15 Vacation Gear Ideas: Don't Leave These Behind

Patriot Memory Flex USB Drive (16 GB)

It's always a good idea to keep a USB thumb drive handy while traveling; it's a great way to store important documents like hotel and airline reservations, as well as vacation photos and videos. At the same time, you'll want one that doesn't require an easily-misplaced cap, while maintaining a compact and rugged design.

The Flex line of USB drives from Patriot Memory meets all of the above requirements, while weighing less than two grams and coming in sizes from 4 GB to 32 GB (we chose 16 GB for this article). While the Flex does ship with a rubber sleeve, it's designed to be water resistant without any sort of cover. It has a sizable loop on the end, making it a perfect keychain companion, too. As for speed, the Flex read speeds top out at around 20 MB/sec., which is fast enough for quickly transferring photos, documents and smaller video files.

  • That Kensington travel charge adapter with USB is a first-generation one; purchased one like that four years ago. The USB-piece is prone to get lost. Current ones have integrated USB ports (not a separate piece) which allow for simultaneous charging of two USB devices and powering an item at the same time. However they only tend to be available from the on-board duty-free of international airlines (seen them available onboard Emirates and LAN)
