Apple isn't the only one with a super glossy phone. Taking a page from the iPhone 7's Jet Black model, Samsung is releasing a Black Pearl version of the Galaxy S7 Edge, and it will be available in select markets starting Dec. 9.
But there's a catch to this sleekness that you probably won't like.
In a press release, Samsung says that this hue will be exclusive to the 128GB version of the S7 Edge, which means you will probably have to pay a pretty penny if you happen to be in one of the select market where this device will be released. (Samsung isn't saying which locations yet.)
The current 32GB version of the S7 Edge is already pretty pricey at $792 (or about $33 per month), so it wouldn't be a surprise if the 128GB Black Pearl version cost $100 more.
The Jet Black iPhone 7 commands a similar premium. The regular 32GB iPhone 7 starts at $649 but jumps to $749 if you want the glossy goodness. However, as we found during our testing, this version of the shows smaller scratches much more easily than other colors in the lineup.
Samsung didn't say anything about durability, but boasts that the "sleek black finish blankets the entire device – edges and all – and adds depth to its glass design."
We will keep you posted on a possible U.S. release date and hope to bring you our hands on impressions soon.
