Wordle has been an obsession for tons of avid puzzlers for years now, but the beloved puzzle game is set to make the jump to our TV screens in the near future!

On May 11, we learned that NBC had greenlit a new primetime game show based on the New York Times puzzle that has "become a daily ritual for millions of players around the world" (as the NYT puts it).

The series is being produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio in partnership with Jimmy Fallon's Electric Hot Dog — with Fallon onboard as an executive producer — and the New York Times, and will see teams of players cracking five-letter puzzles in pursuit of a cash prize.

Right now, we don't have a release date for the Wordle TV show, though NBC has said that production on the show is set to begin later this year and that the show is "slated to premiere in 2027."

"TODAY" show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie has been confirmed as the host of the "Wordle" TV show. Executive producer Jimmy Fallon confirmed the news on the show on Monday, May 11; you can see that announcement below:

In a statement shared by NBC, Fallon said he was "very honored" to be working with Savannah Guthrie.

"Savannah has that rare combination of intelligence, charm and warmth that makes everyone feel instantly welcome. And she obviously knows how to host a show. I am SUPER PROUD and HAPPY, and I think we developed a SOLID GAMER for PRIME-time," he added.

How does the 'Wordle' game show work?

NBC has shared a brief explanation of how the new show will work, billing it as "a supersized battle of smarts, speed and fun" that will have players working to solve five-letter word puzzles, like the original game.

It reads: "The new format challenges players to solve five-letter word puzzles in a supersized battle of smarts, speed and fun. It builds on the way the puzzle community engages with Wordle every day — solving together, sharing wins, debating strategies and cheering one another on. Now, that style of play comes to life as the most-obsessed and competitive players will team up in squads and go head-to-head in the 'Wordle' arena, playing for an incredible cash prize."

Can I sign up for the 'Wordle' TV show?

The casting site says it's asking for teams of three players to apply. Per the casting site, selected teams will be heading to Europe to play the game over a 1-2 week period from July 20 to August 1 (dates subject to change).

Two streaming worlds are colliding. Today (Oct. 16), Apple TV (which recently dropped the Plus from its name) and Peacock announced a new streaming bundle that shares some content across the two apps.

There are two bundle tiers: Apple TV + Peacock Premium for $14.99 a month, or Apple TV + Peacock Premium Plus (ad-free) for $19.99. On their own, those would cost nearly double, so yes, this one’s actually a great deal to get two of the best streaming services.

"With this first-of-its-kind initiative with Apple, we’re redefining what the customer journey should be for a streaming bundle with rich sampling and a smooth sign-up process, and we’re broadening the reach of Peacock to even more audiences," Matt Strauss, Chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, said in the press release.

What is being shared?

If you get the bundle, you'll see Apple TV shows in your Peacock app and Peacock shows in Apple TV. At launch, it won't be everything but more of a sampler platter.

For example, on Peacock, you'll be able to watch up to three episodes of original Apple programs like the excellent "Slow Horses," "Foundation" and "Silo." In the Apple TV app, three episodes of NBCUniversal shows like "Law & Order," "Twisted Metal" and "Love Island Games" will be available to stream.

It seems like a teaser for each service's original shows and, later, sports offerings like the NBA — tipping off on Oct. 21 — and movies like Apple's "F1." According to Apple, more shows will be available soon, but it's not clear when or what will be available. Beyond that, the channels could possibly run "continue watching" options for each other's shows.

It's a bit confusing, but what you do get with this bundle is savings. Right now, an Apple TV subscription will set you back $12.99 a month, while the Peacock tiers cost $7.99 and 13.99 a month, respectively.

Streaming bundles are the future

Everyone’s tired of juggling seven subscriptions and the streamers know it. Bundling has quickly become the new streaming arms race strategy. Disney and Hulu already share one app (which makes sense, since they're owned by the same company), and those two teamed up with HBO Max for a bundle. Various cable channels and phone providers also offer bundles with their plans.

The idea is simple: fewer cancellations, more eyeballs and (hopefully) a little less subscription fatigue. For viewers, it’s a small win ... until, of course, everything gets rebundled and we realize they've reinvented cable.

After negotiating a last-second deal yesterday (Oct. 1) to keep NBCUniversal channels on YouTube TV, Google and the Comcast-owned media company have struck a new long-term deal. The multi-year agreement keeps access to Peacock, Universal Pictures media, and NBCUniversal channels across YouTube TV, YouTube and Google TV.

This all helps YouTube TV retain the top spot as one of the best live TV streaming services.

