AI is rapidly becoming the new storefront. Instead of scrolling through pages of search results, more shoppers are asking AI assistants to recommend products, compare prices and narrow down options. But a new report argues that those same AI systems may also be quietly shaping what consumers never see.

Researchers at Columbia Law School's Center for Law and the Economy have published a report accusing Amazon and Walmart of using their AI shopping assistants in ways that make American-made products harder to find, despite the systems appearing capable of identifying them.

The report, Made in America, Hidden by AI, examined how Amazon's and Walmart's AI shopping tools responded to questions about products made in the United States. According to the researchers, Amazon's chatbot often declined to answer straightforward questions about American-made products while readily answering equivalent questions about products manufactured in China. After rephrasing the same request, however, the chatbot returned American-made products using information that had been available all along.

"We tested these systems the way an engineer would, and the refusals fell apart under basic testing," Erie Meyer, senior fellow at the Center for Law and the Economy and one of the report's authors, said. "The data was there, but the design was built to hide it."

AI shopping assistants are becoming gatekeepers

The report arrives as retailers increasingly push shoppers toward AI-powered recommendations instead of traditional keyword searches. Whether it's suggesting products, comparing alternatives or summarizing reviews, these assistants are becoming the first stop for many online purchases.

According to the report, neither Amazon nor Walmart currently offers shoppers a dedicated "Made in USA" filter, despite providing hundreds of other filtering options across many product categories. The researchers argue that if AI assistants become the primary interface for online shopping, the way they choose what information to surface, or withhold, could influence purchasing decisions on a massive scale.

I tried it by asking for a few common items like furniture and fishing poles, Alexa+ said it did not have access to the information. However, when I asked for American flags made in the U.S.A., it supplied a product that matched my query.

Lina Khan, director of the Center for Law and the Economy and former chair of the Federal Trade Commission, said the findings demonstrate that increasingly sophisticated AI systems are still shaped by the incentives behind them.

"Even as AI tools continue to grow in sophistication and capability, business incentives will shape how these advancements get deployed," Khan said. "Policymakers and enforcers have a vital role to play to ensure the public doesn't get the short end of the stick."

The systems appear capable of spotting suspicious claims

One of the report's more interesting findings is that both companies' AI assistants appeared able to identify potentially misleading "Made in USA" claims.

According to the researchers, Amazon's chatbot identified listings where promotional material claimed products were American-made despite evidence suggesting they were imported. Walmart's chatbot reportedly ranked "Made in USA" claims by how suspicious they appeared based on factors including seller information and manufacturing footprints.

The authors argue this demonstrates the underlying AI systems have the technical capability to help identify questionable origin claims. However, the report does not establish that Amazon or Walmart internally use these capabilities for marketplace enforcement.

Amazon responds

In a statement to Reuters, Amazon disputed the broader implication that it hides country-of-origin information from shoppers.

"Country-of-origin information, when available, is currently displayed on product detail pages, and we're continually working to improve Alexa for Shopping to make this information even more accessible for customers," an Amazon spokesperson said.

Walmart did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

Bottom line

The report highlights a question that is likely to become more important as AI shopping assistants continue to replace traditional search. If consumers rely on AI to decide what products to buy, the design choices behind those systems become far more consequential.

Decisions about which products are surfaced first, which attributes are emphasized and which questions receive complete answers could shape purchasing behavior in ways that are largely invisible to shoppers.

Simply put, it’s a period where non-Amazon retailers launch competing sales events with attractive discounts for all manner of items. Now that we’re smack dab in the middle of this year’s installment of Prime Day sales, I’m keen on checking out the abundance of sweet deals I can find.

As a fan of wearable devices, video games, action flicks, trading card games and books, I had a feeling that some of the retailers I frequent inside and outside my home could hook me up with the appropriate items.

So I made a beeline to ChatGPT and asked it what methods I should adopt to cash in on the most appealing Anti-Prime Day sales. Not only did it show me the best price history tools to use, but it also sent me to one of my favorite retailers to discover discounts that are better than some Prime Day sales.

Adopting the best Anti-Prime Day discount searching methods

After asking ChatGPT how to come out at the end of Anti-Prime Day sales with the best deals imaginable, it responded with this statement to put me on the right path:

If you're trying to find the best Anti-Prime Day sales, the goal isn't just to avoid shopping on Prime Day—it's to take advantage of the fact that almost every major retailer launches competing discounts during the same period.

