McDonalds Fitness Bands Cause Grimace-Worthy Rashes

This is one promotion that rubbed some the wrong way. Citing a rash of rashes, McDonald's is removing the Step It! Activity Band from Happy Meals in the U.S. and Canada.

The toy, a basic wrist-worn step tracker—presumably to help counteract the effects of eating a Happy Meal—was reportedly causing possible skin irritations, and is being removed as a precaution, according to a statement given to the Associated Press

The step tracker was available in one of six colors (pink, yellow, blue, green, orange, and red), and was part of a four-week promotion timed to the Olympics, of which McDonald's is a corporate sponsor.

McDonald's says it would substitute the activity band with another toy while it investigates the source of the possible skin irritation.

Some saw this promotion as ironic given that McDonald's offerings aren't exactly known for being the breakfast, lunch or dinner of champions. But the company did recently switch to all-white meat chicken in its McNuggets, so there's that.