"We’ve secured long-term access to our full portfolio of broadcast and cable networks on YouTube TV, and we’re advancing our Peacock strategy with an upcoming launch on YouTube Primetime Channels and ongoing presence on Google TV," Matt Schnaars, President of Platform Distribution & Partnerships at NBCUniversal, said in a press release.

Prior to October 1, the two companies were negotiating over carriage fees to keep NBCU's content available on the live TV streaming service. NBC had been threatening to pull its channels from YouTube TV.

This isn't the first time NBC channels have gone dark. In 2021, NBCU briefly pulled channels when its carriage deal with YTTV expired, while the two companies were negotiating the just-lapsed agreement.

"This deal builds on our long-standing partnership with NBCU while addressing the evolving media landscape and recognizing the importance of making content available where and how viewers want to watch it,” said Justin Connolly, Vice President, Global Head of Media & Sports at YouTube in the press release.

If you watched any NBC channel in the last week, you may have noticed a scrolling message at the top of the screen begging viewers to contact YouTube TV to deal with NBCU. It was especially noticeable during the big Oregon vs Penn State whiteout game.

There were also advertisements on YouTube and during the game with similar lobbying messages.

Despite the aggressive lobbying, it's unlikely Google and NBCU were going to let anything actually get blacklisted, as both services are highly valuable to one another.

It's unclear from the press release how long this deal is meant to endure. The previous deal lasted four years. If the companies came to a similar agreement, we can expect this dance to happen again in 2029.

What's in the agreement?

Multiple NBCU channels will stay on YTTV, including NBC, Telemundo, Bravo and USA. Additionally, NBCUniversal will be launching a new NBC Sports Network channel that will be available on YouTube TV.

This new channel is meant to complement the sports coverage on the main NBC network. In the coming months, NBC says that the Peacock streaming service will be available as an add-on via the YouTube Primetime channels.

Additionally, media from Universal Pictures will be continue to be available to rent or buy via YouTube, YouTube TV and Google TV. That's in addition to film from NBCUniversal, which will be available on demand on YouTube Premium and YouTube Free Primetime Content.

Lastly, the companies announced that Peacock will continue to be available on Google Play and Google TV.

Live from New York, it's ... a whole new "Saturday Night Live" cast? Yes, it looks like after that historic 50th season of the long-running sketch-comedy series, the powers that be (akaLorne Michaels) are making some big casting changes over at Studio 8H.

Firstly, several longtime members of the "SNL" cast will reportedly not be returning to the late-night series when season 51 premieres this fall, kicking off on NBC and Peacock on Saturday, October 4 at 11:30 pm ET. Heidi Gardner, who joined as a main cast member in season 43 back in 2017, will depart the program after eight seasons. Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker will also join her in the cast exodus, after three seasons each.

Walker announced his "break-up" from “SNL” on Instagram on August 25, writing: “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f***ed up lil family.”

Emil Wakim similarly posted about his own departure to his Instagram — the comic was a featured player on "Saturday Night Live" for one season.

“I won’t be returning to SNL next year. It was a gut punch of a call to get but I’m so grateful for my time there,” Wakim wrote in his announcement. “Every time I scanned into the building I would think how insane it is to get to work there. It was the most terrifying, thrilling, and rewarding experience of my life and I will miss it dearly and all the brilliant people that work there that made it feel like a home.”

That leaves a wide-open gap for new talents, which will include freshly announced cast additions including Veronika Slowikowska, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson and Tommy Brennan, who are all joining season 51 as featured players.

Ben Marshall — who "SNL" fans already know as a member of Please Don't Destroy, the comedy trio behind Digital Shorts like "Lizzo Has Writer's Block," "Three Sad Virgins" and "Calling Angie" — has also been upped to featured-player status after five seasons with the show. Sadly, that means the PDD dudes are being split up, with Martin Herlihy remaining on staff as a writer and John Higgins leaving the show altogether.

There's no word yet about the future fates of the remaining "SNL" cast members, which include longtime "Weekend Update" anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost, as well as Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Marcello Hernandez, Ego Nwodim, Ashley Padilla Sarah Sherman, Jane Wickline, Bowen Yang and Kenan Thompson, the latter of whom holds the record as the longest-serving "Saturday Night Live" cast member in history, entering his 23rd season of the show this fall.

Aaron Korsh's legal drama "Suits" had a solid eight-year run on cable, but its explosive resurgence into the pop culture sphere after Netflix added it in 2023 is a comeback for the history books. Unfortunately, its spin-off, "Suits LA," isn't following in its footsteps.

