If the Android Market is something you love to hate then we've got good news for you: The Android Developers Blog has revealed details of what's going to be a massive update for the Android Market and it's aimed at making the store a much more pleasant experience for everybody.
Android users will notice that the update brings an overall look and feel that is a lot cleaner than what we've been using over the last couple of years. Promoted applications will be featured more prominently but in a way that is more aesthetically pleasing than the old, constantly changing tiles.
"With a focus on improving discoverability and merchandising, we’ve introduced a new carousel on the home and category screens," writes Android developer Eric Chu. "Users can quickly flip through the carousel to view promoted applications and immediately go to the download page for the application they want."
Additionally, the app details page is losing all those tabs and will now show all pertinent application information on a single page. There'll also be a 'Related' section that will show you similar applications to the one you're currently viewing. Google is adding two new categories, Widgets and Live Wallpapers, but has decided to axe the 24-hour return policy. Now, users will have just 15 minutes to get a refund for apps they decide they don't like. Gamers will be pleased to learn that the maximum for .apk files on Market has been upped to 50MB to better support richer games.
Now, far be it from us to get you all excited about the new and improved Market Place without telling you when it'll hit your phone. The Android Developers Blog says the update is due to hit everyone running Android 1.6 or higher in the next couple of weeks. So whatever else the update brings, you're not going to have to wait long to reap the benefits.
