Google Runs Out of Disk Space; Spams G+ Users

Could the monolith known as Google possibly run out of disk space? Impossible! But it happened.

Over the weekend, Google's social network platform, Google+ ran out of disk space for about 80 minutes on the system that's used to keep track of notifications. This meant that the system kept spamming users with the same notifications over and over again.

Google's Vic Gundotra revealed the problem on his own G+ stream:

Please accept our apologies for the spam we caused this afternoon. For about 80 minutes we ran out of disk space on the service that keeps track of notifications. Hence our system continued to try sending notifications. Over, and over again. Yikes. We didn't expect to hit these high thresholds so quickly, but we should have. Thank you for helping us during this field trial, and once again, we are very sorry for the spam.
