Paramount+ just added 70 new movies and shows to start July 2026. The first of the month is typically when the streaming service adds the majority of its new movies and shows, and the dozens that were just added should be more than enough for you to try and watch in a single month.

In fact, there might be so many choices that it overwhelms you. Don't worry, though, I've already looked through everything coming to Paramount+ in July, and I know exactly which of these movies and shows are a must-watch.

Top of the list is "City of God," an Oscar-worthy Brazilian film that's now over 20 years old but no less incredible. Then, you'll want to check out Richard Linklater's "Everybody Wants Some!!" Finally, I'm rounding out the list with a trio of war films: "Glory," "Good Morning, Vietnam" and "Hacksaw Ridge."

So, without further delay, let's dive into the five newly added to Paramount+ movies and shows that I think you need to be streaming right now.

5 Paramount+ movies and shows to stream right now

'City of God' (2002)

Genre: Brazilian epic crime movie

What's it about: Set in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, "City of God" is narrated by Rocket (Alexandre Rodrigues), a resident of Rio's Cidade de Deus (City of God) favela who dreams of being a photographer. So when a gang war between drug dealers Li'l Zé (Leandro Firmino) and Carrot (Matheus Nachtergaele) breaks out in the favela, Rocket seizes the opportunity to find a life outside the Brazilian slum.

Why you should watch it: It's insane that, despite earning nominations for Best Director, Best Cinematography and more, "City of God" somehow didn't make the shortlist for Best Foreign Language Film. Don't let that dissuade you from watching it; this is an excellent movie.

'Everybody Wants Some!!' (2016)

Genre: Comedy movie

What's it about? Starring an incredible ensemble cast that includes Blake Jenner, Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Ryan Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Will Brittain, and Wyatt Russell, this spiritual successor to "Dazed and Confused" follows the lives of several college baseball players in Texas in 1980.

Why you should watch it: If "Dazed and Confused" is too dated for you, "Everybody Wants Some!!" is a (slightly) more modern take on the coming-of-age tale, as well as an excellent period piece, something that Linklater has nailed more than once in his career.

'Glory' (1989)

Genre: Epic war movie

What's it about? "Glory" tells the story of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, the first all-Black regiment in the U.S. military. It's an ensemble performance that features Matthew Broderick and Cary Elwes as officers, as well as Morgan Freeman, Andre Braugher, and Denzel Washington as some of the former slaves and freedmen fighting in the infantry ranks.

Why you should watch it: "Glory" is nearly four decades old, but still holds up visually against its modern counterparts. Denzel also wins an Oscar for his performance as Trip, who often serves as a devil's advocate-like figure throughout the movie. It's a performance that leads to some emotionally powerful moments, and a movie that's a must-watch.

'Good Morning, Vietnam' (1987)

Genre: War comedy-drama movie

What's it about? This is not your typical Vietnam War movie. Set in Saigon in 1965, it stars Robin Williams as a military radio DJ named Adrian Cronauer (loosely based on real-life events) whose irreverent broadcasts are popular with the troops. He's aided by PFC Edward Garlick (Forest Whitaker) in his endeavours, which don't always jive with what his superiors would like.

Why you should watch it: "Good Morning, Vietnam" may be funny, but it's still a war movie with plenty of drama. As a decent person, Cronauer tries to connect with the local Vietnamese, but doesn't always take into account that they might not want to connect with him.

'Hacksaw Ridge' (2016)

Genre: Biographical epic war movie

What's it about? Based on the 2004 documentary The Conscientious Objector," this movie stars Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss. As a Seventh-day Adventist, Doss refused to wield a weapon during World War II, opting instead to serve as a combat medic.

Why you should watch it: Say what you will about Mel Gibson as a person, but he can certainly direct a movie. So I have to recommend still checking this movie out for artistic reasons. It's also worth seeing the portrayal of Doss's incredible story, which sees him become the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

In the back half of 2025, Amazon introduced its new proprietary, Linux-based operating system, Vega OS which replaces the Fire OS. The old platform was an Android fork based on the Android Open Source Project.

Controversially, the new OS is more locked down lacking sideloading support. In a sprawling interview with the UK-based Cord Busters, Amazon's vice president of Fire TV, Aidan Marcuss, finally explains why the switch was made.

An opportunity to 'innovate'

Marcuss told Cord Busters that Vega OS is an opportunity for Amazon to "innovate and deliver more capabilities, even on the least expensive devices.” He also said that it would make things more secure and private for users, which was "sort of utmost in my mind."

That's a somewhat ironic statement since Vega OS blocks the ability to sideload third-party adblockers, in addition to launchers.

“Apps that facilitate piracy, and other apps, can carry malware,” Marcuss said when asked if sideloading actually causes harm. Marcuss also said that there is “a good amount of evidence that apps can carry unwanted code and behavior on them when they’re sideloaded.”

Piracy and malware are legit

For the unfamiliar, sideloading is the ability for Fire Sticks owners to add modified Android apps to the streaming device. When Vega OS was introduced in October 2025, we noted that it would be the illegal streamer's nightmare.

Notably, soccer streamers like DAZN and Sky Sports, which stream top-league soccer matches, have accused Fire Sticks of enabling piracy. In May 2025, Enders Analysis, a media research firm, released a report that specifically blamed the Fire Stick for easily enabling streaming piracy.

Additionally, malware and fraud have been a problem. In November, Malwarebytes reported that 1 in 3 people who illegally stream in the UK have been victims of fraud or scams. The Fire TV focused AFTVNews found a number of blacklisted apps that could "put your personal data risk." The Amazon support forums are littered with posts about strange cryptocurrency malware or other strange malware.

That said, the blacklist also features apps that let users get around the Fire homescreen, which is increasingly an ad fest.

Vega OS isn't quite ready

Vega OS isn't as robust as Fire OS lacking support for things like Dolby Vision or USB storage. As we found in our review of the Fire TV 4K Streaming Stick Select it isn't quite ready for primetime.

"it feels more like a proof-of-concept at this point rather than a full release when it comes to app integration and other assorted features," we said at the time.

Cord Busters asked Marcuss about the difference between the 3,000 supported apps on Vega OS Fire sticks versus 40,000 on Fire OS ones.

“No customer is actually downloading 50,000 apps. The question is whether the apps they want to watch, the content that they’re looking for are there,” Marcuss said. He added that customers can stream “the vast, vast, vast majority of content” on Vega-OS Fire Sticks.

For most people, the difference between Vega and Fire OS won't matter, but as with many decisions to close down platforms recently, it's more about taking away the choice, not whether or not people are using it.

We’re already over halfway through 2026, with July marking the peak of summer, and for many that means less time spent indoors binge-watching shows and more time out making the most of the lighter evenings. Still, when the day winds down and you’re in the mood to switch off with something good, Prime Video’s top 10 list is a handy place to start. It gives a quick snapshot of what’s currently trending on the platform.

Prime Video’s trending chart is in a particularly strong place right now, with “Off Campus” and Nicolas Cage’s “Spider-Noir” both firmly holding onto top positions over the past few weeks. While those two are definitely worth a watch if you (somehow) haven’t caught up yet, it’s the newer entries on the list that are especially interesting this time around. So, here are three standout picks from this week’s Prime Video top 10 that deserve a watch.

‘Every Year After’

I think most romance fans can agree that watching a yearning-filled movie or show during summertime just hits differently, especially when it's set in the season itself, with characters longing for each other or caught in a complicated love triangle. “Every Year After” leans into the classic childhood-friends-to-lovers trope, with two people too afraid to cross that line. Based on Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel, this Prime Video series is packed with slow-burn romance, plenty of yearning, and enough juicy drama to keep you hooked.

Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall) returns to the lakeside town of Barry’s Bay after a decade away, with the death of Sam Florek’s (Matt Cornett) mother brings her back. The story unfolds across dual timelines, alternating between six formative summers in their teenage years and the present day. As childhood friends become inseparable and eventually fall in love, a devastating mistake tears them apart. Back in Barry’s Bay, Percy must confront painful memories and the unresolved relationship with Sam that has shaped both of their lives.

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’

Moving onto the topic of love triangles, I had to include “The Summer I Turned Pretty” now that it’s reappeared in the top 10. This coming-of-age romantic drama makes for the perfect summer rewatch, thanks to its seasonal setting and famously messy love triangle. Based on a young adult book trilogy by Jenny Han, the series is also set to get a movie (currently in development), which will serve as a feature-length continuation and finale following the events of season 3. I don’t think this was a surprise to anyone given how huge the show became on Prime Video.

Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) has spent every summer of her life vacationing at Cousins Beach with her mother, brother Steven (Sean Kaufman), and the Fisher family. As she turns 16, Belly discovers everything has changed. Conrad (Christopher Briney), the older Fisher brother she's admired for years, has become distant, while the outgoing Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) begins seeing her in a new light. Soon, Belly finds herself caught between the two brothers, as unexpected revelations reshape their futures both at the beach and back home.

