Spoiled Milk? There's an App-Jugg for That

There's nothing more depressing than pouring a bowl full of cereal only to learn that your milk has expired. Not only do you end up with a wasted, spoiled carton of milk, but you're hit with an unfortunately sour start to your day. Luckily for those of us who can't seem to shake the habit of letting milk go to waste, a few geniuses over at Quirky came up with an awesome idea: The Milkmaid.

You already have a wide variety of "smart" vacuum cleaners, laundry machines and refrigerators out there, so it's only fair that your milk gets its own smart appliance as well. In a competition sponsored by General Electric and the crowdfunding website Quirky, Milkmaid promised to ensure we get the most of our milk thanks to an integrated pH sensor.

All you have to do is insert a SIM card into the SmartBase of the Milkmaid, pour your milk in and the base automatically keeps track of your milk's freshness. Once the milk is spoiled, or is nearing its expiration date, the SmartBase will automatically send a message to your phone letting you know it's time to drink up or get another carton.

In addition to the message alerts, there is also an LED indicator light on the outside of the jug letting you know immediately the condition of the milk inside: green meaning still fresh and orange meaning its time for some new milk.
