Lovefilm, an Amazon company, announced today (11/22) that its video streaming app Lovefilm Instant has launched on the newly released Xbox One game console. The service offers both video streaming and disc rentals by mail, not unlike Netflix. Based in Europe, the service has over two million members.
The Lovefilm Instant app had already been available for the iPad and Kindle Fire, other video game consoles, certain smart TVs and Blu-ray players. The Xbox One beats out PlayStation 4 and Wii U to be the first next-gen console with Lovefilm.
With the Xbox One’s emphasis on entertainment applications, this will likely be the first of many post-launch app announcements for the new console. The console, just released today in the U.S., launched with support from video streaming apps Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Crackle, Redbox Instant, Target Ticket and Vudu.