‘See You at Work Tomorrow’

It seems subscribers are loving romance shows right now, considering we’re ending this list with another one. “See You at Work Tomorrow” is a Korean workplace romantic comedy adapted from the Kakao webtoon Back to Work, which racked up over 200 million views by capturing the unglamorous, highly relatable grind of corporate life. The series follows two colleagues who start off as enemies before, of course, developing feelings, complete with all the charm and slow-burning tension that comes with it.

Cha Ji-yoon (Park Ji-hyun) is a seven-year office employee at Saeum Electronics who has settled into a monotonous career rut after years in the same department. When an internal reshuffle places her under Kang Si-woo (Seo In-guk), a newly assigned department manager known for his strict discipline, her predictable routine is immediately disrupted. Despite his cold and intimidating presence, Si-woo becomes increasingly attentive to Ji-yoon, and their professional relationship slowly shifts.

‘Bones and All’ (2022)

Starting in the deep end, we have the psychological thriller “Bones and All,” which also functions as a romantic horror flick. Adapted from the young adult novel, the movie introduces a reality where certain people are born with an insatiable, uncontrollable urge to consume human flesh. Yes, that is a wild premise, but this film uses it as a dark metaphor for trauma and the desperate human need to find someone who accepts your deepest flaws.

Maren Yearly (Taylor Russell) is a teenage girl in 1980s America who has a compulsive urge to consume human flesh, a condition she has lived with since childhood. After her father abandons her with a recording explaining her past and urging her to survive alone, Maren sets out across the country to find her estranged mother and understand where she came from. Along the way, she meets Lee (Timothée Chalamet), a drifting young man with the same condition, and the two form a bond.

‘Gilmore Girls’ (2000)

I think almost everyone has probably heard of “Gilmore Girls.” This comedy-drama, which originally ran for seven seasons from 2000 to 2007, quickly became a comforting, endlessly rewatchable show. Its biggest trademark is the hyper-fast, witty banter. While a standard TV script page equals about one minute of screen time, “Gilmore Girls” scripts were nearly double the length because the characters talk at a million miles an hour. There’s a fun fact for you.

Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) is a sharp-witted single mother who left home as a teenager and now runs an inn in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. She raises her academically gifted daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel), and the two share an unusually close bond, often behaving more like best friends than parent and child. When Rory is accepted into an elite private school, Lorelai is forced to reconnect with her wealthy, controlling parents to help pay tuition. Both women have to juggle studies, careers, friendships, and complicated romantic relationships.

‘The Martian’ (2015)

For sci-fi fans, “The Martian” should be at the top of your watchlist. Based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, it grossed over $630 million worldwide and earned seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, largely because it made space survival look remarkably realistic, with a strong performance from Matt Damon. The film rests almost entirely on Damon’s shoulders, as he spends a large portion of it alone on screen, talking directly into video logs.

During a manned mission on Mars, astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is struck by debris during a sudden storm and left behind when his crew evacuates, believing he has died. Regaining consciousness alone on the planet, he returns to the damaged habitat and assesses his limited supplies. With no communication to Earth, he records logs while engineering ways to grow food, generate water, and repair equipment. NASA later discovers he is alive through satellite imagery and works to re-establish contact.

‘Saving Private Ryan’ (1998)

If you’ve seen “Disclosure Day” and need to watch more movies from filmmaking icon Steven Spielberg, you need to stream “Saving Private Ryan.” Upon its release, the film completely revolutionized the war genre by introducing an unprecedented level of raw, immersive, and uncompromisingly violent realism. The film's first 23 minutes (chronicling the Omaha Beach landing) is widely considered one of the most legendary technical achievements in cinema history.

Set during World War II, the story begins with the Allied landing at Omaha Beach in Normandy in 1944, where Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) survives intense combat while leading a unit of U.S. Rangers. Shortly after, military command assigns him a mission: Locate Private James Ryan (Matt Damon), whose three brothers have all been killed in action. Miller and his squad travel deep into German-occupied France, moving through destroyed villages and frontline battles while gathering information about Ryan’s whereabouts.

‘World War Z’ (2013)

I love a good zombie movie, and “World War Z” has to be one of the genre’s more overlooked entries in recent years. Directed by Marc Forster, this action-thriller features zombies that can actually sprint, which is arguably more terrifying than the slow, stumbling kind. The visual effects showcase massive CGI swarms that pile on top of each other like ants, scaling giant walls and overwhelming vehicles. It feels like “Contagion” mixed with “28 Days Later” on an absolutely massive blockbuster scale.

Former United Nations investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) is caught in a sudden outbreak of a rapidly spreading infection that turns people into violent, fast-moving infected. When the crisis erupts during a traffic jam in Philadelphia, Gerry and his family barely escape the collapsing city and are evacuated by a UN contact to a military ship serving as a mobile research hub. In exchange for keeping his family safe, Gerry agrees to travel across multiple countries to trace the origin of the outbreak and identify possible patterns in how the infected behave.

Netflix just added 37 new movies and shows to kick off July 2026. The first day of the month is typically the biggest for the streaming service; it's when Netflix adds the majority of the classic library titles (aka not originals) to its catalogue. This month was no exception, but it also added some new original shows and movies today.

Regardless, 37 new movies and shows are a lot of new titles to sort through in a single day. So I wouldn't blame you if you didn't know where to start. Lucky for you, I've already looked through everything new on Netflix in July, and I have five movies worth adding to your watchlist today.

Since we're now fully into summer, it's officially baseball season. So I'm recommending you check out "A League of Their Own" and "Moneyball," two of the best sports movies made in my lifetime, but with very different vibes. If baseball isn't for you, then check out "Born on the Fourth of July." Or, if you're not looking to question what it means to be American, start streaming "Fargo" the second you're done reading this article. Finally, for those who can't wait for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," you should give yourself a refresher and stream "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which was just added to Netflix today.

So let's dive into the five newly added to Netflix movies and shows that I think you should be streaming right now.

5 Netflix shows and movies to stream right now

'A League of Their Own' (1992)

Genre: Sports comedy-drama movie

What it's about: "A League of Their Own" is the story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League— specifically, the Rockford Peaches. Set during World War II, these women keep the sport of baseball alive while the men have gone off to fight. The roster is loaded, too: Geena Davis stars as Dorothy "Dottie" Hinson, Madonna as "All the Way" Mae Mordabito, Lori Petty as Kit Keller and Rosie O’Donnell as Doris Murphy. Don't forget manager Jimmy Dugan, played by the incomparable Tom Hanks.

Why you should watch it: When you read the line "There's no crying in baseball," you know it's about "A League of Their Own." It's that iconic. So if you have never seen that line before, or heard someone say it but didn't know why, now's the time to watch this all-time classic sports movie.

'Born on the Fourth of July' (1989)

Genre: Biographical anti-war drama movie

What's it about? "Born on the Fourth of July" stars Tom Cruise as Ron Kovic, and it follows Ron's life from childhood through school and then joining the Marines to fight in a war like his World War II veteran father. But in Vietnam, he lives through traumatic horrors, and ultimately dedicates his life to being an anti-war activist.

Why you should watch it: This movie is based on the memoir of the real Rod Kovic, who co-wrote the movie's screenplay along with director Oliver Stone, so the experiences you'll see on screen are the real deal. Between Cruise's Oscar-nominated performance and Stone's Oscar-winning direction, there are worse ways to spend this July 4 than watching "Born on the Fourth of July."

'Fargo' (1996)

Genre: Black comedy crime movie

What's it about? "Fargo" stars Frances McDormand as Marge Gunderson, the police chief of Brainerd, Minnesota, and William H. Macy as Jerry Lundegaard, a car salesman in (relatively) nearby Minneapolis. It centers around these two as Marge begins to investigate a triple homicide perpetrated by a pair of hitmen (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare), who, it turns out, Jerry hired to kidnap his own wife, Jean (Kristin Rudrüd).

Why you should watch it: "Fargo" is a great place to start if you've never seen a Coen Brothers movie before. It gives you a sense of both the darkness and the humor that they bring to their films; if you've ever seen a clip of a man feeding body parts into a wood chipper, that's from this movie.

'Moneyball' (2011)

Genre: Biographical sports drama movie

What it's about: Based on Michael Lewis's book of the same name, "Moneyball" is the dramatic retelling of how the A’s general manager, Billy Beane (Brad Pitt), transformed how every Major League Baseball team evaluates talent. If you’re a former Oakland A’s fan, "Moneyball" is the story of how a team succeeded despite poor ownership, but for everyone else, it's the tale of how baseball changed forever.