NBC is shutting the doors on "Suits LA's" West Coast office after just one season, Variety reported this week. This expansion of the "Suits" universe led by Stephen Amell premiered in February with plenty of buzz.

The series follows a new cast of characters building an LA law firm focused on criminal and entertainment law. Several original “Suits” cast members have made appearances, including Gabriel Macht, Rick Hoffman, and David Costabile. We even called it one of our most anticipated shows of the year.

But NBC wasn't quite able to capture the same binge-worthy mix of legal chatter, character-driven drama, and stories worth caring about that made the USA Network original such a hit. "Suits LA" came off as a low-budget imitation of a finely crafted original, earning a 39% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. (The original 9 seasons of "Suits" rank between 78% and 100%.)

The ratings reflected that drop-off in quality as well. According to TVLine, "Suits LA" has averaged just 2.35 million total viewers. Out of the 11 dramas NBC aired this TV season, it only beat out fellow freshman "Grosse Pointe Garden Society" in terms of viewership.

Now it seems NBC has read the writing on the wall and realized "Suits LA" isn't the smash hit the studio thought it had on its hands. When the "Suits LA" season finale airs on May 18, it'll be the last hurrah for the "Suits" universe. For now, at any rate. NBC or another network could always revive the IP somewhere down the line.

"Suits LA" is one of five shows NBC is pulling the plug on, joining the ranks of "Lopez vs. Lopez," "Night Court," "Found" and "The Irrational." That list could grow, though, as the fates of other under-performing series like "The Hunting Party" and "Grosse Pointe Garden Society" remain up in the air.

"Suits LA" has been one of the shows I've most looked forward to streaming for a long time.

I've been a fan of Aaron Korsh's original legal drama since I stumbled across it on TV during its run on USA. "Suits" was a frothy, binge-worthy mix of legal chatter, relationship drama, and deeper secrets that played out across the glitzy offices of New York City that I've fondly revisited in the years since it came to an end.

It then reemerged in the pop culture sphere after being added to Netflix in 2023, where it suddenly became the show of the summer and easily the streaming service's most popular library title. With that kind of success, it was clear there was an appetite for more. Enter: "Suits LA".

Fast forward to now, and "Suits LA" is almost upon us. Ahead of the season premiere on NBC and Peacock, I had the chance to watch rough cuts of the first three episodes. Below, I've pulled together my thoughts on whether you should tune in for "Suits LA", or whether you should stream something else instead.

'What is 'Suits LA' about?

The drama in "Suits LA" revolves around Ted Black (Stephen Amell), a former federal prosecutor from New York who has since reinvented himself in Los Angeles and now represents some high-profile clients.

We meet him when his firm's in crisis, and he's forced to embrace a role he's held in contempt for his entire career to survive. And as if solving a crisis wasn't enough, across the series, we also learn about the fraught events that led Ted to abandon everything and everyone that he loved years ago.

Ted's surrounded by a talented group of characters, but in classic "Suits" fashion, they all test their loyalties to both Ted and one another as they can't help but mix their personal and professional lives.

Verdict: 'Suits LA' is more knockoff than knockout

Even with this small selection of episodes at hand, it's easy to connect at least some of the characters back to their "Suits" forebears, and "Suits LA" is clearly striving for the same sort of cocksure, brassy tone, just with the action playing out on the other side of the country.

Striving for the same flavor of drama sounds like a recipe for success, right? What made "Suits" so fun was that mix of personal and professional drama, after all. Well, I'm sorry to say that I came away from my viewing with the opinion that "Suits LA" felt like a cheap knock-off of a well-tailored original.

Mild spoilers for "Suits LA" episodes 1-3 below

The writing's not nearly as sharp or as fun and the dialogue at times ranges from hokey to downright cringe-inducing. Likewise, this pivot to a new branch of law might have helped define the show as more of its own beast, but it also hasn't served up stories worth caring about ... just yet.

The season-long arcs are somewhat intriguing, but the subplots have thus far felt like bland distractions, and the rivalries just lack the energy that was evident from the jump between, say, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman). It's too early to say if there's a romance worth rooting for like the one between Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) and Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle).

And, as much as I was ready to welcome another "Suits" lead into my viewing life, Stephen Amell just doesn't have the magnetic swagger that Macht had. That's not to say he's putting in a bad performance; indeed, most of the cast are generally doing decent work — most of the time — but they've just got muddled, lower-quality material to work with.