Then it went on to list a bunch of competing online retailers that currently have a long list of amazing products being sold at good to great prices:

• Best Buy (Tech Fest Sale; Ends on Sunday, June 28)
• Kohl’s (Deal Days; Ends on Sunday, June 28)
• Cozy Earth (Cozy Day Deals: Ends on Saturday, June 27)
• Bugaboo (Summer Sale; Ends on Tuesday, July 7)

The chatbot also made mention of what items tend to get discounted to their lowest possible prices during Anti-Prime Day sales. The ones that stood out to me from that list included physical video games, gaming accessories, headphones, anime box sets, graphic novel omnibuses, manga box sets, LEGO sets and 4K Blu-rays.

ChatGPT also recommended the perfect Anti-Prime Day setup to rely on, which primarily focused on using a bunch of efficient price history tools:

• Keepa for deep Amazon price history.
• CamelCamelCamel for quick verification.
• Slickdeals alerts for deal discovery.
• Honey for cross-retailer coupon and price tracking.
• Compare prices at Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Barnes & Noble before buying.
• One useful rule: if a Prime Day deal isn't at or near the lowest price shown in Keepa or CamelCamelCamel, it's usually worth waiting for a better sale later in the year. Multiple deal experts and experienced shoppers use that exact approach to avoid fake discounts and inflated "was" prices.

The six Best Buy goodies I came across

Since my main focus during all those Anti-Prime Day sales was getting the best prices for a new smartwatch, a couple of video games, a collection of films starring an iconic spy and a set of trading cards I had been eyeing for a long time, I ended up on Best Buy’s digital storefront and found exactly what I wanted.

And what’s even better about these finds is how their discounts ended up being better than the ones seen on Amazon:

The takeaway

I owe it to my living under a cave at some point and not even knowing about Anti-Prime Day before this little ChatGPT experiment I conducted. Better late than never, I say!

My go-to chatbot helped me set up a winning game plan for this week’s digital sales from a variety of online retailers, use price history tools to compare all the items I had sitting on my Amazon wish list and find much better prices for those same items through Best Buy.

What started this year as a money-saving experiment has now morphed into an annual tradition for me and my wallet.

I love finding ways to buy the things I want without completely wrecking my budget. Whether I’m digging through bookstores, gaming shops, vintage stores or endlessly scrolling Amazon and eBay at 1 a.m., there’s something deeply satisfying about getting a great haul for less than expected.

Lately, my latest obsession has been building a proper home gym.

Not the kind filled with expensive machines and influencer-approved gadgets, but a realistic setup I could actually use every day without spending hundreds of dollars. The problem is that fitness gear adds up fast. A decent pair of dumbbells alone can wipe out a budget before you even think about mats, resistance bands or a bench.

So instead of spending hours comparison shopping across Walmart listings, I decided to hand the challenge over to ChatGPT.

I gave the AI a simple mission: build me the cheapest possible home gym from Walmart with everything I actually need — and keep the total under $100.

Surprisingly, ChatGPT delivered. Not only did it find budget-friendly workout gear I probably would have overlooked myself, but it also helped balance practicality, versatility and cost in a way that felt genuinely useful instead of just “cheap.” By the end of the experiment, I had a surprisingly solid beginner home gym setup without blowing my budget.

Generating the right prompt to tackle my money-saving mission

I knew this prompt had to be extremely specific. My budget was tight, I wanted equipment that targeted cardio, core work and mobility training, and I needed every purchase to deliver the maximum possible workout value.

So instead of asking ChatGPT something vague like “build me a home gym,” I asked it to think like an expert budget fitness coach and create the cheapest possible full-body setup using only Walmart products with a strict $100 limit.

I told the AI to prioritize:

• Full-body training
• Compact apartment-friendly gear
• Versatility over gimmicks
• Strength, cardio and recovery equipment
• The best fitness value per dollar

I also asked it to rank the most essential purchases, suggest alternatives if something went over budget and even create a beginner-friendly weekly workout plan using only the equipment it selected.

The result was surprisingly impressive — ChatGPT built a genuinely practical home gym setup that stayed under budget and felt far more thoughtful than randomly filling an online shopping cart myself.

Sweating it out as cheaply as possible

ChatGPT began the overview of its Walmart workout gear selection with what workout pros usually recommend for anyone who wants to get fit while remaining cost-effective:

For beginners to intermediate lifters, adjustable resistance + adjustable weights beats buying random specialty gear every time. Experts consistently recommend resistance bands and adjustable dumbbells as the best budget foundation because they train nearly every muscle group while taking up almost no space.