Why you should watch it: This movie isn't flawless; it leaves out Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, Barry Zito, Eric Chavez and Miguel Tejada. But it's still one of my favorite movies ever made. Pitt and Hill's performances are incredible, and it's a supremely rewatchable film.

'Spider-Man: Homecoming' (2017)

Genre: Marvel superhero movie

What it's about: Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is just your average high school student with a complicated high school crush. Well, aside from the fact that he's secretly Spider-Man, a superhero who just helped save the world as part of the Avengers. That part isn't so typical, and it makes Peter's life almost impossible to balance.

Why you should watch it: This is probably my favorite "Spider-Man" movie. It nails its portrayal of Peter as a high school student, something previous versions of Spider-Man largely missed or avoided. Michael Keaton's Vulture is also an incredibly underrated villain.

Top movies to stream this July

'The Choral' (Netflix)

Genre: British historical drama movie

What's it about? In the (fictional) Yorkshire town of Ramsden, two things dominate the citizenry. First, there's the war (specifically World War I), but for those not yet shipped off to the front, there's the town's choral society. To run its latest performance, the society has hired Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes), a homosexual man and lover of all things (and seemingly one man) German, in a time when that's a dangerous combination.

Why you need to watch it: In my review of "The Choral," I declared Fiennes' portrayal of Guthrie to be almost routinely impressive. The British actor never misses, and this movie is no exception. Unfortunately, the movie surrounding that performance is merely a surface-level coming-of-age story that's almost equally unimpressive.

'Ready or Not 2' (Hulu)

Genre: Comedy horror movie

What's it about? In "Ready or Not 2," a cabal of Satan-worshipping families, with a high council led by the Danforth clan (Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shawn Hatosy), continues to hunt down a young woman named Grace (Samara Weaving). Her only crime was nearly marrying into one of the families, but now she's part of a game of ritual sacrifice, with intricate rules enforced by a lawyer (Elijah Wood). Unfortunately for Grace, her estranged sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton), is now also caught up in the whole sordid affair.

Why you need to watch it: In her review of "Ready or Not 2," Senior Streaming Writer Alix Blackburn declared it "a thrilling and entertaining sequel." I watched both "Ready or Not" movies in the same day and also found it a good time, even if Alix and I both agree the first of the two movies is better.

'Backrooms' (PVOD)

Genre: Sci-fi horror movie

What's it about? Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is a furniture store owner fallen on hard times. But his life changes forever when he discovers a portal to an endless liminal space hidden in the basement of his store. When he doesn't return, his therapist, Mary (Renate Reinsve), goes in after him to try to bring him back.

Why you need to watch it: In my "Backrooms" review, I dubbed it a combination of horror masterpieces "The Blair Witch Project and "The Cabin in the Woods." The performances are excellent, and some scenes leave you breathless. The ending falls flat, but the first two acts are enough to make it an incredible movie nonetheless.

'Cold Storage' (MGM+)

Genre: Sci-fi horror comedy movie

What's it about? "Cold Storage" features Georgina Campbell as Naomi Williams and Joe Keery as Travis "Teacake" Meacham, a pair of night guards at a storage facility in Kansas. Little do they know, the facility is built on an abandoned government facility hosting a deadly fungus, and the government sends in Robert Quinn (Liam Neeson) to investigate when there's a sudden breach.

Why you need to watch it: In her review of "Cold Storage," Senior Streaming Writer Alix Blackburn declared it "messy, outrageous and thrilling." It's not a flawless film, but it's an undeniably good time as Campbell, Keery and Neeson try to contain the deadly fungus latent in this abandoned cold storage facility.

'The Devil Wears Prada 2' (Hulu)

Genre: Comedy drama movie

What's it about? Set two decades after the events of "The Devil Wears Prada," this sequel returns our focus to Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who has just returned to Runway after being laid off from her old job. In her new position, she tries to help editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Streep) navigate a new media landscape, but Miranda is less than thrilled that Andy is back.

Why you need to watch it: In my review of "The Devil Wears Prada 2," I was effusive in my praise of the movie's writing and production values. Sure, it's essentially the same movie as the first one, but with Milan as our final destination rather than Paris. But when the original movie is a masterpiece, a reproduction is still going to look pretty good.

'A Private Life' (Netflix)

Genre: Black comedy mystery thriller

What's it about? "A Private Life" stars Jodie Foster as Dr. Lilian Steiner, an American psychiatrist living and working in Paris. She treats a wide range of patients, but becomes obsessed with the only one of them who isn't living, Paula (Virginie Efira), a striking blonde woman who has mysteriously died at the start of the film.

Why you should watch it: This movie is a "Black comedy mystery thriller." And while that seems totally made up, it's an apt description for this surprisingly trippy and funny investigation of a patient's death. The real reason to see the movie, though, is Foster's transformative performance, almost entirely in flawless French. It's so good even the French approved of it.

'Over Your Dead Body' (AMC+)

Genre: Action comedy thriller movie

What's it about? "Over Your Dead Body" isn't actually an original script. It's an adaptation of the Norwegian action horror comedy film, "The Trip" ("I onde dager") and it stars Jason Segel as Dan, a dissatisfied director married to Lisa (Samara Weaving), a struggling actress. They go on a weekend trip to a cabin out in the wilderness, where it turns out they've both planned to kill the other.

Why you need to watch it: The synopsis above is only part of the story. While trying to take each other out, Pete (Timothy Olyphant), Todd (Keith Jardine) and Allegra (Juliette Lewis) arrive freshly escaped from a nearby prison, and it turns the entire movie on its head. In my review of "Over My Dead Body," I declared it a "must-see" and "undeniably funny."

Netflix is kicking off the month with one of its biggest original releases of the year, “Enola Holmes 3.” This mystery franchise has been a major hit for the streamer, offering a clever, fast-paced spin on the “Sherlock Holmes” universe. Based on the YA book series by Nancy Springer, the first two films introduced Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes, a sharp and independent teenage detective and the younger sister of Sherlock, who sets out to solve mysteries on her own terms.

Streaming on Netflix in just a few hours, “Enola Holmes 3” significantly shifts gears by taking Enola out of London and across the sea. I can definitely say this sequel leans into a noticeably more mature, high-stakes and slightly darker tone than its predecessors. It opens by upending Enola’s personal life: After accepting a surprise marriage proposal from Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), her brief romantic happiness is cut short when she discovers that Sherlock (Henry Cavill) has been kidnapped.

I have no doubt “Enola Holmes 3” will dominate Netflix’s charts this week, especially since the first film was watched by around 76 million households in its first four weeks (a little fun fact). If you’re eager to delve into this new mystery, here are my honest thoughts on “Enola Holmes 3” and why it could be my favorite one yet.

‘Enola Holmes 3’ is a deadlier psychological game

Those who have seen the other “Enola Holmes” films will know that the franchise has always been charming and light-hearted. Even when there’s a murder to solve, Enola’s fourth-wall-breaking, comedic timing, and the vintage streets of London make for a delightful watch. “Enola Holmes 3,” however, opts for a slightly darker approach, despite shifting from the usually gloomy streets of London to the sunny Mediterranean island of Malta. That’s because Enola is dealing with a far more personal case when Sherlock suddenly goes missing.

The story opens on Enola and Lord Tewkesbury’s wedding day. While Tewkesbury waits nervously at the altar, Enola gets cold feet about adjusting to the traditional expectations of high-society marriage. Everything goes completely off the rails when Dr. Watson (Himesh Patel) tracks her down and reveals that Sherlock is nowhere to be found. The mystery surrounding his disappearance is handled brilliantly, revealing just enough to keep you guessing without giving too much away. It creates a real sense of suspense, forcing Enola to trust her own instincts. One particularly compelling addition sees her imagining Sherlock’s voice, giving their sibling bond even more emotional weight.

The franchise has always been visually impressive, but “Enola Holmes 3” finds fun new ways to bring its mysteries to life. Clever on-screen graphics help you follow Enola as she pieces together each clue, making the investigation feel even more immersive. At the same time, it never loses the charm that made the first two films so enjoyable. That includes some of the most impressive action scenes yet, most notably a standout rescue sequence from a burning building. The film fully embraces her physical strengths this time around, making her feel more capable than ever. But its biggest strength is how it reinforces that she doesn’t need to follow in Sherlock’s footsteps.

“Enola Holmes 3” leans into a more mature, modern definition of womanhood, showing that Enola’s real strength isn’t just her intellect, but her capacity to care. Of course, as a mystery at its core, it still delivers plenty of twists, with Enola learning just as much as the viewer as she meets new people drawn into the case. Romance fans will also be pleased to know that Enola and Tewkesbury share plenty of yearning-filled moments, including a simple scene of him plaiting her hair that had me in awe (I need more of them).

