Not only is the Samsung S95H one of the best OLED TVs of the year, it's one of the best TVs I've ever seen, period. It recently earned our rare five-star rating on account of its incredible picture quality and its laundry list of features, but its price is steep and its metal-frame design won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Sitting beneath the S95H in the TV-maker's OLED TV lineup is the Samsung S90H. This mid-range OLED isn't as bright or as colorful as the S95H, but it offers many of the same features for a significantly lower price.

If you're in the market for an OLED TV this year — especially a Samsung-branded OLED — both of these TVs will surely make your short list of candidates. That's where I come in. I've got over a decade of TV-testing experience and I'm quite familiar with both models. Here's how the Samsung S95H and S90H OLED TVs compare — from performance to features and price.

Samsung S95H vs S90H: Specs compared

Despite their difference in price, the S95H and S90H are quite similar on paper. Like all Samsung TVs, neither set supports Dolby Vision, one of the most popular, enhanced HDR formats.

These OLEDs are among the first Samsung TVs to support HDR10+ Advanced, an all-new, royalty-free Dolby Vision alternative. HDR10+ Advanced is meant to compete with Dolby Vision 2, the newest version of Dolby Vision HDR, but content for both is still scarce.

One major difference has to do with size availability. The S90H comes in two smaller screen sizes: 42 and 48 inches. And, while it won't make a difference to the average viewer, it's worth noting that the S95H supports an optional, external One Connect Box that unlocks four additional HDMI ports.

Samsung S95H vs S90H: Design

The Samsung S95H's design is quite divisive, as it's unlike anything else on the market. As you can see in the photo above, the S95H features an eye-catching, metallic frame, and it can't be detached from the screen itself. The brushed-metal material plays the part of a premium design flourish, but based on conversations I've had with readers, you'll either love it or hate it.

I don't mind the look of the S95H's frame when the TV is mounted on a wall, as the entire point is to emphasize the picture, similar to a portrait's frame. That said, the frame draws more attention to itself when the S95H is set up on a media console.

The S90H, on the other hand does not come with a big metal frame. Its OLED screen sits atop a pedestal-style stand. It's sturdy enough to minimize wobble, but some people might prefer the approach of the S95H's setup, which trades a pedestal-style stand for a pair of L-shaped feet.

Last year, Samsung's flagship OLED was the only OLED TV in the brand's lineup to feature Samsung's Glare Free display. This year, the Glare Free display has made its way to the mid-range S90H.

This matte-style finish is the best in the business at eliminating direct glare, but there's a catch: During daytime viewing (or in well-lit rooms), the Glare Free display scatters light in such a way that black levels on the S95H and S90H appear purplish-gray instead of deep, inky black. This would not be the case with a glossy-style screen.

Both TVs ship with Samsung's Solar Cell remote control, which automatically charges its lithium-ion battery via indoor/outdoor light. This convenient feature saves on the waste that comes with disposable batteries, but the Solar Cell remote's lack of an input button is a bit inconvenient.

There's no denying that the S95H features a more luxurious look and feel. But the S90H's design is far less divisive.

Samsung S95H vs S90H: Performance

Before we dive into which of these TVs is the better performer, let's compare their test results. (Both TVs were set to Samsung's Filmmaker picture mode when these tests were taken.)

Both TVs deliver the performance-related benefits that we've come to expect from OLED TVs: perfect black levels, pixel-level dimming and ultra-accommodating viewing angles. Because of these benefits, pretty much everything look superb on both the S95H and S90H.

However, compared to the S90H, the S95H offers a superior picture. The differences come down to two key areas of performance: brightness and color.

Almost every size in the S95H leverages Samsung Display's quantum dot-enhanced OLED technology (also known as QD-OLED). Samsung's mid-range S90 series featured a QD-OLED display last year, but this year, every size in the S90H series makes use of a standard WOLED display.

There are many differences between QD-OLED and WOLED, but for our purposes, here's what you need to know: The S95H offers better HDR brightness and color volume than what you'll see on WOLED-equipped OLED TVs like the S90H.

As you can see from our test results, the S95H is capable of pumping nearly twice the level of brightness to HDR highlights than the S90H. During HDR movies, shows and games, highlights — like the sharp reflection of sunlight off the hood of a car — are appear much brighter on the S95H.

This added highlight brightness adds tremendously to the S95H's ability to create visual depth. It also allows for better detail around said highlights.

But the primary benefit of the S95H's quantum dots can be seen in its color volume. Thanks to Samsung Display's enhanced OLED display, it covers 89% - 90% of the BT.2020 color space (compared to about 78% on the S90H).

The added range of colors makes for a more color-rich viewing experience on the S95H, particularly during cinematic, HDR content. Bold, bright primary colors are punchier, but the S95H is particularly good at rendering accurate skin tones and low-luminance colors like dark blue.

Despite its shortcomings when compared to the S95H, the Samsung S90H is nevertheless a sensational TV. Its roughly 1,500 nits of HDR highlight brightness is more than enough for an eye-popping, cinematic picture. It's an OLED TV, after all, so it's not saddled with light bloom and haloing around bright objects.

I'm willing to bet that nearly everyone who spends time with the S90H will walk away impressed with its accurate, OLED-driven performance. The S95H is just brighter, more colorful and guided by more-advanced processing. In a side-by-side comparison, the S95H's advantages really shine.

Samsung S95H vs S90H: Smart platform and features

Both the S95H and the S90H are built around a newly refreshed version of Samsung's Tizen-based smart platform, Smart Hub. This version is similar to what we saw across the brand's 2025 lineup, but there are some subtle changes to the user interface that improve the overall experience. For instance, new this year is a menu bar at the top of the screen that provides quick access to important settings.

I suspect that most people that choose to rely on Smart Hub as their daily streaming platform will find it decent enough. Navigation and load times are similar across both TVs.

When it comes to additional features and enhancements, these TVs are nearly identical. Both sets support 4K/120Hz gaming (the highest 4K spec on current-gen consoles), and with a gaming PC linked up, both OLEDs can support 4K titles at up to 165Hz.

Winner: Draw

Samsung S95H vs S90H: Verdict

The Samsung S95H is an astonishing TV. Its quantum-dot color is nearly unmatched among OLED TVs, and it's also one of the brightest OLEDs you can buy right now. This makes it a safer bet than the S90H for brighter-than-average rooms, all while creating a truly impressive sense of visual depth.

But all of this performance upside comes at a steep cost. Right now, the 65-inch Samsung S95H is $2,999 at Best Buy, which is prohibitively pricey for the average consumer — even those willing to spend over a thousand bucks on an impressive, new TV.

This is the primary reason why I recommend the Samsung S90H over its flagship-level sibling. The 65-inch S90H is currently $1,799 at Best Buy, and while it's not as bright and colorful as the S95H, you're still getting a near-identical set of features for gaming and streaming. In addition, the S90H's frame-free design is a safer bet for the average shopper.

I won't tell you that the S95H's sensational performance isn't worthy of the S95H's added cost. For home theater enthusiasts who've been saving up for a life-changing TV, the S95H is probably worth its price.

The S90H has far greater appeal for most people shopping for a higher-end TV. I suspect it'll be the more popular model in 2026.

Value Electronics — an esteemed, US-based A/V retailer — held its annual TV Shootout last week, pitting many of the year’s best TVs against one another in a series of tests designed to measure picture quality. OLED TVs competed in their own contest, which included the Samsung S95H, the Sony Bravia 8 II and the LG G6.

Despite some tough competition, Samsung’s flagship OLED took home the crown, besting LG and Sony’s top OLED models across several performance categories. Having seen all of the competing OLEDs, I’m not surprised by the results; the S95H received our coveted five-star rating on account of its gobsmackingly gorgeous picture.

There’s just one problem: The Samsung S95H carries a sticker price that’ll make you stumble towards the nearest fainting couch. King of OLED TVs? Sure, I can buy that. But I won’t be able to afford the S95H itself anytime soon. Fortunately, there’s a mid-range OLED waiting in the wings with a lower price and wider appeal: the LG C6.

The LG C6 vs Samsung S95H: by the numbers

The fine folks at Value Electronics put the year’s top OLEDs through a series of tests that measured in-depth performance metrics like shadow detail, low-luminance color saturation, skin tone accuracy and more.

It’s worth mentioning that Value Electronics’ TV Shootout is operated and aimed at A/V specialists, home theater enthusiasts and all-around hobbyists. As a result, their tests (the results of which can be perused at eCoustics) dive deeper in the finer details of these displays’ capabilities.

Despite the fact that LG’s mid-range C6 OLED didn’t compete at Value Electronics’ TV Shootout, we’ve conducted our own tests on the C6 and the Samsung S95H. Here’s how they stack up:

Both of these sets deliver the performance benefits that OLED TVs are known for: perfect black levels and pixel-level dimming. As a result, pretty much everything looks terrific on both TVs.

In addition to some higher-end features and components, the S95H's secret sauce is its quantum dot-enhanced OLED display. This is the reason its color volume is so impressive compared to the LG C6, and a big reason why its HDR highlight brightness is nearly double.

Samsung's picture processing at the flagship level can't be ignored, either. Value Electronics' methodology is designed to put a microscope on the small stuff, like how smoothly color gradients transition from one shade to another, or how effective a TV is at displaying dark, hard-to-render colors.

I can't sit here and tell you that the LG C6 is a better-performing TV than the S95H. The difference in a side-by-side comparison would be undeniable. But for most viewers, the LG C6 is about 80% as impressive-looking as the S95H, and the gulf in price is much more significant.

The C6's 1,300+ nits of HDR highlight brightness is plenty good for most viewing environments. More importantly, the self-emissive nature of OLED means that the C6 gets more out of its highlight brightness than an LCD/LED TV with similar brightness. It's one of the reasons why there's a much smaller perceivable performance gap between mid-range and flagship-level OLEDs when compared to LCD lineups.

The C6 is also equipped with nearly every streaming- and gaming-related feature you'll find on the S95H. Plus, if you're a home theater completionist, you'll appreciate the C6's inclusion of Dolby Vision support — something you won't find on any Samsung TV.

You might also find that the C6's traditional design is better suited for your living space. The S95H features a divisive metal frame that can't be removed. It looks more natural when the S95H is wall-mounted, but when it's on a table, I find it to be more than a little distracting.

As a TV expert, you won't catch me claiming that the S95H isn't as impressive as the C6, or even that the S95H isn't worthy of Value Electronics' crown. But for most people, it's a much more sensible option, and I'm willing to bet that it'll be the more popular choice in 2026.

Many of the year's top-performing TVs aren't worth buying when they first hit store shelves, and it all comes down to price. We appreciate eye-popping picture quality and an overflowing set of features as much as the next group of TV-testers, but premium TVs tend to cost a pretty penny within the first few months that they're available.

Take the LG C6, for instance. When we tested LG's latest mid-range OLED TV back in April, we were thoroughly impressed — except when it came to the C6's price. In the review, my colleague Dylan Haas recommended that folks wait until the C6 saw some mid-year discounts.

Well, the discounts have arrived. Right now, you can get the 65-inch LG C6 for just $1,799 at Amazon. That's a full $900 off its original price, and a steep-enough discount that I'm ready to recommend the C6 over its still-available predecessor, the LG C5.

You can scope out Dylan's full LG C6 review to get the complete story on this impressive OLED TV, but here's what you need to know: The C6 is a perfect fit for people who'd like a truly impressive, cinematic experience, but who'd rather not shell out for a flagship-level TV.

Until recently, I've been more inclined to recommend the older version of this TV, the LG C5. Given its cheaper price point, the C5 made more sense for most shoppers, as it's very similar to the C6 in both performance and features. However, now that the 65-inch C6 is nearly a thousand bucks cheaper than it was when it debuted, I'm ready to point people in its direction.

Like all OLED TVs, the C6 doesn't rely on a traditional backlight. Instead, all of its pixels are self-illuminating, which has a tremendously positive impact on picture quality. As a result of its lack of a backlight, the C6 can render perfect black levels and isn't saddled with distracting light bloom like many ultra-bright Mini-LED TVs.

The C6 also leads its class when it comes to gaming features. All four of its HDMI 2.1 inputs support 4K gaming at 120Hz (the highest 4K spec for current-generation consoles), as well as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and AMD FreeSync Premium.

Unlike Samsung's mid-range OLED TV (the Samsung S90H), the C6 supports Dolby Vision, one of the most popular, enhanced HDR formats across streaming platforms and physical media.

LG's proprietary streaming platform isn't my favorite (that honor goes to Roku), but webOS is reliable enough for everyday use. In other words, if you decide to forgo a dedicated streaming device, you'll be able to get by with webOS.

While I don't expect the LG C6 to fluctuate too wildly in price in the coming weeks, it's worth noting that this TV was pricier by a few hundred bucks as recently as a few days ago. Now's a great time to pounce on one of the year's best TVs.

The LG C6 is the latest in a long line of perennially popular, mid-range OLED TVs. It offers the exceptional performance we've come to expect from an LG OLED TV along with a class-leading selection of gaming- and streaming-related features.

As a Samsung-branded, mid-range OLED TV, the Samsung S90H is the C6's top rival. Its price, performance and size availability is similar to that of the C6, but its overall design is quite different.

If you're in the market for an OLED TV this year, and you're willing to spend on something above the entry-level tier, the C6 and S90H are two of the best OLED TVs to consider. Here's how they stack up when it comes to performance, design and features.

LG C6 vs Samsung S90H: specs compared

Before we dive into the rest of the specs, let's discuss size availability. The LG C6 is available in in 77- and 83-inch screen sizes, but these variants are classified as an altogether different model called the LG C6H. This means if you want a 77- or 83-inch LG C6, you'll technically have to buy the C6H.

We've not yet tested the 77- or 83-inch versions of the C6H, but LG promises better performance on these sets due to the fact that they leverage LG Display's newest RGB Tandem OLED display. This type of OLED panel allows for higher brightness and better color volume than the standard WOLED displays found on the 42- to 65-inch versions of the C6.

One of the biggest differences between these sets concerns HDR support. Like all LG OLED TVs, the C6 supports Dolby Vision, a licensed version of enhanced HDR.

The S90H does not support Dolby Vision. No Samsung TV does. Instead, it offers HDR10+, a royalty-free version of Dolby Vision that uses metadata to adjust the picture on a scene-by-scene basis, similar to Dolby Vision.

You'll still be able to watch Dolby Vision content on the S90H, and it'll certainly look great, but without Dolby Vision support, the S90H won't be optimized to replicate the creator's intent on Dolby Vision-mastered movies and shows . Neither one of these OLED TVs supports ATSC 3.0, which supports native 4K over-the-air broadcasting. However, both sets offer a full slate of four HDMI 2.1-compatible inputs, along with support for 4K gaming at 120Hz (and up to 165Hz when a PC is linked up).

It's close, but the C6's Dolby Vision support gives it an edge..

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs Samsung S90H: design

Given their performance similarities, I suspect that the design differences between the C6 and the S90H will inform many people's choice about which to buy.

The C6 (seen above) looks remarkably similar to its predecessor, the LG C5. That's not a bad thing, as both the C5 and C6 are quite sleek.

The C6's wedge-shaped stand sits below the center of the screen. The stand isn't very tall, so people with larger soundbars should make sure that their device won't obstruct the screen.

Every size in the C6 series ships with the newest version of LG's remote control. Like previous iterations, this remote features Wii-mote-like motion controls for pointing and clicking. (If you don't want to use this feature, the remote's directional pad can override the motion controls.)

Like the C6, the S90H — the back of which you can see above — also leans into the ultra-thin look that OLED TVs are typically associated with. (It doesn't, however, feature a unique, marble-like design on the back of its panel like LG's OLED.)

The C6's stand is a flat plate rather than a wedge-shaped piece, and it lifts the S90H slightly higher above its surface than the C6's stand. If your soundbar is extra tall, you might want to take a closer look at the S90H.

Samsung's Solar Cell remote control is included in the box, and while I'm annoyed at its lack of a dedicated input button, I do appreciate the fact that it charges by way of a solar panel on its back. It really cuts down on battery waste.

Unlike its predecessor (the S90F OLED), the S90H is the first mid-range Samsung OLED to feature the brand's Glare Free display. This matte-style finish is the most effective I've seen in combating direct reflections, but it it does so at a cost.

In average-to-well-lit rooms, the S90H's matte finish significantly lifts the picture's black levels. Big, bold reflections will disappear, but the light from those sources will scatter across the display. When this happens, the darker portions of the screen can appear purplish-gray and lose the deep, inky presentation that many people associate with OLED picture quality.

The C6's glossy screen isn't as adept at fighting direct glare, but it maintains the inky OLED patina in well-lit environments. With the lights off, both presentations look similar.

Depending on your living space and viewing habits, you'll likely prefer one of these designs over the other. Folks who are concerned about reflecting light ought to favor the S90H's matte-style screen, and viewers without competing light sources will likely prefer the C6's glossy screen.

LG C6 vs Samsung S90H: performance

Before we dive into which of these TVs is the better performer, let's compare their test results. (Both TVs were in their respective Filmmaker picture mode when these tests were taken.)

As much as I'd love to regale you with a multi-point breakdown of the many ways in which the performance of these rival sets diverge, the truth of the matter is that they're almost the same TV.

Both deliver the key benefits that OLEDs are known for: perfect black levels, pixel-level dimming and ultra-wide viewing angles. Given these benefits, pretty much everything looks terrific on the C6 and S90H.

The C6 is slightly brighter during SDR content (like cable TV and most TV shows), but it's close enough in this category that it almost doesn't matter. Ditto for HDR content, too — the S90H offers slightly brighter HDR performance, but in normal viewing scenarios, the difference is barely noticeable.

When it comes to color, these OLEDs are neck and neck, too: The S90H's marginally higher brightness allows for a wider range of color, but — and stop me if you've heard this one before — the difference is too subtle to matter.

The story here would've been different if Samsung had outfitted the S90H with a quantum dot-enhanced OLED display, just as last-year's S90F did. With quantum dots in tow, the S90H would likely produce a much wider range of colors. Unfortunately, with WOLED panels in play, Samsung's mid-range OLED has lost a step to LG's this year.

Nevertheless, home theater enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn that both sets are remarkably accurate in their out-of-the-box state. You won't have to shell out for a professional calibration in order to enjoy a precise picture.

Both of these TVs look fantastic. However, even in a direct, side-by-side comparison, their differences are subtle.

LG C6 vs Samsung S90H: smart platform and features

The C6's user experience is built around the latest version of LG's webOS. Dubbed webOS 26, it's a similar experience to the version we tested last year, but a handful of small changes to the interface make it a bit easier to navigate.

While I'm always in favor of software improvements, webOS still isn't my top choice for daily streaming on account of its heavy ad placement and occasional slow-down. Still, webOS will get the job done if you'd rather not deal with a separate streaming box.

Samsung's Tizen-based streaming platform, Smart Hub, has similarly seen some subtle improvements year over year. For instance, there's now a quick-access menu at the top of most of the pages on the home screen, and its convenient placement makes it easier to access often-used settings.

Unless you favor LG's software over Samsung (or vice versa), both of these user experiences are on a similar level when it comes to sponsored content and navigation speed.

And, as far as gaming features go, the similarities continue. Both TVs offer HDMI 2.1-compatibility across all four of their primary inputs, and they're equipped to make make the most out of 4K titles on current-generation consoles since they each support 4K gaming at 120Hz. With a gaming PC hooked up, you can stretch that to 4K/165Hz on both sets.

In addition, both the C6 and S90H support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and a version of AMD FreeSync Premium for smooth, tear-free gameplay.

We've already factored in the S90H's lack of Dolby Vision support, and once you set this aside, these TVs offer essentially the same set of features and ehancements.

Winner: Draw

LG C6 vs Samsung S90H: verdict

Regardless of which set you settle on, you're getting equally impressive performance and a near-identical selection of features. That said, the LG C6 is the OLED TV I recommend for most people. Its glossy screen is less divisive and the S90H's lack of Dolby Vision support is likely to be a sticking point for a certain type of viewer.

That said, you should consider the S90H if your living space and viewing habits are such that you'd make the most of its matte-style screen (or if you'd rather have Samsung's software suite).

Price is less of a factor in this matchup since both TVs are similarly priced. The 65-inch LG C6 is on sale for $1,799 at Best Buy and the 65-inch Samsung S90H is currently $1,999 at Best Buy. These prices will fluctuate in the coming weeks and months, but I don't expect them to stray too far from one another.

OLED panel prices have been coming down (for now), while brightness levels have been coming up…at least when we’re talking about the best OLED TVs. Samsung’s S90H series exemplifies that progress, with bright images, an anti-glare screen, and strong dynamic range, even in a moderately lit room.

That accomplishment comes alongside the traditional strengths of OLED — deep blacks, rich (and in this case, accurate) color, and screens measuring just a few millimeters thick. This TV is well-equipped for gaming, too, with inconsequential input lag through the latest high-throughput HDMI ports.

The biggest challengers to Samsung's S90H line may be its own, cheaper siblings: the impressive new S85H and last year's excellent S90F, which were $600 to $1000 cheaper, at press time, based on discounts. Those are two of the best Samsung TVs, and if you don’t need the new anti-reflective matte screen, those other options deliver a lot of the same features at a more affordable price.

Samsung S90H review: Pricing and availability

The S90H is Samsung’s mid-range OLED for 2026 that sits between the entry-level Samsung S85H (which we just awarded four stars) and the flagship Samsung S95H (which just earned five). The 55-inch S90H model we reviewed lists for $1,999, and is often discounted at samsung.com and at various retailers like Amazon for $1,797.

Other S90H sizes and list prices are: 42-inch ($1,297), 48-inch ($1,397), 65-inch ($1,997), 77-inch ($2,997), and 83-inch ($4,497).

The step-up S95H lists at $2,299 for a 55-inch screen and adds a brushed-metal frame, Art Store access for using it as a digital picture frame, and powerful OTS+ (70W, 4.2.2-channel) audio. The step-down S85H lists for $1,399; it trades the Samsung Glare Free screen for a standard OLED panel and downgrades audio and gaming features to lower price.

