6. Word Search Navigation

You can search in the Excel and Word Web apps, but not in PowerPoint, and the interface is very different. In Excel, the Find dialog gives you the options to search up or down (handy for a long document). In the Word Web apps you get a navigation pane like the one in the Word 2010 desktop application, but the experience isn’t quite the same. When you search in Word Web you have to hit Enter to start the search, while desktop Word searches as you type. You still get the snippets of text to put each result in context and the search term is highlighted in the navigation pane and in the document. With the desktop version of Word, you can change the options to only search for whole words or to match cases, but that is not possible with Word Web, which highlights both "sea" and "seat" when searching for only "sea."

What if you don't have a New menu in your skydrive?

James, if you don't see the new New menu, you don't have access to the Office Web apps technical preview - it is a very limited, invitation only preview, but you might find it appears if you upload files to the Documents folder.

Bah, I have not used Office products for several years now and have not missed them one bit. This is not going to get me to try anytime soon.
