Apple Pulls App Containing Child Porn

Apple has gotten a lot of attention over the last couple of weeks for allowing an application that included semi nude photos of women. So what happens when you add underage girls into the mix?

Apple has pulled an application called Beauty Meter from the App Store. The application is based around the same idea as hotornot.com. You rate pictures of girls based on their face, body and clothes. The pictures are user generated. In other words, anyone who has the app can snap a photo and upload it for other people to rate. Most of the images are women in their underwear or sexy clothes and, according to KRAPPS, every picture is approved by the developer. However, the developer also approves images of women not wearing clothes, despite Apple's stance on "inappropriate content."

Everything hit the fan when KRAPPS came across a bunch of pictures of under-aged girls. It seems most of them were sixteen and partially clothed with none of the uh, important parts, on show. Not good. However, those pictures are easily overlooked when you consider KRAPPS also found an image of a topless fifteen year old girl, posing for the camera and pulling off her knickers.

This is the part where everyone speculates as to how these girls (underage or not) were able to have their photos approved in the first place. Apple probably approved the app before it contained any nudity. Indeed a follow up article from KRAPPS shows that the application contained zero nudity for a time, which leads to speculation as to whether or not the developer pulled all the naked pictures because it was resubmitting a newer version for approval. That said, no matter what way you spin it in relation to women over eighteen submitting nude photos, it still doesn’t explain how young girls were able to have their images posted, along with a caption detailing their age and location if the developers were approving every single picture.

The application has been pulled but reports say that the images (including the ones of underage girls) are still available to those who already have the app. Apple has yet to release a comment.

Hm. Is it not a felony to view child pornography? I wonder how many people were checking out this application and accidentally committed a felony by viewing and "grading" a nude minor. I also have to wonder how underage girls managed to become naked, have their pictures taken, and have them posted to a site that "rates" them. I believe that itself would also constitute as a felony.

Lawsuit has probably already been filed.

"My Child was exposed to child porn and Apple is responsible for it because I can't monitor the fact that my child downloaded an app for hot women!"

maigo :
That's not child porn. Age of consent is like 15 in a lot of states

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

1. Age of consent means you are of capacity to consent to sexual activity, it has nothing to do with child pornography. You are still a child in the United States if you are under the age of 18. That is why you have to click "Yes, I am 18" before you enter adult sites.

2. There are exactly zero states in the United States where the age to consent to sexual intercourse is 15 years old. The lowest age in the US is 16.

Actually age of consent is 15 in several states but only if their partner is less than 4 years different in age. It's MUCH lower in other countries (12 in Spain for instance).

More importantly it's not child porn just because they are nude. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_pornography
Child pornography refers to images or films depicting sexually explicit activities involving a child.

What about your 6 month old baby pictures taking a bath? that's pretty hardcore stuff.

15,16,18 yrs old? do you know what kids are already doing by those ages? a nude picture is the least concern of them all.

Its not quite the site's fault... those girls CHOOSE to upload nude pictures of themselves. And when parents or someone who KNOWS them found out - they called somebody and said "underage".

So its MOSTLY the kids fault for doing stupid stuff like that. And then other people get in trouble for it.

Actually the last time i checked pornography does not need to depict sexually explicit activities.. a pic of a naked woman is considered pornography. Once it is created to incite sexual arousal, it's considered porn.

"A good definition using this approach is from The Encyclopedia of Ethics, and defines pornography as "the sexually explicit depiction of persons, in words or images, created with the primary, proximate aim, and reasonable hope, of eliciting significant sexual arousal on the part of the consumer of such materials."

A next definition: "creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire" Princeton word net definition

I doubt those underage girls whose pics were put up are part of the art modeling class!

1. No. There is not a single state in the United States where the age of consent is 15. Not one.

2. That is very dumb. If you go by your definition or pornography then the Playboy magazine does not contain any pornographic material. Just women naked. 15 year olds naked = child pornography.

The above ^ line was created by me. I created it with the intent to incite sexual arousal. Therefore it is pornography. You do not have to agree. Apparently, since I created it, and I can confirm that I created it with the intent to incite sexual arousal, it is pornography.

To take it further, the line above is of a 12 year old subject. Therefore it is child pornography, since the subject is under-age and depicting sexual arousal. Take another look at the first line - there you go, you are now participating in a felony. Enjoy.

I think you're wrong. Sure the girls chose to upload them but posting nude or semi-nude images of underage girls is against the law. Those girls submitted their photos, with their ages included and the developer approved them. That is wrong, in my opinion.

This is funny. Just because it's on the internet, then it must be true.

For all we know, the photo was of a 22 year old women, and someone slapped on "age 15" for shock value and to see what would happen.

Another possibility is this is just a publicity stunt.

Seriously, there's nothing to see here. Move along. :P

Sadly enough, with my understanding, by Canadian law that can legally be classified as child pronography (though no judge would take it, the legal system still says so).

Apple might as well pull the Facebook App, Twitter App, and the countless other apps for the iPhone that could possible be used by a minor to take and upload a picture of themselves naked. Damn it! Apple should just remove the Camera from the phone because someone could take a nude pictures of themselves and email it to another person.

This is asinine on Apple's part, Neither Apple nor the developer is responsible for users abusing the software.

I have this app... It still works today.

One day i was just rating some chicks (lotsa hotties on there) and voila... 12yr old nude. honestly i was kinda shocked, it cought me off guard. It also surprised me that this picture past the authors approval because my pic was rejected! (on beach in Mexico in shorts havin a beer)

The thing that is really strang is that thier age is clearly posted 12! and fuckin nude, WTF! seriously, someone dropped the ball here.