Verdict: ‘Enola Holmes 3’ is a fiercely brilliant chapter

“Enola Holmes 3” is easily my favorite film in the franchise so far. Moving the story to a sun-drenched, international setting is a great choice, and it really helps give the film a fresh visual energy. But what stands out most is the emotional side of things. It’s genuinely rewarding to spend more time inside Enola’s world and see her vulnerabilities more clearly. From her very relatable cold feet before the wedding to the fear that she might not be good enough to save her brother, it adds a lot more heart to the story.

While some of the supporting performances can feel a bit stiff or overly unserious at times (occasionally pulling you out of the more intense moments) it’s Millie Bobby Brown’s charming performance that pulls you right back in. She once again proves she’s the undeniable heart of the series.

As a die-hard super fan of Reese Witherspoon, it comes as no surprise that Legally Blonde is just as integral to my origin story as any other Y2K-loving millennial. If Elle Woods didn't stand up for herself as a fish-out-of-water fashion major amongst Harvard's snooty elite — and prove them damningly wrong — in the 2001 comedy, I fear my life's trajectory would be so vastly different.

From first watch to millionth viewing, I have continued to love the Legally Blonde Universe (referred to as the LBU from now on), so much so that I enjoyed the borderline-average sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, and fell head over heels for the musical adaptation. In a similar vein to the Mean Girls Universe (MGU) — which has followed a parallel path as a coming-of-age movie and is considered now as a 2000s period piece, there has been an ignored sequel, a treasured musical turned 2024 film remake and an obsession with pink, plaid and plastic surgery — the LBU was ready for a revamp.

So when the announcement came that Amazon MGM Studios was invested in telling Elle's prequel story, I was pretty much convinced that I was going to adore everything about the series. And IMO, the LBU prequel was set for success from the get-go, starting with the flawless casting of newcomer Lexi Minetree as the younger version of the beloved lead.

But after the release of the teaser trailer last month, my higher-than-most-hopes fell a bit flat, with the synopsis somewhat similar to the movie's narrative. Instead of Boston's dull legal atmosphere, we're taken back to 1995 and facing 16-year-old Elle's current dilemma — an untimely move from sunny LA, California, to rainy Seattle, Washington. This follows an unfortunate accident (read: botched nose job) which sees Elle's plastic surgeon dad, Wyatt Woods (Tom Everett Scott), needing to lay low for a while. Along for the ride comes Elle, her fascinating and equally bubbly mother, Eva (June Diane Raphael) and the most important Woods family member — a pint-sized, yet still tough-as-nails pup, Bruiser.

Warning: spoilers ahead

Now, post-watching the entire 8-episode season, I fear my expectations weren't met, in more ways than one. But before I go on, there are some really excellent things this prequel does well, which I know after reading many a review on the series, have been glossed over.

Successfully fuelling 'Legally Blonde' nostalgia

For starters, as noted, Lexi Minetree is the perfect teenage Elle Woods. From her spritely demeanour to her immaculate 90s costuming and delivery of lines that were definitely copy/pasted from the film's script, Minetree breathes a whole new life into the titular character and does it well. Even in times of despair (a.k.a. mean girl nastiness), you can't help but champion for Elle, evoking the same rooting-for-the-hero feelings and nostalgia of the original.

Even the ensemble cast is a force to be reckoned with, despite fitting into LBU character archetypes. My standout being Donna, the school's secretary, played by Amy Pietz, acting as Elle's refuge and recreating an indirect homage to Jennifer Coolidge's Paulette. Donna is quirky, loveable and all-around the best, supportive figure to the students, and it's unfortunate she falls under an injustice as the series treks on. Also, I'll firmly sit on team Madison-deserves-better (played by Jessica Belkin), Elle's LA bestie who offers her sage advice and pushes the story along in times of need, despite a yucky, less-than-an-episode-spanning fallout.

Further, I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed the dynamics and transformations of Elle's parents, who are largely absent in other forms of the LBU. I particularly enjoyed June Diane Raphael's Eva, who does a complete 180 throughout the show and owns up to her part in Elle's ongoing kerfuffle. I also liked the setting of 90s Seattle being flannel shirts, stripes and grunge music, and the period-accurate drabness of it all, unless you were looking at Elle's wardrobe of mostly hot pinks, flowers and sparkles.

But that's where I need to draw the line.

Shaping Elle as the sparkly-pink outsider

For all the positives, come a steady stack of negatives that need addressing, starting with the biggest elephant in the room — Elle being the outsider. As a tried and true fan of the movie, the prequel series contradicts a lot of the film's plot — and in some instances, entirely refilms established sequences in different settings. The only instance where this revisit (or nostalgic nod) truly works is in the first two minutes of the show, where we see a similar recreation of the film's title sequence play out, but instead of delivering the bedazzled pink card to her sorority dorm room, it's left on a table of gifts at Elle's Sweet 16th.

Within the first two episodes, we see a handful of similar scenes from the film. There’s Elle showing up to a 'pool party' in a bikini, a crying moment like the Warner-breakup scene when her parents tell her she's moving, and her telling Bruiser they were in this together. That last one felt fine at first before it clicked in my head that she told him the exact same line before they moved into the Harvard dorms. There's also a lot of talk about her being a Gemini in the series, much like in the film — and as a girl obsessed with her birth chart, I found some fun in it, until it became a weird plot point to make her bond with her mother over past mistakes. (Spoiler alert: she's not a Gemini!).

These are tiny gripes in the grand scheme of things, but it just felt like Elle Woods wasn't this outsider in pink heels who rises above it all, as she's depicted in the movie. Instead, we find ourselves at another instance in Elle's life where she is a fish-out-of-water, and therefore makes us (the audience) feel like the film doesn't hold as much weight as it used to. Elle is supposed to be the heroine that doesn't let the challenge overcome her — and she is — but, it's kinda odd to think that she's had multiple obstacles she's needed to overcome.

Sure, you could go back and quote her Harvard video essay, where she had to choose between 2ply and 3ply toilet paper for Delta Nu, but that was the whole point of the film — going to law school was (and is) supposed to be hard.

What was equally as frustrating was the subplot in the series where Elle and her friends uncover a money-theft scam within the school. The plot itself is addressed throughout the series before the big unveiling in the seventh episode, but it's not really the driver of the show.

Coupled with a not-so-needed line from Donna asking if Elle wants to become a lawyer at the end, it just felt forced to have this big Elle Woods-style deposition, especially since at this point in time, she doesn't want to be a lawyer — she wants to be a 'Cosmo Girl'. Cue another subplot where Elle's trying to win an internship for Cosmopolitan magazine and use it to go back to LA. There's a Breakfast Club-esque episode, too, which was kinda fun and a nice reprieve back into the investigation subplot.

But even then, both of those plot points collide and are ultimately a cause for chaos, as the Seattle friends learn of her desire to go back to LA in her Cosmo essay, after crushing the exposé and helping save the school from further disarray.

Overall, while there was a lot to like about the LBU prequel series, especially Lexi Minetree, it's not what I had expected of the series. After watching the entire first season, I had hoped it would resemble much of the latter episodes, where Elle is totally fearless and is making big fashion-forward decisions in a pink power suit. I would have loved to have seen more of that strong, stylish and straightforward confidence that made Elle, well, Elle Woods in the movie, not-so-much the outsider that she's now styled to be in the series.

‘The Westies’ (July 12, MGM+)

One of my most anticipated shows of the month is “The Westies,” a new crime drama created and executive produced by Chris Brancato, a master of TV crime fiction who previously built massive streaming staples like “Narcos” and “Godfather of Harlem.” It looks to be an uncompromisingly violent crime epic based on the bloody, real-life history of New York City’s notorious Irish-American organized crime gang of the same name.

Set in 1980s Hell’s Kitchen, this crime drama follows a violent Irish-American gang capitalizing on the lucrative construction of the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Led by veteran figure Eamon Sweeney (J.K Simmons), the crew maintains an uneasy truce with the vastly larger Italian Mafia. ‘Lucky’ (July 15, Apple TV)

‘Ride or Die’ (July 15, Prime Video)

One of Prime Video’s biggest original releases in July is“Ride or Die,” a comedy series packed with a surprising amount of action. The absolute driving force of the series is its massive, charismatic lead duo, who both star in and executive produce the project, Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer. While this month has plenty of thrillers for hardcore streamers, “Ride or Die” seems like an incredibly fun time for those who need something easy.

This action-comedy follows lifelong best friends Debbie Claybourne (Octavia Spencer) and Judith Burton (Hannah Waddingham), who believe they share absolutely every secret. Soon, Debbie discovers Judith has secretly been operating as an elite international assassin. ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ season 3 (July 26, AMC)

“The Walking Dead” fans rejoice, because the franchise returns with “Dead City” season 3. While it's not the strongest spinoff in the franchise, it's definitely one of the most visually distinctive. Starting today, Peacock subscribers can a STARZ subscription using their account page. The option is available for every tier of Peacock including Select, Premium and Premium Plus.