The chatbot also ranked the most to least essential home workout items I should keep in mind when making my final purchase:

• Adjustable dumbbell set
• Resistance bands
• Home gym kit (jump rope + ab wheel + push-up bars)
• Stretch strap
• Fabric glute bands

The carefully optimized shopping list from Walmart that ChatGPT put together included three top-quality products that I chose in an instant:

• Athletic Works 40lb Adjustable Cast Iron Dumbbell Set — $38.00
• Athletic Works Home Gym Kit — $19.97
• Athletic Works Recovery Stretch Strap — $10.97

With those three items, I stayed well within my $100 limit by coming out with a total of $68.94. And with this setup, ChatGPT laid out everything it’s supposed to give me on a basic workout level:

• Real strength progression
• Cardio
• Core work
• Mobility/recovery
• Full-body training
• Apartment-friendly storage

The takeaway

Saving my wallet, taking care of my physical stature and staying in the comfort of my own home while I sweat it out turned out to be a simple mission thanks to the assistance of ChatGPT and the Walmart app that allowed for quick and easy searching/purchasing from within the chatbot itself.

ChatGPT’s vast array of apps that cover safe purchases for event tickets, groceries, hotels and more are part of the reason why it’s worth checking them from within the chatbot itself to see the best (and cheapest) recommendations it can find.

Walmart is taking on Google at its own game with the company's take on Google TV streaming devices. After leaks, the devices might be coming out now.

Two weeks ago, a Redditor revealed patent-style drawings of an alleged Walmart Google TV Streamer lookalike. This week, a different Reddit user may have found a new version of Walmart's Onn Google TV streaming stick in the wild.

Reddit user u/JustLook361 spotted the streaming device at their local Walmart. In a comment, they said it was mixed in with other streaming sticks, indicating it may have been shelved accidentally.

Based on the packaging, the new streaming stick appears to support 4K streaming and features a built-in HDMI plug. The box advertises "Google TV with Gemini" and 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and a new quad-core chipset.

I was not able to find the new stick on the Walmart website. However, the side Android TV Guide has a specs sheet which appears to match the box.

The box has an HDMI extender, a voice remote with included AAA batteries and a wall adapter.

The hardware wasn't taken out of the box (but the Reddit user promised a video was coming). They said Walmart sold them the device for $30.

All in all, it appears to be a quality Chromecast replacement, especially as Google has abandoned that form factor.

The Redditor promised an unboxing video today, if they actually provide one we'll update this article with the video.

What's the deal?

According to 9to5Google, Walmart can be erratic with its releases. As an example, the 4K dongle appeared in stores in mid-April 2023 and online two weeks later. However, it wasn't officially announced until mid-May.

The new device fits in with other Onn streaming devices that sell from $25 to $40. All of those devices are out of stock on the Walmart website, suggesting that new products could drop soon.

Who knows, in a couple of weeks, we could start seeing more of these devices and an official announcement.

Three companies in particular stand out among this recent trend: Walmart, Coca-Cola, and Adobe. Here is what led Walmart CEO Douglas McMillon, Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen to step away from their roles and how their decisions to do so were influenced by AI.

Riding AI’s next wave

During an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box, former Walmart CEO Douglas McMillon explained the reason behind his recent departure. After holding the role since 2014, he decided to hand over the reins to John Furner, who left his position as head of Walmart U.S. to step up to the CEO role. Furner has been the CEO of Walmart since February 1.

McMillon spoke about the major transformations brought about by AI and how it was time for someone new to confront them for his company. “With what’s happening with AI, I could start this next big set of transformations with AI, but I couldn’t finish,” McMillon said to CNBC. “About a year ago, I really started feeling like this next run, you could see what agentic commerce was going to look like, the vision for AI shopping, and I started thinking about everything that needs to happen over the next few years, and it really caused me to think that now was the right time [to step down].”

Outgoing Coca-Cola CEO James Quincy also made a recent appearance on CNBC’s Squawk Box and delved into his reasoning for stepping down at the end of this month and passing the torch to COO Henrique Braun.

“In a pre-AI, a pre-gen-AI mode, we made a lot of progress,” he stated. “But now there’s a huge new shift coming along.” Quincy supports his company’s foray into major technological advancements and supports putting someone in place who is well-equipped to handle those massive changes. “My job is also to think who’s the best team to put on the field to get the next wave done,” Quincey stated. “And I concluded that, actually, it was time to put someone else on the field for the next wave of growth.” Quincy has held the role of CEO of Coca-Cola since 2017.

