Facebook to Build New $240 Million Data Center

Facebook announced earlier this year that it would be creating its first data center, located in Oregon

and starting up in early 2011. Continuing to show the world how much of an internet behemoth it is, the company announced yesterday that it will be building a second data center in North Carolina investing an impressive $450 million.

According to North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, the technology that is being used with the data center is designed to be as energy-efficient and green as possible, stating that the construction will be using "technologies developed by Facebook to rely on fewer than half the computing power (and energy related energy consumption) that a similar data center would have required a few years ago".

The data center is expected to be completed in about 18 months using over 35-45 full time workers and contractors.

For what is this new data-center? Possibly to help with the new Facebok Mail coming soon.