The S90H’s primary competition outside Samsung is the identically priced (at 55 inches) LG C6 OLED. (We reviewed the 65-inch version, which lists for $2,699.) Another close rival is the Sony Bravia 8 II, which features PlayStation-specific integrations. (The 55-inch model lists for $2,599; we tested the 65-inch, $3,299 version.)

Samsung S90H review: Design

The S90H exemplifies the ultra-minimalist panel aesthetic of the day. Its barely-there bezel leaves no room for branding. Without the bulky backlight required for LCD sets, the panel is also incredibly thin, at about 0.15 inches. The bottom-half of the TV protrudes to accommodate all the internals, for a maximum thickness of 1.6 inches.

The one unsubtle feature is a beefy central pedestal stand, with a faux-pewter "Space Titan" plastic finish. Of course, such a thin set is ideal for wall-mounting, using screw holes aligned in the VESA-standard 300mm × 200mm rectangular pattern. The exceptionally petite power cord connector on the back right-side of the TV is well-suited for streamlined mounting.

Even better, because of the new anti-glare screen, you don't have to be careful around windows — it's perfectly capable of dispersing large amounts of light (though you will notice slightly raised black levels as a tradeoff).

Samsung S90H review: Ports

The TV is brimming with high-end connections — all on the left side of the panel, when viewed from behind. Chief among them: a quartet of HDMI 2.1 inputs. They support the highest-grade input: up to 4K/120Hz for sources such as the PS5, Xbox Series X, and many gaming PCs; and up to 4K/165Hz for the most-capable game PCs. The TV supports both NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro variable refresh rate (VRR) standards.

HDMI port 3 supports eARC, which can output high-end digital audio signals to a soundbar or home-theater system. The S90H can decode Dolby Atmos for its built-in sound system or output the signal via the eARC port. It also features a standard optical digital audio S/PDIF output.

Every other type of connection is also present: 3 USB-A ports, LAN for a wired network connection, and RS-232C (which Samsung calls EX-LINK) for access by professional technicians or calibrators. The latter two are basically vestigial organs on consumer TVs these days. You can attach a cable or satellite box or a terrestrial antenna via the RF-in port.

Terrestrial signals are routed to an older-style ATSC 1 tuner that doesn't support new ATSC 3.0 NextGen broadcast standards for 4K resolution, HDR, and wider color gamuts. (These limitations don't apply if you are using other sources, such as modern cable or streaming services.) Its Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E wireless capabilities are not the latest either, but are more than adequate.

How we test

We follow a standard testing protocol for every TV we review at Tom’s Guide. Our benchmarks include a series of technical and subjective tests designed to rate the set’s performance. For our technical tests, we set the TV to Filmmaker mode (usually the most accurate out of the box) and take measurements using a Jeti spectraval 1501-HiRes spectroradiometer, a Klein K10-A colorimeter, a Murideo 8K-SIX-G Metal pattern generator, and Portrait Displays’ Calman TV-calibration software. We also use a Leo Bodnar 4K Video Signal Lag Tester for determining the TV’s gaming prowess.

Subjective tests vary based on the reviewer but usually include anecdotes from a diverse selection of movies, TV shows, and other content. For a more detailed look, check out our “How we test TVs” page.

Samsung S90H review: Performance

I zeroed in on the is-it-worth-it question by evaluating the S90H vs S85H. Long story short: They are very close, with the S90H standing out a little in HDR quality and more in sound quality.

Visually, in a moderately lit room, there were only slight differences between the two models. The S90H's higher brightness helped a tad, and skintones were perhaps a bit too warm on the S85H, but I had to squint to make out any of these differences.

I love "Bridgerton" (Season 1, Ep 3, 17:00-19:00) for testing TVs. It spans a wide range of lighting from brilliant sunshine to dim interiors (rendered in HDR10+), a riot of bright but not garish colors, and the show's hallmark variety of skin tones. The S90H handled the material as well as any TV I have tested. In the deeper shadows, the S90H showed a noticeable improvement over the S85H in clarity — point to the S90H.

Turning on Ariana Grande's "hate that i made you love me," on YouTube showed some other slight differences. For instance, I could see a tad more detail in the wheels of the upturned, burning car, or in Grande's face against various fire scenes. I did not see a clear difference with the S90H's glare-free screen technology in my moderately-lit test environment — but in rooms with uncontrollable ambient light, it's going to make a world of difference.

Of course, we can’t talk about the S90H without talking about its AI features — Samsung has gone all-in for AI enhancement, powered by its NQ4 AI Gen3 processor. AI Mode is on by default for both video and audio. The audio effects are subtle. The video ones can be dramatic. Sometimes AI Mode produces a little extra clarity; often, it just makes everything super-bright and slightly blue-tinted (which increases the perception of brightness). For bright videos in a bright room, you won't notice it too much. With higher grade content, it can be a detriment.

I liked Samsung's AI enhancement in my review of its QN70F Neo QLED TV because it made up for the TVs shortcomings, such as murkiness in HDR content like "Dune" or "Stranger Things," but here it can actually make the image worse.

For example, AI Mode was rather brutal for the HDR-10 "Blade Runner 2049" Blu-ray (Chapter 5). It did maintain strong blacks, but it also blew out (and blue-d out) some scenes. This could help in a very bright room. But for film-night viewing, the set's Filmmaker mode preserved the nuance of Denis Villeneuve's vision (even though this TV doesn't support the Dolby Vision standard for image fidelity).

If you find Filmmaker mode too dim, you can get similar quality and a bit more brightness in the adjacent Movie mode. I had no choice but to use it when watching the extremely dim night scenes in the "Sinners" Blu-ray. Eco was also a good, even brighter, option. But AI Mode made a bright, blue mess of it.

When I turned off AI Mode, the TV defaulted into the Eco Mode, which was the right choice for most content. It produced the best colors across most content types, and it was certainly the best for displaying photos. In a challenging picture I took of three women sitting before a fountain on a brilliant day, the S90H captured colors with subtle accuracy and toned down a heavily overexposed portion of the image about as well as can be expected.

But here's the thing: The S85H performed equally well. They were also matched for a photo testing extreme light and dark: a bright-blue neon sign against a black background. OLED is the master of black levels, and even a lower-cost model is a solid performer.

Samsung S90H review: Test results

*As measured in Filmmaker mode.

In a battle among high-performance TVs, the differentiating factor is often brightness, especially with HDR content. This is where you generally get what you pay for, as in Samsung's own OLED lineup. We measured HDR brightness of 771 nits for the S85H, 1,497 nits for the S90H, and 2,721 nits for the S95H (not pictured in the chart above, but tested in the same way).

The S90H we reviewed is one of the only 55-inch OLED models we've tested; most have been 65-inch screens. So our comparisons inevitably span screen sizes. The S90H's HDR brightness is well above average for all 65-inch OLEDs we've tested (1,104 nits) and a tad above average for newer models from 2025 and 2026 (1,331 nits). Newer 65-inch LCD TVs, by comparison, average out to just a bit more, at 1,507 nits — showing that the performance gap between TV technologies is narrowing (excluding some new LCDs that target blinding brightness like the TCL QM9K).

These and other rival TVs are either quite close, or inconsequentially different, in most other measures. The cheaper S85H already reproduces 100% of the Rec. 709 color gamut; comparatively, the 109.61% of the S90H and 113.30% for the S95H are only of theoretical benefit. Here specs take a backseat to a practical question: How does the color look?

Delta-E is a measure of how far the colors on the screen diverge from what the signal sent to the panel calls for. The lower the number, the better the accuracy. This TV's Delta-E of 1.65 (in Filmmaker mode) is quite good. It's in the lower (better) half of results, ranging from 0.8 to 3.6, for the OLEDs we've tested (with an average of 1.9). More importantly, it's far below a level at which a person, rather than a color meter, would notice a difference.

For yet more perspective, this TV's performance is indistinguishable from that of its cheaper sibling, the S85H, which posts a Delta-E of 1.69. Curiously, it's also better than that of the pricier S95H, at 2.24.

Samsung S90H review: Audio

Sometimes there is a clear correlation between specs and experience, and built-in audio is one of those cases. The 20W, 2.0-channel speakers in the S85H didn't sound bad: I found the quality of the trumpets and guitar playing on the Bruno Mars "Risk It All" YouTube video to sound faithful. But the audio lacked a sense of presence. (Raising the volume didn't make a meaningful difference.)

By contrast, the 40W, 2.1-channel system in the S90H provides enough oomph for a respectable audio experience. It puts the spatial audio capabilities of Dolby Atmos to good effect in "Blade Runner 2049."

Even the YouTube music videos had a more enveloping quality: Switching from Standard to Amplify mode definitely expanded the soundstage in both the Bruno Mars and Arianna Grande music videos.

Keep in mind: This is grading on a curve. You will get a substantially fuller experience, especially in bass, with external speakers. If sound is a priority for you, it may not matter much that the S90H has better built-in audio than the S85H. You'll be adding home theater speakers or one of the best soundbars, anyway. But if you don't want peripherals to distract from this TV's slim, minimalist design, you'll appreciate the built-in 40W, 2.1 system.

Samsung S90H review: Interface and remote

Samsung's One UI Tizen smart platform exemplifies the bloat that is endemic in smart TV software. The setup screens push you hard to install the SmartThings app — a hub for Samsung's smart home device universe, which hogged 866MB on my iPhone 13. What's more: Popups encouraging me to use SmartThings plagued my navigation of the TV interface. I was able to bypass the app for setting up the TV, but it was still a long, complex process, requiring me to click through a wall of permissions screens to set up a mandatory account. (I had been kinder to Tizen in my review of the QN70F, but the more time I spend with it, the more frustrated I get.)

The overall interface is pretty standard. From top-to-bottom: a bunch of promoted content, some clusters of content (such as soccer coverage), a thin band of installed streaming app icons, and clusters of recommendations (such as "New on TV" or "4th of July Favorites"). After I connected a Blu-ray player, an icon for the device was scuttled to the end of the apps bar, which took a while for me to locate. The set includes access to Samsung TV Plus, with over 400 content channels.

Samsung's Bixby voice interface could handle basic queries, such as "What are the top five movies with Tom Cruise?" I got options like "Top Gun: Maverick" and various Missions Impossible, and the options to select services to play them on, such as Pluto TV. The experience was not consistent, though. I didn't always get the same movie recommendations, or not recommendations in the same order. And I didn't always get the same options for where to play them. (The TV also offers Alexa as an assistant.)

When I asked the TV to "play 'Bridgerton' on Netflix," all I got was a Wikipedia-like description of the show and options for "related content." (That's despite having just watched the show in the Netflix app on this TV.)

Going the tactile route, this TV provides Samsung's standard slim remote — small enough for most people to operate one-handed. It has the ubiquitous four-direction ring and central button, shortcuts to select video apps, and a button for the TV's shortcut settings menu. The remote charges via USB-C or a solar panel on the back.

Samsung S90H review: Verdict

If it existed in a vacuum, the S90H would be one of the best OLED TVs of 2026. Unfortunately it has to share shelf space with the brand’s cheaper S85H and step-up S95H OLEDs that are, in my opinion, either a better value or a better performer overall.

That’s not to say that the S90H is a bad value, though. Factors such as relatively high brightness, relatively good sound, and top-tier gaming capabilities justify the cost of the S90H.

If you want good anti-glare matte coating and a better-than-average sound system, this TV's price is justified. If your budget isn't as high as your aspirations, however, look to the S85H or discounts on recent predecessor models, especially the S90F.

It's been a banner year for high-performance TVs. OLEDs are better than ever and, between RGB LED and Super Quantum Dot (SQD) TVs, brands are breaking ground with all-new souped-up display technologies.

Take, for instance, the Samsung S95H. After extensive testing, we awarded the S95H a rare, five-star rating on account of its stunning performance and its extensive list of features. The S95H is not only one of the best TVs of the year, it's one of the best TVs I've ever seen, period.

But there's a twist. Broadly speaking, there aren't too many people I'd point in the S95H's direction. Despite its prowess, this near-perfect TV is a tougher sell than another competitive OLED: the LG C6.

Don't get me wrong, the S95H is great...

To understand why I recommend the C6, let's dive deeper into the Samsung S95H's performance: Most of its success comes down to contrast.

As an OLED, the S95H trades a traditional backlight for millions of self-illuminating pixels. The benefits here are immense, as the S95H can whip up perfect black levels with zero light bloom.

OLED TVs have always been dimmer than backlit LCD sets, but the gap is shrinking. At over 2,700 nits, the S95H is one of the brightest OLEDs we've ever measured, and this combination of perfect black levels and searing highlight brightness creates eye-popping depth and a truly realistic-looking presentation.

The added horsepower is primarily the result of the S95H's quantum dot-enhanced OLED display. These nanocrystals are also responsible for the S95H's incredible color — it covers an impressive 89.6% of the BT.2020 color gamut.

It all adds up to a TV whose picture is as close to perfection as I've seen. But I'm still recommending the LG C6 over the S95H for most shoppers, and I suspect I'll continue doing so throughout the year.

...but the C6 is (probably) the better buy

LG's mid-range marvel isn't nearly as bright as Samsung's best OLED TV, nor is it strapped with quantum dots for brighter, purer color. But the C6 is a gorgeous sight to behold nonetheless, and it all comes down to LG's fantastic OLED engineering.

Its peak brightness of around 1,300 nits is plenty punchy when paired with the perfect black levels of an OLED-driven picture. Yes, the S95H's blistering highlights play a huge role in its eye-catching presentation, but even the most jaded of viewers are liable to be floored by the C6's excellent HDR performance.

The C6 covers about 76% of the BT.2020, and while that isn't as impressive as the S95H, you're not likely to notice the difference outside of a direct, side-by-side comparison. More importantly, according to our testing, the C6 is terrifically accurate right out of the box.

The main reason I'll spend the rest of the year recommending the C6 over the S95H, however, has nothing to do with performance. The S95H is obviously the more impressive-looking OLED, but the C6 is an order of magnitude cheaper than Samsung's top-shelf set.

The 65-inch C6 just received its first major discount of about $700, which brings its price down to $1,999. That's not a budget-friendly sticker price, to be clear, but it's much friendlier than buying the 65-inch Samsung S95H for $3,299.

Ask yourself this: The S95H offers better performance than the C6, but is that added performance worth an extra $1,300? For dedicated home theater enthusiasts, the answer might be yes, but the average viewer looking for high-end performance will be more than happy with the C6.

In the TV business, July is a turning point. Memorial Day sales event are way back in the rearview mirror and Independence Day sales have dried up. By this time of the year, Prime Day has usually come and gone, too.

Mid-July is when I start sounding the alarm bells about last-year's TVs disappearing from shelves. There's no way around it: Newer models are replacing the old ones, and their prices are probably much higher.

This week, I'm ringing the bell about LG's entry-level OLED TV from last year, the LG B5. Specifically, I'm expecting a Best Buy-exclusive version of the B5 to be cleared out of stock soon. Right now, the 48-inch LG B5 is $649 at Best Buy, and when it's finally gone, one of my favorite OLED deals will be gone, too.

OLED TVs like the B5 don't rely on a backlight. Instead, all of their pixels are self-illuminating, and this built-in advantage is why people rave about OLED TVs.

Self-lit pixels allow for perfect black levels. An OLED-driven picture is free from that hazy, bluish-colored light bloom you'll often see on even the best Mini-LED TVs money can buy.

And, while the entry-level B5 isn't nearly as bright and colorful as some of the best OLED TVs on the market, the perfect black levels and surgical contrast control make a huge difference, particularly during cinematic, HDR content.

In addition, the B5 is a terrific choice for A/V enthusiasts yearning for an accurate presentation. According to our tests, the B5 is almost entirely free of perceptible color error in its out-of-the-box state. It's one of the reasons I find it to be such an attractive option for bargain-shoppers who care about picture quality.

Another reason I recommend the B5 so often is because, despite its low price and entry-level approach, it's nevertheless stuffed with a ton of useful features for streaming and gaming.

Gamers are getting basically everything they need for current-gen consoles, including support for 4K gaming at 120Hz. The B5 also comes with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), AMD FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility.

The B5 is built around last-year's version of webOS. It's not at the top of my list of preferred streaming platforms, but if you're hesitant to buy a dedicated streaming device, webOS has enough app support to serve as your daily driver.

If you need a bigger screen than 48 inches, the 55-inch LG B5 is just $899 at Best Buy right now, too. It's not quite as good of deal as a $649, 48-inch OLED TV, but it's more affordable than most OLEDs.

Landing a good TV deal is all about timing. When we tested and reviewed LG's newest mid-range OLED TV back in April, our takeaway was simple: The LG C6 is an exceptional TV whose sticker price is a bit too high. My colleague Dylan Haas — who wrote the review — recommended that folks wait "until the back half of the year when the C6 inevitably drops its price."

Fast-forward to today. If you took Dylan’s advice and held off on buying the C6 at full price, your patience has now been rewarded.

The 65-inch LG C6 just crashed to $1,999 on Amazon. It's a steep, 26% discount on one of the year's best TVs, and for the first time since its release, I can recommend it with full, unbridled enthusiasm.

You can check out Dylan's LG C6 review for a full report on this mid-range OLED (including test results), but here's the basic gist: The C6 is only a marginal upgrade over the C5, but to be fair, the C5 was a five-star stunner of a TV.

Until now, I've been directing people to the C5 on account of its cheaper price tag. And, while the C5 is still sporting a friendlier price tag over a year after its debut, the C6's latest discount is deep enough to bring it back into the conversation.

If you've never gazed upon an OLED TV before, you're in for a treat. The C6 doesn't rely on a traditional backlight, and instead, each one of its millions of pixels is self-illuminating.

This means that the C6 can render perfect black levels. Bright objects aren't saddled with the distracting, hazy-looking light bloom you're bound to see even on high-end Mini-LED TVs that cost roughly the same as the C6.

The C6 also leads the mid-range OLED class when it comes to features. All four of its HDMI 2.1 inputs support 4K gaming at 120Hz (the highest 4K spec for today's consoles), and 4K/165Hz is an option for PC gamers. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and AMD FreeSync Premium are along for the ride, too.

LG's in-house streaming platform isn't my favorite (that honor goes to Roku), but the C6's built-in webOS functionality is reliable enough for everyday use.

Unlike Samsung's mid-range OLED TV for 2026 (the S90H), the C6 comes with Dolby Vision support. This is one of the most popular HDR formats, and its inclusion ensures that the C6 is able to accurately match a filmmaker's vision during Dolby Vision-mastered content.

Unfortunately, this is the portion of the post where I must remind you that the prices of new TVs fluctuate quite often. According to my records, the LG C6 was listed on Amazon for $2,699 as recently as the middle of June. If you're interested in saving on this set, I don't recommend waiting.

The LG C6 is one of the year's best TVs, and it's easy to see why. In addition to its incredible, OLED-driven performance, the C6 offers more gaming- and streaming-related features than any other TV in its class. Like its predecessors, its mid-range price is sure to make it a popular pick.

The Samsung S95H, on the other hand, is a significant step up from the C6 in many ways. It's arguably the best TV in Samsung's 2026 lineup, and maybe the best TV the brand has ever engineered. Thanks to its quantum dot-enhanced OLED panel, the S95H delivers better brightness and color than the LG C6, but its divisive design and sky-high price tag could limit its appeal.

If you're in the market for an OLED TV this year and you're willing to spend on something beyond the entry-level tier, the C6 and S95H ought to be on your short list. Here's how they stack up when it comes to performance, design and features.

LG C6 vs Samsung S95H: Specs compared

First, let's take a look at the available size options in both series. You can buy the LG C6 in 77- and 83-inch variants, but these are classified as an altogether different model called the LG C6H. In other words, if you want a 77- or 83-inch LG C6, you'll technically have to buy the C6H.

We've yet to test either the 77- or 83-inch versions of the C6H, but LG promises better performance on these sets on account of the fact that they're equipped with LG Display's newest RGB Tandem OLED display. This panel type allows for higher brightness and better color volume than the standard WOLED displays found on the 42- to 65-inch versions of the C6.

There's panel variance to be aware of on Samsung's side, too. The 55-, 65- and 77-inch versions of the S95H harness Samsung Display's quantum dot-enhanced OLED display, while the 83-inch S95H uses LG Display's RGB Tandem OLED panel, similar to the C6H. (I'll dive into how the differences in panel type affect performance later on.)

One of the biggest differences between these sets lies in HDR support. Like all LG OLEDs, the C6 supports Dolby Vision, a proprietary version of enhanced HDR.

As is the case with all Samsung TVs, the S95H does not support Dolby Vision. Instead, Samsung offers HDR10+, a royalty-free version of Dolby Vision that leverages metadata to adjust the picture on a frame-by-frame basis, similar to how Dolby Vision works.

You'll still be able to watch Dolby Vision-mastered content on the S95H, but the picture will fall back to standard HDR10. It'll certainly look great, but technically speaking, the S95H can't take full advantage of Dolby Vision's efforts to replicate the creator's intent. Neither OLED supports ATSC 3.0, which allows over-the-air broadcasts to be piped-in at native 4K resolution. However, both sets serve up four HDMI 2.1-compatible inputs and support 4K gaming at 120Hz (and up to 165Hz when a PC is connected).

With everything else being mostly equal, the C6's Dolby Vision support and wider range of size options gives it an edge here.

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs Samsung S95H: design

The C6 (seen above) mostly sticks to the design approach of its predecessor, the LG C5. That's good news, because it's an elegant-looking TV.

The C6's downward-slanting, wedge-shaped sits below the center of the screen. It sits low on its surface, so folks with taller soundbars ought to make sure the C6's design offers enough clearance.

I really love the sleek, thin look of the C6, since it leans into the flexible design elements OLED TVs are known for. And, while you'll almost never see this particular design flourish, I also dig the marble-like finish across the back of the C6's panel.

The C6 comes with the newest version of LG's Magic Remote. Like older versions of the Magic Remote, the C6's clicker can be used to point and click at the screen like a Wii-mote. If you don't want to use it (which I rarely do), there's a directional pad here, too.

Whether you mount it on the wall or set it up on a credenza, the C6's design is both premium-looking and convenient. The Samsung S95H, on the other hand, is a different story.

Built around Samsung's flagship OLED screen is a thick, metallic frame. The brushed-metal material plays the part of a premium piece of engineering, but it's quite divisive nonetheless.