The worst problem, though, is simply how episodes are structured, or rather, how they seemingly lack structure. From the jump, you've got a LOT to keep up with — your new ensemble, their relationships, clients, personal histories — and it's all just thrown at you, with very little breathing room.

Before you can wrap your head around what's going on, cases and revelations begin piling up and you're also seeing flashbacks to Ted's past life. It's all a bit much for the opening episodes, even viewed back-to-back, and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of viewers come away from the season premiere feeling at least confused, rather than enthused.

There is a bright side, though; the third episode was easily the strongest of the three available for review. It feels somewhat more assured. And even if weaknesses are very much still present, it at least feels more settled into a rhythm. A light-hearted diversion featuring Brian Baumgartner and Patton Oswalt also makes for an entertaining story of the week.

With that improvement in mind, I'm hopeful that "Suits LA" can grow into something stronger. Specter's return has been teased but hasn't happened yet; maybe when he's finally roped in, things will liven up even further.

Nevertheless, the episodes I have seen do suggest that the show's doing little more than trying to emulate the original show. It's a mash of the types of things "Suits" fans should like — fast-talking, glossy drama with personal stakes, and a cast full of cocky characters and the odd left-field shock — but it's not nearly as slick or well-executed as what's come before.

"SNL 50" saw the legendary sketch comedy series celebrating its 50 years on the air with a huge primetime special on Sunday, Feb. 16.

Steve Martin's 'SNL' monologue

To celebrate comedy greatness, you want a comedy great to do your monologue, and "Saturday Night Live" roped in 79-year-old Steve Martin. Sure, he might have told us that the opening monologue is "traditionally the weakest part of the show", but his monologue was anything but.

Delivered perfectly and full of hilarious tributes, including that cutaway to the writers huddled outside in the rain or some barbs from John Mulaney and a (brief) appearance from his "Only Murders in the Building" co-star, Martin Short, it was full of laughs and (rightly) earned a warm reaction from the crowd.

Adam Sandler's '50 Years' song

When Adam Sandler showed up with his guitar in hand, we knew we were going to feel some serious emotions, and that's exactly what happened.

His emotional tribute to the show's past and the people who have made it what it is was easily one of the best segments of the entire show.

Sandler's song was funny, yes, but sentimental in all the right ways and it was a really touching way to reflect on the show's past. It also gets bonus points for the intro from none other than Jack Nicholson.

"Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey" returns

One of "SNL 50's" best surprises has to be the reappearance of "Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey", a brief segment of surreal blasts of easy listening music and daft musings penned and read out by the former writer, complete with an introductory voiceover from the late Phil Hartman.

Never mind Handey's thoughts on friendship or the friendships that have been forged in Studio 8H, he laid bare what really matters from the last 50 years: Money!

'Weekend Update'

"SNL 50" brought us a bumper "Weekend Update" once again chaired by Colin Jost and Michael Che,

The best moment of the entire segment has to be the return of ex-anchor, Bill Murray, who dove in with a ranking of his favorite "Weekend Update" anchors, though it also came complete with several roasts and an update on some SNL lore courtesy of the news Dunk Uncle (Bobby Moynihan) and Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation With at a Party (Cecily Strong) are having a baby.

'Chad in 8H'

Original castmate Laraine Newman somberly hopes to have a quiet moment to reflect on her memories of Studio 8H... but her memories are consistently interrupted by a deadpan Chad (Pete Davidson), who proceeds to undercut the moment as much as possible.

Yes, it was a moving tribute to the Not Ready for Primetime lot, but it was also a funny one. To borrow one of Chad's (only) words, the sketch was more than "okay!"

'Scared Straight'

"SNL's" recurring "Scared Straight" spoof returned for the 50th anniversary Ex-cons Lorenzo McIntosh (Kenan Thompson) and "All the Way" Ray May (Eddie Murphy) showed up at the behest of Jason Sudeikis to frighten the lives out of three troublesome shoplifting teens. In textbook fashion, they all went way too far.

Complete with the late arrival of Big Red (Will Ferrell) in his "spring uniform" and Ferrell's "Elf" gag, it was ridiculous viewing from the night.

'Anxiety'

I always assumed working on a live comedy show would be stressful, but in this seriously catchy song from Andy Samberg and Bowen Yang, we learned exactly how anxiety-inducing it really is.

Turns out Yang's not alone: everyone who has worked on "Saturday Night Live" over the years has had anxiety. It's got the same out-there energy of the Lonely Island's many bizarre tracks, and likely won't be leaving my brain anytime soon. (Though I think I still love the Portman raps more).

