The "eye of the storm" is that center of sunlit calm within a raging hurricane. Designer Qian Yiran used this natural phenomenon as inspiration for his concept wristwatch. Just like its namesake, Qian's Eye of the Storm timepiece features a central void where you'd usually expect the ticking watch face.
Since Qian is Chinese and not Japanese, doing time checks with this faceless watch is relatively easy: Just press a button, and tiny LEDs along the rim mark off the hours and minutes just like a regular analog watch. The Eye of the Storm netted Qian a win at the latest Red Dot Awards. Not bad for a watch that's literally got a gaping hole in its design.