For my money, the S95H's metal frame allows it to look better in a wall-mounted position than a wall-mounted C6. It keeps the S95H flush against the wall and resembles a portrait frame.

But on a credenza, media console or table, the LG C6 is a better-looking TV. The S95H comes with a pair of L-shaped feet if you don't decide to wall-mount it, but its frame (which can't be detached) looks out of place when not on a wall.

Like the its previous two predecessors, the S95H's screen features Samsung's Glare Free display. This matte-style finish is unparalleled in its ability to reduce direct glare, but it does so at a cost.

In well-lit rooms (especially during the day), the S95H's matte finish lifts the TV's black levels due to the manner in which it scatters incoming light. When this happens, darker portions of the screen can appear purplish- or pinkish-gray rather than deep, inky and black.

Thanks to its glossy-style screen, the C5 doesn't have this issue in well-lit rooms. However, it's nowhere near as adept at blunting the impact of direct glare.

Both TVs are rocking thoughtful, premium designs, but depending on your needs, you might favor one over another. The C6 is more versatile and the S95H is more specialized.

Winner: Draw

LG C6 vs Samsung S95H: Performance

Before we dive into which of these TVs is the better performer, let's compare their test results. (Both TVs were in their respective Filmmaker picture mode when these tests were taken.)

Both of these sets are capable of delivering the key features that OLED TVs are known for: perfect black levels and pixel-level dimming. As a result, pretty much everything looks superb on both the C6 and the S95H. However, if you take a peek under their respective hoods, you'll see that their display hardware plays a big part in the S95H's built-in advantages.

As mentioned, the C6 leverages LG Display's standard WOLED display, while the S95H taps Samsung Display's quantum dot-enhanced OLED display.

QD-OLEDs tend to offer brighter highlights and purer color than garden-variety WOLED panels, and we can see that in test results of the C6 and S95H. Samsung's flagship is capable of driving nearly twice as much brightness to specular highlights, and this has a tremendously positive impact on visual depth and clarity.

Fiery sparks, pools of reflective light and muzzle flares are much, much brighter on the S95H during HDR content. In addition, Samsung's quantum dot-enhanced display allows for better overall color volume than the C6, so everything from skin tones to foliage has a chance of looking richer on Samsung's flagship OLED.

Make no mistake: The C6 is still an incredible performer. Over 1,300 nits of HDR highlight brightness is nothing to scoff at, and the self-emissive nature of OLED means that the C6 gets more out of its highlight brightness than an LCD TV with similar brightness levels. Colors are well-saturated, too, even if the C6 can't cover as much of the expanded color gamut as the S95H.

If the LG C6 is a 9/10 performer, the S95H offers 10/10 picture quality. In this case, the difference between a 9 and 10, however, is pretty wide. Both are excellent options if you care about picture quality, but the S95H offers some of the best performance I've ever seen.

Winner: Samsung S95H

LG C6 vs Samsung S95H: Smart platform and features

The C6 ships with the newest version of LG's webOS. It's a similar experience to last-year's version of webOS, but a handful of tweaks to the interface and menu layout make it a bit easier to navigate this year.

As far as smart platform software goes, LG's webOS isn't my top choice (that honor goes to Roku). It's littered with ads and recommended content, and at times, the software feels a bit sluggish.

That said, webOS will get the job done if you'd rather not shell out for a dedicated streaming box. I suspect that most people will see no problem using it as their daily streaming platform.

The S95H arrives with a recently refreshed version of Samsung's Tizen-based smart platform, Smart Hub. It's similar to what we used last year, but as is the case with webOS, Samsung has made some minor changes to improve navigation. For instance, new this year is a menu bar at the top of the screen that makes it easier to access important settings.

Unless you have strong feelings about either streaming software, both webOS and Smart Hub are similar in their perks and pain points. In other words, they're passable.

As far as gaming features go, the C6 and S95H are almost identical. As mentioned, each OLED offers HDMI 2.1-compatibility across all four inputs, which means you don't have to juggle devices to maximize bandwidth.

These TVs can make the most out of 4K titles on current-generation consoles, as they each support 4K gaming at 120Hz (and up to 165Hz with a PC linked up). Both offer Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and a version of AMD FreeSync Premium for smooth, artifact-free gameplay.

We've already docked the S95H for its lack of Dolby Vision support, and setting this aside, these TVs are very similar when it comes to software and enhancements. They're powerful gaming TVs with average streaming platforms.

Winner: Draw

LG C6 vs Samsung S90F: Verdict

Here's some good news: No matter which set you settle on, you're getting one of the best OLED TVs of the year. But let's take a closer look at some key factors.

If you absolutely, positively want Dolby Vision support, the answer is easy: Buy the C6. Likewise, if you're looking for an OLED screen under 55 inches, the C6 is the answer.

The S95H is the OLED to buy if you favor picture quality above all else. Its added brightness and quantum-dot color add up to performance that's a significant step up from the C6. Similarly, if you have bright light sources in your living space and you suspect that the S95H's matte-style screen will help, Samsung is probably the way to go.

Price is important, too. Today, you can spring for a 65-inch C6 for $1,999 on Amazon. The 55-inch LG C6 is available for just $1,699 on Amazon. That's not exactly cheap, but it's a far better cost than what you'll have to shell out for Samsung's top OLED TV.

Right now, the 65-inch Samsung S95H is $3,299 at Best Buy. The 55-inch S95H is $2,299 at Best Buy — a full $600 more than the 55-inch C6.

This gulf in pricing is why I recommend the LG C6 to most shoppers. It's still a stunning, high-performing TV that delivers everything I appreciate about OLED technology, but it's much more accessible. The S95H is more of a luxury purchase for those who want the best of the best.

The Samsung S95H is not only one of the best OLED TVs of the year, it's one of the best TVs I've ever seen. It recently earned our coveted five-star rating thanks to its jaw-dropping performance and its thorough array of features, but starting at $2,299 (for 55-inch) its prohibitively pricey for most people and its metal-frame design is divisive.

The Samsung S85H, which earned 4 stars in our review, is the brand's entry-level OLED for 2026. As such, it's far less expensive than its flagship-level sibling, starting at $1,199 for a 48-inch. It comes with a ton of nifty features despite its entry-level status, but its otherwise-impressive picture can't compete with the quantum dot-enhanced performance you'll see on the S95H.

If you're shopping for an OLED TV this year, these sets are worthy candidates. Fortunately, we've tested both extensively, and I've got over a decade of experience under my belt. Here's how the Samsung S95H and S85H OLED TVs compare — from performance to features and price.

Samsung S95H vs S85H: Specs compared

These TVs share many of the same specs despite their different price points. Like all Samsung TVs, neither of these OLEDs supports Dolby Vision, the most widely used, enhanced HDR format. However, they're among the very first Samsung TVs to arrive with HDR10+ Advanced, an all-new, royalty-free Dolby Vision alternative. HDR10+ Advanced is a direct competitor of Dolby Vision 2, the newest version of Dolby Vision HDR.

Conveniently, the S85H is available in a smaller, 48-inch screen size and goes up to 83 inches. This is good news for people looking for a more modestly sized OLED TV. The S95H starts at 55 inches and goes up to 83 inches.

Although both sets support 4K content at 120Hz (the highest 4K spec for current-gen gaming consoles), the S95H can showcase 4K/165Hz content with a PC linked up. And, while it's only relevant for a small subset of people, the S95H can support an optional, external One Connect Box if you need up to four additional HDMI ports.

Winner: Samsung S95H

Samsung S95H vs S85H: Design

The first thing we ought to discuss is the Samsung S95H's most eye-catching (albeit divisive) feature: a metal frame surrounding its picture.

The S95H's OLED screen sits above this metallic frame, elegantly lifting the entire picture closer to the viewer. The brushed-metal material looks and feels like a premium flourish, but it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Personally speaking, I don't mind the look of the S95H's frame when the TV is mounted on a wall, but it draws more attention to itself when its positioned atop the S95H's included feet. (It's important to note that the frame can't be detached, so if you don't dig the look, you won't be able to duck it.)

The metal frame isn't the only bold design choice found on the S95H. Like the pair of Samsung-branded flagship OLEDs that preceded it, the S95H's screen features Samsung's now-iconic, Glare Free display.

This matte-style finish does a fantastic job of eliminating direct glare, but there's a catch: During daytime viewing (or whenever there's an average amount of ambient light), the S95H's matte-style screen lifts its black levels due to the scattering of light. When this happens, darker sequences can appear purplish-gray instead of deep, inky and black.

The S85H (seen above) doesn't come with Samsung's Glare Free display. Instead, it features a good ol' fashioned, glossy-style screen.

This means that, when there's an average amount of light in the room, the S85H's black levels will appear darker, and closer to the way you might expect when imagining OLED-backed performance.

Unfortunately, if a bright source of light (like a window or lamp) is caught in the S85H's reflection, you'll see most of its impact on the picture. It simply can't blunt the contours of that glare as effectively as the S95H's matte screen.

The S85H isn't sporting a wide, metallic frame, either, which could be a positive or a negative depending on your taste. Its pair of L-shaped feet keep the panel in place without much wobble, and without the frame, its wafer-thin panel is proudly spotlighted.

Both OLEDs arrive with Samsung's Solar Cell remote control in the box. It's light-powered lithium-ion battery is mighty convenient and saves on waste, but its lack of backlight feature (to say nothing of its missing input button) remains a drag in 2026.

While there's no denying that the S95H's overall build quality comes with a more premium look and feel, its bold aesthetic touches will either entice or repulse depending on the viewer. Points for style, I suppose.

Winner: Samsung S95H

Samsung S95H vs S85H: Performance

Before we dive into which of these TVs is the better performer, let's compare their test results. (Both TVs were switched into Samsung's Filmmaker picture mode when these tests were taken.)

Somewhat surprisingly, in Filmmaker mode, the entry-level S85H offers slightly brighter performance when showing SDR content. This means that run-of-the-mill, average stuff like cable TV, YouTube videos and most over-the-air programming are a touch brighter on the S85H when watching in Samsung's most-accurate picture mode.

That said, I need to stress that the difference in brightness in SDR is quite slim, and the S95H's superior processing (which includes upscaling) is the real difference-maker during most SDR content.

In nearly every other way that matters, the S95H is a better-performing TV, and it all comes down to OLED type; the lower-end S85H taps a standard WOLED display, while the 55-, 65- and 77-inch versions of the flagship-level S95H are equipped with Samsung Display's quantum dot-enhanced OLED display.

The 83-inch S95H also leverages enhanced OLED technology. This model makes use of LG Display's RGB Tandem OLED panel, a sort of souped-up WOLED display.

There are many differences between QD-OLED and WOLED, but for our purposes, here's what you need to know: Every size option in the S95H series offers better HDR brightness and color volume than what you'll see across the S85H series, and it's not particularly close.

As you can see from our test results, the S95H is capable of driving over twice the highlight brightness in HDR compared to the S85H. In real-world terms, this means that small, shimmering reflections of sunlight, distant streetlights and muzzle flashes will look far more realistic on the S95H.

The S95H also excels in the always-important color category. Thanks to its enhanced OLED display, it covers a whopping 89% of the BT.2020 color space compared to about 73% on the S85H.

In a footrace, quantum-dot OLEDs gain most of their ground against WOLED due to their ability to work with brighter, purer shades of color. As a result, everything from skin tones to sunsets look truer to life on the higher-end S95H.

(I should note that, while we haven't tested the 83-inch version of the S95H, I don't expect its RGB Tandem OLED panel to be quite as colorful as the quantum dot-equipped displays attached to the 55-, 65- and 77-inch versions. Nevertheless, I do expect this version to offer significantly better color volume than all sizes of the S85H.)

The good news is that, no matter its limitations, the S85H is still an OLED TV. It still comes with perfect black levels and pixel-level dimming. Like all OLEDs, it's not saddled with light bloom, nor does it exhibit haloing around super-bright objects.

Most folks will be gobsmacked by the S85H's picture quality. The S95H is simply brighter, more colorful and guided by more-advanced processing, and in a side-by-side comparison, the differences are overwhelming.

Winner: Samsung S95H

Samsung S95H vs S85H: Smart platform and features

Both the S95H and the S85H arrive with a refreshed version of Samsung's Tizen-based smart platform. It's similar to what we saw across various 2025 Samsung TVs, but there are some minor changes to the interface that make navigation a bit easier. For instance, new this year is a menu bar at the top of the screen that provides quick access to important settings.

Samsung Gaming Hub is still prominently featured within the newest interface, but nothing is more omnipresent than the platform's various AI-based features — none of which have helped me solve a problem nor sparked joy in the several hours I've spent testing Samsung TVs this year. Your mileage may vary.

As far as nuts-and-bolts gaming stuff goes, you're getting support for 4K/120Hz gaming on both of these TVs, but only the S95H can hit 4K/165Hz with a gaming rig linked up. Both sets offer stock VRR, G-Sync compatibility and FreeSync Premium (though the S95H is rocking FreeSync Premium Pro).

The overall user experience of these TVs is quite similar. That said, the S95H offers more features than almost every other Samsung TV on the market.

Winner: Samsung S95H

Samsung S95H vs S85H: Verdict

The Samsung S95H is one of the best OLED TVs I've ever laid eyes on. It's also one of the brightest OLEDs you can buy, which not only makes it one of the safest OLED-based options for brighter-than-average rooms, but also allows for an astonishing sense of cinematic, visual depth.

There's no way around it, however: Many people will bump up against the S95H's bold design elements, and while it's a fantastic bright-room OLED, some home theater enthusiasts won't dig the TV's raised black levels while it sits in a bright room.

And then there's the price. Right now, the 65-inch Samsung S95H is $3,299 at Best Buy. That's a lot of money.

The Samsung S85H is nowhere near as impressive-looking as the S95H, but you're still getting a similar set of features. In addition, as an OLED TV, it's got a bunch of built-in benefits over similarly priced LCD TVs, and its "safer" design has wider appeal than that of the S95H.

I suspect that the S85H's price will be the thing that catches the conscience of most shoppers. Currently, the 65-inch Samsung S85H is $1,899 at Best Buy — a full $1,400 cheaper than the S95H.

I can't argue that the S95H's higher-end performance isn't worth the added $1,400 over the S85H. It's a truly stunning TV and, in my estimation, worthy of its high price. Nevertheless, it's an order of magnitude more expensive than Samsung's entry-level OLED, and the S85H is plenty good for the price, too.

When I reviewed 2025’s mid-budget Samsung S85F OLED, I said that it transformed me from a Samsung skeptic into a genuine fan. Its successor, the S85H, is really only an incremental upgrade — similar to the differences between LG’s C5 and C6 OLEDs — but I still think it’s worth adding to your 2026 shortlist based on our lab tests and living with this set.

Like the S85F, the S85H brings stunning visuals, speedy performance, and an excellent gaming mode to the table. New additions include a better-performing OS, expanded AI features, and a 48-inch option for those who want a more compact TV. To see how the S85H stacked up against the S85F, I put the newly released OLED through its paces using our in-depth testing process (which you can read about more below in the “How we test TVs” section), and I came away pleased with my experience.

While you could safely buy an S85F at a deep discount and get a similar overall experience, you should still consider the S85H if you want to stay on the cutting edge of Samsung’s current OLED offerings. It’s not a monumental improvement in terms of picture quality and gaming features, but its updated processor will get you sharper streaming content and a bevy of AI optimization features that the S85F doesn’t. It’s a strong candidate to be one of the best OLED TVs of the year.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Price and release date

The Samsung S85H is part of Samsung’s 2026 OLED TV lineup. It launched in April 2026 for $1,999. We reviewed the 65-inch model, but it comes in four other sizes for you to choose from. Here’s a breakdown of your options:

• Samsung S85H OLED (48-inch): $1,099
• Samsung S85H OLED (55-inch): $1,299
• Samsung S85H OLED (65-inch): $1,699
• Samsung S85H OLED (77-inch): $2,399
• Samsung S85H OLED (83-inch): $3,999

These prices are in line with what the Samsung S85F launched at, but one notable change is the addition of a 48-inch model for 2026, which should fit nicely in smaller spaces like a bedroom or home office.

If you don’t want to pay full price for the 55-,65-,75-, or 83-inch models, you could always pick up last year’s S85F OLED. You’ll get a similar experience to the S85H (minus some features), and the 65-inch model is currently sitting at a $1,000 discount on Samsung’s website.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Design

The S85H, like the S85F, has an ultra-thin profile that looks super sleek at just 1.3 inches deep. Setting the TV up felt a little bit precarious — the S85H’s frame felt like it could snap in half if you held it the wrong way — but as long as you’re careful and have a second set of hands to help, it shouldn’t be an issue.

The TV utilizes the same stand setup that the S85F did, and while I generally prefer a central pedestal stand, Samsung’s dual legs work just fine. That’s because they can be placed in more than one configuration, one of them being pretty close to the center of the TV, which makes it compatible with a wider range of furniture.

The downside is that the legs don’t feel that sturdy, which isn’t great at this price point, but I didn’t notice any issues after getting them in place. If you want to avoid that altogether, you can always mount the S85H on the wall using a 300 x 200 mm VESA wall mount.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Ports

Besides a switch from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6E, the Samsung S85H has a nearly identical set of connectivity options to the S85F, which is good considering that the latter came with four HDMI 2.1 ports and was eARC-compatible in case you want to connect one of the best soundbars.

In addition to the HDMI ports, you’ll also find two USB-A ports, as well as an Ethernet port, antenna input, and 3.5mm jack. Unless you’re looking for an ATSC 3.0 tuner, which isn’t present on the S85H, it’s a pretty all-encompassing suite of ports … even if it’s mostly copy/pasted from last year’s model.

How we test TVs

We follow a standard testing protocol for every TV we review at Tom’s Guide. Our benchmarks include a series of technical and subject tests designed to rate the set’s performance.

For our technical tests, we use a Jeti spectraval 1501-HiRes spectroradiometer, a Klein K10-A colorimeter, a Murideo 8K-SIX-G Metal pattern generator, and Portrait Displays’s Calman TV calibration software to take measurements. We also use a Leo Bodnar 4K Input Lag Tester for determining whether it’s one of the best gaming TVs.

Subjective tests vary based on the reviewer, but usually feature anecdotes from a diverse selection of movies, TV shows, and other content reflecting the types of things you may actually want to watch on the TV.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Performance

To test out the S85H, I watched various films, shows, and YouTube content. I also spent some time playing games on the OLED using a base PlayStation 5 console.

I started with Netflix hits “Beef” Season 2 and “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”. Both looked wonderful and detailed, boasting a deep range of colors and blacks. Switching over to 4K Ultra Blu-Ray copies of “Blade Runner 2049” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” yielded even better results at much greater detail. “Spider-Man” looked particularly good on the S85H, with its spectacular color palette and animation style popping off the screen in every scene.

The S85H has a wide breadth of picture modes for you to toy around with, including Standard, Eco, Vivid, Filmmaker, and more. Filmmaker is my preferred mode to watch most content in, which gives everything a warmer and cinematic tone that looks its best in a dark room, and is supposedly the closest to how a given piece of media was intended to look.

New for 2026 is an AI Soccer Mode, which optimizes the colors of team jerseys and the pitch, and amplifies both crowd and commentator voices — perfect for the FIFA World Cup. There’s also an option that completely cuts out commentary and prioritizes the ambient sounds of the stadium for a more immersive experience.

In practice, I thought this mode worked pretty well, but it oversaturates the screen in my opinion, especially when watching in a dark room. Still, the brightening of the field made it way easier to follow the action, and the audio adjustments did up the immersion factor a bit. I’m not sure I would use it to watch every game due to the overly vivid color saturation, but it’s a worthwhile feature that soccer fans should definitely check out.

Like the S85F, the S85H’s Game Mode is a huge highlight. Turning it on significantly reduces input lag and allows you to turn on helpful features like VRR, mini map zooming, aim reticles, and more. Playing through Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and 007 First Light was a treat — both were shown in stunning detail and color thanks to the S85H’s capabilities, and the former was even able to hit a buttery smooth 120 frames per second.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Test results

Similarly-priced TVs

The Samsung S85H is a high performer amongst its competition in just about every category. While our test results show that it’s actually not as bright as its predecessor, the S85F, in either SDR or HDR brightness, it still beats the LG B6 OLED and gets very close to the SDR brightness of Samsung’s higher-tier S90F.

When we measured the TV’s color accuracy (Delta-E) we saw that the S85H is a decent step up from the S85F. (Remember, the lower the number, the more accurate it is.) While not as accurate as the LG B6 (1.04) and Samsung S90F (1.1), the S85H is on par with both, and the difference between them shouldn’t be noticeable to the naked eye.

The S85H is also great for gaming thanks to its 9.2ms of input latency, which stacks up well against similarly-priced competition (the lower the result, the less lag-time there is between controller inputs and their on-screen responses). Combined with its SDR/HDR brightness, the S85H is a very balanced OLED that lends itself nicely to both gaming and watching content. However, if you do want to upgrade to the Samsung S90F OLED, you’ll get some clear gains in performance, including a class-leading 1,231 nits in peak HDR brightness, better color accuracy, and slightly better input latency performance.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Audio

I didn’t really notice any difference between the audio performance of the S85F and S85H. Unfortunately, neither is great. This is a common issue with stock TV speakers, which is why I always recommend picking up one of the best soundbars to balance out your setup, and if you get a Samsung soundbar, you can use the brand’s Q-Symphony feature that synchronizes your TV’s audio with the soundbar, making for a more immersive experience.

The S85H’s speakers aren’t terrible, but they do sound muffled in general. I had to crank up the volume pretty high to hear anything clearly, but I didn’t notice any crackling or buzzing within the speakers themselves. So, I think you can safely jack the volume up on this TV without doing damage (still, soundbars are the way to go).

The TV does have an AI Amplify mode for audio, which is meant to make spoken dialogue sound clearer. It worked okay in some instances, but in others, it sounded tinny and washed out all other sounds within a given scene. Your mileage may vary, however, so if you’re watching something with subpar sound mixing, you should give it a try.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Interface and apps

Samsung’s Tizen OS has never been my favorite — I prefer the simplicity of Roku’s interface — but the S85H’s interface has received a welcome upgrade in the form of One UI Tizen 2026. It doesn’t perform noticeably faster, but the home screen is more polished and organized, and more AI features have been integrated into the UI, like better personalized content recommendations. Samsung is now promising up to seven years of OS upgrades as well, which is a nice change.