Honorable mentions

Whittling this list down was pretty tough, as the "SNL" 50th special really did do its best to celebrate the show's legacy. Here's a handful more moments that also stood out:

In the U.S., "Law & Order" season 24 returned with episode 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Thursday, January 16 on NBC. "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" season 26 returned straight after and airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Although Amazon have been dropping hints about "Beast Games" for weeks, the trailer has finally dropped and we know what we can expect the contestants to face for a shot at $5 million – and it ain't answering trivia questions. “The Office” – the groundbreaking sitcom by Ricky Gervais – has already spawned a smash-hit U.S. version starring Steve Carell. Now, an Australian version of "The Office" is hitting our screens.

After the first series of "Found" ended in a huge cliffhanger, fans of the missing persons drama  have been desperate for the second season to drop. Now the long wait is over as the first episode of "Found" season 2 will premiere on NBC on Thursday, October 3.

2024 has already served up a ton of great TV shows. While I've been doing my part to keep abreast of all the buzziest shows of the year — "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", "Shōgun" and "House of the Dragon" season 2 have been some of my faves thus far — I've also been keeping tabs on a show that probably doesn't feel like it belongs alongside my current rotation of prestige dramas, genre hits and comedies: NBC's "Suits" sequel series, "Suits LA".

"Suits" is one of the first TV dramas I remember really getting into when I was a teenager, and I've maintained a soft spot for its binge-able mix of legal battles and steamy personal drama ever since. 

After "Suits" experienced a huge resurgence when it arrived on Netflix last summer (clocking up 1.5 billion hours viewed across the year), we learned (via Deadline) that series creator Aaron Korsh was developing a follow-up for NBCUniversal. And, thankfully, NBC has decided to go ahead with a full season order with the new chapter after seeing a pilot. 

Sure, the other spinoff ("Pearson") didn't exactly become a big success, and I'm not sure anyone will be quite as magnetic as self-assured Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), but the series synopsis suggests "Suits LA" is about to be a vehicle for more of the drama that made the original "Suits" so watchable in the first place. 

If you're also excited for "Suits LA", I've pulled together all the info I could about the new show... including when we might finally lay eyes on it. 

What do we know about 'Suits LA' right now? 

The new series isn't a revival of "Suits." Per the series logline, we know the new chapter will throw the spotlight on Ted Black (Stephen Amell), a former federal prosecutor who has "reinvented" himself in LA. 

While he's used to representing some of the most powerful clients in the region, Black's firm is apparently at a crisis point, and he is forced to embrace a role he has up until now held in contempt to weather the storm.

He's also surrounded by an ensemble who test their loyalties to both Ted and one another... and who can't help but mix their personal and professional lives. Plus, Deadline adds that events from Ted's past led him to abandon everyone and everything that he loved. 

Aside from Amell, we know that the "Suits LA" pilot cast also includes Bryan Greenberg, Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis and Troy Winbush, with John Amos, Victoria Justice, and Kevin Weisman set to guest star. 

It is unclear whether the series will feature any of the original cast (pictured above). However, given Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht reunited for a T-Mobile Super Bowl commercial and Adams and Sarah Rafferty have teamed with SiriusXM to produce "Sidebar: A Suits Watch Podcast", it certainly seems like there could be an appetite for some of the stars to return, right? 

When will 'Suits LA' hit our screens?

It's not entirely clear when we might lay eyes on "Suits LA" just yet. Current rumors suggest it will fall sometime in the forthcoming TV season... though where, exactly, remains to be seen. 

Rolling Stone says that the show will return to TV screens 'this fall', though NBC has not included the show in its fall schedule and other outlets report that the network has not yet decided precisely when the series will air.

It's time to watch the 2024 Rose Parade online. The iconic New Year's Day event, which takes place before the Rose Bowl, remains a storied tradition despite a brief pandemic cancelation. Preakness is typically held two weeks after the Kentucky Derby at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. At 1.9 kilometers, it is the shortest race in the Triple Crown. 

This year's field features seven horses, after top contender First Mission was scratched by veterinarians. It's considered a weak field, so National Treasure, is leading the odds at 4-1.

Still, eyes are on Mage, as trainer Gustavo Delgado and jockey Javier Castellano have a tough track ahead of them. Only 13 horses have won the Triple Crown, with the last being Justify in 2018. 

The biggest storyline at the 2023 Preakness is the return of legendary trainer Bob Baffert to the Triple Crown after a two-year suspension. He was blocked when Medina Spirit failed a drug test after winning the 2021 Kentucky Derby. Now, he's back with National Treasure, listed at 4-1 odds. 

