New Teddy Ruxpin Dials Up the Creepy with LCD Eyes

Teddy Ruxpin was one of the world's first animatronic toys way back in 1985, complete with a motorized mouth and eyes. These peepers are big, expressive and constantly shifting. The eyes also offer 40 animated expressions, including emoji-like hearts, stars and snowflakes. Teddy Ruxpin looks alive, and I'm not sure I'm okay with that.

This soft, fluffy bear comes with a 4GB hard drive inside that stores up to 40 stories that are 15 to 20 minutes long. Teddy comes with three stories that are unlocked, but if you want to get more, you'll have to use the companion app on your phone or tablet.

As your child reads along with Teddy Ruxpin, the app will display the words on screen and highlight the right words at the right time so Junior can learn how to read. You can see Teddy in action, thanks to a fawning sneak peek from The Mommie and Gracie Show.

To skip stories, all your child needs to do is press Teddy's hand. Pressing his foot will tell him to do a singalong with your kid.

The bad news is that the new Teddy Ruxpin won't go on sale until August 2017. The good news is that you'll have that much more time to sleep nightmare-free.