The issues I had with the S85F are improved upon here, thanks to the more intuitive menu navigation pathing. Changing picture modes and swapping between apps feels more natural and less confusing. All in all, One UI Tizen 2026 feels more like “Tizen 2025.5” than a massive upgrade, but I’m happy with the quality-of-life updates that are here.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Remote

The S85H’s remote remains unchanged from the S85F, and I’m totally okay with that. I’m a big fan of Samsung’s streamlined, solar-powered remotes, and there’s not much that needs changing, in my opinion. It has everything you need to navigate the TV’s updated Tizen OS, including dedicated buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Samsung TV Plus, and picture settings.

The only downside is that it’s pretty small, so you’ll have to take care not to lose it between your couch cushions. Maybe in the next iteration, Samsung can include a remote finder — otherwise, not having to swap in fresh batteries all the time remains an awesome perk.

Samsung S85H OLED TV review: Verdict

The S85H delivers great performance, picture quality, and an excellent gaming mode for the price. Its minimalist design will appeal to many, and the new AI Soccer Mode will be a massive asset to soccer … sorry, football fans everywhere. You could save a nice chunk of change by getting last year’s model, but if you want the best that Samsung currently has to offer at this price, the S85H is the way to go.

If you’re looking for an alternative pick, the closest match that we’ve tested is the LG B6 OLED. The S85H beats it in both SDR and HDR brightness, but the B6 is more color accurate, and in my opinion, has a more full-featured gaming mode. If you want to splurge on an upgrade pick, the Samsung S90H would be a great choice, offering way better HDR brightness performance and overall color accuracy. You could really shell out and go for the flagship model, the S95H, if money is no object.

All in all, if you’re in the market for a new OLED but want to maintain a modest budget, the Samsung S85H is a strong choice even with its few shortcomings.

The C5 combines jaw-dropping performance for a much more reasonable price than what you'll find among top-shef, flagship-level OLEDs. In other words, there are a handful of better-performing OLED TVs at Best Buy's 4th of July sale, but none of them pack as much value into the equation.

If you're not hip to this incredible display technology, allow me to catch you up to speed. OLED TVs like the C5 deliver such impressive contrast because, unlike traditional LCD/LED TVs, they don't rely on a backlight. Instead, every single pixel is self-illuminating.

This means that the LG C5 is capable of rendering perfect black levels with no distracting light bloom around bright objects. And, since every pixel is its own source of light, the C5 is able to drive a ton of brightness to very small, concentrated points of light. The result of this surgically precise contrast control is a sense of depth that LED-based TVs can't quite replicate.

Another reason the C5 earned our coveted five-star rating is its robust set of features. As it happens, the C5 arrives with nearly every streaming- and gaming-related feature you'll find on flagship-level TVs on sale at Best Buy.

It supports for 4K/120Hz on current-gen consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 (which is the top 4K spec for these systems), and up to 144Hz with VRR enabled if you link up a gaming PC. It also comes with the newest version of webOS, LG's own streaming software. It's not my top pick for streaming movies and shows, but if you want to avoid buying a separate streaming device, it'll get the job done.

It's unclear whether or not the 65-inch LG C5 will ever return to its Prime Day price of $1,099, but its current price of $1,299 is still a slam-dunk deal. It's my favorite discount at Best Buy's 4th of July sale and it's not even that close.

It’s called RGB OLEDoS — a.k.a. Red Green Blue Organic Light-Emitting Diodes on Silicon or micro-OLED — and Samsung Display has recently designed one that trounces even the best TVs.

The problem? The display in question is only 1.3 inches across and was designed more for mixed-reality headsets like the Apple Vision Pro rather than the next iteration of the Samsung S95H.

Micro-OLED is still a ways off, but it’s still worth caring about

OLEDoS works slightly differently than the OLED you may already own where, instead of depositing the organic materials onto glass, the material goes directly onto a silicon wafer.

RGB OLEDoS takes the already futuristic concept one step further: "Unlike white OLEDoS, RGB OLEDoS does not require a color filter, enabling higher light efficiency and longer lifespan. These advantages make it highly suitable for delivering excellent color reproduction and high brightness," said a Samsung Display representative (via FlatpanelsHD).

While we sadly won’t have a 40,000-nit 65-inch TV in our home anytime soon, RGB OLEDoS is a significant shift forward for display technology. Like TVs, mixed reality headsets need additional brightness to make content look more realistic — because the display sits so close to your face, you’ll notice discrepancies in brightness and colors more quickly.

Or, as the Samsung spokesperson more eloquently put it: “RGB OLEDoS is considered an optimal solution for XR devices, which require sharp image quality in compact and lightweight form factors."

That doesn’t mean OLEDoS won’t ever be practical for TVs — it’s just not the ideal solution right now.

Instead, we’ve got Mini-RGB, a technology that replaces white Mini-LED backlights with smaller, more vibrant RGB LEDs, and QD-OLED that places a quantum dot filter in between the front screen and the OLED substrate. The latter also enables higher brightness and color accuracy, but we’re talking around 2,500 to 3,000 nits — not 40,000.

What TVs currently use QD-OLED and RGB Mini-LED?

We've seen a few iterations of QD-OLED technology before (starting first in the Samsung S95D OLED) but RGB Mini-LED is pretty much brand-new for 2026.

You can find the latter in the new Hisense UR9 as well as the Samsung MR95F Micro-RGB TV while the former can be found in the Samsung S95F and Sony Bravia 8 II.

While it's not quite the same as RGB Mini-LED, TCL's new Super Quantum Dot TVs like the TCL X11L offer bonkers brightness and vibrant color without the help of RGB-colored LEDs.

We'll keep you posted about the future of micro-OLED technology, but in the meantime any of the aforementioned TVs will be a huge step up from the first generation OLEDs we saw from LG and Samsung a decade ago. And some of them are still on sale this week after last week's Amazon Prime Day event...

There's a lot going on right now — I wouldn't blame you if Amazon Prime Day came and went without you checking in about a new TV. Fortunately, Best Buy is running a summertime sales event of its own this week, and it runs all the way through Sunday.

I've pored over hundreds of TV listings at Best Buy's Tech Fest sale, and while there's a slew of dazzling, high-end options over a thousand bucks, my favorite deal of the bunch is a modestly sized, surprisingly affordable OLED TV.

The LG B5 is just $599 at Best Buy this weekend, which matches its lowest Black Friday sale price. As a 2025 model, I don't expect one of my favorite OLED TVs to be around much longer.

Like all OLED TVs, the LG B5 doesn't rely on a backlight. Instead, each one of the display's millions of pixels is self-lit. This eliminates hazy, distracting-looking light bloom and allows for the perfect black levels that have come to be synonymous with the technology.

As an entry-level model, the B5 doesn't get as bright as higher-end LG OLEDs, but its ability to render perfect black levels means that the TV's contrast is much more impressive compared to LCD TVs that offer similar levels of brightness. As long as you're not placing the B5 in a sun-soaked room, its picture will hold up just fine.

According to our test results (which you can peruse in full by way of our LG B5 review), the B5 is remarkably free of color error in its out-of-the-box state. This is one of the reasons I find it to be such an attractive option for bargain-hunters; it's an affordable TV, but it doesn't sacrifice much when it comes to accuracy. Most folks won't need to bother calibrating it.

Another reason I've spent the last several months recommending the B5 to readers is its exhaustive set of features. Despite its entry-level status, the B5 arrives with nearly all of the same gaming- and streaming-related features you'll find on a higher-end LG OLED TVs (like the five-star LG C5).

It's especially good news for dedicated gamers, as they're getting basically everything they need for current-gen consoles. The B5 supports 4K gaming at 120Hz and comes with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), AMD FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility.

Crucially, all four of the LG B5's HDMI inputs offer HDMI 2.1 compatibility. For a $599 TV, that's not exactly easy to come by.

If you need something bigger than 48 inches, the 55-inch LG B5 is just $799 at Best Buy right now, too. Just keep in mind that these sets are currently being replaced by newer models, so your window to buy them at this price is closing.

The Samsung S95H OLED TV might be my favorite flagship from the brand to date. It’s been designed to dominate both light-controlled home theaters and bright living rooms alike, defying the historic limitation that even the best OLED TVs can't handle high ambient light.

Samsung has delivered the brightest OLED TV we’ve ever tested. After hours of watching and gaming on the S95H, I’m confident you can comfortably watch this panel in any environment without worrying about a washed-out image. The combination of raw luminance and an incredibly effective glare-free display keeps the screen looking pristine, no matter the genre.

Alongside the premium picture tech, this set gets integration with Samsung's popular Art Store, allowing the TV to double as a high-end gallery piece when it's not in use. Then there’s a the controversial metal bezel bordering the screen, a feature I thought I’d despise but somehow grew on me — no, really.

While there are a few caveats I’ll note in my following Samsung S95H OLED TV review, overall, I think this set is a striking reminder at just how dominant modern OLED technology can be.

Samsung S95H OLED TV: Price and sizes

The Samsung S95H is positioned as a premium flagship set, and its pricing reflects its status at the top of the brand’s OLED lineup. While official launch pricing varies by size, it commands a top-tier premium:

• 55-inch Samsung S95H OLED (QN55S95HAFXZA): $2,499
• 65-inch Samsung S95H OLED (QN65S95HAFXZA): $3,399
• 77-inch Samsung S95H OLED (QN77S95HAFXZA): $4,499
• 83-inch Samsung S95H OLED (QN55S95HAFXZA): $6,499

I’ll remind you that OLED TVs come in fewer sizes than Mini-LED TVs. That said, if you want Samsung OLED at a lower price and with smaller screen sizes, the Samsung S90H is a compelling alternative. You will lose Art Store access as well as see some shortcomings in performance, detailed in charts further below.

Samsung S95H OLED TV review: Design, ports and connectivity

Samsung has made an… interesting design choice with this TV. It features a non-optional metal bezel that sits behind the screen, making the uniform chassis look like it’s floating off the wall when mounted. That said, you do get a set of sturdy metal feet included, which I used for the sake of this review.

I really thought I would hate the bezel, but I fear it’s grown on me. I can understand it might deter some shoppers but I think it ended up making this TV look as elevated as the picture ultimately proves.

It helps that Samsung no longer requires an external One Connect box by default for its flagship OLED now, too. Instead, the primary inputs are fully integrated directly into the back of the TV. You get 4x HDMI 2.1 inputs built right in with one supporting eARC. (You do have the option to add an external One Connect box separately, which grants an additional 4x HDMI 2.1 inputs on top of the integrated ones.)

Note that there isn’t an ATSC 3.0 tuner to support 4K over-the-air broadcasts. I’d recommend the Sony Bravia 8 II as an alternative OLED with the technology should that be a deal-breaker for you.

How we test TVs

We follow a standard testing protocol for every TV we review at Tom’s Guide. Our benchmarks include a series of technical and subject tests designed to rate the set’s performance.

For our technical tests, we use a Jeti spectraval 1501-HiRes spectroradiometer, a Klein K10-A colorimeter, a Murideo 8K-SIX-G Metal pattern generator, and Portrait Displays’s Calman calibration software to take measurements. Samsung S95H OLED TV review: Performance

The primary storyline of the S95H is its outstanding overall picture quality, fueled by class-leading brightness. Testing scenes from “Top Gun: Maverick,” the sun-drenched nostalgia of the cinematography looked absolutely spectacular. Colors were highly accurate right out of the box, offering a deeply cinematic feel.

That said, Samsung's ongoing refusal to support Dolby Vision remains a point of contention. I always have to add a caveat here, especially when evaluating premium sets: Without Dolby Vision, you lose out on HDR highlights having that extra little bit of "pop" and dynamic refinement. Fortunately, the S95H's native panel brightness is so immense that I almost didn't miss it, but it's still a frustrating omission for purists.

When it comes to gaming, the performance is nothing short of immersive. Diving into Marvel's Spider-Man on PS5, the web-slinger has honestly never looked better. Fast-paced motion was handled brilliantly. Spinning helicopter blades remained perfectly clear, and the contrast and environmental reflections off city skyscrapers looked amazing. I noticed some very slight artifacting during intense, chaotic sequences, but generally, the motion was incredibly smooth. Watching sand flying around during heavy action scenes showed off a spectacular level of graphical pop that bursts right off the screen.

Samsung S95H OLED TV review: Test results

While our objective lab testing confirms that this is the brightest OLED we have ever put through our benchmarking pipeline, the final metrics tell a compelling story against its nearest premium competition.

The most remarkable takeaway from the bench tests is the S95H's staggering HDR brightness, clocking in at 2,721 nits. This draws a definitive line between where the S95H vs. S90H stand in Samsung’s OLED lineup, while also improving on the previous generation S95F's brightness by nearly 30%.

Combined with a blistering 9.7ms input lag and some of the best coverage you’ll find of both the Rec. 709 and BT. 2020 color gamuts, expect to see the S95H used as a point of comparison in many of our TV reviews going forward.

Samsung S95H OLED TV review: Audio

The audio system built into the S95H is pretty good for day-to-day viewing, though it naturally hits a physical limitation. Because the ultra-thin chassis isn’t as spacious as a bookshelf speaker’s, the audio leaves you wanting more when it comes to deep bass performance.

On the plus side, vocal clarity is rock-solid, meaning you won’t struggle to hear dialogue during quiet scenes. That said, to match a picture this elite, I highly recommend adding one of the best soundbars. Staying in-brand with the 2026 Samsung HW-Q990H to access Samsung's Q-Symphony feature makes a lot of sense here, as it allows the TV's integrated drivers to work in tandem with a compatible Samsung soundbar for a wider soundstage, but be prepared to pay a premium for Samsung’s top soundbar.

Samsung S95H OLED TV review: Interface

The S95H runs on the Samsung One UI TV interface, which feels more refined and highly functional than ever. A standout improvement is the navigation bar positioned right up at the top of the screen, which makes it significantly easier to find your apps, inputs, and settings without getting lost in endless menus.

For art lovers, the built-in Art Store is a major perk. It gives you access to a massive library of pieces to display when the TV is idle, turning a giant black rectangle into a focal point for your room. You do need a membership to enjoy it properly, though you can also sync the TV to the SmartThings app and upload your own photos to view.

Otherwise, navigation across the OS feels snappy, and downloading all the best streaming services is quick and painless. I do wish Samsung’s free content platform (Samsung TV Plus) didn’t autoplay with volume on start up, but it does offer a lengthy lineup of ad-supported shows and movies that, again, are totally free.

Samsung S95H OLED TV review: Remote

If I found one glaring flaw in the premium presentation of the S95H, it’s the included remote. For a flagship TV of this price tier, this rechargeable remote feels surprisingly cheap and plasticky in the hand.

Worse yet, it completely lacks a backlight. Finding buttons during a late-night movie session in a dark room becomes a guessing game. While it gets the job done and features standard shortcut options, it feels like an afterthought compared to the highly premium build of the TV itself.

Samsung S95H OLED TV review: Verdict

If your priority is securing unparalleled OLED picture quality that can thrive even in a sun-soaked living room, the Samsung S95H OLED TV is an absolute triumph. It has some noteworthy rivals like the LG G6 OLED, but for most folks, this will be the best TV you can buy in 2026.

Its best-in-class brightness levels and superb “Glare Free” panel make it a versatile beast for movies and gaming alike. You will have to live with a subpar remote and the lack of Dolby Vision support, but if you can look past those complaints, the pure visual horsepower on display here makes it one of the absolute best televisions I believe money can buy.

This week, I've been recommending the LG C5 to anyone shopping for a TV at Amazon's Prime Day sales event. It was the only TV to earn our coveted five-star rating last year for its incredible picture quality and class-leading features, and for most of the week, its sale price of $1,199 represented one of the best Prime Day deals.

But today, on the last day of the sale, its price dropped even further. For a limited time, you can get the 65-inch LG C5 at Amazon for $1,099. It's the cheapest the 65-inch C5 has ever been, and it's not going to stick around at this price for very long.

To put this discount into perspective, consider this: The 65-inch LG B5, an entry-level OLED that doesn't offer the same level of performance, is currently $100 more expensive than the C5.

The LG C5 comes from a long line of award-winning LG C Series OLEDs. Year after year, it's one of the most popular picks among our readers, and it's easy to see why.

OLED TVs like the C5 deliver next-level contrast because they don't rely on a separate, LED-based backlight. Instead, every pixel in the display is self-illuminating, which has a ton of performance-based advantages when compared to a traditional LCD/LED TV.

For one thing, the C5 is capable of perfect black levels, so you won't be distracted by hazy, bluish light bloom around bright objects. Since every pixel provides its own light, the C5 can also direct a ton of brightness to small, concentrated clusters of pixels. During cinematic, HDR content, this surgical contrast control creates a sense of depth that LED TVs can't quite manage.

The LG C5 also comes with a laundry list of features for gaming, streaming and more. It supports for 4K gaming at 120Hz on current-gen consoles (the top 4K spec for these systems), and up to 144Hz with VRR enabled when a gaming PC is hooked up.

In addition, LG’s Game Optimizer mode puts all of the C5's most-useful gaming settings in a convenient quick-menu. Other TVs offer a similar feature, but I find LG's version of a dedicated gaming menu to be the best in the business.

Look, I'll be real with you: It's the last day of Prime Day and Amazon slapped a "Limited Time" badge on this deal. You'll still be able to buy the 65-inch LG C5 for a reasonable, discounted price after today, but I don't know if it'll ever drop back to $1,096 again once this deal expires.

Amazon Prime Day is winding down, but there’s still time to score a last-minute deal on a TV before the event ends. For some of those TVs, it’ll be the last big sale they see.

Take the Samsung S90F, for instance. This showstopping OLED is one of my favorite Samsung TVs, but because it was recently replaced by its successor, the Samsung S90H, today might be your last chance to get your hands on it before its stock runs out.

Right now, the 48-inch Samsung S90F is $797 at Amazon during the last day of Prime Day. It’s the lowest price on record for this modestly sized, mid-range OLED, and it won’t be around forever.

OLED TVs are known for their sensational contrast. Unlike LCD TVs (which rely on some sort of backlight system), every pixel in the S90F's display is self-illuminating. This has some seriously positive impacts on its performance, as self-lit pixels allow for perfect black levels and surgical contrast control.

The S90F may not get as bright as a more-expensive, flagship-level OLED TV, but thanks to its deep, inky black levels, its highlights pop in a way that LCD TVs can't quite replicate. This translates to an incredible sense of visual depth.

One major reason why the S90F is one of my favorite OLED bargains is because it offers almost all of the streaming- and gaming-related features you'll find in higher-end Samsung TVs. The S90F supports 4K gaming at 120Hz (and up to 144Hz when connected to a gaming PC) across all four of its HDMI 2.1-compatible inputs. FreeSync support and G-Sync compatibility are here, as well as Samsung's Gaming Hub software suite.

If the 48-inch S90F is too small for your living space, it's worth noting that the 65-inch Samsung S90F is $1,197 at Amazon right now, which is also the all-time lowest price for that model. As is the case with the 48-inch version, the 65-inch S90F won't be around much longer.

Take it from someone who's been covering the TV business for over ten years: The majority of sets that go on sale during Prime Day are not worth buying.

However, OLED TVs from Samsung, Sony and LG are top of their class for a reason. Thanks to OLED's incredible display technology, they offer perfect black levels, pixel-level contrast control and a host of other performance-related benefits. While OLED TVs may be pricier than most LCD TVs, they make up for it when it comes to picture quality.

My favorite Prime Day OLED deals

1. LG B5

The 48-inch LG B5 is one of the most affordable ways to bring OLED technology into your home, but in order to get it, you need to leave Amazon altogether. The 48-inch version of LG's entry-level B5 is a Best Buy-exclusive model, and right now, it's back down to its Black Friday price of just $599.

Higher-end LG OLEDs will net you better brightness than the B5, you're still getting OLED performance with LG's entry-level set, and that advantage goes a long way. Plus, the B5 offers many of the same bells and whistles as those higher-end sets.

Gamers are getting basically everything they need for current-gen consoles, as the B5 supports 4K gaming at 120Hz and comes with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), AMD FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility. Crucially, all four of the LG B5's HDMI inputs offer HDMI 2.1 compatibility. For a $599 48-inch TV, that's tough to come by.

2. Samsung S90F

The S90F sits between Samsung's entry-level OLED, the S85F, and the flagship-level Samsung S95F. This means that it offers better performance than a more-affordable OLED TV (like the aforementioned LG B5), but still comes in at a friendly price point.

The S90F supports 4K gaming at 120Hz (and up to 144Hz when connected to a gaming PC) across all four of its HDMI 2.1-compatible inputs. FreeSync support and G-Sync compatibility are here, as well as Samsung's Gaming Hub software suite.

Several sizes in the series are on sale this week, but my favorite deal involves the 48-inch S90F. It's currently about $100 cheaper than my next pick, the 42-inch LG C5, despite offering a bigger screen.

3. LG C5

The LG C5 comes from a long line of mid-range OLED TVs whose value is almost as impressive as its performance. In fact, it's the only TV on this list to have received our coveted, five-star rating.

You can read more about this stunning TV in our LG C5 review, but the basic gist is that it's practically overflowing with value, particularly once you factor in its Prime Day sale price. Unlike the previously mentioned Samsung S90F, the C5 is a mid-range OLED that includes Dolby Vision support.

The 42-inch C5 also arrives with just about every feature you could want for gaming and streaming. Its thorough selection of gaming features is a big reason why I keep recommending it to folks in the market for a 42-inch gaming monitor.

4. Sony XR8B

Among our readers, the Sony XR8B has been a popular pick during Prime Day, Cyber Monday and Black Friday sales events for a couple of years now. Don't let its prolonged shelf life stop you from considering it, though — it's one of the most affordable ways to enjoy a Sony-engineered OLED TV in 2026.

Sony's much-lauded picture processing is the highlight here. Other OLED TVs may get brighter and offer better color volume, but even Sony's most-affordable OLEDs are driven by some of the best picture processing capabilities the industry has to offer.

The XR8B comes with plenty of features, too, like support for 4K gaming at 120Hz and the Google TV smart platform.