Sadly, there's bad news for Baffert: the horse Havnameltdown broke down on the track during the Chick Lang Stakes. The horse was euthanized on the tack, and jocket Luis Saez needed to be taken to a nearby hospital after being thrown t the ground.

10 hours before the race began, Florida Derby winner Forte got scratched from the race. Forte had been the 3-1 favorite. Now, Angel of Empire and Tapit Trice are the odds-on favorites, at 9-2 odds.

This year's field features 18 horses, and they'll run the 1.25-mile track in the hope of a first place finish and $1.86 million prize. The Kentucky Derby is the first leg of the Triple Crown of horse racing, followed by the Preakness two weeks from now and the Belmont Stakes in June.

Four other horses have been scratched from the list: Skinner, Practical Move, Lord Miles and Continuar.

Churchill Downs is dealing with a bit of a furor over the recent deaths of seven horses, which has ignited safety concerns. The venue said, "We have full confidence in our racing surfaces and have been assured by our riders and horsemen that they do as well.”

Peacock review: Price and availability

You can get Peacock Premium for $5.99 per month (or $59.99 per year) and the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus for $11.99 per month ($119.99 per year). 

Peacock Premium Plus' big feature, aside from removing ads from non-live content, is local NBC affiliates.

Unfortunately, there's a big old caveat for Peacock Premium Plus: it isn't completely ad-free. In Peacock's own words, "channels, live events, and some shows will still have ads."

Peacock review: Interface

If you've seen most modern streaming services, you won't be surprised by Peacock’s interface. You've got sections for Movies and TV at the top, a home page called Featured, the My Stuff section for things you've favorited, and two other sections. Peacock, much like Paramount Plus, stands out by offering sports (which has its own section). This contains live events, documentaries and sports-based TV shows. There's also the WWE on Peacock section, because Peacock became the exclusive U.S. distributor of the WWE Network, which presents Vince McMahon's sports entertainment live events and back catalogue.

Featured

The home page is fairly simple: you've got a carousel of promoted content, and below that a Continue Watching section for things you didn't finish. Unfortunately, you can't remove content from that list (a problem that other streaming services, such as Netflix and HBO Max, have faced and fixed). 

Then, you've got a row of more promoted items (Peacock Picks) and then a "just added" section to remind you that Peacock isn't a static collection. Below that, you've got more and more rows of thematically grouped content. At the very bottom, as if you've run out of content, there's a Coming Soon row where you can preview what's up next.

Channels

One of the unique parts of Peacock is its Channels section, which apes traditional cable with a series of linear and sometimes live sets of networks and collected content. While you start out with NBC News Now, a channel for MSNBC's daily content and NBC Sports, a lot of the other content is collections of previously aired programming (including "Below Deck", "In It To Win It" and Todd Chrisley-based content), giving you another way to "browse" the Peacock library. The live news is similar to what Paramount Plus gives you with CBS News and the rest feels like a sometimes-better version of the content you get on Pluto TV.

Frustratingly, I've found that the Channels section can be difficult to click around and navigate on even some of the best streaming devices (including the Apple TV 4K). Trying to navigate from live content to the grid-based guide doesn't always go too well.

The "SNL" Channel, Seth Meyers and "The Office" Channel don’t show full episodes, but rather clips and sketches from various seasons. For instance, once when I was watching the "SNL" Channel, it went from an '80s-era Eddie Murphy sketch to one with Adam Driver in a Del Taco audition. A few minutes later, it was showing Alec Baldwin’s Schwetty Balls sketch. 

By not airing full episodes of "SNL", Peacock presents a good way to avoid those late-in-the-show duds. But I wish the sketches were organized, rather than just being aired randomly. 

At the moment, these “live” channels don’t support pausing, fast-forward, or rewind, but Comcast is planning to add these features, as well as playlists and skipping ahead or back between shows in a channel. 

Movies and TV Shows

In each of these sections, you get what you'd expect: the recent releases that Peacock is promoting above groups of thematically similar content. At the very bottom, you've got A-Z sections. This situation isn't great or bad, just "typical." 

I just wish Peacock presented the A-Z sections in a grid (as Paramount Plus does) and not a row. A row of four tiles that has all of the movies and shows in a service takes a long time to navigate.

Peacock review: TV Shows

For a while, Peacock's strength was primarily based on its collections of certain pillars of the NBC library. It's got "The Office", "Parks and Recreation", "Cheers", a ton of "Law & Order" and "30 Rock". Sometimes, Peacock offers live episodes of "SNL", but it's not always going to happen.