Shaping the next era of creativity

Other companies, like Adobe, are looking ahead to a future where the company can compete with generative AI software through its own AI products, such as Firefly. In a memo to the rest of the company, former Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen recognized the rising presence of AI and how Adobe will rise to the occasion to stay in tune with its evolution.

“The next era of creativity is being written right now — shaped by AI, by new workflows and by entirely new forms of expression, “ he said. “Adobe has never waited for the future to arrive. We’ve anticipated it. We’ve built it. And we’ve led it. What gives me the greatest confidence isn’t just our technology — it’s our people. Your ingenuity, resilience and commitment to customers are what will define this moment.”

Narayen has been CEO of Adobe since 2007, but recently announced his plans to leave the position in a move that some say is due to investor uncertainty over the company’s ability to compete in a creative software sector filled with AI.

The takeaway

Walmart has already implemented AI tools to assist with real-time translation and task management, while Coca-Cola has — mostly unsuccessfully — used them to generate ads. Meanwhile, Adobe has created Firefly, a suite of generative AI models used for creating images and videos. With these three companies and surely more to come, it’s interesting to consider how AI will have a major impact on the companies we interact with on a daily basis.

Walmart may be developing a series of new Google TV-based devices, including a lookalike set top box and TVs powered by Google's streaming platform.

Prototype drawings were revealed by a semi-anonymous account on Reddit (spotted by 9to5Google). The device they showed appears to be a second-generation version of Walmart's Onn 4K Pro set top box, which looks a lot like the Google TV Streamer box.

Based on the drawings, the box appears to feature a USB-C, USB-A, HDMI and Ethernet ports as well as a reset button and a microphone mute button. Instead of the squarer Apple TV-esque design of the onn 4K streaming box, it appears to be a wider, lower-profile design.

It's not clear where the account sourced the images, but from browsing their posting history, they do have a history of sharing Google TV details and seem to be fairly accurate.

Google TVs

In a comment on the streaming box post, and in a separate post, they also claimed that Walmart's Onn brand will be getting several different Google TV sets based on Bluetooth qualification listings. Simply, these will be Onn-branded televisions that run the Google TV platform.

Based on the listings it appears there will be 55-, 65- and 75-inch versions. There are also two different sets of product codes suggesting a standard version and possibly a higher-end version.

The TVs will be made by a company called KTC which makes its own gaming monitors and acts as an ODM for brands, meaning it designs and builds devices that other companies can put their branding on. It's a surprise since Walmart acquired Vizio in 2024, which offers its own TVs and operating system.

As we reported in January, Onn and Vizio were responsible for 5% of global TV sales in 2025 with Counterpoint Research calling Walmart "Samsung's strongest competitor in North America.”

Mostly that's because Onn devices are marketed squarely at "impulse buyers" with low prices. It's largest 85-inch models sell for $600 compared to Samsung versions that are in the $1,000 and up range.

The rumored streaming box and new Google TVs are another play at affordable devices that should work just fine.

In a time where we’re all feeling the pinch, dirt cheap tech is becoming the main way to treat ourselves, and the $20 wearIQ bluetooth glasses really give an experience that feels more than its price tag.

I didn’t expect to be writing those words. Instead, I was ready to dunk on them hard. But with a better microphone than I expected, decent speakers and a shockingly good battery life, these feel like just the right amount of smarts for most folks reading this.

So to put them through the wringer, I ditched my Ray-Ban Metas and daily drove the wearIQs for a month. On paper, this should be a mismatch. And full transparency: it absolutely is (very much like comparing apples and oranges).

But switching to them showed me you can actually get a pretty impressive pair of specs for $20, and made me question whether there’s such a thing as smart glasses getting too smart.

Can you actually call them “smart?”

Of course, it’s worth me noting what these actually are. They’re called “smart glasses,” but…well…they’re not. Think of them like a pair of bluetooth headphones with the tech packed into a pair of specs.

There’s no smart stuff in the glasses like some of the local AI capabilities you’ve got on your Ray-Ban Metas — all the smarts are completely dependent on that phone in your pocket.

That’s not to say that’s a bad thing (and I’ll go into that later), but your mileage will vary based on the smart assistant. On an Android phone? Great, you’ve got Gemini at your fingertips.

For iPhones, you’re stuck with Siri, which will be getting better soon through the sheer force of $1 billion per year to use Google’s Gemini, but your functionality is definitely going to be simpler for now.

