If you saw Mission Impossible 4 last year, you may have seen Tom Cruise driving around in the arguably the sexiest spy car to date, BMW's i8 concept car. Now, BMW has decided to tease us all again with a glimpse of the convertible version of the car, the BMW i8 Spyder. This plug-in hybrid combines a high-performance electric motor and internal combustion engine to churn out an impressive 354 horsepower.
As with its hooded counterpart, the i8 Spyder is powered by the BMW LifeDrive architecture system, combining a 3 cylinder 1.5 liter 164 kw petrol engine and a 9kw electric motor. Despite its cutting-edge sporty looks, the i8 Spyder nets itself a very nice 94 miles per gallon. Sexy and efficient, we like!
Set to be shown off at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, the i8 Spyder may enter production sometime in 2015. No word on costs just yet, but we're guessing the price tag is going to be a heart breaker. For more photos and information on the concept, head on over to Designboom's article here.