"With our compelling slate of hit original series for women and underrepresented audiences, alongside our vast portfolio of premium Pay 1 and library films, STARZ helps create a more complete and diverse offering for customers," Starz President Alison Hoffman said in a press release.

For the unfamiliar, Starz tends to get exclusive rights to some streaming movies but they also have long-running and popular TV series like "Power" and "Outlander."

‘The Last Ship’

For thriller fans, you’ll want to binge-watch “The Last Ship” this week. Loosely based on the 1988 novel by William Brinkley, the show was executive produced by Hollywood action legend Michael Bay. This show very much behaves like a tense claustrophobic thriller, as the entire dynamic relies on the fact that the crew is completely isolated at sea, with the world falling apart around them. Plus, there’s 56 episodes currently on Netflix, making it perfect for binge-watchers.

The crew of the USS Nathan James, a U.S. Navy destroyer, is deployed in the Arctic when a global virus spreads across the world. Cut off from communication, Captain Tom Chandler learns that most governments have collapsed and that civilian virologist Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) is aboard with critical research. As the ship remains unaffected, the crew is tasked with protecting Scott, securing resources, and travelling across the Atlantic to locate survivors and continue her work.

‘Agent Kim Reactivated’

There’s another compelling show for thriller fans, which is “Agent Kim Reactivated.” This Korean revenge series adapts the smash-hit digital webtoon Manager Kim into a hyper cinematic TV experience. It’s essentially a “John Wick” meets “Taken” blueprint, with the entire energy of the series shifting between a normal lifestyle and absolute chaos. “Agent Kim Reactivated” seems like an incredibly satisfying Friday-night binge-watch for those who need an adrenaline boost.

Kim Do-hyeon (So Ji-sub) is a quiet bank manager living an unremarkable life with his teenage daughter, Min-ji (Seo Su-min). Beneath his ordinary routine, he hides a past as an elite black-ops operative tied to covert North Korean missions. When Min-ji suddenly disappears after being kidnapped, Kim is forced to abandon his low-profile existence and reactivate his long-buried skills. Fans of thriller movies are spoilt for choice on Prime Video this week. The streaming service typically adds dozens of movies to its library on the first of each new month, and with July arriving this week, get ready to top up your watchlist with some very compelling thrillers.

With so many new arrivals on the streaming service, it can be rather overwhelming picking out the gems. That’s why I’ve combed through the recent additions for you and picked out three must-watch thriller movies. These include a chilling survival drama based on a true story, a warped romance starring Timothée Chalamet and a hilarious crime-fueled thriller from the director of “The Hangover” and “Joker” (also, “Joker 2,” but let's ignore that one).

These are three new to Prime Video thriller movies worth adding to your watchlist over the coming days.

'Alive' (1993)

“Alive” is one of the multiple movies about the real-life experience of a Uruguayan sports team that crashed in the Andes Mountains and had to survive for more than two months in the hostile region. While I’d argue 2023’s “Society of the Snow” is the best feature film dramatisation of this story that captivated the world, “Alive” is no slouch and, in this survival thriller starring Ethan Hawke and Josh Hamilton, successfully chronicles the hardships endured by these men thrown into a frozen nightmare.

Flying over the Andes mountain range on October 13, 1972, the members of the Stella Maris College's Old Christians Rugby Team are stranded in the snow-blanketed region after a plane crash. To survive the harsh conditions, they are forced to take extreme measures and even contemplate the unthinkable: eating their deceased teammates. Eventually, a small group sets off on a perilous trek in the hopes of finding rescue.

'Bones and All' (2022)

“Bones and All” offers up Timothée Chalamet as you’ve never seen him before, and I don’t just mean because his trademark curls have been dyed red. In this dark thriller that mashes together a host of tones, including romance and horror, Chalamet plays a young man with an uncontrollable appetite for human flesh. It's not only a skin-crawling movie, but also a surprisingly tender one, with a sweet (but doomed) love story at its core.

The flick opens with the adolescent experience of Maren (Taylor Russell). Abandoned by her father on her 18th birthday as he’s unable to cope with her hunger for human flesh, Maren becomes a drifter and meets Lee (Chalamet). The two become companions and then lovers. But their odyssey across America leads to a confrontation with Sully (Mark Rylance), a warped “eater” obsessed with Maren.

War Dogs (2016)

One of my more memorable movie-watching experiences was watching a PG-cut of “War Dogs” on a plane. The R-rated flick had been censored to remove all the curse words. This crime thriller comes from “The Hangover” and “Joker” director Todd Phillips, so let’s just say there is a lot of cursing. This actually made the movie absolutely hilarious, but not for the intended reason. Fortunately, Prime Video is adding the uncensored version this week. So you can enjoy it with all the f-bombs very much intact!

Inspired by a true story, “War Dogs” centers on David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill), two small-time hustlers who discover that military equipment contracts are posted publicly for anybody to bid on. So, they create their own arms-dealing company and start selling hundreds of millions of dollars worth of ammunition to the American government. Before long, they find themselves in over their heads and in hot water.

"Little Brother" puts a fresh spin on the classic odd-couple comedy, with Eric André's signature brand of cringe humor paring hilariously with John Cena's buttoned-up straight man schtick. 'Bad Trip' (2021)

For more of Eric Andre's shenanigans, check out his outrageous hidden-camera comedy "Bad Trip" that mixes a road-trip story with elaborate pranks played on unsuspecting strangers. It's like a cross between "Borat," "Impractical Jokers," and "Bad Grandpa," where the scripted plot serves as a vehicle for increasingly absurd real-world reactions. It's good, stupid fun that'll catch you off guard more often than not.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai and starring André, Lil Rel Howery and Tiffany Haddish, the 84-minute comedy is packed with over-the-top gags and gloriously awkward moments while still giving its stars space to show off their side-slitting chops. If you're in the mood for something unapologetically silly that's designed to make you laugh from start to finish, "Bad Trip" more than gets the job done.

'One of Them Days' (2025)

Keke Palmer and SZA's buddy comedy "One of Them Days" is one of those movies I return to whenever I need a good laugh (one joke about a tumble-weave never fails to make me lose it). Directed by Lawrence Lamont, it follows two broke besties, Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA), in desperate need of cash after Alyssa's boyfriend Keshawn (Joshua Neal) runs off with their rent money.

With just hours to come up with $1,500 before their landlord kicks them out, the two scramble to scrounge up the cash by any means necessary — and piss off a major gang banger in the process. And though it has plenty of laughs, beneath the chaos and a great cameo by Katt Williams is a genuinely sweet story about showing up for who matters most to you. Palmer and SZA are hilarious together, and if you’re into comedies with a lot of heart, this one’s definitely worth watching.

'Triangle of Sadness' (2022)

For more "eat the rich" vibes, look no further than director Ruben Östlund's 2022 Palme d'Or winner, "Triangle of Sadness," a razor-sharp satire that takes place in one place the mega-rich feel untouchable: a luxury yacht. The story follows model Carl (Harris Dickinson) and influencer Yaya (Charlbi Dean Kriek), a young couple whose already strained relationship is pushed to its limits onboard an extravagant cruise that goes sideways.

Not only is The Captain (Woody Harrelson) a drunk who can't be bothered to uphold his duties, but a series of increasingly disastrous events exposes just how fragile the social order really is. Mixing barbed social satire with lowbrow humor, "Triangle of Sadness" isn't afraid of taking itself too seriously, embracing chaos at every turn.

One of the biggest Prime Video shows premiering in summer 2026 is "Elle," a new '90s-set coming-of-age comedy series starring someone we all know and love: Elle Woods.

The character of Elle Woods — that bubbly blonde taken with all things designer fashion and legally binding — has become one of pop culture's most enduring figures these last 25 years but in the upcoming prequel series "Elle," which premieres on Prime Video on July 1, the ultimate Cali girl is just another high-school teen (played by Lexi Minetree) trying to navigate bullies, crushes and the unfamiliar halls of a new school. In moody Seattle, no less!

But seeing the youthful origins of Elle Woods has us wanting to go back to where the franchise all started, before the Broadway show ("Legally Blonde: The Musical"), before the prequels and sequels ("Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde"), back when "Bend...and snap!" first entered our collective consciousness. And with the original "Legally Blonde" officially turning the big 2-5 this year and Legally Able to Rent a Car, there's no better time to revisit the Reese Witherspoon-led classic. Here's why you should stream "Legally Blonde" now on Prime Video before tuning into "Elle" next month.

What is 'Legally Blonde' about?