The corner cut

And then that’s when I get into the one place where you can really feel that $20 price — the speaker quality. To wearIQ’s credit, I wasn’t expecting “great” or “good.” With managed expectations, I can safely say that the sound is “fine.”

Kudos to the team, the speakers here do have decent sound definition and clarity, and the volume is enough to hear phone calls on busy streets without distortion.

But with literally zero bass, don’t expect an auditory journey through your favorite albums. Keep your earbuds with you for that, and use these specifically for calls and a back and forth with your AI.

Feels like more than $20

With those early takes out the way, I got into actually using them and you know what? They’re better than I expected. With a huge variety of styles to pick from, there’s an aesthetic to match anyone, and without the obvious camera up front, people don’t do a double take thinking you’re spying on them.

Then comes the on-board microphone. When my mom called me, I was fearing the worst — a basic mic experience that is quickly washed out by surrounding noise (and yes, I did the dreaded running the kitchen tap test on it too).

But the wearIQs really held their own throughout most of my tests, and only really broke down when walking facefirst into gusty/windy conditions (the same point that I became impossible to hear on my Ray-Bans).

And finally, battery life has become a bit of a running joke for smart glasses. If you look at a pair funny, they do have a tendency of dropping to zero real quick. But what may be these “smart” glasses’ weakness (not actually being smart) may be one of its greatest strengths too, because these last long.

Taking a pair to CES 2026 and casually using them as I would any glasses (couple phone calls, some asks to set reminders and take quick notes), I got through two whole days before being warned about the low battery.

Just the right (cheap) middle ground?

My time with these glasses got me thinking about the whole idea of smart glasses. As the guy who regularly looks a little silly wearing AR and AI specs on this website, I’m very much on the lookout for that moment that I can say “the future is here.”

That moment where smart glasses are fully capable standalone devices while also being small and sleek enough to look like a normal pair of spectacles. Spoiler alert: we’re getting there, but the more technologically advanced pairs look a little silly on your face.

But…do you care? In the here and now, is the vision of glasses replacing your phone actually something the people want? Or are we all happy staying at the stage of not giving up our phones and just having something dirt cheap that is linked to it?

I’m thinking the answer is probably a resounding “yes,” but I’d love to know your thoughts in the poll below.

Outlook

My own existential crisis about smart glasses aside, let’s wrap this up. There are things about the wearIQ glasses that I can pick apart in comparison to the Ray-Ban Metas I swapped them for. But all of that melts away when you remember they’re $20.

All the styles you can pick from, the decent sound quality for calls, the strong microphones and that impressive battery life — all for the same price as a fajita at Chili’s. In a time when we both want to treat ourselves, but are really feeling the pinch, the wearIQs are a winner.

Although it's a year old and now outclassed by the newer LG C5, the LG C4 remains a solid value OLED with tons of flair. It's built with incredible upscaling chops and a wide array of features that make it excellent for film buffs and gamers.

With Dolby Vision support, you get the best possible visuals and a picture that remains closest to the director's intent. With the C4's excellent color coverage in HDR tested in our labs, Dolby Vision content will look stunning.

Much like the LG C5, the C4 is still one of the best gaming TVs. It offers a fleshed-out gaming hub that makes it easy to adjust settings on the fly and dive into cloud gaming services, including Xbox Game Pass. LG will also keep webOS up-to-date for a five-year span. That means the C4 OLED will maintain software improvements until 2029, so it feels fresh and advanced. It's a smart pick if you want an OLED TV without the hefty price tag.

It's official: Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over. Most of the best deals came and went, and as we inch closer to the holidays, it will get tougher to find steep discounts on the year's best TVs. This is where I come in.

We’re just a couple of days away from Black Friday, but I may have just stumbled upon the best TV deal of the week. Right now, you can get the 55-inch LG B4 for just $798 at Walmart. It’s the lowest price this set has ever been, but stock is bound to run out sooner than later.

Why do I expect this TV to sell out soon? The LG B4 is a 2024 release, so it was already seeing some serious discounts heading into Black Friday. Once stock runs out, you won't see a deal like this again.

If you're hesitant about buying a 2024 model, don't worry: The B4 is every bit as good today as it was when it debuted last year. Here's what you need to know about it.

The LG B4 is a fantastic, value-packed OLED and, as you’ll come to learn, the newer version of this TV — the LG B5 — isn’t much of an upgrade. Like all OLEDs, the LG B4's pixels are self-lit, an advantage that allows for perfect black levels and pixel-level dimming.

