Do you have high-quality, 5.1 or above PC speakers? Do you have a stand-alone DVD player and a good TV set? Then why spend a fortune on a home theater audio system when your high-quality computer speakers will be more than adequate? Where sound is concerned, convergence between the living-room and the computer room seems to be the obvious move. That's what the manufacturers think too and Logitech, Altec Lansing and Creative Labs all offered hybrid speakers equipped with decoders in the past.
A few years ago, Creative launched its 3500 kit, a great entry-level product in competition with the home theater systems that were two or three times as expensive. The problem is that integrating a decoder into a speaker kit for computer use represents an unnecessary expense and for home theater systems, there were few models around equipped with a decoder.