In tracking all of the best Amazon Prime Day TV deals, I've seen plenty of big-screen TVs on sale. So far, though, there are far fewer deals on TVs below 50 inches — screens that are tailor-made for smaller-sized living spaces.

Prime Day doesn't technically kick off until June 23, but Amazon isn't waiting to start slashing prices on the best TVs from Roku, Insignia, Hisense, Samsung, and more. Whether you're looking for a bigger screen to catch every match of the World Cup or are overdue for upgrading your streaming set-up, these early Prime Day TV deals are well worth a look.

Amazon already has smart TVs starting at just $99 — the lowest prices I've seen outside of Black Friday. My favorite deal right now is the Insignia 55-inch 4K Fire TV for $169. I got one on sale for a few hundred bucks several years ago, and it has stood the test of time. If you're after something even bigger, Insignia 85-inch 4K QLED TV is down to just $659 — a 39% savings. That's an incredible price for an 85-inch TV and easily one of the standout TV deals on the market today.

Among 2026 OLEDs, two sets stand above the rest: the LG G6 and Samsung S95H. These top-shelf TVs harness high-end hardware for brighter, punchier performance than that of entry-level and mid-range OLEDs. They’re also stuffed with features for gaming, streaming and beyond.

You can’t go wrong with either option. While we’re still in the process of formally testing these two sets, both are likely to end up on our list of the best OLED TVs of the year, which puts them on a crash-course with our round-up of the best TVs, period.

That said, there are some key differences between the G6 and S95H that are worth highlighting. Before you plunk down your credit card, let’s take a look at your candidates.

The G6 and S95H achieve an elevated OLED picture in different ways

As top-tier models, the G6 and S95H set themselves apart from lower-end OLED TVs with higher-performing hardware. Both technologies aim to improve brightness, color and other aspects of picture quality, but how they get there is entirely different.

The G6 leverages LG Display's newest RGB Tandem OLED panel. Its unique structure allows for higher brightness, in both highlight detail and across the whole image. This panel also delivers more voluminous color than what we typically see with standard WOLED panels (like the one found on the LG C6).

The newest version of RGB Tandem OLED is guided by LG's processing. Together, these hardware and software elements make up a feature that LG is calling Hyper Radiant Color Technology.

The S95H, on the other hand, makes use of Samsung Display's quantum dot-enhanced OLED (QD-OLED) panel in its 55-, 65- and 77-inch variants. (Interestingly, the 83-inch S95H taps LG Display's RGB Tandem OLED panel.)

As the name suggests, the S95H leverages quantum dots for brighter, purer color than standard WOLED displays. On average, they also tend to be brighter than garden-variety, non-RGB Tandem panels, too.

Currently, the only TV technology that matches or exceeds the color volume measurements we've taken to date is RGB LED. This makes QD-OLED TVs like the Samsung S95H a great pick for people who are chasing eye-popping color.

Here's the main takeaway: Thanks to their advanced engineering, both the LG G6 and S95H offer some of the brightest OLED performance to date. However, due to the inherent benefits of quantum-dot color, I expect the S95H to offer better HDR color volume than the LG G6.

Based on past performance, it's also likely that the G6's white highlight brightness will be slightly higher than the S95H during HDR content.

The G6 and S95H offer unique designs

One of the most noticeable differences between these sets can be seen in each brand’s distinct approach to designing a flagship-level OLED TV. To a certain extent, the G6 and S95H put design front and center, each offering a unique spin on high-end luxury.

Like its predecessors, the LG G6 is designed with wall-mounting in mind. Its panel isn’t quite as wafer-thin as other LG OLEDs, but the added depth allows a uniform profile that sits flush against the wall. There’s barely a bezel, and an elegant, metallic finish wraps around the outside of the TV.

You can attach a stand to the G6 and forgo wall-mounting altogether, but you’ll need to purchase the G6's stand separately. Out of the box, the G6 comes with a flush wall mount.

Samsung's top OLED is also designed for wall-mounting, but the S95H features one of the boldest design elements for a TV that I’ve come across in years: a wide, metal frame, upon which the OLED screen appears to float.

When I spent an afternoon with the all-new S95H (seen above), it was wall-mounted in a living room-like staging area to emphasize the frame. While it won’t be everyone's cup of tea, it's worth noting how much more natural the S95H's framed display appears in a wall-mounting configuration compared to a table-top setup.

On that note, there are a pair of narrow feet included with the S95H, should you opt to place it on a media console or credenza. Just be aware of the fact that the metal frame is non-negotiable.

Another non-negotiable design element? For a third year in a row, Samsung's flagship OLED screen is sporting a matte-style, glare-free finish. The G6 features a glossy screen, though LG has gone to great lengths to tamp down on glare with a robust, anti-reflective coating.

This means that the debate between matte or glossy OLED screens will continue into 2026. I find that Samsung's glare-free finish does a remarkably good job at blunting the impact of direct glare, but with an average amount of ambient light in play, the matte-style screen also raises the TV's black levels, limiting visual depth.

The G6's screen is no slouch when it comes to limiting direct glare, but it's not quite as adept as the S95H. Nevertheless, in average lighting conditions, the G6's glossy screen creates a deeper, inkier look.

Dolby Vision and other HDR formats

Like all Samsung TVs, the S95H does not support Dolby Vision, an enhanced HDR format that leverages dynamic metadata to optimize the picture on a frame-by-frame basis, thus keeping with the creator's intent. Instead, the S95H supports HDR10+, a royalty-free alternative that works in a similar fashion. The LG G6, however, does support Dolby Vision.

Another thing to note: The S95H is one of the first Samsung TVs to arrive with HDR10+ Advanced. In the coming years, his new HDR format is set to compete with Dolby Vision 2. However, the LG G6 does not support Dolby Vision 2.

LG G6 vs Samsung S95H: outlook

There are other differences between these two TVs, of course. They're built around entirely different software experiences, for instance, each offering its own user experience.

But beyond that, they're quite similar. Both flagship OLEDs come with arguably the most thorough selection of gaming features money can buy, and even in a side-by-side comparison, their individual performance is jaw-droppingly good.

Choosing between the LG G6 and Samsung S95H comes down to three questions:

1. Which TV's design is better for your home?

2. Do you care about the S95H's added color volume?

3. Do you need Dolby Vision support on your next TV?

If you can answer these questions for yourself, you're well on your way to choosing between these two incredible TVs.

After six months of lab testing the year's newest TVs, it has become clear that the best TVs of 2026 are pushing brightness and color accuracy to new heights. Today’s flagship TVs from Hisense and TCL deliver good performance, thanks in large part to a backlight technology called Mini-RGB that’s changing the game for picture quality.

Yet Sony isn't sitting on the sidelines. Its new "True RGB" technology also promises independently controlled red, green, and blue LEDs under the display panel but, according to Sony, offers “purer color expression, improved light steering, and ultra-wide viewing angles.” The best part? You don’t need to empty your pockets to get a taste. Despite it being used in the flagship Bravia 9 II sibling, you can get it on the Bravia 7 II at a lower price.

But does Sony’s new tech actually live up to the hype? After putting the Sony Bravia 7 II through our rigorous lab testing workflow and spending two days watching real-world content, the results didn’t blow my expectations out of the water, but I’m still very impressed.

Sony Bravia 7 II review: Pricing and availability

The Bravia 7 II is $300 more than the starting price of the 65-inch Sony Bravia 7 we reviewed in 2025. Pricing for the Sony Bravia 7 II starts at $1,600 / AU$2,699 for the 50-inch variant, and goes as high as $9,000 / AU$12,999 for the 98-inch model.

The 65-inch review unit we have comes in at $2,600 / AU$3,999. Sony’s flagship Bravia 9 II costs $3,600 / AU$5,999, so if you buy the Bravia 7 II, you can save an extra $1,000 / AU$2,000. Stepping down means sacrificing a handful of dimming zones, the anti-glare features, and slightly more premium audio features — but these compromises aren’t so bad given the price difference.

That said, the 7 II is venturing close to OLED pricing territory. The LG C6 OLED currently sits at $2,700, while the LG B6 costs roughly $2,000. TCL’s RGB offering, the QM8L, has a price tag of $3,000 for the 75-inch model while the Hisense UR9 costs $2,000 for a 65-inch screen after the nearly unheard of $1,500 discount it received immediately after launch.

Sony Bravia 7 II review: Design and ports

The Sony Bravia 7 II immediately felt different to me the moment I took it out of the box, largely due to its redesigned center-facing stand. As part of the setup, you slot a clear glass-like sheet into the front of the stand. Sony calls this the “Mirage Stand.” This helps hide the cables that might be behind the TV. It also helps light and color pass through.

The assembly was easy, involving building out both sides of the base, and then simply sliding the entire TV into place and fastening it with screws. Compared to my experience with setting up other TVs, the setup feels remarkably seamless. I wish other manufacturers would embrace this approach. The trade-off is that, on the sides, the Bravia 7 II is still slightly thick, similar to other RGB TVs in this class.

The other issue besides its thickness is that Sony skimped out on ports: On the left side of the TV, there are four HDMI ports, just like last year’s model, but two of them are the older HDMI 2.0b standard. (HDMI 1 and 2 are HDMI 2.0b, while HDMI 3 and 4 are HDMI 2.1.)

Those HDMI ports are all in addition to the two USB ports, optical audio out, S-Center speaker in, Ethernet, RS-232C remote, IR in, and a spot for a coaxial cable.

Finally, around the back, the non-detachable power cable is on the right rear. In that same area, Sony also gives you a spot to clip that cable to better help manage wires. The TV can be wall-mounted using the VESA holes on the back panel, should you prefer that.

My biggest gripe with the 7 II’s design is that, for this price, it should have HDMI 2.1 ports standard. If you own multiple game consoles like I do, you’ll only be able to fully enjoy them at 120Hz on two of this TV's four ports. It’s not a deal breaker, but it is a small disappointment.

How we test

Our TV review process at Tom's Guide for TVs is rigorous, but standardized. In our New York City test lab, my lab assistant and I test every TV across SDR and HDR benchmarks using the industry standard 10% window.

To ensure we are seeing the director's true vision, we switch the TV over to Filmmaker Mode which is typically the most color-accurate setting available. We also disable any AI features, Eco Mode, and any intrusive ambient light sensors that could impact readings.

We use the Jeti spectraval 1501-HiRes spectroradiometer to profile our Klein K10-A colorimeter. Once profiled, this high-end hardware works in tandem with a Murideo 8K-SIX-G Metal pattern generator and a custom workflow in Portrait Displays Calman Ultimate software to map out the TV’s performance.

For gaming performance, we use a Leo Bodnar 4K Video Signal Lag Tester to measure exactly how responsive the TV really is. Once technical lab testing is done, we put the TV through subjective testing using a curated selection of films and shows. For more on this process, read our “How we test TVs” guide.

Sony Bravia 7 II review: Performance and test results

HDR performance is where the Bravia 7 II comes into its own league, with the peak brightness reaching 2,077 nits with our 10% test window. This is far ahead of what we've seen on OLED TVs like LG C6 and nearly double that of the original Bravia 7 model. However, it’s overshadowed by the Hisense UR9 and TCL QM8L.

When watching scenes in HDR from “The Batman” on our lab’s Blu-ray player, I immediately noticed the highlights from headlights and explosions against the shadows of the night. Yet despite all of this, the black in Batman’s suit and the Batmobile remained true.

Streaming “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Ghost War” on Amazon Prime, my initial impressions were corroborated: The TV rendered some really deep blacks and precisely managed highlights, ensuring that the riverside lamps in the introductory sequence showed absolutely no blooming against a black dark sky. This carried over into the film's climactic final battle, where even in dark night scenes, I could not spot any light bleed around the vibrant orange muzzle flashes or the crisp white LED signs on a building set against the dark night.

For SDR performance, Bravia TVs come with conservative brightness settings out of the box. As a result, SDR brightness measured just 100 nits in our lab testing for the TV’s best picture mode. This is significantly lower than competitors like the Hisense UR9, TCL QM8L, LG C6, and Samsung QN90. However, I do want to be clear this is no fault of the TV — Sony has a long standard of prioritizing accuracy and a true-to-Hollywood look over pure brightness in its Professional mode. Targeting 100 nits of brightness isn’t a bug to Sony. It’s a feature.

That said, your mileage will vary on how much you enjoy Professional mode. I watched a nature video of Norway on YouTube and the whites in the water lacked intensity and weren’t as bright as I hoped. Playing around with the various options in Sony’s new My Cinema presets in the settings menu optimized the SDR brightness to better suit my eyes.

Additional presets can optimize content from Netflix or Amazon Prime, but I found that switching to the standard Cinema Mode improved brightness better, pushing peaks closer to 750 nits. To be fair, Sony gives you full control and explains the various picture modes out of the box during setup, so it’s easy to change things around if you aren’t happy with the out-of-the-box settings.

So where does it falter? We measured a Delta-E of 4.79, which suggests the Bravia 7 II isn’t the strongest performer in color accuracy compared to the LG C6 or Samsung QN90F. (We reached out to Sony for clarification on why it’s higher than average and are still awaiting a response.)

Lab numbers don't always account for what the human eye can perceive through Sony's image processing. This means that sometimes a TV can still look good; personally, I felt that the TV delivered natural, balanced tones that you actually look for in real world-viewing. In SDR content like a NYC subway walkthrough on YouTube, faces still appeared lifelike.

The Bravia 7 II did not give the faces a cooler, washed-out look many other TVs in its class might produce. Similarly, in “Blade Runner 2049” on Blu-ray, the Las Vegas sequence kept true to the film’s orange hue without oversaturating natural skin tones.

Side viewing angles on this TV were impressive across all the content I watched, thanks to Sony’s X-wide Angle Pro technology. After moving my seat to both sides of the TV and rewatching the same scenes I mentioned earlier from “Blade Runner 2049,” “The Batman,” and “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Ghost War,” picture quality remained consistently strong. I didn’t notice any bleed or loss in color or brightness. This is an area where many non-OLED displays typically struggle, but the Bravia 7 II held up well.

Sony Bravia 7 II review: Gaming

Gaming performance on the Bravia 7 II is a big jump from the Bravia 7: We measured input lag at 10.4ms, a huge step up from the 17.1ms from the Bravia 7 — and more in line with what we’ve seen with other 2026 TVs.

I played Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on the PlayStation 5 and had no issues. Controls felt tight and responsive during fast-paced fights where Batman and Robin took on street-level crime. There was almost no noticeable delay between my inputs and what I saw on the screen.

Since this is a Sony TV, there are added benefits when you pair it with a PS5: Auto HDR Tone Mapping lets you skip the HDR optimization you usually have to go through in most games.

But just be careful about which port you choose. If you connect to either HDMI 2.1 port on the TV, the Bravia 7 II will give you that sweet and smooth 120Hz refresh rate, support for variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low-latency mode (ALLM). Pairing it with one of the two aforementioned HDMI 2.0 ports could result in the loss of some of this functionality.

Sony Bravia 7 II review: Sound

The built-in speakers on the Bravia 7 II are surprisingly pleasing. With a side-firing design, all the speakers are at ear level across the screen. This means dialogue and effects project clearly into the room rather than feeling trapped on the TV’s stand.

In action content like “The Batman” and “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Ghost War,” voices in films and shows were easy to follow even during more chaotic scenes. Rain, gunfire, and the orchestral score never broke the immersion that I experienced.

Interestingly, a step during the TVs setup process allows you to optimize the acoustics for viewing. Sit in front of the TV with the remote, and the TV will measure the sound levels in the room. This feature is great if you want to get the most out of the TV’s sound.

Sony Bravia 7 II review: Smart TV and remote

The remote isn’t the only part of the TV with a built-in microphone — there’s one built right into the TV. I’ve always found voice remotes awkward, having to hold the whole remote to my face just to speak to the TV, so this always-ready mic made searching and getting recommendations feel more natural and hands-free. And don’t worry, it can be quickly muted using a physical slider on the bottom left of the TV for added privacy.

Tying the whole system together is the Google TV smart platform whose interface remains clean and easy to navigate. No matter what I asked it, Google’s Gemini integration helped surface content across all my streaming apps in the more conversational, “ask a friend” style that I wish Siri on my Apple TV at home could do a better job with. It’s one of the best streaming TV platforms for a reason.

The remote design is largely unchanged from last year, still with its familiar plastic finish and blue-speckled detailing. Aside from swapping the arrangement of a few buttons, Sony has added a new favorites button that lets you quickly jump to a preferred streaming app and there’s also a handy remote-finder feature should you lose it. (Pressing the power button on the TV can trigger a buzzer on the remote if it gets lost.) This is a small — but genuinely useful — touch for those moments where your remote might get lost in the sofa.

Sony Bravia 7 II review: Verdict

Though it sits below the Bravia 9 II, the Sony Bravia 7 II still has solid HDR performance. It brings bright highlights, deep shadows, and impressively clean blacks with virtually no blooming thanks to its standout “True RGB” backlight. It also has a few upgrades from its predecessor — like the stand — that make it worth upgrading to if you own the original Bravia 7.

Its conservative SDR brightness can look dim in everyday viewing, however, and its higher-than-average pricing also pushes it close to more color-accurate OLED territory. Unless it’s Black Friday or Cyber Monday, you shouldn’t expect to see major discounts on it, either.

If the so-called “Sony Tax” is too steep for you, you might want to consider the often-on-sale LG C6 OLED or even last year’s C5 OLED, Tom’s Guide’s TV of the Year.

If you’re unfazed by the sticker price, the Bravia 7 II is a stand-out TV that I would recommend to folks who want an early look at an RGB TV’s benefits without shelling out for the Bravia 9 II.

LG — maker of some of the best OLED TVs on the market — has officially launched its newest OLED lineup for 2026. The LG C6 is the brand's mid-range model, and it comes with pedigree. The C Series has been a perennial best TV-contender for several years, and it's easy to see why. Like the C Series OLEDs that came before it, the C6 blends incredible performance with a relatively reasonable price tag — a blend that results in mass appeal.

The LG B6 is the brand's entry-level OLED. Like previous iterations of the B Series, the LG B6 offers a more modest performance profile in exchange for a much lower price than its C-Series sibling. I've spent a ton of time with both of these OLEDs, and as we do with all TVs we review, we've tested both extensively. Here's how their performance, features and price compare.

LG C6 vs LG B6: Specs compared

First, let's talk about size availability. The C6 is available in 42-, 48-, 55- and 65-inch options. There are also 77- and 83-inch versions, but these sizes are technically classified as an altogether different model: the LG C6H.

We haven't tested the C6H yet, but LG promises better performance on these sets than what you'll see on the smaller-sized C6 screens, since they arrive with LG Display's RGB Tandem OLED panel, which typically delivers better brightness and color volume than traditional WOLED panels.

For the B6, available size options are a complicated matter, too. It's readily available at retailers in just three sizes: 65, 77 and 83 inches. LG lists a 48-inch version of the B6 on its website, but you might have a difficult time tracking it down. I expect a 55-inch version of the B6 to be made available soon, but at the time of publishing, it's missing in action.

So, if you want a 77- or 83-inch C6, you'll technically have to buy the C6H. Alternatively, if you're considering a 48- or 55-inch B6, you'll have to wait for those sets to be made available.

In almost every other way that will matter to most people, the C6 and B6's spec sheets are the same. Both TVs offer the same selection of enhanced HDR formats (including Dolby Vision). Both arrive with the same version of LG's webOS streaming platform and support HDMI 2.1 across all four primary inputs.

Neither offers ATSC 3.0 support (which allows over-the-air broadcasts to be piped-in at native-4K resolution), and while it's not an easy feature to come by in 2026, its absence is nevertheless a bummer.

Each of these OLEDs can take advantage of the highest 4K spec available on current-gen consoles (4K/120Hz), but only the C6 is capable of pushing that to 4K/165Hz when VRR is enabled and a gaming rig is linked up. It's a close finish, but the C6 features a better spec sheet.

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs LG B6: Design

The C6 (seen above) follows the design approach of its predecessor (the LG C5), but that's good news for folks who dig sleek, sophisticated TV design. Its downward-slanting slab of a stand keeps the TV's screen relatively close to the surface beneath it. And, while it's rare to peek at the back of a TV, I appreciate the marble-like finish on the back of the C6's panel.

If you're planning to wall-mount the C6, take note: The TV's hardware is housed in a chassis that sticks out of the C6's midsection. This means that the TV's wafer-thin screen won't be flush against the wall.

The B6 (seen above) will also protrude from the wall a bit, should you decide to mount it. But, according to my measurements, the B6 is almost exactly as narrow as the C6 at the 65-inch size point, so you're dealing with a similarly sized chassis.

The B6 is also rocking a slate-like visual texture along the back of its panel, but you'll find that the look and feel of the C6's materials are marginally more premium-seeming than that of the B6.

Unlike the C6, the B6's stand consists of a pair of slim, angular feet that sit close to the corners of the screen. They're sturdy enough so as not to introduce much wobble, but the wide-set placement of the feet might be tough to accommodate if you've got a narrow credenza or media console — especially at larger size points.

Both TVs arrive with a similar version of of LG's remote control. It features the same motion-activated, Wii-like controls you'll find on older versions of the Magic Remote, but the updated design is slimmer and offers fewer buttons.

Despite its entry-level status, the B6 is a sleek customer. The C6's design is just a touch more put together.

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs LG B6: Performance

Before we dive into which of these TVs is the better performer, let's compare their test results. (Both TVs were in their respective Filmmaker picture mode when these tests were taken.)

Naturally, these TVs both deliver the key features that OLED TVs are known for: perfect black levels with pixel-level contrast control.

With OLED technology at work, both the C6 and B6 offer an deep, detail-rich image that looks fantastic across all content types and downright cinematic during 4K/HDR content. The key difference between their picture comes down to brightness and color.

The mid-range C6 taps LG's OLED evo technology, a mix of hardware- and software-related enhancements that allows for a brighter image (particularly in highlight detail), as well as richer color (especially during HDR-mastered movies and shows).

You'll notice the C6's added brightness most when viewing the glint of a sword, dapples of sunlight across the ocean's surface or whenever tiny pools of bright light take over a cluster of pixels. The pixel-level contrast control allows for realistic highlights on both OLEDs, but on the C6, these details are much more impactful in HDR.