But poking around you'll find a lot of stuff you may not associate with NBC. Those include "Downton Abbey", the medical procedural "House" starring Hugh Laurie that aired on Fox, the USA Network's "Monk" and ABC's "Modern Family". 

And on top of that, Peacock has some truly coveted shows, such as "Yellowstone". Yes, for some reason you need Peacock (and not Paramount Plus) to watch "Yellowstone", a series that airs on the Paramount Network. Peacock's also got reality TV on tap, with editions of "Bad Girls Club", "Real Housewives" and other hits.

As for exclusive originals, often the major reason why people subscribe to services, Peacock has had some well-liked shows, such as "Girls5Eva" (which convinced a TG staffer to shell out money for Peacock) and the "Saved By The Bell" revival. Still, though, Peacock is light on the big new hits, and still looking for its "Stranger Things", or to a lesser extent its "Ted Lasso". The latest-announced Peacock exclusive is the drama "Those About to Die". 

Peacock review: Movies

There is a seemingly ever-growing depth to the films library inside of Peacock. Opening the app right now, I can see plenty of movies that I would watch, like "Monkey Man", "Kung Fu Panda 4" and "Night Swim". 

Peacock also knows there's money in collections of movies. So it's got the "Harry Potter" films and "John Wick" movies, as well as several others. 

Peacock doesn't have the kind of new original exclusive films that Netflix has, though. But considering its lower price, we're not shocked.

Peacock review: Supported devices

After a rocky start, Peacock finally became ubiquitous. It took a while for a Peacock Roku app and even longer for a Peacock Fire TV app to show up.

Peacock review: Sports and WWE

Peacock stands out with sports, and that includes everything from rugby to supercross, and it's even got Premier League live streams and NFL live streams. Heck, it's even going to be one of the homes of Super Bowl 2022. Peacock will soon host the 2022 Winter Olympics, which comes after its run hosting select Tokyo Olympics events including the Team USA Men's Basketball games. It even livened things up with an interesting series called Peacock's Tokyo Tonight.

And in addition to sports, Peacock has something called sports entertainment, the term that Vince McMahon's WWE branded itself as. Yes, it's not pro wrestling to them. While Peacock's acquisition of the WWE Network proved to be a rocky affair, things have more or less normalized. Almost forgotten are the days when the Comcast-owned service decided which of WWE's less appropriate moments were fit to stream, and stream reliability issues. 

Instead, WWE fans in the U.S. get to save on the $4.99 per month Peacock as opposed to the $9.99 WWE Network. Ardent WWE fans will tell you, though, that Peacock is terrible for finding specific old matches and navigating a PPV. It also organizes decades of WWE events such as WrestleMania by "seasons," where each year's edition is its own season. It's unfinished, to say the least, but it's all fans have without resorting to a VPN to use the WWE Network in another country.

Peacock review: Bottom line

Thanks to its enormous catalog of important TV shows such as "Law & Order" and "The Office" (and its exclusivity deal with WWE) Peacock is a must for some folks. It's similar to how Disney Plus is the place you go for Marvel, Disney and Pixar.

This Peacock review shows that the service continues to fill itself with must-stream TV and more, even this far out past its inception But while a big hit still eludes Peacock, its lower-than-Netflix price, vault and live content make for a compelling lineup (to at least some, if not many).

Get ready to return to Chicago! Tonight, it's time to watch Chicago Fire season 11, Chicago PD season 10 and Chicago Med season 8 online. Dick Wolf's One Chicago franchise is back with new cases and some new faces — and of course, action and thrills. 

Chicago Med season 8 kicks the night off in the aftermath of the fire in Will's (Nick Gehlfuss) apartment. Doctors Marcel (Dominic Rains), Choi (Brian Tee) and Archer (Steven Weber) work together to try to save the survivors, including two of their own. 

Chicago Fire season 11 picks up after Lt. Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Lt. Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) got married. Their honeymoon is interrupted by some shady guys, putting them both in danger. Meanwhile, a new firefighter named Carver (Jake Lockett) joins the crew, but may turn out to be trouble. 

Chicago PD season 10 will be the last for Jesse Lee Soffer, who has played Detective Jay Halstead since the show first debuted in 2014. He will exit sometime this fall. How Halstead leaves — and where that leaves his wife, Det. Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) — remains to be seen. As for Sergeant Voight (Jason Beghe), he's still grieving after a significant death.

NBC is voting Million Dollar Island, its answer to the long-running CBS reality competition Survivor, off the network. NBC has canceled the show before it had the chance to premiere. 