It's one of the reasons why its relatively affordable, entry-level status shouldn't deter you from considering it. The B4 might not be bright as comparably priced LED TVs, but these highlights appear brighter on account of the high-contrast nature of OLED displays.

As far as features go, the B4 offers many of the same bells and whistles as its higher-end counterparts, too. That's good news for anyone, but especially dedicated gamers.

It supports 4K gaming at 120Hz, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), AMD FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility. All of its inputs are HDMI 2.1-compatible.

Yes, there's a newer version of this TV in the LG B5, but it isn't much of an upgrade. In my LG B4 vs B5 face-off, I compared their performance and features and found that they're almost the exact same TV.

With two days to go until Black Friday, I'm ready to call this one of the best OLED TV deals of the season. If I had to guess, I'd say that the 55-inch B4 runs out of stock before it gets yet another price cut. Don't sleep on it.

I’ve been covering Black Friday for eight years and testing laptops for the past decade. And in all my time doing this, I never thought I’d be able to say the following words: you can buy a Chromebook for $49.

Normally, the holy grail writers like me look for is the $99 Chromebook. Well, consider my mind blown. Right now, the Dell Chromebook 3120 is just $49 at Walmart. If you just need something cheap for the basics, there’s no better deal available right now on a refurbished laptop.

Taking me back to my netbook days, this 11-inch Chromebook is every bit of what I appreciated of the tiny laptops of old — a simple, super cheap clamshell system with basic performance to get stuff done and keep yourself entertained while taking up next-to-no backpack space.

Of course, this isn’t going to be for everyone. At such a low price, don’t expect to do anything more than browse the web, watch videos and write documents. With a HD display, Intel Celeron chip, 4GB RAM and a 16GB SSD, you’re definitely not going to set the world on fire with this configuration.

But if these are your only use cases, and you just need something super low cost to tide you over, there’s far worse ways to spend 50 bucks. This is a solid Grade A refurbished device with a durable build quality to withstand knocks, and even some connectivity to plug into other peripherals too.

As a TV expert and an all-around appreciator of picture quality, it pains a part of me to make this recommendation. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my decade-plus of covering the TV industry, it’s that ultra-cheap TVs fill a niche — especially around the holidays.

That’s why I’m temporarily setting aside my nitpicky nature and letting you know that there’s a 50-inch Vizio 4K TV for $128 at Walmart right now. That’s right: It’s a 50-inch TV for roughly the cost of a nice pair of sunglasses or a few trips to the gas station.

Look, I’ll be honest here: I think there are slightly pricier TVs that will likely last longer than this Vizio and look much better in the process, and I’ll definitely mention them below. That said, I understand the appeal of a TV that has a screen, a handful of smart features and a sub-$150 price tag. To that end, here’s everything I can tell you about this model (which I guess is called the V4K50S-08).

First off, I’ve decided that I do not enjoy writing V4K50S-08, so from here on out, let’s just call it “the Vizio TV.”

The Vizio TV is a barebones, 4K LED TV that supports a bunch of HDR formats, for some reason. I say “for some reason” because, despite having never seen it in my life, I can tell you that there’s no way that the Vizio TV gets bright or colorful enough for HDR to be as impactful as it can (and ought to) be.

Essentially, as a bottom-of-the-barrel set with low-end display hardware, the Vizio TV’s HDR support may as well be in name only. Let’s put it this way: For $128, I’m more excited by the fact that this TV sports a 4K display than I am to have Dolby Vision or HDR10 support. At 50 inches, I would notice the benefits of 4K resolution, but with a display this cheap, I wouldn’t notice the benefits of HDR.

This could be OK, however, if you’re just furnishing a guest room or a dorm with something that can stream Netflix. The Vizio TV does offer Netflix — and most of the other popular streaming apps, too. (You might want to double-check that your favorite apps are supported before you buy, though.)

I promised that I’d share a recommendation for a TV I’d buy instead of this one, so here goes: Right now, the 55-inch TCL QM5K is just $329 at Best Buy. It’s an early Black Friday TV deal that just went live this morning, and I think it’s worth a look.

Yes, the QM5K is $200 more than the Vizio TV at the 55-inch size point. That’s a lot of money, so I’d understand it if you just want to save as much as possible on the Vizio TV. The QM5K’s Mini-LED backlighting is about as rudimentary as Mini-LED backlighting gets, but trust me: it’s much better than the display you’re getting with the Vizio TV.

We’re still a few weeks away from the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season, but major retailers are already rolling out deep discounts on everything from lifestyle TVs to OLEDs. A good case in point is Walmart, whose Black Friday sale just went live.