The C6 is also a touch brighter than the B6 across the entire picture, but the difference in full-field brightness isn't as significant as the gap between these TVs' peak HDR highlight brightness.

Colors are well-saturated and accurately dialed-in on both of these TVs' most-accurate picture mode. However, the C6's added brightness allows it to saturate more color, and this is especially impactful during HDR-mastered content.

What we're left with is a pair of high-performance TVs, with the pricier of the two being the better option for people chasing as much brightness as possible before stepping up into the flagship-level class.

The B6 produces a phenomenal picture, but there's no denying that the C6's picture is often more cinematic, and better overall for bright-room viewing. It's up to you to determine whether that jump in quality warrants the added price.

LG C6 vs B6: Smart platform and features

Both the C6 and the B6 come with the newest version of LG's webOS ready to go right out of the box. It's a similar experience to last-year's version of webOS, but LG has built in some new, AI-based features. My colleague Dylan Haas, who reviewed the C6, referred to these AI features as "meaningless" if you don't already incorporate AI into your daily life, and I'm inclined to agree.

As far as built-in smart platform software goes, webOS isn't one of my top picks. I find its layout to be visually confusing and navigation to be somewhat sluggish. However, it's easy enough to pick up and use that most folks will see no problem using it as their daily driver.

As far as gaming features go, the C6 and B6 are quite similar. Each offers HDMI 2.1-compatibility across all four inputs (which means you don't have to spend time thinking about which port any given device should use), but as mentioned, only the C6 supports 4K games above 120Hz.

Technically speaking, the C6 offers more in the way of features. But, for the vast majority of people, these sets are basically the same when it comes to the software experience and added features.

Winner: Draw

LG C6 vs B6: Verdict

Relative to one another, the C6 and B6 score similarly in the design and features category, with their overall user experience being remarkably similar. When we take a closer look at specs and picture quality, we start to get a better sense of how these sets diverge.

The C6 is a brighter, more-colorful TV that will showcase HDR content better than the B6. It'll also hold up slightly better during daytime viewing. This is especially true for the souped-up, 77- and 83-inch versions of the C6H.

At the time of publishing, the C6 is quite pricey. The 65-inch LG C6 is $2,699 at Best Buy, and while that number will almost certainly tumble as the year goes on, it's still relatively high for a mid-range TV.

Saving money on the B6 might be a good move if all you're looking for is a brand-new OLED TV. The 65-inch LG B6 is $1,899 at Best Buy right now, which is substantially cheaper than the C6. That said, if you're after a 55-inch screen, you'll have to wait. More sizes options for the B6 are presumably still on the way, but for now the selection is rather limited.

I spend most of the year testing and reviewing the newest TVs from brands like LG, Hisense and Samsung. But when a major sales event like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Amazon Prime Day rolls around, I swap my TV-testing cap for a deals-hunting hat.

On the eve of Amazon's biggest sale of the year, I typically tell folks to keep two things in mind: The best TV deals tend to be attached to year-old models, and many of those deals are available days before Prime Day even begins.

With this in mind, I spent my week tracking all of the top TV deals available at Amazon ahead of Prime Day and plucked out the nine worth shopping. There's something here for every budget, including my favorite deal of the bunch, the 55-inch Roku Plus Series for just $368.

My top early Prime Day TV deals

Across the web, rumors are swirling about a brand-new Sony OLED TV dubbed the Bravia 6. It shouldn't come as a shock, considering the lack of an entry-level OLED in Sony's current Bravia lineup, and the Bravia 6 could very well be the LG C6 rival we've been waiting for.

Sony makes some of the best TVs on the market — and this could be its most exciting model yet. Here's what we know about it so far.

Sony Bravia 6: everything we know so far

I first came across Bravia 6 speculation via a report at FlatpanelsHD, who in turn cited High Def News on X (formerly Twitter). That post came as a result of a post on the AVS Forum message board.

Despite this game of telephone, the facts on the ground remain rather simple: Sony has registered the Bravia 6 namesake across several online databases.

On Sony's own website, Bravia 6 model numbers (seen below) are listed as being compatible with select wall-mounting brackets.

Interestingly, the Bravia 6 appears as though it'll be available in a similar size range as two of its rivals' most popular OLED TVs (the LG C6 and the Samsung S90H). This particular range of sizes would also indicate that the Bravia 6 will, at the very least, feature some WOLED-based panels, since we've yet to QD-OLED panels (manufactured by Samsung Display) in 48- and 83-inch sizes.

However, it's unclear whether all of the sizes in the Bravia 6 series would feature LG Display's standard WOLED panels, or just some of them.

Bear in mind that LG Display manufacturers different subtypes of WOLED panels, too. RGB Tandem WOLED panels are engineered for better brightness and color, and therefore tend to be attached to higher-end OLED TVs.

And then there's OLED SE, a new type of WOLED panel from LG Display that has already made its way into a more-affordable class of OLED TVs in 2027. The Bravia 6 could conceivably tap this OLED type, too.

Knowing what type of OLED panel the Bravia 6 uses could tell us more about its possible price range. Alternatively, knowing the Bravia 6's price range could reveal more about its panel tech. With neither piece in place, this is all very much up in the air.

Will the Bravia 6 go head to head with the LG C6?

This is the million-dollar question.

While LG and Samsung have offered annual, similarly structured OLED lineups with entry-level, mid-range and high-end options, Sony's Bravia OLED series have only a limited number of options.

For example, the Bravia 8 OLED that launched in 2024, spent much of its life living alongside the higher-end, quantum dot-equipped Sony A95L OLED.

In 2025, the Bravia 8's successor — the Bravia 8 II — incorporated quantum dots, elevating it closer to the A95L's higher-end stratum.

But, so far in 2026, Sony has yet to confirm the existence of a new OLED TV, and currently, all three of these higher-end Sony-branded OLEDs are sitting on shelves simultaneously.

For the Bravia 6 to compete with mid-range OLEDs like the LG C6 and the Samsung S90H, it wouldn't necessarily need to be Sony's mid-range model per se; it would only need to hover around the same price point as its rivals.

Hopefully Sony isn't backing away from OLED anytime soon. It was worrying that the brand was content to leave its current OLED lineup on shelves for another calendar year — but, if real, the Bravia 6 would prove that Sony still sees a place for OLED alongside its True RGB TVs like the Bravia 7 II and 9 II.

Here's some good news: LG, makers of some of the best OLED TVs money can buy, has launched three new OLEDs for 2026 — the flagship-level G6, the mid-range C6 OLED and the LG B6.

In recent years, the mid-range C Series has been one of the most popular TVs among our readers due to its high-level performance and its relatively low price compared to the brand's top-shelf G Series. At the same time, the entry-level B Series has been one of the best-value TVs on shelves. And now, the B Series is better than ever.

This year, the LG B6 earned our four-and-a-half-star rating for its excellent performance, sleek design and a thorough set of features. In fact, I dig the B6 so much that I think it's a better choice than the C6 for most people.

LG B6 vs C6: performance and specs

Before we dive into the differences between their spec sheets, let's take a look at how the B6 and C6 compare when it comes to performance. Bear in mind that these tests were carried out with both TVs set to LG's Filmmaker mode.

The first thing that ought to jump out at you is the difference in brightness. Yes, the C6 is significantly brighter than the B6 in both SDR and HDR. However, in a side-by-side comparison, most viewers would be more inclined to notice the difference when it comes to specular highlights (tiny pools of bright, highly intense light).

During run-of-the-mill SDR content — that is to say, cable TV, most streaming shows, YouTube videos and over-the-air broadcasts — the C6 only delivers a slightly brighter, full-screen presentation.

The C6 is undoubtedly the better option for brighter-than-average living rooms, but its added HDR highlight brightness is where the major difference is.

The C6 delivers better HDR color volume, but the difference here isn't as significant as what you would see moving from the C6 up to LG's flagship OLED, the G6. However, an important caveat to this is that the 77- and 83-inch versions of the C6 feature a similar, premium-level OLED panel as the higher-end G6.

The B6's test results — as well as my own eyes — tell me that it's an excellent compromise for budget-conscious shoppers who nevertheless want to live the OLED lifestyle. If your living room isn't soaked in sunlight, the B6 will get the job done.

In terms of specs, they're quite similar. The C6 arrives with a higher refresh rate (up to 165Hz versus 120Hz on the B6), but this really only concerns the crowd that intends to link up their TV to a gaming PC.

LG B6 vs C6: price and outlook

If the B6's relatively similar performance profile hasn't swayed you, perhaps a look at these TVs' respective prices will do the trick. Here's how each series shakes out at the time of publishing:

The LG B6 is currently only available in 65-, 77- and 83-inch sizes, but that likely won't be the case for very long. Recently, a 48-inch B6 was listed on LG's website, and in recent years, a 48-inch B Series OLED has typically been made available at Best Buy. And, while I'm surprised that there isn't a 55-inch version of the LG B6 available yet, I'm willing to bet that one will hit shelves before year's end.

Unless you're truly worried about missing out on the C6's added brightness and color, saving money on the B6 is the move I recommend most people make.

If you're in the market for an even flashier OLED experience, the 77- and 83-inch versions of the C6 (otherwise known as the LG C6H) might be worth considering. We've yet to test the C6H in either its 77- or 83-inch variant, but due to the inclusion of LG Display's RGB Tandem OLED panel, I expect an even brighter, more-colorful presentation than the 42- to 65-inch versions of the C6.

Of course, if you really want to be as savvy as possible with your spending, you ought to consider the LG B5, the B6's predecessor from 2025. I recently compared the LG B6 versus the B5 and, while the newer B6 offers a slightly punchier picture, they're nearly identical in almost every other way that matters to the average viewer.

TVs are complicated. As a result, the TV business sometimes seems at odds with itself. Brands are eager to impress with their latest technological innovations, but the competitive nature of the industry often fosters misinformation.

I’ve been covering TVs for over 10 years, reviewing everything from budget models to the best TVs in the world. Throughout this time, I can’t help but have noticed a handful of myths that haven’t gone away.

Some of these misconceptions could end up costing you money. Others might land you a less-capable TV. Let’s bust these myths.

1. TV brightness matters more than anything else

In the world of TVs, few metrics are weighed as heavily as brightness. It’s easy to measure, easy to boast about with numbers, and most importantly, easy for people to understand. But while certainly important, brightness isn’t the be-all, end-all yardstick for picture quality.

Brightness matters as it relates to your ability to see the picture. Naturally, if your living room gets a ton of sunlight, buying a bright-enough TV is important. The TV needs to compete with ambient light in order for the picture to pop.

However, when we use the word “pop,” what we’re really talking about is contrast. Contrast describes the difference between the darkest parts of the picture and the brightest.

A high-contrast picture offers more depth, making it appear more real to our eyes. This is why contrast — not brightness alone — is the main ingredient in a visually appealing picture.

A TV that gets extremely bright has a distinct advantage over a dimmer model, since its picture will hold up better during the day and have a head start with the lights off. But many TVs — especially the best OLED TVs — deliver better contrast (and a better overall picture) than rival sets that achieve higher brightness.

It’s all relative. Since the pixels on an OLED TV are self-lit, they’re capable of producing perfect black levels and controlling the brightness on a pixel-by-pixel basis. As a result, the brighter parts of the picture look even brighter. OLED TVs, in other words, don’t have to get as bright as LED TVs in order for our eyes to perceive them as being brighter.

Another way to look at this is that 1,000 nits of highlight brightness on an OLED TV looks much brighter than 1,000-nit highlights on an LED TV, and it’s all thanks to OLED’s ability to get consistently darker.

This is one of the reasons we often recommend entry-level OLED TVs over their similarly priced, LED-based rivals. The LG B5, for instance, offers modest brightness compared to most mid-range LED TVs, but its OLED-driven picture allows for better overall contrast than most of those LED-based sets.

I’ve seen searingly bright TVs that look worse than models half as luminous. I’ve also seen equally bright TVs that look drastically different thanks to matters of color, picture processing and more.

When shopping for a TV, it’s worth researching brightness and having a good handle on how a TV might hold up in whatever room you’re putting it in. But it’s also worth avoiding the mindset that brighter equals better.

2. Because of burn-in, OLED TVs don’t last as long as LED TVs

For the majority of my career, I’ve not (and will likely won’t) be concerned about burn-in on an OLED TV.

To be clear, the burn-in effect — in which a ghostly after-image is permanently seared into the picture after long-term use — is very much real. But in all likelihood, you don’t need to worry about it.

OLED’s reputation for burn-in makes sense when you consider that the display technology is, in many ways, the spiritual successor to plasma. Way back when, plasma TVs did run the risk of burn-in — even more so than the OLED TVs that took their place.

And while the earliest consumer-ready OLED TVs were susceptible to burn-in, over a decade of high-level engineering has all but solved the problem entirely for the vast majority of viewers.

These days, unless you spend several hours a day watching the same type of content (or using your OLED TV as a computer monitor), you really don't need to worry about static images burning their way into the screen. If you use an OLED TV, be on the lookout for things like on-screen logos, news chyrons and sports tickers. Any elements that are on the screen for long periods of time are potentially problematic, but only if you’re spending a ton of time with them up there.

All newer OLED TVs come with a variety of tools to prevent burn-in, and most of these processes happen automatically in the background. LG OLEDs, for instance, offer the following: Pixel Cleaning (which can be run manually or set to an automatic timer), Screen Move (which subtly shifts the display occasionally in order to shake up the pixels) and Adjust Logo Brightness (which automatically detects on-screen logos and throttles their brightness).

You can find similar settings on Samsung and Sony OLEDs, and all of the major OLED-makers come with optional screensavers, too.

3. There are still ‘dumb TVs’ worth buying

Many folks yearn for the halcyon days of TV ownership, where the newest sets weren't saddled with busy, ad-filled software and constantly connected to the internet. Unfortunately, those days are very much in the rearview mirror.

TV brands make a ton of money from the ad revenue associated with smart TVs. Like much of the tech industry, various entities also profit off of smart TV user data. The longer that money comes in, the more incentivized TV-makers are to maintain the status quo.

So-called "dumb TVs" technically still exist, but the vast majority of them are either manufactured by companies I don't recommend, or they're barebones, rudimentary displays intended for commercial use.

4. Expensive HDMI cables are always better

Take it from someone who’s been juggling various types of TV cables for years: As long as you buy the right bandwidth, you really don't need fancy HDMI cables for your TV.

There's no shortage of overpriced cables out there, but the advantages of silver-, bronze-, or gold-plated cables are mostly aesthetic. You won't notice a difference in picture quality between a gold-plated cable and a basic cable, provided they’re rated for the same features.

Now, you might decide that a braided cable feels more reliable, or you might just appreciate how the look of a more premium cable blends in with the rest of your A/V equipment. If this sounds like you, feel free to splash out — just don’t expect to get a better picture in the process.

Is your TV limited to HDMI 2.0 inputs? 18-Gbps HDMI cables are good enough for your needs.

Does your TV support various HDMI 2.1 features? Shop for 48-Gbps HDMI cables to take advantage of those high-bandwidth-related perks.

5. The era of 8K is right around the corner

For as long as I've been covering the TV industry, 8K resolution has been the next big thing. But that outcome never arrived.

8K resolution hasn't become the new standard for TVs for two reasons: the costs associated with 8K and the lack of native-8K content.

8K TVs are expensive to manufacture and, on average, too pricey for the average consumer. More importantly, there simply isn't enough 8K content to enjoy on an 8K TV.

In fact, 4K TV shows and movies have only recently become the standard for streaming platforms, and Live TV (like cable and over-the-air broadcasts) are mostly sub-4K by the time they reach your screen.

As such, I strongly recommend shopping for a 4K TV instead of spending up on an 8K model. Until things change, spending way more on an 8K TV and then tasking it with upscaling 4K and sub-4K movies and shows is not a smart way for most people to to spend money.

It's officially NEW TV season, which means a slew of brand-new models are rolling out to stores. As new TVs take their place on the shelves, sets from last year are getting some pretty steep discounts. This can make shopping for a TV rather complicated.

The newest affordable OLED to hit the scene is the LG B6, the brand's entry-level OLED for 2026. The full scope of the B6 series has yet to be revealed, since some of the sizes aren't yet available. It's also not on sale yet. The LG B5, meanwhile, is LG's entry-level OLED TV from 2025. It's currently available in more sizes than the B6, and you'll also pay far less for this year-old set.

If you're trying to figure out which LG OLED is worth your hard-earned cash, it's worth taking a look at their performance, specs and features. Here's what you need to know.

LG B6 vs LG B5: Specs compared

In most ways that matter, the B6 and B5 are very similar sets. Both offer the same selection of enhanced HDR formats (including Dolby Vision). Both arrive with similar smart TV software, and they each support HDMI 2.1 across all four primary inputs.

Currently, however, the B6 is readily available at retailers in just three sizes: 65, 77 and 83 inches. LG lists a 48-inch version of the B6 on its website, but you might have a difficult time tracking it down. The B5, on the other hand, is available in 48-, 55-, 65-, 77- and 83-inch variants across a wide range of retailers.

I suspect that both a 48- and a 55-inch version of the B6 will be made available soon. For now, the LG B5 offers a more versatile range of size options.

Winner: LG B5

LG B6 vs LG B5: Design

Pictured above is the back of the LG B6's panel. From this angle, you can get a good look at the TV's pair of wide-set, angular feet. It's a slimmer TV than most LED-based models, (which is unsurprising given the panel technology), but folks who are familiar with LG's higher-end OLED TVs might clock the B6's slightly less-premium feel.

The back of the panel features a visually pleasing visual texture that resembles marble. It's a nice touch, despite the fact that you're unlikely to see it very often.

Next, let's take a look at the overall design of last-year's B5. You'll find that it looks almost identical.

The B5 (pictured above) features a similar set of feet as the B6, but they're more boomerang-shaped than those of the B6.

Each TV's selection of ports are positioned the same across both TVs. They reside primarily n a side-facing cutout along the chassis of the B6 and B5.

Both sets arrive with a similar version of of LG's remote control. It still features the same motion-activated, Wii-like controls you'll find on older versions of the Magic Remote, but the updated design is slimmer and features fewer buttons.

The B6 and B5 are as similar on the outside as they are on the inside. Each set offers roughly the same amount of soundbar clearance, and both are stylishly dressed with an interesting texture on the back.

Due to their design similarities, this category is too close to call. Both the B6 and B5 are well-designed TVs with remote controls that get the job done.

Winner: Draw

LG B6 vs LG B5: Performance

Before we dive into which of these OLEDs is the better-performing TV, let's compare their test results. All of the readings below were taken while each TV was set to LG's Filmmaker mode.

I'll cut right to the chase: These are very, very similar TVs when it comes to overall picture quality.

The B6 is a slightly brighter TV in both SDR and HDR, but I ought to emphasize just how marginal the difference is between HDR highlight brightness at 632 versus 780 nits. Thanks to some nifty picture processing magic, LG is able to squeeze more of an visual impact out of the B6's specular highlights this year, but most viewers are unlikely to notice outside of a direct, side-by-side comparison.

Interestingly, our test results indicate that the B5 offers better color volume than its successor despite the latter's added brightness. Once again, though, I need to stress that the gap is quite small.

Both entry-level OLEDs arrive with fantastic out-of-the-box color accuracy in Filmmaker mode. Similarly, their input lag measurements are tremendously low.

Thanks to the built-in benefits of OLED technology, both the B6 and the B5 are capable of perfect black levels and pixel-level dimming. Conveniently, they also offer wider viewing angles than you'll find on similarly priced, LED-based TVs.

I've seen both of these TVs up close. I've watched a ton of content on both. Thanks to slightly higher brightness and improvements to LG's picture processing year over year, the B6 is the better-performing TV. But it's real close, and you ought to keep that in mind when the time comes to make a decision.

Winner: LG B6

LG B6 vs LG B5: Smart platform and features

These TVs are built around LG's webOS smart platform, and although they're different versions of the software out of the box, they're virtually the same in most of the ways that matter to the average viewer.

Compared to the zippy, easy-to-navigate interface of both Roku and Google TV, webOS doesn't feel as frictionless. However, if all you need is a reliable way to access Netflix, HBO Max and other popular streaming apps, webOS is fine.

As mentioned, both the B6 and B5 come with four HDMI 2.1-compatible inputs, and both sets top out at 4K/120Hz support. In other words, they can take advantage of the highest 4K spec available on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 Pro. Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and LG's Game Optimizer mode are accounted for, too.

There are minor differences from one version of webOS to the next, but nothing game-changing.

Winner: Draw

LG B6 vs LG B5: Verdict

If, for some reason, the thought of buying a 2025 model in 2026 leaves a sour taste in your mouth, not much I can say will sway you away from the B6. Its slightly brighter presentation and updated processor are a nice bonus, indeed.

But more sizes options for the B6 are, presumably, still on the way. In addition, the 65-inch LG B6 is $1,899 at Best Buy. That price will surely drop as the year progresses, but right now, it's comin' in hot.

Meanwhile, the 65-inch LG B5 is just $1,199 at Best Buy — a full $700 less than the B6. Is the B6's slightly brighter picture worth $700 to you?

If you're shopping for a TV in 2026, there's a chance you'll find yourself choosing between two types: OLED and Super Quantum Dot (SQD) Mini-LED.

OLED TVs have been available for over a decade, while SQD Mini-LED TVs just made it to shelves this year. Several brands make and sell OLED TVs, while only one brand — TCL — offers SQD sets.

Despite the fact that OLED has been around the block much longer, both technologies come with their own strengths and weaknesses. If you're hoping to buy the best TV for your viewing habits and home setup, I can help.

OLED: strengths and weaknesses

Known as one of the top TV technologies available today, OLED has been compelling people to ooh and ahh for as long as I've been covering the TV industry. The key to its success is contrast.

While LED-based TVs rely on a dedicated backlight either behind the screen or along its edges, every single pixel in an OLED display is self-illuminating. This has a tremendously positive impact on picture quality.

Without the need for a backlight, OLED TVs can produce perfect black levels, entirely free of the hazy light bloom and haloing effect often seen on LED TVs. This has the added bonus of making bright objects appear even brighter.