According to Deadline, Million Dollar Island was in the casting phase when NBC decided to pull the plug. The reason was reportedly the show's big budget. 

Million Dollar Island was described as a "high-stakes social experiment." Based on a Dutch format, it sends 100 contestants to a remote island for up to 50 days. Compare that to Survivor, which typically has about 20 players and runs for 39 days or fewer. Both shows set $1 million grand prizes.

Like Survivor, Million Dollar Island contestants must build alliances and win challenges to make it to the end. Upon arrival, each player received a bracelet worth $10,000. When they left the game, they could choose who received their portion of the cash pool.

The show's cancellation comes on the heels of a shakeup within NBC's reality TV division. Jenny Groom, EVP Entertainment Unscripted Content, is leaving the company after 20 years. 

While Groom helped develop The Voice and America's Got Talent, NBC has struggled to find hits in recent years. Shows like the Eurovision dupe American Song Contest and Shakira's Dancing With Myself have failed to catch on. NBC booted The Courtship, a Bridgerton-esque dating series, to sibling network USA after just two episodes. 

Million Dollar Island may not be completely dead, as producers are reportedly shopping it to other outlets. They shouldn't look to Netflix — these days the streamer cancels more shows than they save. And recent reality shows are trending toward the singularly stupid.

Last month CBS confirmed it was canceling its Magnum P.I. reboot after four seasons. In the wake of this surprising announcement, it was reported that NBC was in talks to save the show, and it appears those discussions were fruitful. 

Deadline reports that talks went down to the wire, but NBC has officially closed on a deal to revive Magnum P.I. with the action-packed series set to run for 20 more episodes split across two seasons. This welcome revival will bring the rebooted show’s total episode count to 96, with NBC also holding the option to order further episodes as well. 

Its also been suggested that CBS Studios, which co-produced the show alongside Universal TV, has allowed the cast's contracts to run out and didn’t take up the option of extending them. This now leaves NBC free to finalize deals with the show’s main players, which isn’t expected to be a problem. 

Magnum P.I. is a reboot of the classic 1980s series of the same name. It sees the eponymous role made famous by Tom Selleck passed on to Jay Hernandez. Like the original series, the action-drama show follows the adventures of Thomas Magnum (Hernandez), a Navy SEAL turned private investigator. Each episode sees him using his military skills to solve crimes across Hawaii. 

While the show was far from a critical success — its first season scored a disappointing 57% on Rotten Tomatoes — it was popular with viewers as evidenced by its 74% audience score. CBS’s decision to cancel the show back in May was slightly puzzling, especially in light of its strong rating, but perhaps it was because of the show’s expensive production cost. Magnum P.I. is filmed on location in Hawaii, which will have definitely inflated its budget. 

While showrunners and key cast members often pitch recently canceled shows to other networks, it’s not particularly common for a show to be revived after being terminated. Recent successful examples include Brooklyn Nine-Nine moving to NBC after being canned by Fox, as well as mystery drama Manifest being picked up by Netflix after being axed over at NBC. 

We can now add Magnum P.I. to the small list of shows that managed to successfully find a new home after being initially canceled. This is great news for the show’s cast and creative time, but the biggest winners are the show’s dedicated viewers who will now get to enjoy Magnum solving at least 20 more cases. 

Update: It's now official, CBS has revived Magnum P.I. for two more seasons that will be comprised of 10 episodes each. 

Last month CBS confirmed it was canceling its Magnum P.I. reboot after four seasons. But the hope of a fifth season may not be entirely lost as Deadline reports that NBC (with some help from USA Network) is looking to revive the show. 

According to the trade, an arrangement is still being hashed out, but one scenario could see new episodes air on NBC, while USA Network would run previous seasons of the shows. No final agreement has been reached as of yet, so there is still a very real possibility that this incarnation of Magnum P.I. has solved his last case, but the current signs are promising.

While creatives and cast members often tout their shows to other networks and services in the wake of a cancelation, a show actually being revived after termination is surprisingly rare. 

A few high profiles examples in recent years include Brooklyn Nine-Nine moving to NBC after being canned by Fox, as well as mystery drama Manifest being picked up by Netflix after its axing by NBC. However, TV history is littered with significantly more shows that couldn’t find a new home despite plenty of fan pleading. 

Fingers crossed Magnum P.I. is one of the rare exceptions that find itself a new home. The show certainty has strong enough ratings to suggest that a season five is warranted, and it seems that NBC/USA Network are keen to get the deal over the line.
