Quadrocopter Navigates with Kinect Eye

The Kinect is such a powerful piece of technology, it's a shame that its ridiculous price (compared to Nintendo and Sony's versions, at least) and Wii-aping precede its reputation. Thankfully, researchers and DIY nerds the world over have recognized the potential in the expensive Xbox 360 add-on, and have used it in various projects designed to exploit the Kinect's strengths.

The latest attempt at putting the Kinect to some harcore research is this quadrocopter. Developed through Berkley's STARMAC project, this little robotic UAV can move through any environment by using the Kinect's object recognition programming to define the lowest and highest obstacles within view.
