I spent a lot of time running in the New Balance SC Trainer v3 last year during my training for the Valencia Marathon — which I didn’t end up running because of a twisted ankle, but that’s another story.
It impressed me as an all-rounder running shoe that could handle a wide variety of my training runs, from easy jogs through to long workouts.
The high price did not impress me, but that’s no longer a problem thanks to this huge discount on the shoe — you can get the New Balance SC Trainer v3 for $129 at Amazon right now, which is the cheapest it’s ever been.
The SC Trainer v3 is a plated training shoe that’s comfortable for easy runs but has enough punch for faster efforts as well. It’s a bit overpriced at MSRP, in my opinion, but the $50 saving you get with this deal makes it well worth considering. The women’s SC Trainer v3 is also reduced, with the biggest discounts being on the black colorway.
The New Balance SC Trainer v3 has a big stack of foam underfoot, which delivers both comfort and enough bounce to keep you ticking along through long runs, partially thanks to the forked carbon plate that runs through the midsole.
It’s stable for a high stack shoe, and would work well as a more supportive and comfortable alternative to the best carbon plate running shoes for racing if you’ve found those super-shoes too wobbly and aggressive.
I took the shoe away on a trip using it for all my runs and walking around, and it was great for that — especially as I love the look of the white and green model I tested for casual use.
While there are plated trainers I rate more highly than the SC Trainer v3 for speed, most notably the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 and Hoka Mach X2, it’s a more comfortable shoe than those, making it great for runners racking up big miles in particular.
