Apple this week suffered a blow when a U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton sided with Amazon, denying Apple's efforts to secure an injunction to prevent Amazon from using the 'App Store' name Apple is currently trying to trademark. However, it seems Cupertino's own app store is doing just fine as the company today revealed that the 200 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users around the world have downloaded a grand total of 15 billion apps.
"In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Thank you to all of our amazing developers who have filled it with over 425,000 of the coolest apps and to our over 200 million iOS users for surpassing 15 billion downloads."
Apple also announced that the developers responsible for producing those apps and making them available for download on the App Store have been paid over $2.5 billion to date.