Since every pixel is self-lit, the overall contrast of an OLED-driven picture is off the charts. Tiny clusters of bright pixels practically pop off the screen, infusing the image with the depth and clarity your eyes are used to seeing during everyday life.

The most affordable OLED TVs are pricier than the cheapest LED TVs, while high-end OLEDs typically cost at least a few thousand bucks. This is one of the reasons why many folks — TV-reviewers and shoppers alike — gravitate towards mid-range OLED TVs like the LG C5.

OLED TVs aren't for everyone, however. While they often come with excellent color volume, bright, premium LED TVs tend to come with purer, bolder color. Some quantum dot-enhanced OLED TVs (like the Samsung S95F) can go toe to toe with the most-colorful LED TVs, but by and large, LED-based sets in upper price ranges pack punchier palettes.

And, while OLED TVs have made great strides in recent years when it comes to overall brightness, they still have quite a long way to go. This is especially true when it comes to full-screen brightness; on average, LED TVs have an overall brighter presentation, as OLEDs need to regulate their heat more diligently.

Super Quantum Dot: strengths and weaknesses

SQD TVs are a new spin on the tried-and-true combo of Mini-LED backlighting and quantum dot color. Despite many similarities between good ol' fashioned QLEDs and SQD TVs, the latter promises — and, according to recent test results, delivers — brighter, purer color than what you'll usually see on an LED TV with garden-variety quantum dots.

The Super Quantum Dot recipe is comprised of several ingredients: reformulated quantum dots; a new, advanced color filter to harness those quantum dots; and some onboard, software-based algorithms designed to keep colors consistent. (TCL, the brand behind SQD technology, refers to that last bit as its Advanced Color Purity Algorithm.)

We've had the luxury of testing two SQD TVs so far in 2026 —the TCL X11L and the TCL QM8L — and the results confirm that SQD technology is pushing brighter, bolder color compared to most quantum dot-equipped LED TVs. Both SQD TVs we've tested are also among the brightest we've tested all year, too. This makes sense, as they're both premium Mini-LED displays first and foremost.

In terms of cost, SQD TVs start at a lower price as you might think: The QM8L, for instance, just went on sale for $1,799, which is comparable to many OLED TVs.

As Mini-LED TVs, you can expect the same tradeoffs with SQD as you would with any run-of-the-mill Mini-LED set: Its viewing angles aren't quite as accommodating as OLED; it's not capable of perfect black levels unless large swaths of the backlight array are completely dimmed; and pixel-level dimming is impossible.

It's also worth point out that, so far, we've only tested a handful of SQD TVs, and they all happened to be high-end Mini-LED-based sets with excellent brightness and backlight control. This might not be the case with a lower-end SQD set.

OLED vs SQD: outlook

Just as I would recommend a mid-range or high-end Mini-LED TV to someone looking for a bright, colorful picture that will hold up even in sunny living rooms, I recommend SQD TVs to folks looking for a bright, eye-catching presentation.

OLED TVs, on the other hand, are perfect companions for viewers who value an accurate, cinematic picture that will likely look jaw-droppingly good regardless of what's on the screen. These premium TVs tend to be luxury purchases precisely because of their picture quality, so keep that in mind if you're shopping for the best possible performance.

While the brightest OLED TVs are often the most expensive, even mid-range OLEDs (like the aforementioned LG C5) are bright enough for most spaces. However, if you do most of your viewing in a sun-soaked living room and want your TV to rise to that particular occasion, an SQD Mini-LED TV is the safer bet.

If you've been looking to upgrade to an OLED TV, I have very good news. Right now, the 55-inch Samsung S85F is just $897 at Amazon. That's a full $500 off its usual price, and cheaper than most 55-inch OLED TVs from any brand.

In our Samsung S85F review, my colleague Dylan describes this TV's picture quality as being "the star of the show." As an OLED TV, the S85F carries a distinct advantage over regular, LED-based TVs.

Rather than relying upon a backlight, an OLED display features millions of self-lit pixels. The result is a detail-rich picture with a ton of visual depth, and like all OLED TVs, the S85F is capable of producing perfect black levels.

So, while Samsung's entry-level OLED isn't as bright or as colorful as the brand's higher-end OLED TVs, you're still getting the key benefits of OLED display technology.

The S85F also arrives with plenty of streaming- and gaming-related features for the price. It supports 4K gaming at 120Hz across four HDMI 2.1 inputs — something my colleague Dylan calls 'a huge highlight for gamers.' It's the highest 4K spec supported by current-gen consoles, and it's available across all of the S85F's HDMI ports.

The S85F is built around Samsung's own streaming software, Smart Hub, and while it's not my preferred platform, it supports a wide variety of apps. The overall navigational experience is snappy, too, thanks to the S85F's decent processing power.

Right now is a perfect time to pounce on the heavily discounted S85F, as Samsung's 2026 TV lineup is currently rolling out across retail shelves. This means that the S85F is in the process of being replaced by the Samsung S85H, whose 55-inch version costs $1,499.

If you're looking to save a significant amount of money on an entry-level OLED, I recommend going with the S85F instead of the newer, pricier model.

OLED TVs are among the best TVs you can buy, but like all TVs, they’re not everlasting. I’ve been covering OLEDs since LG’s first 4K OLED TV hit the market, and while they’re much more durable now than they were over a decade ago, even the best OLED TVs are liable to wear down over time.

Why does it happen? OLED displays harness organic material. This material plays a huge role in what makes OLED technology so stunning, but it’s also why these TVs tend to fail in distinct ways.

When it comes to the telltale signs of an aging OLED — dead pixels, color tinting, dimness and the dreaded OLED burn-in — I’ve seen it all. Here’s what to look out for if you’ve got an aging OLED TV on your hands.

1. Dramatically diminished brightness

For years, the hit on OLED TVs was that they’re not nearly as bright as LED-based TVs. In the decade I’ve spent covering the industry, massive strides have been made in pushing OLED brightness to levels comparable to many high-end LED TVs — at least when it comes to small highlight detail. In terms of full-picture brightness, LED TVs still lead the pack.

Nevertheless, on average, OLED TVs are plenty bright for most living spaces these days. But they’re also susceptible to dimming over time, and because of the organic material in play, it’s likely to be one of the first signs that your OLED is wearing down.

This should not be confused with your OLED’s Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL), a built-in function that protects the display and prevents burn-in by subtly dimming the picture on occasion. On most OLED TVs, you can often clock the ABL function switching on when there’s a sustained, still image on the screen. It also tends to activate during long sequences in which on-screen content remains relatively unchanged.

2. Dead pixels

While this problem isn’t specific to OLED displays, it’s still a sign of hardware failure. Dead pixels happen when one or more of a display’s millions of pixels stop working.

On OLED TVs, dead pixels appear as dull, gray- or black-colored specks across the image. You’re more likely to spot them during bright scenes.

If dead pixels materialize relatively early on in your OLED-owning tenure, you might be covered under a brand or retailer warranty. That said, they’re more likely to appear with age.

3. Lines of failing pixels

Similar to dead pixels, this issue often manifests as entire columns or rows of failing pixels. In my experience, these lines are brightly lit or off-color rather than completely dead. I should know, since it happened to my OLED TV.

From what I understand (and what I’ve been told), lines like this are often the result of component failure at a deeper level than the screen itself. In my case, the issue had more to do with the hardware inside the motherboard.

In any event, this problem led to the replacement of the entire OLED panel — screen, chassis and all. I was able to do so by way of a warranty, but if you're not covered by a warranty, you might find that replacing the TV is easier and possibly less expensive than repairing it.

4. Color tinting

If certain content appears reddish, bluish or otherwise oddly tinted, you might be looking at a deteriorated panel. Fortunately, this issue is far less prevalent in newer OLED TVs right out of the box, but it’s still one to look out for in OLED TVs that are getting up there in age.

In my travels, OLED color tinting is at its most obvious when muted or gray-colored images are on screen. It’s often quite noticeable during black-and-white content and can appear in large, blotchy columns.

The image above has been specifically photographed and edited to exaggerate the issue, but it was taken while this OLED displayed what was supposed to be an entirely gray screen. It’s also worth noting that the OLED in question is the LG C1, a 2021 model. Since then, I’ve encountered this odd, magenta-colored tinting less and less.

In addition, there’s an altogether separate type of OLED color tinting that isn’t a cause for concern, and that’s a green- or pink-colored tinting during off-axis viewing. If you own an OLED TV from the past several years that shifts white objects into a subtle green- or pink-colored tint when viewing the TV from off to the side, don’t worry about it. This is likely the result of a coating and not a sign for concern.

If your OLED’s color tinting is coming with some interesting shapes or shadows, you might have another issue to contend with: burn-in.

5. Burn-in

Burn-in is a catch-all term that describes the ghostly impression of previously viewed content, now embedded within the display after several hours of use. It's an issue that affects OLED TVs but not LED TVs on account of OLED's use of organic material.

This very real issue has been something of a boogeyman since OLED technology first hit the scene. Fortunately, I have two pieces of good news. The first is that most people don't need to worry about burn-in on account of their viewing habits. The second bit of good news is that, over the last decade, brands have developed plenty of hardware- and software-based defenses to guard against burn-in.

On that first point, unless you spend several hours every day watching the same type of content (or using your OLED TV as a computer monitor), you really don't need to worry about static images burning their way into the screen. You should be on the lookout for things like on-screen logos, news chyrons, sports tickers and the Windows taskbar. If this stuff is on screen for long periods of time, you might have an issue.

And then there are the preventative measures. LG OLEDs, for instance, offer the following options in the OLED Panel Care menu: Pixel Cleaning (which can be run manually or set to an automatic timer), Screen Move (which subtly shifts the display occasionally in order to shake up the pixels) and Adjust Logo Brightness (which automatically detects on-screen logos and throttles their brightness).

You can find similar settings on Samsung and Sony OLEDs, and all of the major OLED-makers come with screensavers, too. The Automatic Brightness Limiter function I mentioned earlier also plays a major role in protecting your OLED TV.

Replacing your OLED TV

If you've determined that the time has come to replace your OLED TV, I'll give you the same piece of advice I give my friends, family and colleagues: If you can't find a good deal on a brand-new TV, shop last year's models.

At the time of publishing, nearly all of the biggest TV brands are rolling out their latest lineups. This means that last-year's sets are at (or close to) their lowest price to date.

For instance, you could spring for the all-new LG C6 OLED and shell out between $2,000 and $2,700 for a 65-inch version. Alternatively, you could pick up the 65-inch LG C5 for $1,299 at Amazon . According to our test results, the C6 is only marginally better than its five-star, award-winning predecessor.

The main takeaway here ought to be that, while OLED TVs are engineered to address their potential weaknesses in a very specific way, they're not more at-risk for failure than LED-based TVs.

Yes, even the best OLED TVs rely on organic material and are more susceptible to overheating than LED TVs. But to put this into perspective, some of the best Mini-LED TVs on the market (and especially newer RGB LED TVs) are packed with all sorts of intricate components that can fail at anytime.

All TVs, regardless of type, get old and eventually fail. The hope is that you're able to extract a good, long life out of them before it's time to move on.

This is because the holiday happens to arrive at the time of year where TV brands are busy rolling out their latest lineups, so last-year's models are already at (or close to) their lowest price. Combine that with Memorial Day sales events and you've got a recipe for really, really good deals.

Best Buy is one of the stores marking down everything from entry-level QLEDs to world-class OLEDs this weekend. And, in the interest of deal-hunters everywhere, I've pored over pages of listings and plucked out my top 10 favorite deals.

I've covered the gamut and included sets for every budget, but there are some particularly good deals here worth highlighting. My favorite is easily the 55-inch LG B5, on sale for $799 at Best Buy this weekend. LG's budget-friendly OLED was already one of the best value propositions in its class, but this deal makes it a no-brainer.

My favorite Memorial Day TV deals

LG’s OLED TVs are some of the most popular and best TVs on the market. However, while many of us would love to have the flagship LG G6 or W6 Wallpaper OLED on our walls, their starting prices of $3,299 and $5,499 make them more of a pipe dream.

That’s why I often recommend the LG C6 and its more affordable little brother, the LG B6 OLED. The latter starts at just $1,999 for a 65-inch screen and, according to our recently conducted test results, is better than its stablemates in one key area.

Here’s what we found out when we ran the set through our test lab.

Where the B6 is better than the C6 OLED

Let’s get the obvious facts out of the way first — the LG C6 OLED is brighter, more colorful and, when it comes to 4K/HDR content, a lot more color accurate than the B6 OLED.

But if you’re someone who doesn’t watch a lot of 4K/HDR content and spend most of your time watching cable TV that’s still transmitted in HD/SDR, the B6 OLED is going to offer a slightly better color accuracy right out of the box.

Color accuracy is denoted by that Delta-E score up above and the lower the score is, the more accurate the colors are. In Standard mode, we measured the LG C6 OLED’s Delta-E at a relatively high 11.7387; the LG B6 we tested came in at a noticeably lower 10.5796.

If you really care about color accuracy, however, you’ll probably want to put these TVs into their respective Filmmaker modes to better match what the director intended when they finished color grading. In this mode, the LG B6 also squeaks out a win (1.0362 vs 1.617 on the C6), but it’s worth noting that any difference in a Delta-E under 3 is nearly impossible to distinguish with the naked eye.

If I lost you along the way, the main takeaway from our testing is that the B6 is — surprisingly — more accurate with colors in HD/SDR shows and movies.

HDR, on the other hand, is a different story…

Here’s why you still might want to buy a C6 OLED instead

Of course, as you can see from the chart above, the B6 isn’t better than the C6 in every category — in fact, in most categories the C6 is still the better overall TV.

As our tests prove out, the C6 has a wider color gamut and it’s brighter across the board.

That’s going to matter for folks who don’t have a perfectly light-controlled dark room. The added brightness will also make specular highlights (like bursts of gunfire or explosions) pop a lot more compared to the dimmer B6 model.

I’d hazard a guess and say that the C6 is going to do a better job upscaling video from HD to 4K and dealing with color banding, too, thanks to its higher-end processor.

Last but not least, the 65-inch LG C6 OLED is currently on sale for the same price as the 65-inch B6 OLED. That's reason enough to go for the more advanced C6 model.

Give it a few months and the LG B6 OLED will settle into a lower price (usually that's around Black Friday and Cyber Monday).

If 65 inches is too much screen, keep an eye out for the inevitable 55-inch B6 that will likely go on sale later this year and, if last year's B5 OLED is any indication, an even-smaller, Best Buy exclusive 48-inch model . In previous years, these OLED TVs were on sale for under $700, so they're an incredible value.

It’s widely known that the week of Memorial Day is a pretty good time to shop for a TV. It’s perhaps less known that many of the biggest brands themselves get in on the action along with big-box stores and online retailers. It’s a nifty opportunity to order directly from the manufacturer while still saving a ton of money.

For instance, Samsung’s Memorial Day TV sale is already live, and while I initially wasn’t expecting to find much to recommend, there’s a ton of QLEDs, Mini-LEDs and OLEDs on sale for prices rivaling those at retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.

To keep things simple, I combed through pages of listings and plucked out my 10 top picks. Most of these models are from 2025, but that’s by design — these are the best TVs to shop right now.

My top Samsung Memorial Day TV deals

Along with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Memorial Day is one of the best opportunities of the year to save on a TV, and it's all because of the timing. You see, big-box retailers like Best Buy are making one last push to move models from the previous year, which means some of the best and most popular sets are near their lowest price to date.

I pored over pages of TV listings at Best Buy, and of all the deals available at the store's Memorial Day sale, this is my favorite: the 55-inch LG B5 OLED for $799. LG's entry-level OLED was already one of my most-recommended TVs heading into this week, but Best Buy's sale price has turned it into a no-brainer. While it's picture isn't as bright or colorful as that of pricier OLED TVs, the B5 is still an OLED TV, which means you're getting all of the benefits that come with arguably the best display technology the industry has to offer.

Instead of relying on a backlight, OLED TVs like the B5 leverage self-lit pixels. Not only does this allow for perfect black levels, but you also don't have to deal with that hazy, bluish light bloom you'll often see on LED TVs.

The nature of OLED is also why the B5's relatively modest peak brightness goes a longer way. Its picture has better shadow detail than what you're likely to see on an LED-based TV with similar peak brightness, so highlights have a tendency to pop better.

Along with the premium hardware comes a premium amount of extra features. The 55-inch B5 may be several hundred dollars less than a 55-inch LG C5, but you're getting almost all of the same streaming- and gaming-related enhancements.

The B5 is one of the best gaming TVs in its price range. It supports 4K gaming at 120Hz, the top 4K spec for the latest consoles. You're also getting LG's Game Optimizer mode, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), AMD FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility, too.

And, while LG's webOS software suite isn't my favorite way to stream movies and shows, it'll serve just fine as a daily driver for folks who'd rather not rely on a dedicated streaming device. Its app support is robust and the user interface is relatively straightforward.

If you've been curious about OLED technology but have shied away from the high prices that typically come with these TVs, this is a legitimately great opportunity to dive in. I can't think of very many 55-inch TVs for $799 that I'd rather buy.

Memorial Day is still a week away, but some retailers have already started discounting everything from OLEDs to QLEDs. I should know, too — I've been tracking the top TV deals from places like Amazon and Best Buy for the last several weeks.

As with all Memorial Day TV sales, the steepest discounts can be found on models from last year. Don't let that throw you off, though; these TVs are still every bit as good as they were when they first hit shelves.

Take the LG C5, for instance. LG's mid-range OLED from 2025 is not only the sole TV to earn our five-star rating in the last year, it's also one of my favorite TVs ever made. Right now, you can get the 65-inch LG C5 for $1,399 at Best Buy, which is roughly half the price of its successor, the LG C6.

But there are plenty of QLEDs, OLEDs and Mini-LED TVs already on sale ahead of Memorial Day weekend, and I've made sure to corral sets for every budget.

My top early Memorial Day TV deals

As someone who tests TVs and recommends them for a living, I can tell you that we're in one of the most fruitful times of the year for deals. Why? Because all of the best and most popular TVs from last year are cratering in price ahead of the release of new models.

These discounted TVs didn't suddenly lose their luster at midnight on January 1 — they're every bit as good now as they were when they first hit shelves. Case in point? The 65-inch LG C5 is just $1,299 at Amazon right now. Not only is this the only TV we awarded a 5-star rating in 2025, it's also one of my favorite sets ever made.

For one thing, the C5 comes with pedigree. This OLED comes from a long line of mid-range OLED TVs whose value is almost as impressive as its picture quality. It's not the brand's brightest and most-colorful OLED TVs, but even at its original price of $2,699, the C5 offered up a ton of value.

If you're not hip to OLED technology, let me get you up to speed. On TVs like the C5, there is no separate, LED-based backlight. Instead, every individual pixel is self-lit. This leads to all sorts of fantastic, performance-related perks.

An OLED TV is capable of perfect black levels, so you won't be distracted by the hazy, bluish glow associated with LED light bloom. Self-lit pixels also allow the C5 to drive a ton of brightness to very tiny areas of the picture. The result is an unparalleled sense of depth when compared to run-of-the-mill LED TVs.

As mentioned, the C5 isn’t as bright and colorful as higher-end OLEDs (like the flagship-level LG G5, which also debuted last year). But unless you're chasing the brightest possible picture, you oughtn't worry about this. The C5 is plenty bright for most viewing environments. And, when movie night rolls around and the lights go off, you're in for a tremendous presentation — especially during 4K flicks mastered for HDR.

The discounted C5 also arrives with just about every feature you could want for gaming, streaming and beyond. In fact, when it comes to enhancements, it's almost identical to the higher-end LG G5.

Beyond the C5's built-in smart platform, it supports for 4K gaming at 120Hz on current-gen consoles (the top 4K spec for these systems), and up to 144Hz with VRR enabled for PC gamers. LG’s Game Optimizer mode puts all of the handiest gaming settings in a convenient quick menu.

Look, I get it: The C5's successor, the all-new C6 OLED, is tempting. But if you're choosing between a 2025 and 2026 TV right now, I am firmly in the 2025 camp.

The LG C6 is only marginally brighter than the LG C5. And, as far as features go, they're nearly identical in all of the ways that matter to the average viewer. Right now, the C6 is sitting at its original asking price of $2,699. For half of that price, the C5 is a much better deal.

It feels like everything is getting more expensive. If you entered 2026 with the intention of upgrading to an OLED TV at some point this year, you might have some mixed feelings about the state of the market.

Despite the turbulent times, I come bearing good news: Brands are busy rolling out their latest TV lineups, and as a result, last-year’s sets are crashing in price.

Knowing this, I’ve scoured retailers like Best Buy and Amazon to find the most buyer-friendly OLED TV deals available today. Even though they’ve been available for a year, these are still some of the best OLED TVs money can buy. In many cases, they’re almost as good as their newer, fresher replacements.

1. LG B5

The first deal is a perfect pick for people with smaller-sized spaces, as this OLED TV's screen clocks in at a modest 48 inches. If you're in the market for an affordable OLED smaller than 55 inches, this is the one I'd put at the top of your list.

The LG B5 is an entry-level model, and while it isn't as bright or colorful as pricier, higher-end OLED TVs on this list, it still comes with all of the built-in benefits we've come to expect from this premium display technology. These perks include perfect black levels, ultra-wide viewing angles and, of course, pixel-level dimming.

The B5 doesn't leave you hanging when it comes to features, either. It arrives with many of the same bells and whistles you'll find on higher-end LG OLEDs, including LG's webOS smart platform, Dolby Vision support and the ability to showcase 4K games at 120Hz.

The 48-inch model is a Best Buy exclusive, so you won't find it at any other retailer. This $649 sale price is a whopping 50% off its original price.

2. Samsung S85F

At the 55-inch size point, few OLED deals surpass the heavily discounted Samsung S85F. We recently awarded this TV with a 4-star rating, and in our Samsung S85F review, my colleague Dylan describes being 'blown away by the TV’s picture quality.'

Like the aforementioned LG B5, the S85F is an entry-level OLED. However, it's worth noting that, despite its relatively modest brightness compared to higher-end Samsung OLEDs, the S85F TV is brighter than LG's entry-level OLED. This makes the S85F a better fit for bright-room viewing.