With an instantly iconic lead performance by Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, "Legally Blonde" centers on the aforementioned Elle Woods, a Los Angeles sorority girl who is pretty much solely concerned with fashion, fun and her fetching boyfriend Warner Huntington III (Matthew Davis). However, when Warner dumps her because she's not "serious" enough for someone who will soon be attending Harvard Law School, Elle is determined to win him back—and she's going to Harvard to do it.

But when Witherspoon's character makes her way to the Ivy League institution, her vivacious spirit and preference for pink quickly clash with the school's more buttoned-up culture, especially with Warner's WASPy new fiancé, Vivian Kensington (Selma Blair). Eager to win over not only Warner but also her East Coast classmates, Elle works hard to understand the law and gets the chance to work on a high-profile murder case that will change her life.

Why now is the perfect time to stream 'Legally Blonde'

There's a reason that Elle Woods and "Legally Blonde" at large still charm a quarter-century later. It's because, while Elle's original goal may be boyfriend-related, the Robert Luketic-directed flick is a romantic comedy between a young woman and her own potential. Elle was always intelligent, ambitious and resilient; she just needed to get dumped by Warner to see all of that for herself.

"At least once a week, I have a woman come up to me and say, 'I went to law school because of 'Legally Blonde,'" Witherspoon previously shared with The Wall Street Journal. "It's incredible ... You can be unapologetically feminine but also smart and driven."

In terms of endurance, it certainly helps that "Legally Blonde" is not only inspiring but also hilarious, with a quick-witted script and a great ensemble cast — including Luke Wilson, Victor Garber, Holland Taylor, Linda Cardellini and an especially scene-stealing Jennifer Coolidge — supporting Witherspoon's mega-watt, Golden Globe-nominated performance.

July is all about vacations, backyard barbecues and squeezing every last drop out of summer. If you're spending more time outside than planted on the couch, now's also a good time to trim a few recurring expenses — starting with the streaming services you're barely opening.

According to Lending Tree, the average American spends about $84 a month on some combination of the best streaming services. With streaming costs continuing to creep upward, keeping every platform year-round is harder to justify. Rotating your subscriptions based on what's actually worth watching remains the smartest way to save money without feeling like you're missing out.

For July 2026, the easiest services to put on pause are Prime Video, Disney+ and Hulu. Each has a few notable additions, but not enough to make a compelling case for sticking around all month. Here's why these three streamers are the ones to cancel for now.

Why I'd cancel Prime Video

Prime Video is a bit of an oddball on this list because, for most people, it comes bundled with an Amazon Prime membership rather than as a standalone subscription. If you actually pay for it separately, though, July is a good month to cancel Prime Video.

The service still has a deep catalog, but new releases are what keep a streaming subscription feeling worthwhile, and July 2026's Prime Video lineup feels rather lackluster. There are a couple of decent additions, but nothing that feels like the kind of must-watch TV or movie that demands you keep paying for another month.

The most noteworthy title is "Elle," a prequel series to the "Legally Blonde" movies that premieres July 1. It follows teen Elle Woods (Lexi Minetree), years before she conquered Harvard Law School. After her family relocates from Bel-Air to Seattle, a pink-clad Elle finds herself starting over ... in 1995, during peak grunge era.

Another big release on July 15 is "Ride or Die," an action comedy series starring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham as friends who have to go on the run from a mysterious enemy — but it turns out, one of them is a trained assassin!

Last thing of note, the animated series "Batman: Caped Crusader" returns for season 2 on July 31. But that's literally the last day of the month, so it barely counts.

All in all, there's nothing here that really lands with that “drop everything and watch this tonight” energy. In all three of these cases, you can cancel now, wait a few weeks, cancel now, and just jump back in down the road when there are buzzier titles to view.

Why I'd cancel Disney+ and Hulu

Disney+ and Hulu are bundled for many subscribers, which does create savings, but also has a way of hiding just how much you're paying for and how much you're actually using both.

While Disney+ is a go-to for families, July is one of those rare stretches when it's less necessary when you factor in outdoor time, camps, and vacations. Hulu feels less essential during this time, as well, with ABC's season over. The services themselves seem to know it, as the Disney+ and Hulu July 2026 calendar is pretty bare.

The only Disney+ originals of note are "X-Men '97" season 2 on July 1 and "Descendants: Wicked Wonderland," the fifth in the Disney Channel's musical fantasy film franchise," on July 17.

As for Hulu, it's got several interesting releases on deck, like the boxing drama film "They Fight" on July 17, the crime thriller series "Furious" on July 27, Lollapalooz live streams starting July 30, and the twentysomething comedy "Adults" on July 31.

Note how most of those dates are later in the month. If you cancel Hulu alongside Disney+, you'd barely have to wait at all to binge them, while still saving at least a month's subscription.

How much you'll save by canceling Prime Video, Disney+ and Hulu

Canceling Prime Video, Disney+ and Hulu this month can save you more than you’d expect, especially in a season when you’re likely not using them all that much anyway.

Disney+ and Hulu’s bundled plan runs $12.99/month with ads, or $19.99/month for the ad-free tier. Separately, Disney+ with ads and Hulu with ads are $11.99/month; without ads, each is $18.99/month. Prime Video comes in at $8.99/month for the ad-supported standalone version, while the ad-free option is $13.98/month. And for most subscribers, it’s worth remembering that Amazon Prime itself costs $14.99/month and comes with ad-supported Prime Video.

Taken together, stepping away from these services for a month can realistically put roughly $18 to $30+ back in your pocket, depending on how you subscribe. It doesn’t sound like a life-changing amount on its own, but these small monthly charges quietly stack up in the background. At a time when everyday costs are already high, saving a little now can leave room for bigger expenses coming later in the year.

This week’s selection of new movies across the best streaming services is well-stocked with options to suit all tastes. Best of all, some of the biggest platforms around will have new movies for subscribers to watch, including Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu and more.

Netflix is dropping a double-dose of new movie goodness, with the release of detective mystery sequel “Enola Holmes 3,” and the big red streamer is also adding soulful British drama “The Choral.” Meanwhile, HBO Max has a very gory horror, and Hulu has a horror-comedy that is heavy on the fake blood but opts for a more humorous approach.

Speaking of horror, this week the breakout hit of 2026, “Obsession,” finally arrives on premium streaming. Directed by 26-year-old YouTube creator Curry Barker, the film had a budget of just $750,000 and generated box office of $372 million worldwide.

There are plenty of newcomers to add to your watchlist, so I’ve put in the legwork and rounded up the most noteworthy new movies this week. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ (PVOD)

20 years later, “The Devil Wears Prada” hasn’t gone out of fashion, so a sequel was something of an inevitability. While this long-awaited follow-up copies the blueprint established by previous “legacy sequels,” it offers fans exactly what they wanted: the original cast reunited, and plenty of callbacks to the original. Does it live up to the legacy of its iconic 2006 predecessor? Not for me, but “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is sure to delight longtime fans.

With the magazine business no longer in its heyday, the frosty editor-in-chief of fashion mag Runway, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), is forced to turn to her former assistant, Andy Sachs (Anna Hathaway). As the pair navigate the evolving (should that be declining) world of print publishing, they face competition from another old colleague, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt). And don’t worry, Nigel (Stanley Tucci) also returns to lend a hand.

‘Obsession’ (PVOD)

Undoubtedly, 2026’s biggest success story to date is “Obsession.” This low-budget horror was produced for less than $1 million and has grossed more than $370 million worldwide. And it’s not just made eye-watering money. It boasts remarkable scores from critics and audiences alike. I rank it as the best horror film of the year, thanks to its clever concept, phenomenal direction from Curry Baker, and its star-making turn by Inde Navarrette.

Bear (Michael Johnston) is a timid record-store worker, infatuated with his colleague and friend, Nikki (Navarrette). After obtaining a “One Wish Willow” from a trinket shop, he makes a wish for Nikki to love him “more than anyone in the world.” Turns out this cheap novelty item is the real deal, and his wish comes true. But getting what he wants comes with some serious dark consequences. “Obsession” might be the movie of 2026.

‘Enola Holmes 3’ (Netflix)

Millie Bobby Brown’s latest Netflix project sees her once again slip into the role of youthful super-sleuth, Enola Holmes. I’m largely interested in this second sequel because director Philip Barantini is stepping into the fold. Barantini is known for helming Netflix’s awards juggernaut “Adolescence.” Enola Holmes is one of Netflix’s more popular properties, so even if the quality dips here, I’m expecting this original to quickly become a No. 1 hit.

The third flick in the series will see the “Stranger Things” star once again play the younger sibling of Sherlock Holmes (played in this adaptation by Henry Cavill). After two adventures, she’s an established sleuth herself, and this time she’s jetting off to Malta to tackle a case “more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.” Alongside Brown and Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel and Louis Partridge all return, too.

