Runtastic's Orbit Band is Hot Off the Blocks

By - Source: Tom's Guide US | B 0 comment

Originally a fitness and health app that debuted in 2009, Runtastic has finally come full circle and made a wearable to match its software. Available now for $120, the Runtastic Orbit will track your health from workout to workout and everything in between.

The Runtastic Orbit offers multiple ways to mount your device, from the traditional smartband to its included pocket clip, both of which are available in a variety of colors. The Orbit is also waterproof up to 300 feet, so it can track you on the watery leg of a triathlon with ease.

The Orbit will also remind you to start your daily run, or alert you when you've been inactive for too long. It can track calories burned, sleep patterns or simply vibrate in the morning so you're not late for work. And with a seven day battery life, it can track your fitness day and night without constant interruption.

For runners, the Orbit works best paired with the Runtastic Me mobile app. This lets you set a goal, like a certain body fat percentage, while Runtastic scours user data to create and plan an effective workout regimen to help you reach it. It can also pull GPS data from your phone to track distance, current pace and route mapping during your run.

Future innovations will come in the form of reminders to put on sunscreen via the Orbit's ambient light sensor, and updates to track cycling data and even the number of pushups and sit ups you can muster.

The Runtastic Orbit is available for order now, with shipping beginning on August 11. Runtastic's app is available on both iOS and Android, requiring iPhone 4s or newer, or any Android Bluetooth Smart Ready handset running Android 4.3 or higher.