As an eleven-year veteran of the TV industry, I’ve reviewed countless TVs and covered my fair share of Black Fridays. Trust me: There are plenty of TVs on sale at Walmart that are absolutely not worth your money. But these aren’t those TVs.

I expect more QLED, OLED and Mini-LED TVs to go on sale at Walmart between now and Black Friday. If you can’t wait until then, these are my top picks right now.

Top early Black Friday TV deals at Walmart

LG B4

Right now, the 55-inch LG B4 is on sale at Walmart for its lowest price ever, and I'm not convinced that stock will last all the way until Black Friday weekend.

The B4 is a 2024 release, with the LG B5 being the newer version for 2025. However, you really shouldn't let that get in your way if you think this deal is right for you. In my LG B4 vs B5 match up, I compared these TVs' performance and found that they are nearly identical. And, like the B5, the B4 offers many of the same features you'll find in higher-end OLED TVs from LG.

As mentioned, I really don't expect stock to last on this TV, nor do I expect it to get much cheaper between now and Black Friday.

Samsung The Frame

If you’re the type of person who cares a bit more about the vibe of your living space than owning cutting-edge TV technology, Walmart is showcasing a couple of TV deals you might want to pay attention to. The Frame — Samsung’s super-popular lifestyle TV — is bound to be one of the most-shopped TV deals at Walmart this year.

What sets The Frame apart from most TVs is its design. As the name implies, it features the familiar look of a framed portrait, complete with a soft, matte finish on the screen. When not in use, The Frame can show off works of art, blending into your space until the next time you want to watch TV.

The Frame features a pleasing presentation, but when it comes to picture quality, its display hardware doesn’t allow for much pizzazz. The Frame is for folks who focus on the flow of a room.

Hisense Canvas TV

If the 55-inch, Samsung-branded lifestyle TV isn’t your speed, but your interest is nevertheless piqued by its approach, consider the Hisense Cansas TV. Walmart just nicked about $110 off the price of the 65-inch version.

Like The Frame, this TV features an art gallery chic design with a customizable frame. And, just like its Samsung rival, the Hisense Canvas TV is rocking a matte finish that fights glare and adds to the portrait look.

While I wouldn’t be surprised to see Walmart slash this TV’s price even further come Black Friday, I don’t expect it to fall much further than this. (It’s an especially good pick for people who prefer Google TV over Samsung’s own Tizen-based smart platform.)

LG C5

The LG C5 is one of the best TVs of the year, and easily one of the most value-packed OLED TVs that will be available this holiday shopping season. If you can't wait a few more weeks for last-minute sales, this discount at Walmart is absolutely worth your attention.

The C5 is one of the most versatile TVs of the year. Everything from games to HDR Blu-rays look phenomenal on this TV, and it's stuffed with just as many features as you'll find on much pricier, flagship models.

The fact that Walmart is pricing the 55-inch version of the C5 below $1,200 ahead of Black Friday tells me there's a good chance this version of the C5 won't fall much further between now and then.

TCL QM8K

If you’re looking to upgrade to a bigger, brighter TV, there’s a diamond in the rough in Walmart’s Black Friday sale, buried beneath heaps of ultra-cheap Vizio TVs. I’m talking about the 75-inch TCL QM8K — one of the brightest Mini-LED TVs we tested this year.

You can read all about it in our full TCL QM8K review, but here’s the gist: This TV features an incredibly bright display, which makes it an excellent choice for people who watch a lot of TV during the day. It’s also packed with useful features for gaming and streaming, including a pair of HDMI 2.1 inputs and Dolby Vision support.

The 75-inch version of the QM8K doesn’t go on sale very often, and this is right around the lowest I’ve seen its price since I started keeping tabs on it. Check it out if you need a big-screen set that brings the brightness.

As a professional “guy who helps people buy TVs,” this time of the year is always exciting. After all, when else do I get to tell people that there’s a 55-inch LG OLED on sale for under $800?

That previous statement is true, by the way. In fact, many of the most affordable OLED TVs on the market are seeing early discounts ahead of the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season.

Top early Black Friday OLED TV deals

LG B5

The 48-inch LG B5 is the smallest screen on this list, but if you're in the market for a TV in the 48- to 50-inch size range, there are few that meet the performance and value level of LG's entry-level OLED for 2025.

As an entry-level set, this TV isn't as bright or as colorful as higher-end OLED TVs, but it nevertheless delivers the benefits we love about OLED display technology: perfect black levels, razor-sharp clarity and pixel-level dimming.