‘The Choral’ (Netflix)

“The Choral” will no doubt be overshadowed on Netflix by the release of “Enola Holmes 3,” but I encourage you to give this British historical drama a chance. Partially because of the sterling work by Ralph Fiennes, but also because it explores WWI from a fresh angle, which is not an easy feat with many films set during this conflict. It also pays tribute to the healing power of music and performance, which is an overall message I can get behind.

Set in the (fictional) Yorkshire town of Ramsden in 1916, Dr. Henry Guthrie (Fiennes) is appointed the choirmaster of the local choral society. Due to Guthrie’s homosexuality, love of Germany, and his atheistic beliefs, it’s a controversial pick, with townsfolk outraged at his selection. But under Guthrie’s leadership, the group puts together a performance of Edward Elgar’s “The Dream of Gerontius” that brings the community together.

‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ (Hulu)

If we’re talking unnecessary sequel, “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” falls into the category (as does “Prada 2”; fight me), but at least the final result delivers a good time for anybody craving a horror-comedy that emphasizes the comedy. Making little attempt to shake up the formula, “Ready or Not 2” is basically a rerun of the first movie, but it does add Kathryn Newton to the mix, who plays the headstrong sister of the original's protagonist, Grace.

Opening where the first movie ended, Grace (Samara Weaving) has survived her nightmare ordeal with the Le Domas family. Reunited with her estranged sister, Faith (Newton), the siblings are thrown into a new cat-and-mouse game as they become the prey in another deadly spin on hide-and-seek. Hunted by a group of elites, each vying to become the leader of a secret cult, Grace and Faith must pull together to survive this bloody ordeal.

‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy’ (HBO Max)

It’s perhaps fitting that “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” heads to HBO Max just a week ahead of “Evil Dead Burn” landing in theaters. Cronin was the filmmaker behind 2023’s “Evil Dead Rise” and reportedly turned down the chance to work on “Burn” to make this movie instead. Funnily enough, his spin on “The Mummy” feels like an “Evil Dead” flick in all but name, which is to say, it’s packed with grotesque moments and buckets of fake blood.

There’s no Brendan Fraser or globe-trotting adventure here; instead, “The Mummy” takes a supernatural horror approach. A TV journalist (Jack Reynor) is stunned when his daughter (Natalie Grace) is found eight years after going missing in Egypt. However, her homecoming turns dark when it becomes clear she’s been possessed by a sinister evil. This movie is a total gore-fest, but in all the bloody chaos, it neglects to craft genuine scares

‘Protector’ (MGM+)

Last month, MGM+ became the streaming home of “Project Hail Mary,” so if you signed up to watch Ryan Gosling’s fantastic sci-fi epic and are wondering what to stream next, the service is offering up “Protector.” I’ll warn you now, this action-thriller doesn’t have good reviews (17% on Rotten Tomatoes), but if you’ve ever wanted to watch a movie that is basically “Taken” but with Milla Jovovich instead of Liam Neeson, then you’re in luck.

Nikki (Jovovich) is a former soldier who has left her violent life behind to raise her daughter, Chloe (Isabel Myers). But when sex traffickers kidnap Chloe, Nikki has to use her “particular set of skills” to locate her daughter before it’s too late. To find her, she’ll have to fight her way through the criminal underworld with the authorities and the military hot on her heels.

‘The Sheep Detectives’ (2026)

“The Sheep Detectives” is one of the most beautiful and heartwarming movies I've seen in a long time. This live action/CGI hybrid adapts Leonie Swann’s bestselling 2005 novel, capturing the same warmth and sophistication that made ‘90s family movies like “Babe” so special. While it’s rated PG and perfect for families, it doesn’t shear away from heavier, more mature ideas. If you enjoy cozy British murder mysteries, the charming animal logic of “Shaun the Sheep,” or the witty humor of modern ensemble comedies, this woolly whodunit is an absolute delight.

George Hardy (Hugh Jackman) is a shepherd who spends his evenings reading detective novels aloud to his beloved flock, never realizing they understand every word. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the local investigation stalls, prompting the sheep to launch an amateur investigation of their own. Led by the clever Lily (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), with the loyal Mopple (Chris O'Dowd) and the independent Sebastian (Bryan Cranston), the unlikely detectives venture beyond their familiar meadow.

‘Superman’ (2025)

There's no better time to rewatch “Superman” now that “Supergirl” has flown into theaters, since James Gunn is clearly intertwining their stories in the DC universe. What I love most about “Superman” is that it skips the traditional origin story we all know about, instead dropping audiences straight into the life of a younger hero who’s already established but still finding his footing. The result is a 129-minute celebration of everything that makes Superman such an enduring character, complete with stunning visuals that are the cherry on top.

A few years into his career as Earth’s protector, Superman (David Corenswet) is already an established hero balancing life as mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent with his responsibilities as the Man of Steel. When he intervenes in a growing international conflict, his actions spark widespread controversy and give ruthless tech billionaire Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) the opportunity to turn public opinion against him. As Luthor orchestrates an elaborate plan to destroy Superman’s reputation, Clark joins forces with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and several other metahumans to uncover the truth.

Adding “Ruthless” to this list is a bit of a rogue pick, but sometimes all you need is an intense action-thriller with a simple plot. “Ruthless” is a straightforward, unpretentious late-night popcorn movie that knows exactly what it wants to be, giving a veteran actor the chance to go full action hero. If you love tense, street-level vigilante stories where a determined protagonist wages a relentless one-man war against a criminal underbelly, this 2023 release delivers exactly what its title promises. Just don’t expect many surprises along the way.

Harry (Dermot Mulroney) is a high school wrestling coach who is still grieving the murder of his teenage daughter. When he discovers one of his students, Catia (Melissa Diaz), is being abused at home, he steps in to protect her, only for her to be swept into a dangerous human trafficking operation. If you're looking to find what new movies and shows Netflix is adding this week, I've got you covered. The streaming service is adding an impressive 48 new movies and shows this week, and there are quite a few titles worth adding to your watchlist.

The biggest name, at least among the Netflix originals, is "Enola Holmes 3." But it's not the only movie you'll want to watch this week. "A League of Their Own" and "Moneyball" are being added to the streaming service alongside the aforementioned Millie Bobby Brown flick, all three of which arrive on July 1 to kick off the month.

Things start well, as she's set to be married to Lord Twekesbury (Louis Partridge). But soon, it's revealed that her famous sibling is missing, and she's the one who needs to find him.

Why you should watch it: Fans of the previous two installments in this franchise will surely want to watch the third. But even if you haven't, the previous two movies did well among critics and audiences according to Rotten Tomatoes. So this movie might be worth checking out on its merits alone.

'Worst Neighbor Ever'

Genre: True crime docuseries

What it's about: From the creative minds that brought you "Worst Ex Ever" and "Worst Roommate Ever," this true crime docuseries focuses on the neighbor across the way that you just can't stand. Well, that is, if your neighbor is someone who mows the lawn naked or stalks you when you buy groceries.

Why you should watch it: If you love a true crime doc, chances are you've already watched the other "Worst Ever" shows. You won't want to miss this one regardless, and its "truth is stranger than fiction" stories are sure to entertain (and maybe even horrify) you.

'Survival of the Thickest' season 3

Genre: Comedy-drama series

What it's about: "Survival of the Thickest" stars Michelle Buteau as Mavis, a newly single Black woman looking for a fresh start. She starts as a struggling stylist, but her positive attitude and body positivity have her in a better place as the show enters its final season.

Why you should watch it: Who doesn't love a feel-good story with just a sprinkling of messiness? It's why the comedy-drama genre is so popular. This show delivers on both counts, and with the third season also serving as the show's final season, once it drops, you'll have a nice, bingeable, 24-episode series to watch.

'A League of Their Own'

Genre: Sports comedy-drama movie

What it's about: This movie tells the story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, and specifically, the Rockford Peaches. Set in World War II, when the men have gone off to fight, these women keep the sport of baseball alive in America's heartland, and the team's roster is loaded. Geena Davis stars as Dorothy "Dottie" Hinson, Madonna as "All the Way" Mae Mordabito, Lori Petty as Kit Keller and Rosie O’Donnell as Doris Murphy. Bringing up the rear is manager Jimmy Dugan, played by the incomparable Tom Hanks.

Why you should watch it: If I tell you "There's no crying in baseball," there's a good chance you'll have not only heard the line before, but you'll know that it comes from "A League of Their Own." So whether it's your first watch or your fiftieth, now's the time to revisit this all-time classic sports movie.

'Moneyball'

Genre: Biographical sports drama movie

What it's about: If you’re an Oakland A’s fan, "Moneyball" is the story of how a team succeeded despite poor ownership. For everyone else, it's the tale of how baseball changed forever. Based on the Michael Lewis book of the same name, this biopic is the dramatic retelling of how the A’s general manager, Billy Beane (Brad Pitt), transformed how every Major League Baseball team evaluates talent.

