In an interview with Bloomberg, Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, said that based on pre-sales, retail orders and consumer interest, Microsoft expects to exceed its previous prediction of 3 million sales before the year is up. Mattrick said a big part of the success of Kinect would be thanks to the 25,000 retailers supporting the product by stocking it in their stores.
"They are really defining Kinect as the must-have holiday item," Mattrick said of retailers. "It means it’s going to be our biggest holiday ever."
Mattrick predicts Microsoft will sell 5 million units this quarter, making it the most successful Xbox product launch by sales.
