The best Steam games in 2024

I’m obsessed with the best Steam games. As the proud owner of one of the best gaming PCs and Steam Deck OLED, I’m constantly glued to Valve’s platform, regardless of whether I’m playing Elden Ring on an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 or reveling in Disco Elysium: The Final Cut’s sardonic whodunnit delights on the company’s sensational HDR handheld.

Narrowing down the best Steam games is a task akin to trying to scale the peak of Mount Everest with a couple of toothpicks in place of an ice axe, though. There are literally thousands of games to choose from.

And make no mistake, Steam is a hugely popular platform that regularly sees over 130 million users return to play their favorite PC games every month, meaning the options before you are virtually limitless. Whether you’re into traditional PC strategy games or want to experience the best PS5 games like Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart at far higher frame rates than Sony’s console is capable of (provided you have a powerful enough rig, that is), the best Steam games cover every genre imaginable.

With the growing popularity of Steam Deck, I’ve included some “Deck Verified” games in the following guide. That means if you own Valve’s breakout gaming device, you can rest easy knowing that several of these titles will run just fine on the portable console, provided you’re willing to drop the odd graphical setting. So get comfortable as I steer you through some of the best Steam games you can buy right now.