And, like its LG-branded rival, the S85F is loaded up with more features than you might expect given its entry-level status. It supports 4K gaming at 120Hz across four HDMI 2.1 inputs and comes with Samsung's Smart Hub streaming platform baked right in.

3. LG C5

The C5 comes from a long line of mid-range, LG-branded OLED TVs that deliver a ton of value relative to their cost. In fact, for my money, it's one of the best C Series OLED TVs LG has ever made.

You can get the full picture in our 5-star LG C5 review, but here's the basic gist: This TV was already engineered to be a value-forward option that settles into the sweet spot between affordability and performance, and now that it's had a full year to occupy store shelves, it's almost at its cheapest price to date.

The C5 is significantly brighter than both of the already-mentioned, entry-level OLED TVs on this list, and that added highlight brightness allows for a more-impactful HDR presentation during movies, shows and games.

The discounted C5 also arrives with nearly every feature you’ll find on its successor, the LG C6. In fact, in most of the ways that matter to the average viewer, they're almost identical TVs.

The C5 includes Dolby Visio support, four HDMI 2.1 inputs, LG's webOS smart platform and the ability to showcase 4K games at 120Hz (and up to 165Hz with a PC hooked up). Between this impressive set of features, its performance and low price, it's no wonder why this was our best-reviewed TV in the last year.

4. Sony Bravia 8

The Sony Bravia 8 made its debut in 2024, but hear me out: It's just as good now as it was a couple of years ago. Right now, you can get the 65-inch version for a sizable discount that takes the sting out of paying the so-called Sony Tax.

When we tested this TV for our full Sony Bravia 8 review, we came away impressed. This set isn't quite as bright as some of its mid-range competitors (like the previously mentioned LG C5), but it's bright enough for HDR shows and movies to pop, particularly in dimly lit or dark rooms.

The Bravia 8's best feature, however, is Sony's unparalleled picture processing. This OLED upscales sub-4K content extremely well, and Sony's Professional picture mode will surely satisfy viewers who yearn for an accurate picture right out of the box.

5. LG G5

The LG G5 is, pound for pound, the best-performing OLED TV on this list. As a result, you can expect to pay higher price for its 55-inch model.

But there is some good news. Since this TV made its debut a year ago, it's on sale for a much lower price. The 55-inch G5 launched at $2,499. Right now, that model is down to $1,999.

If you're planning on placing your next TV in a sun-soaked room, the G5 is the most accommodating set in this round-up. In fact, it's one of the brightest OLED TVs we've ever tested, period.

It pairs these sensationally high HDR highlights with superb color volume, and in its most accurate picture mode (Filmmaker), the G5 delivers one of the most cinematic presentations you can buy right now.

Just about every streaming- and gaming-related feature is accounted for here, but it's worth mentioning that this TV's stand is sold separately, as this OLED leverages a gap-free design that's built specifically for wall-mounting.

Why is it such a convenient time to upgrade your living room? It's not just because the World Cup is on the horizon (though that's a tantalizing reason to treat yourself), but because the biggest brands in the industry are busy rolling out their latest lineups. This means that many of last-years models — some of which are still among the best TVs you can buy — are at (or approaching) their lowest price ever.

To help you shop, I've done a deep dive into Best Buy's seemingly endless list of TVs and plucked out my ten favorite deals. Some of my favorite models are wildly cheap right now, including the Best Buy-exclusive, 48-inch LG B5 OLED for just $649. I've found something for every budget, though, starting well below $400.

My favorite Best Buy TV deals

The C6 OLED is LG's newest, mid-range OLED for 2026. It's the latest in a long line of popular, award-winning OLEDs that offer incredible picture quality and an array of extra features for less than the cost of a higher-end OLED TV.

The Hisense UR9 is the brand's first flagship-level RGB LED TV. It leverages an all-new type of TV technology known as RGB LED, the advantages of which are high brightness and better color volume than run-of-the-mill Mini-LED TVs.

One of them offers mid-range-level OLED performance while the other — Hisense's top-shelf TV for 2026 — promises bright, eye-popping color. Now's an especially interesting time to be deciding between these two TVs, as the Hisense UR9 was just heavily discounted almost immediately after making its debut. Here's how the C6 and UR9 compare — from performance to features and price.

LG C6 vs Hisense UR9: specs compared

First, let's chat about the C6's size availability. In addition to the sizes listed above, the C6 is also available in 77- and 83-inch versions. However, these sizes are classified as an altogether different model: the LG C6H. This means if you're considering a 77- or 83-inch C6, you'll technically have to spring for the C6H OLED.

While haven't tested the C6H in our labs yet, LG promises better performance on these sets as they're equipped with LG Display's newest, fanciest RGB Tandem OLED. The 42- to 65-inch versions of the C6, on the other hand, leverage a standard WOLED display. It's still a fantastic set of hardware, but it's worth knowing the difference between the two panel types.

The UR9, meanwhile, is currently only available in 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes. There's a gigantic, 100-inch version of the TV on its way soon, but at the time of publishing, this version isn't available to purchase yet.

Although all of the main ports on both the C6 and UR9 are of the high-bandwidth, HDMI 2.1 variety, the UR9 is limited to three HDMI inputs while the C6 carries the standard set of four. The UR9 makes up for this somewhat with an added USB-C port, but keep this in mind if you own several HDMI-compatible devices.

Both TVs support Dolby Vision, but like most Hisense TVs, the UR9 also supports the royalty-free format, HDR10+. Of the two, Dolby Vision is more widely available among streaming platforms and physical media.

Like all LG OLEDs, the C6 does not support ATSC 3.0 support. The UR9, on the other hand, does include this feature. It allows over-the-air broadcasts to be received in their native 4K resolution. Such ultra-high definition broadcasts are still relatively rare, but it's nevertheless a nice feature to have for future-proofing purposes.

Both TVs bring a lot to the table in terms of specs, so let's call this one a tie.

Winner: Tie

LG C6 vs Hisense UR9: design

The C6 (seen above) features a similar design to its predecessor, the LG C5, but given its elegant look, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I especially dig the marble-like finish on the back of the TV.

The C6's downward-slanting, wedge-shaped stand attaches itself to the back of the panel in a sturdy fashion. Here's something important to keep in mind: The stand's shape keeps the C6's screen relatively close to whatever surface it's sitting on, so people with exceptionally tall soundbars should make sure in advance that it won't obstruct the screen.

Like many of LG's C Series OLED TVs that came before it, the C6's panel is among the thinnest you'll find on shelves. The TV's chassis widens out around the middle of the screen, but even with the added bulk, the TV is narrower than many of the slimmest Mini-LED TVs.

If the light, sleek-looking C6 practically floats into your home, the UR9 (seen above) may as well drop an anchor. It's not an overly thick TV, to be clear, but it has a heavier exterior. It's as though the UR9 is working overtime to contain the power within its panel.

It, too, sits atop a centered, pedestal-style stand, but the plate at its base is much more accommodating for soundbar placement than the C6's configuration. That convenience is the best thing I can highlight about the UR9's overall design, as I do find it to be utilitarian to a fault.

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs Hisense UR9: performance

Before we dive into which of these TVs is the better performer, let's compare their test results. (Both TVs were in their respective Filmmaker picture modes when these tests were taken.)

The standout detail here is the gulf between the brightness of both sets. Even in garden-variety, non-HDR content (like cable TV or most streaming shows), the UR9 is wildly bright. For HDR content, this serves as a feather in the UR9's cap. For SDR content, you might its 2,000+ nits of brightness to be too much. Nevertheless, this makes the UR9 a more viable option for people with a sun-drenched living space.

The UR9 put up some of the best color volume-related test results I've ever seen. It covers around 93% of the BT.2020 color space, which is higher than even most quantum dot-enhanced OLED TVs.

This is an impressive figure, no doubt, but according to my colleague Dylan Haas (who recently reviewed the UR9), the punchy palette doesn't always quite translate to real-world content. With color volume being the bread and butter of an RGB LED TV, some might find this disappointing.

The C6 is significantly dimmer than the UR9, but it's got a serious trick up its sleeve: OLED display technology. OLEDs are capable of perfect black levels and pixel-level dimming, which has a hugely positive impact on picture quality. Its ability to produce perfect black levels means its contrast is through the roof.

Since specular highlights can be controlled with surgical precision, HDR highlights on the C6 tend to stand out more. 1,400 nits of highlight brightness is way less than the UR9's 3,400-nit benchmark, but the C6's perceptible contrast carries its picture further. This allows for a deeper, more-detail-rich presentation, too.

The C6's picture is better tuned out of the box, too. In Filmmaker mode, the Hisense UR9 manages to put up a Delta-E of below 3 (widely considered the threshold for color error perceptibility), but the C6 is incredibly accurate in LG's Filmmaker mode — more so than the UR9. That, combined with its top-notch contrast control, leads to a more refined presentation.

In a side-by-side comparison, you'll almost certainly clock the UR9's bolder, more-voluminous color. It will surely be the brighter of the two pictures, too. But contrast is the first thing our eyes notice when assessing an image, and Hisense's RGB LED TV still falls short of the C6 in the contrast department.

The C6, therefore, is the safer pick for A/V enthusiasts, home theater-builders and all-around picture purists. If you're looking for the brightest possible experience, however, it's hard to deny the UR9's sheer horsepower.

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs Hisense UR9: smart platform and features

The C6 comes with the newest version of LG's webOS built right in. It's similar to last year's version of the software (webOS 25), but LG has tossed in some new, AI-based features on webOS 26. Unfortunately, my colleague Dylan Haas referred to them as "meaningless" if you don't already use AI-related features around the house, and I'm inclined to agree with Dylan.

Although webOS isn't my favorite (I find its interface to be cluttered and sluggish at times), I suspect that casual users won't mind bumping up against it from time to time. If you want to silo your streaming experience into a separate streaming device, you'll get no complaints from me; I recently decided to replace webOS with Roku and haven't looked back.

Good news for dedicated gamers: The C6 arrives with almost every gaming-related feature under the sun, including support for 4K gaming at 120Hz (and up to 165Hz), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and AMD FreeSync Premium. Support for these features runs across all four of the C6's HDMI 2.1-compatible inputs, so you won't have to juggle devices depending on your needs.

One of the C6's best gaming-related features is LG's Game Optimizer mode. This quick-menu puts all of your most-important settings in one place and automatically launches when you access the settings menu during gameplay.

The UR9 is built around the Google TV smart platform. All told, I prefer Google TV over LG's webOS, as its interface is easier to navigate and tends to be snappier. Along with Roku, Google TV is one of my top picks for streaming software.

As mentioned, the UR9 is limited to just three HDMI ports. They're all HDMI 2.1 compatible, thankfully, but people with several devices (more than one console, a streaming device and soundbar, for instance) might end up feeling restricted by the lack of a fourth.

Across those HDMI inputs, the UR9 supports 4K gaming at 120Hz (and up to 180Hz with a gaming PC linked up), as well as VRR and FreeSync Premium Pro. Hisense does offer a dedicated gaming settings menu like LG's Game Optimizer mode, but I don't find its contents to be quite as useful as what LG is cooking with.

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs Hisense UR9: outlook

What we're left with is a better-designed TV in the C6 that offers a more refined picture with sensational, OLED-driven performance, more size options to choose from and an additional HDMI input.

The UR9 has a leg up on the C6 when it comes to overall brightness, which makes it more viable for bright-room viewing. That said, the C6 doesn't exactly wilt in a sunny room, so your living space would have to be pretty dang bright for me to recommend the C6 (and its OLED display) over the Hisense UR9.

But there's another critical factor to consider: price. Right now, you can spring for a 65-inch C6 for $2,699 on Amazon. The 55-inch LG C6 can be had for $1,999. These prices are certain to steadily drop throughout the year, but for now, it's tough to find the C6 on sale.

The UR9, on the other hand, just saw a massive price cut a mere week and a half after its initial launch. The 65-inch Hisense UR9 is just $1,999 at Best Buy right now after making its debut at $3,499. The 75-inch UR9 is $2,999 at Best Buy, but when it first hit shelves, it was priced all the way at $4,999.

The UR9 is a bright, capable TV, but Hisense's RGB Mini-LED technology can't quite eclipse the self-lit pixels of an OLED display. At the very least, its current sale price puts the UR9 further in line with its performance profile.

OLED TVs are known for two things: fantastic picture quality and steep price tags. They're more affordable than ever, but you still have to shell out a significant chunk of change for the privilege of owning one.

This is why, when I come across an OLED TV for less than a thousand bucks, it feels like a victory for the masses. Right now, the 55-inch Samsung S85F is just $897 at Amazon. It's a full $500 off its usual price, and cheaper than most 55-inch OLED TVs from any brand.

My colleague who recently reviewed the S85F was a self-proclaimed Samsung skeptic — that is, until the S85F rolled into town. Here's why Dylan (and I) love this set.

In our Samsung S85F review, Dylan describes being 'blown away by the TV’s picture quality,' and the reason for this is simple: Instead of relying on a backlight like LED TVs, the S85F's OLED display features millions of self-illuminating pixels. This results in a deep, detail-rich picture (and those perfect black levels you've been hearing all about).

So while the S85F isn't as bright or as colorful as higher-end OLED TVs (like the mid-range Samsung S90F and the flagship-level S95F OLED), you're still getting the key benefits of OLED display technology, which is well worth the money.

It's worth noting, too, that despite its relatively modest brightness, the S85F TV is nevertheless brighter than LG's entry-level OLED, the LG B5. If you're shopping for an affordable OLED, the S85F is likely a better fit for bright-room duty.

There's a ton of value to be found in the S85F's surprisingly thorough selection of features. It offers more than what you might expect given its lower price tag.

This OLED supports 4K gaming at 120Hz across four HDMI 2.1 inputs, something my colleague Dylan calls 'a huge highlight for gamers', I'm inclined to agree, because with four high-bandwidth inputs on hand, the S85F supports the highest 4K spec offered by current-gen consoles across every single HDMI port.

I've got to be honest: I don't find Samsung's Tizen-based smart platform to be as breezy to work with as Roku or Google TV, but it'll get the job done for most people. Most importantly, the software supports a ton of downloadable streaming apps, which is essential if you decide that you'd rather not plug in an external streaming device.

This week is a great time to pounce on the S85F, as Samsung's 2026 TV lineup is currently hitting shelves and there's no telling how long the S85F's stock will last. It's in the process of being replaced by the Samsung S85H, whose 55-inch version costs $1,499. I highly recommend saving six hundred bucks on the discounted model.

If you're looking to upgrade your TV this year and you've got an eye for premium performance, there's a good chance you'll be choosing between these two sets. Here's how the C6 and QM8L compare — from performance to features and price.

LG C6 vs TCL QM8L: specs compared

Let's start with size availability between the C6 and QM8L. The QM8L is available in all of the most-popular sizes for an LED TV except 55 inches. We've tested the 75-inch version of the QM8L, and the smallest size in the series is 65 inches.

The C6 is also available in 77- and 83-inch versions, but these sizes are classified as an altogether different model: the LG C6H. If you want a 77- or 83-inch C6, you're technically buying the C6H OLED.

We should point out here that, while haven't tested the C6H in our labs yet, LG promises better performance on these sets as they're equipped with LG Display's newest RGB Tandem OLED. The 42- to 65-inch versions of the C6, on the other hand, leverage a standard WOLED display. That's not such a bad thing, as the numbers below will prove to you, but it's worth knowing what you're paying for.

Both TVs support Dolby Vision, but the QM8L also supports the royalty-free version of Dolby Vision, HDR10+. Of the two, Dolby Vision remains the most popular among streaming platforms and physical media.

Like all LG OLEDs, the C6 does not support ATSC 3.0 support. The QM8L does. LG C6 vs TCL QM8L: design

The C6 (seen above) follows the design approach of its predecessor, the LG C5. Its wedge-shaped stand attaches itself to the TV's chassis, and the stand's shape keeps the C6's screen relatively close to its surface. It's an elegant look, but you folks with tall soundbars should make sure that there's enough clearance. (I also appreciate the marble-like finish on the back of the panel even though it's less likely to be seen.)

Thanks to the nifty, narrow nature of OLED displays, the C6's panel is super-thin across most of its form. Its chassis bulges out around the panel's midsection, but even with this compartment, the C6 is a slim customer.

The C6 arrives with the newest version of LG's Magic Remote, which can be used to point and click at the screen. The remote also comes with a directional pad and scrolling wheel if you decide to forgo its Wiimote-like functionality.

While the C6 is a wafer-thin screen with a modest chassis attached to it, the QM8L (seen above) is more along the lines of a heavy, thick slab. TCL's latest take on a Mini-LED display leads to a beefier panel than what we typically see on QLED TVs.

I wouldn't call the QM8L's look distracting, but for folks after a TV that quietly blends in with its surroundings will almost certainly appreciate the look and feel of the C6 more. Though, for what it's worth, I find the crosshatched etching on the back of the QM8L to be a nice touch.

Unlike the C6's motion-activated remote, the QM8L arrives with a slim, standard remote with a sensible selection of buttons on its face. I prefer the QM8L's backlit buttons over the C6's motion controls, but your mileage may vary.

Both sets feature thoughtful designs. But as much as I appreciate a backlit remote control, the LG C6 strikes a better pose.

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs TCL QM8L: performance

Before we dive into which of these TVs is the better performer, let's compare their test results. (Both TVs were in their respective Filmmaker picture modes when these tests were taken.)

There's a lot to unpack here. The first thing that ought to jump out at you is brightness. Despite offering slightly brighter highlights during SDR content, the C6 is nowhere near as bright as the QM8L. In fact, during regular, everyday content, the QM8L's average picture brightness (that is, the luminance of the entire picture) is much higher than that of the C6.

During HDR content, the QM8L delivers intense, room-filling brightness, too. Specular highlights (like a glint of sunlight reflecting off a sword) are nearly three times brighter on the QM8L than the C6.

The advantages associated with added brightness carry over into the QM8L's color performance. Thanks to TCL's SQD technology (a new spin on quantum-dot color), the QM8L covers a whopping 90% of the BT.2020 color space. Were you to view the C6 and the QM8L side by side, there's a good chance you'd notice the latter's punchier color first.

This all points in one direction: From a purely performance-related standpoint, the QM8L is an all-around better choice for people with sun-soaked living spaces, or for folks who just want their next TV to provide a bright and bold cinematic picture.

But there's a very good argument to be made that the C6 is the better-performing TV. Its OLED-driven picture results in perfect black levels and pixel-level dimming. Despite its lower brightness ceiling and relatively limited color palette compared to the QM8L, the advantages of OLED display technology are massive.

Since specular highlights can be controlled with razor-like precision, HDR highlights on the C6 tend to stand out more. This allows for a deeper, detail-rich picture — a presentation that, at times, looks more realistic.

In addition, in its most-accurate picture mode, the C6 is much more dialed-in in its out-of-the-box state. You can see this in our test results, as the C6's Delta-E (a figure that describes color error) is lower than the QM8L's.

The ever-important performance category is a draw. The QM8L is a brighter, more-colorful TV that will stand up better during daytime viewing, but the C6 is a much better option for A/V enthusiasts who value reference accuracy.

Winner: Draw

LG C6 vs TCL QM8L: smart platform and features

The C6 arrives with the newest version of LG's webOS right out of the box. It's a similar experience to last year's version of webOS, but LG has also added some new, AI-based features this year. Unfortunately, my colleague Dylan Haas referred to them as "meaningless" if you don't already incorporate AI into your daily life (and I'm inclined to agree).

As far as smart platform software goes, LG's webOS isn't my first choice. I find its interface to be cluttered and navigation to slow down occasionally. That said, most users will see no problem using it as their daily driver, should they decide to forgo a dedicated streaming device.

You're getting a full spread of HDMI 2.1-compatible inputs on both TVs, which is good news for dedicated gamers. On LG's side, the C6 arrives with almost every gaming-related feature under the sun, including support for 4K gaming at 120Hz (and up to 165Hz), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and AMD FreeSync Premium.

One of its best gaming-related features is the inclusion of LG's Game Optimizer mode. This dedicated gaming menu puts all of your most-important settings all in one place, and it automatically appears when accessing the primary settings menu during gameplay.

The TCL QM8L is built around the Google TV smart platform. Pound for pound, I prefer Google TV over LG's webOS software suite, as its interface is easier to navigate. Along with Roku, Google TV is one of my top picks for built-in streaming.

For gaming, the QM8L is loaded with upside, though it's not quite as complete an experience as the C6. It, too, arrives with VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro and support for 4K gaming at 120Hz, but while the C6 stretches all the way up to 165Hz during PC gaming, the QM8L tops out at 144Hz. Fortunately, this will only be relevant for a small slice of shoppers.

Having used it for a while, I can say that LG's Game Optimizer mode is quite nice to have in one's back pocket. The C6 has the edge here, but if you're not a gamer, there's a higher likelihood that the QM8L's inclusion of Google TV will be better for you in the long run than the C6's reliance on webOS.

Winner: LG C6

LG C6 vs TCL QM8L: outlook

Setting aside price, the C6 is an all-around better choice for home theater enthusiasts, picture purists and gamers. It's not as bright as the QM8L (nor as colorful), but if your goal is to splash out on an impressive, accurate picture, the C6 is the superior pick. (And, while we've yet to test this, I suspect that the above is especially true for the 77- and 83-inch versions of the C6H, which purportedly offers better brightness and color.)

The QM8L is a safer pick for people who watch a ton of TV during the day, or for folks who just want a bright, visually arresting picture when the lights are off. As a Mini-LED TV, its ability to control contrast isn't nearly as impressive as the C6, though it is packed with nearly the same set of gaming features.

If you still can't choose between the two, perhaps you'll be swayed by their respective price tags. Today, you can spring for a 65-inch C6 for $2,699 on Amazon. The 55-inch LG C6 can be had for $1,999.

The QM8L just launched at $2,499 for a 65-inch version, but it didn't take long to go on sale. Right now, you can get the 65-inch TCL QM8L for $1,799 at Best Buy. The 75-inch QM8L is just $1,999 at Best Buy at the time of publishing — the same price as the 55-inch C6.

In the coming months, both TVs will likely drop in price. For a brighter, more-affordable experience, the QM8L will remain the better option. For a more precise picture with better gaming features, the C6 will continue to be the way to go.