Why you should watch it: Despite essentially leaving out Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, Barry Zito, Eric Chavez and Miguel Tejada, "Moneyball" is one of my favorite movies ever made. Pitt’s performance as Beane is incredible, as is Jonah Hill’s portrayal of Peter Brand, a fictional character partially based on real-life Beane assistant Paul DePodesta. I'll rewatch it any chance I get, and so should you.

If you like your Westerns with a little more meat behind the gun smoke, it’s time to head over to Tubi before "The Old Way" rides off into the sunset. This 2023 revenge tale stands as one of Nicolas Cage’s best — and most overlooked — Westerns, and it is well worth catching before it departs the platform.

Cage stars as Colton Briggs, a reformed gunslinger who traded his pistols for a wife, a child, and the quiet life of a general store owner. The peace he fought so hard for is shattered in an instant when the son of a man he killed decades ago rides into town looking for payback, leaving Briggs' wife dead in his wake. Strapping his old irons back on, Briggs refuses to leave his 12-year-old daughter behind. Instead, he brings her along for the ride, forcing her to see exactly who her father used to be — for better or worse.

"The Old Way" is streaming on Prime Video right now, and it is well worth your time, even if Westerns aren’t your usual jam. Seeing Cage trade his signature quirkiness for a somber, grounded performance alongside a remarkable young co-star is a genuine treat. This is one hidden gem you shouldn't miss.

What is 'The Old Way' about?

Colton Briggs (Nicolas Cage) is a retired gunslinger living a quiet life. Two decades ago he was a cold-blooded killer with a fearsome reputation, but the love of his wife Ruth (Kerry Knuppe) pulled him out of that world for good. Now he runs a general store, tends a small farm, and is raising his 12-year-old daughter Brooke (Ryan Kiera Armstrong). The only thing that troubles him is how withdrawn Brooke can be as it reminds him of his past.

Everything changes when four outlaws ride up to the farm. Their leader, James McAllister (Noah Le Gros), is the son of a man Colton gunned down 20 years ago and has come to settle an old debt in blood. With Colton and Brooke away in town, the gang murders Ruth and leaves a taunting message behind for him to find.

When the marshal urges him to grieve and let the law handle it, Colton has to make an important call. He digs out his old gunfighter's clothes and burns the homestead to the ground. Then, rather than leave Brooke in someone else's care, he saddles her up and brings her along on the hunt. He'll find revenge or die trying.

Why I recommend you stream 'The Old Way' right now

As someone who thinks a lot about the traits and burdens we pass down to our children — often without ever meaning to — this movie struck a powerful chord. I went in expecting a disposable, run-of-the-mill Nic Cage shoot-’em-up, but it proved to be surprisingly deep.

Look beneath the surface, and "The Old Way" isn't just about a man hunting the gang that murdered his wife. It's about a father slowly realizing that his daughter is inheriting the exact same coldness he spent 20 years trying to bury. Fortunately, the film doesn't bog itself down in heavy-handed melodrama; it keeps its eyes on the revenge plot, delivering a story that is both action-packed and, in many spots, deeply touching.

Cage delivers some of his finest, most controlled work here, perhaps his best since "Bringing Out the Dead". But the film's biggest surprise is young Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Brooke. She plays the girl with a genuinely unreadable, chilling stoicism that makes her character fascinating to watch. Her performance leaves you wondering whether Colton is protecting his daughter from the world, or accidentally mentoring the frontier's next deadly gunslinger.

"The Old Way" isn't a flashy or perfect movie by any means. But if you’re a fan of Nicolas Cage or looking for a Western with a psychological edge, it’s a journey well worth taking.

The new month is nearly here, and Paramount+ is adding a ton of new movies, shows and live sports to watch this July. Whether you are looking for a new binge watch or your next movie marathon, there's plenty to check out this month and more than a few things worth adding to your watchlist.

Top of the list is "Dutton Ranch." This new "Yellowstone" spin-off has been a surprisingly enjoyable show through its first several episodes, and on July 3, the season 1 finale arrives on Paramount+. Then, a few days later, the crime thriller movie "Wardriver" makes its streaming debut, and given the positive reviews it received in its theatrical release, you won't want to miss it. Nor will you want to miss "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 4, which premieres on the streaming service toward the end of the month.

‘Dutton Ranch’ season 1 finale

Genre: Neo-Western drama series

What's it about? "Dutton Ranch" has been addictive to watch in its debut season. The "Yellowstone" spin-off brings back Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly as Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton, but this time, they're starting over in Texas. They're hoping to get away from the baggage of Montana, but don't worry, there's plenty of new drama in the Lone Star State.

Why you should watch it: "Yellowstone" never really spoke to me, but I've been enjoying this spin-off. In my "Dutton Ranch" review, I highlighted Ed Harris and Annette Bening as being big reasons I liked it, and so far, they remain the highlights of the show. If it's any sort of ringing endorsement, I've been watching every week even though I no longer need to.

'Wardriver'

Genre: Crime thriller movie

What's it about? "Wardriver" stars Dane DeHaan as Cole, a hacker. He's lured into a deadly game of cat and mouse after getting caught up in a cyber heist, and if he's not careful, a wrong line of code could see him dead.

Why you should watch it: This one is complicated. On the one hand, it got rave reviews from critics. It's currently 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. But audiences were far less kinda, rating it just 57%. You'll have to watch to see who is right.

'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' season 4 premiere

Genre: Science fiction series

What's it about? "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" stars Anson Mount as Christopher Pike, captain of the USS Enterprise. He's joined by familiar names Spock (Ethan Peck), Number One (Rebecca Romijn), Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn) and several others that have appeared in previous "Star Trek" movies and shows.

Why you should watch it: Season 4 will cover the fourth year of the Enterprise's five-year mission, and it's been a largely well-received show through its first three seasons. Season 3 was less well-received than the previous two, but with just seasons 4 and 5 to go, this is the perfect time for you to start watching.

It’s officially summer, which means the biggest streaming services are rolling out fresh content to keep everyone entertained during these warmer months, Prime Video being one of them.

Prime Video has just released its full July 2026 lineup, so I’ve included the top picks we already know about, along with new library titles set to drop at the beginning of the month. This month's releases include the “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle,” which follows the titular character in her high school years. There’s also an action-packed comedy series starring Hannah Waddingham and the second season of an animated superhero show.

‘Elle’ (July 1)

“Elle” functions as an official TV prequel to the iconic 2001 film “Legally Blonde,” taking place six years before the events of the movie. Executive producer Reese Witherspoon actually revealed that she was directly inspired to create the spinoff after watching the massive success of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” realizing that audiences would love to see how an iconic character's distinct personality was forged during their high school years. It already seems like a bright, breezy, and fun piece of summer TV.

The show follows teenage Elle Woods (Lexi Minetree) in 1995, years before she becomes the confident law student audiences know from the films. After her family relocates from Bel-Air to Seattle, Elle finds herself starting over at a new high school, where she must form new friendships and get through the everyday chaos of adolescence. As she adjusts to her new surroundings, Elle relies on the support of her parents and close friends while discovering the experiences that help shape her future.

‘Ride or Die’ (July 15)

If you’re in the mood for a buddy action-comedy series, you’ll want “Ride or Die” on your watchlist. The creators explicitly set out to build a massive, blockbuster-scale action series anchored entirely by a platonic female friendship between two women in their 50s. Judging by the trailer, it aims to be a loud and high-energy popcorn thrill ride that thrives entirely on the electric chemistry between Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham.

Debbie Claybourne (Octavia Spencer) is a woman whose life is thrown into chaos when she discovers that her best friend of two decades, Judith Burton (Hannah Waddingham), has been hiding a shocking secret: she's an international assassin. When one of Judith's missions goes disastrously wrong and a dangerous figure from her past resurfaces, the pair is forced to flee across Europe together. The lifelong friends must rely on each other to survive an increasingly unpredictable adventure.

‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ season 2 (July 31)

Another big series on Prime Video this month is the second season of “Batman: Caped Crusader,” which stands as a spiritual successor to the legendary 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series,” bringing back original co-creator Bruce Timm alongside modern blockbuster masterminds Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams to produce the show. This series follows a young, deeply psychologically isolated Bruce Wayne in his early years as a masked vigilante.

Set in a shadowy version of Gotham City, “Batman: Caped Crusader” season 2 follows Bruce Wayne (Hamish Linklater) as he continues his war on crime while facing a new wave of dangerous criminals. As Batman digs deeper into the city's criminal underworld, he encounters notorious figures including Edward Nygma (Dave Franco), the Mad Hatter (Laraine Newman), Roxy Rocket, and the Joker (John DiMaggio), each bringing new challenges that test his skills as both a detective and vigilante.
