A: Be an Expert; Use Hashtags

Hi, Inferior Influencer.

Not to make you feel worse about your dwindling social media skills, but Lady Gaga has a Klout score of 92. Anyway, there are a few things we can learn from Mother Monster that will make your score soar.

Klout focuses on Network Influence, Amplification Probability, and True Reach. So put on your poker face a la Gaga and start playing the game. First, get more followers by becoming an expert in your industry or by using popular hashtags to get noticed. Every time you tweet, share relevant and interesting information so your followers will retweet your content. Finally, make sure you’re interacting with your followers by engaging them in conversations and responding to their tweets.

While Klout is mostly based off your Twitter account, you can connect other social networking sites including Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare, Flickr, and Tumblr. Connect all the sites that you frequently use to really showcase your social media prowess. Klout itself has said this is the easiest way to increase your score.

If you follow all these steps, you can restore your score. But even Lady Gaga sometimes goes days without tweeting and weeks without starting a conversation with another user. So, in general, Klout is a mystery – or a bunch of BS? – and maybe your poor score should be ignored.
