NASA Robonaut Gets Unboxed... in Space!

Ah, robots in space – something that man has always looked to as being the perfect marriage of exploration and technology.

The Robonaut 2, or R2, is now finally in space. This joint project by NASA and GM will be a part of the ISS robotic arm, when it goes into full testing mode this May.

Check out this "unboxing" video of the R2, which also shows a bit of NASA humor.

ripley had to take it offline as it tried to take over the crew with an unknown alien lifeform.

GM should have played a trick on them and given it the HAL voice when they started it up, just to scare the hell out of them have it start muttering stuff like the onstar guidance system.

That might need something like the Robonaut to handle the radiation at the damaged Japanese Nuclear Plants. It could perform some of the tasks that have been exposing technicians to large doses of radiation.
