Ebay is a great place to get rid of your old junk – it's the garage sale of the internet. After all, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
That holds no more true than it does for Bob, who listed an old Rolex watch on eBay that he hadn't worn in the last decade. It was a Rolex Submariner Ref 5510, which apparently was the same watch worn by Sean Connery as 007 in Dr. No, Goldfinger, and Thunderball.
Bob originally bought the watch for $70 from a Navy Exchange 52 years ago and wore it nearly every day for the 40 years after. He listed it for $9.95 in hopes to get some of his money back. Imagine his surprise when he noticed that his listing shot up past the $30,000 mark.
With the help of his son, Bob learned the significance of the watch. Eventually the auction finally closed at $66,100, which undoubtedly makes Bob quite happy. The buyer is likely happy with the deal too, as similar watches have sold for $100,000.
Hodinkee has more details, along with more photos of Bob and his life with such a rare watch. Below are a couple pictures of Bob, the now-famous watch, and Christopher Reeve (AKA Superman).
