Don't you think it's high time your car told you a little more than just to check your engine when something's wrong? CarMD agrees.
A longtime player in the auto-health market, CarMD's new $140 CarMD Mobile kit combines a Bluetooth module, which plugs into the on-board diagnostics port on your car, with a mobile app (iOS and Android) so you can get detailed information about your vehicle.
Not only does CarMD Mobile detect and detail new issues, it can also proactively determine if something is likely to fail. When it does find an issue, CarMD Mobile explains the situation in plain English, so you won't have to worry about technical jargon flying over your head. The app can also calculate estimated repair costs, so you can decide whether to budget or to trade in a junker.
CarMD claims its database of fixes for OBD-related problems is larger than any of its competitors, and can be applied to more than 240 million cars, trucks, vans and other vehicles. The kit also includes five free reports to view vehicle history, which could save you a lot of trouble down the road if you decide to buy a vehicle directly from the owner instead of a dealership.
CarMD will be available sometime in mid-November, hopefully in time to give your vehicle a once-over before your holiday road trip.
