There's enough drama going on in the news surrounding the NSA, secret backdoors and whatnot to keep anyone up at night. Having creepers peeping into your daughter's window at night, or seeing white unmarked vans patrolling your neighborhood after publishing a conspiracy-laden article just layers on the paranoia. Good thing there are tools like Vodka and TRENDnet's new PoE Internet Camera.
TRENDnet's new camera, the TV-IP302PI, is an outdoor-ready solution with an IP66 weather rated housing. It features a compact aluminum bullet enclosure that's a mere 4 inches long, and comes with an adjustable sun visor. It's powered by Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, meaning users will need to string Ethernet cable from the network to wherever the camera will be positioned outside – no outside power connection needed.
"Bottom and back mounting points and an adjustable mounting bracket provide installation flexibility. Other hardware features include: an optional power port (for non-PoE installations); I/O ports to network to an alarm system; audio in / out ports for a third party microphone and speakers; and an analog video out port to connect directly to a television," the company said.
The camera records 1280 x 720 video at 30 frames per second in H.264 format. It also has night vision up to 50 feet, making it a great tool for monitoring doors and windows from outside, even in the dark. The camera also supports IPv6, has a digital zoom factor of four, and provides Digital Wide Dynamic Range controls for improved white balance.
On the hardware front, the lens has a focal length of 4.2 mm (F 1.6) and a 1/4 inch CMOS sensor. The viewing angles are 62.9 degrees diagonal, 53.1 degrees horizontal and 33.7 degrees vertical. Additional camera features include a multi-language interface, motion detection windows, privacy masks, camera usage logs, date-and-time overlays, email alerts, scheduled recording sessions, and Samba client support.
TRENDnet's new camera comes bundled with management software that allows users to manage up to 32 TRENDnet cameras. There's also a free mobile app for managing the camera on iOS and Android mobile devices. The TV-IP302PI is available now from online and retail partners for $329.99 USD.
