7. Functions in Excel
The Excel ribbon doesn’t look very promising. At first glance, for example, Excel Web only offers formatting, tables, and searching, while the Insert tab offers another way to create a table and the option to add a hyperlink (to a Web page and not a reference inside the worksheet). The Formulas tab of the desktop versions of Excel is missing too, which is a shame because it organizes the many formulas available and gives you a helping hand to find what you need. But if you know the name of the function you want to use in a formula, you can just start typing it in Excel Web and you’ll get an Autocomplete function list that looks like the one in Excel proper. It doesn’t work quite the same way, though—while we could select functions from the list, that didn’t put them into the cell, so at this point it’s really more of a reminder of how to spell the function.

What if you don't have a New menu in your skydrive?
James, if you don't see the new New menu, you don't have access to the Office Web apps technical preview - it is a very limited, invitation only preview, but you might find it appears if you upload files to the Documents folder.
Bah, I have not used Office products for several years now and have not missed them one bit. This is not going to get me to try anytime soon.
