Microsoft to Unveil Windows Phone 8 'Apollo' on June 20

We know Samsung's Galaxy SIII is launching the week of June 20, but that's not all that's not all that's going on in the world of smartphones around that time. Microsoft this week revealed that Samsung's North American Galaxy SIII launch will have to compete with a Windows Phone for headlines, because Redmond is planning an event for late June.

Though Monday saw the company host its own pre-E3 event in Los Angeles, Microsoft still had time to send out the following press invites for the Windows Phone summit, which is scheduled to take place June 20. The tagline for the event teases us with the promise of a sneak peek at the future of Windows Phone.

The next version of Windows Phone will be Windows Phone Apollo, otherwise known as Windows Phone 8. The mobile operating system will bring Microsoft's mobile and desktop OSes even closer together and is rumored to support dual-cores, as well as NFC. Microsoft's mention of a 'sneak peek' suggests we're still quite a ways away from Windows Phone 8 devices hitting the market, but it's a start, right?