The 48-inch B5 is also one of the year's best gaming TVs at this relatively uncommon size point, thanks to a full slate of four HDMI 2.1 ports that all support 4K gaming at 120Hz.

The 48-inch version of the B5 is a Best Buy-exclusive, and while this isn't its lowest price to date, I don't expect this price to fall much further once Black Friday actually rolls around.

LG B4

Is the 48-inch B5 is too small for your home? Looking for an OLED TV that's a little bit bigger? Consider the 55-inch LG B4. Right now, it's on sale at Walmart for its lowest price ever, and I'm not convinced that stock will last all the way until Black Friday weekend.

Let's get one thing out of the way: Yes, the B4 is a 2024 release, with the aforementioned B5 being the newer version for 2025. However, you really shouldn't let that get in your way if you think this deal is right for you.

In my LG B4 vs B5 match up, I compared these TVs' performance and found that they are nearly identical. And, like the B5, the B4 offers many of the same bells and whistles as its higher-end counterparts, too.

LG C4

If this year's mid-range OLED TVs are a touch too expensive, why not do the savvy thing and save even more money on a TV from last year?

The LG C4 is almost every bit as impressive as the newer LG C5, but you can save a couple hundred bucks on the former since it made its debut in 2024.

As with the C5, you're getting a class-leading set of gaming features with the C4. There are four HDMI 2.1 inputs, support for VRR and AMD FreeSync Premium, as well as G-Sync compatibility. Unlike Samsung OLEDs, the LG C4 comes with Dolby Vision support in tow.

Don't be frightened by the C4's 2024 birthday. It's still every bit as good as it was when it first hit shelves.

Samsung S90F

Now that we've got the entry-level OLEDs out of the way, let's jump up to the mid-range models. If you're interested in an OLED with slightly better specs than the LG B4 and B5, take a look at one of Samsung's more affordable OLED TVs of 2025: the S90F.

According to our tests, the S90F offers much better HDR highlight brightness than what you'll get on the LG B4 and B5, which will add a sense of depth during movies and shows mastered for HDR. (You can read more about these metrics in our Samsung S90F review.)

The S90F also comes with a thorough selection of gaming-related features, including support for 4K gaming at 120Hz. One feature that the S90F doesn't come with, though, is Dolby Vision support. This HDR format is only available on OLED TVs from competing brands.

LG G5

The G5 is LG's top OLED for 2025, and there's never been a better time to splash out on what I believe to be one of the best TVs I've ever seen.

The G5 taps LG's fourth-generation OLED panel, whose structure allows for better brightness and color volume than what you'll see on lower-end models like the C5 and the B5. In fact, the LG G5 is one of the brightest OLEDs we've ever measured, which truly has a sizable impact on cinematic content.

Like the C5, the G5 comes with a full toolbox of gaming-related features. When you factor in this TV's incredible picture quality, you end up with the best high-end gaming TV on the market.

One word of caution: The G5 is intended to be wall-mounted, so it doesn't include a stand in the box.

Sony A95L

The Sony A95L is a few years old, but its pedigree and success is one of the reasons it remains on shelves in 2025.

This OLED blends high-performance hardware and Sony's expert engineering. These key elements help make the A95L one of the best OLED TVs you can buy, even to this day.

With quantum dots in tow, the A95L delivers better color volume than typical OLED panels. Behind the scenes, Sony’s renowned picture processing ensures that everything looks as it should — from upscaled content to near-black detail.

There's a slight chance that, between now and the end of Cyber Monday, the 65-inch Sony A95L could tumble further in price. However, given the fact that it's already been available for a few years, I don't expect its price to drop much more between now and then.

LG C5

The LG C5 is one of the best TVs of the year, and easily one of the most value-packed OLED TVs that will be available this holiday shopping season. Full disclosure: I expect this 77-inch OLED's price to fall further once Black Friday kicks into gear, but its current sale price is already phenomenal. If you can't wait, grab it now.

The C5 is one of the most versatile TVs of the year. Everything from games to HDR Blu-rays look phenomenal on this TV, and it's stuffed with just as many features as you'll find on much pricier, flagship models.

From a performance standpoint, it's on par with the previously mentioned S90F, though it doesn't come with quantum dot-color. That said, one benefit the C5 has over the S90F is its Dolby Vision support.

Folks shopping for a 65-inch OLED ought to know that the 65-inch LG C5 is currently listed at $1,397 at Amazon, but this price will also almost certainly drop again come Black Friday.
