Design

  • The Purple RestorePremier is a hybrid mattress
  • The GhostBed Luxe uses foam to create a spring like feel
  • Both mattresses have enhanced cooling layers

These mattresses have one key difference: one is a hybrid and one is all-foam. The GhostBed Luxe is a top-rated memory foam mattress built over seven layers and starts off a cool-to-touch cover made from phase change material designed to keep you super cool.

There’s then a half inch of Ghost ice fabric before an inch of gel memory foam which gives it its soft, contour feeling. There is then another Ghost Ice layer before a 2-inch layer of gel memory foam, 2-inch of ghost bounce foam which makes this mattress feel as though there are springs and finally a base layer of high-density base foam.

The Purple RestorePremier is one of the brand's best hybrid mattresses for hot sleepers with joint pain, and has a simpler construction starting off with a soft flex cover that is moisture-wicking and is treated with a antimicrobial. There are then just three internal layers starting with a 3 inch GelFlex grid, this keeps the spine in perfect alignment and has open cell channels which means air can flow freely.

It's also highly responsive so when you move, it instantly moves too. There’s then a layer of ultra comfort foam which has breathable properties so it won’t keep hold of the heat and finally a layer of CoolFlex coils which promote airflow and offers exceptional pressure relief.

Purple RestorePremier Hybrid vs GhostBed Luxe mattress: Comfort & support

  • The Purple RestorePremier Hybrid has two firmness options
  • The GhostBed Luxe comes in a medium-tension
  • Both mattresses good for all sleeping styles

The GhostBed Luxe is a premium mattress that may be all-foam but feels like it could be a hybrid. It uses a ghost bounce foam which gives it a springy feeling, which may make it a little too soft for stomach sleepers but overall this mattress does work with all sleeping style.

This mattress has a medium tension and sits at around 5.5 on the scale so it’s the softer end of medium but sleepers will love the supportive pressure relief combined with a near-weightless feel. There’s no way you’ll sink in to this mattress so moving around at night will feel effortless.

During our GhostBed Luxe mattress review our tester confirmed that it did an excellent job of regulating temperature and that this cooling feeling remained all night long. It also scored top marks when it came to motion transfer with no movement felt when tested.

The Purple RestorePremier also is super comfortable for all types of sleeper but side sleepers will find it the most supportive. It comes in a choice of soft or fir so you can decide which one best suits your sleeping style. But it’s the inclusion of the Purple GelFlex grid that really makes a difference.

This unique material is responsive and bouncy leaving you feeling like you’re sleeping on a cloud whilst still having that body hugging feeling that you need for exceptional pressure relief. The motion isolation isn’t as good as experienced on the GhostBed Luxe because of the inclusion of the foils but it’s not too bad that your sleep will be totally disturbed by a restless parter.

Purple RestorePremier Hybrid vs GhostBed Luxe mattress: Temperature control

  • The GhostBed Luxe has several cooling layers
  • THe Purple has coils that promote extra airflow

Cooling is the name of the game when it comes to putting the GhostBed Luxe against the Purple RestorePremier Hybrid. Normally all-foam mattresses don’t do a great job at keeping sleepers cool, but the GhostBed Luxe is the exception.

It because they use multiple layers of cooling foam to pull heat away from the body and disperse it in to the air for an all-night long cool sleep. There’s also the quilted Ghost Ice cover which stays cool to the touch no matter how long you lie on it.

The Purple RestorePremier also does a good job of keeping hot sleepers cool. Whilst it doesn’t have as many layers as the GhostBed Luxe it does have the unique GelFlex Grid which has a honeycomb design that allows for lots of airflow and this is combined with a coil support base. So whilst we wouldn’t say this is an active cooling mattress, it certainly does a good job of not causing any overheating issues.

Purple RestorePremier Hybrid vs GhostBed Luxe mattress: Which should you buy?

Buy the Purple RestorePremier mattress if...

You’re a combination sleeper: If you move around a lot at night and switch positions, this mattress is perfect. The GelFlex grid is so responsive that moving about is unlikely to wake you and its so effortless you’ll also not wake up with any aches and pains in the morning.

You want choice of firmness options: One size does not fit all when it comes to comfort so Purple offer a choice between soft and firm so you can choose your ideal firmness level. The firmness comes from the tension in the coils so the soft version will be bouncier where as the firm option is relaxed yet firm, so this won’t feel rock solid but there won’t be as much give.

You want something ultra-breathable: We rate the coolness properties of both of these mattresses but the honeycomb design of the GelFlex grid combined with the coils does mean that there’s no way hot air can get trapped within the mattress and then pushed back up to you. If you want a mattress with guaranteed good airflow then the Purple RestorePremier is the perfect choice.

Buy the GhostBed Luxe mattress if…

You like plush feeling bed: This mattress is medium firm so it will feel softer than you’d expect from an all-foam mattress.

You’re a side sleeper: If you sleep on your side you’ll love the body cradling comfort and high pressure relief this mattress provides. Whilst back and combination sleepers will also be comfortable on this mattress, side sleepers will especially benefit.

You share a bed: If you share a co-sleep or share a bed then you’ll love the exceptional motion isolation this mattress provides. You won’t feel your partner moving around at all on this mattress so kiss goodnight to anymore restless nights.
