The Mavericks miraculously winning the draft lottery to sign Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick hasn't quite made up for the Luka Doncic debacle, but it's a start. Victor Wembanyama, meanwhile, will feel like a new signing for the Spurs, after his season was cut frustratingly short by a blood clot last February. The Eastern Conference has now had a losing record against the West in 23 of the past 26 seasons, though the Cavaliers and Knicks look best-placed to buck the trend.

In the U.K., several NBA games per week are available to watch via Sky Sports, across multiple channels.

Peacock is officially one of two streaming services adding NBA livestreams to their offerings next year. Now, we know some of the features NBC and Peacock will bring to try and make it the best place to watch basketball.

Two of these features are a big deal, though they're not new to Peacock. That's because multiview and key plays are coming to NBA livestreams on Peacock.

These features are two of my favorite YouTube TV features, and I use them regularly to watch Warriors games on the live TV streaming service. Having these features available for Peacock's NBA games is a big win for fans because it means they are now available for more NBA broadcasts than ever.

Live in Browse is essentially a preview feature.

When you boot up the Peacock app, this feature makes it so the marquee NBA game on the home page will play live as you browse, rather than just using a static image to represent the game. You'll even get real-time stats and insights to allow you to know exactly what's going on in the game before diving in.

Catch up with key plays

This is one of my favorite YouTube TV features, but Peacock has used it sparingly for a while now.

Basically, this feature allows you to catch up with the live broadcast with a playlist of short highlight clips. Once the final key play has finished, you'll be watching the live broadcast and totally caught up.

Can't Miss Highlights

If you're just looking for highlights, Peacock has you covered there, too.

Can't Miss Highlights is a playlist that has latest game highlights as well as noteworthy moments from before and after the games. You can launch a live broadcast from this playlist, going from highlight to game livestream with just a tap.

Peacock ScoreCard

Love fantasy sports? Then Peacock ScoreCard will be a fun feature for you.

This new feature is essentially a virtual bingo game. You select a premade ScoreCard with predictions centered around a team or theme.

You pick the card that best fits your predictions for the game, and if they prove true, you'll get points. Score enough points, and you might just make it onto the on-air season-long leaderboard.

Peacock Performance View

Performance View is one for the stats nerds.

This is a new viewing mode that creates an overlay that shows real-time and predictive stats. It'll tell you not only where a player has already scored from, but where they're most likely to score next.

It also makes the broadcast look like a game of NBA2K25. So if it's not for you, don't worry — you can toggle this feature off and on.

Courtside Live

Courtside Live is a new feature that gives you the experience of a courtside seat for Peacock's exclusive Monday night NBA livestreams.

This is a curated viewing experience that includes player arrivals, pre-game shoot-arounds, exclusive spotlights on specific players and spotlights, and courtside reactions from celebrities.

Multiview

Multiview is, of course, one of the best sports viewing features ever created. It allows you to watch multiple (2-4) games at once, all on the same screen.

Multiview has been on Peacock for a while now, and the NBC streaming service is bringing it to the NBA next season — on any device.

Roku is set to enliven its TV home screens via a new partnership with the NBA that will host a dedicated ad-supported basketball channel and an NBA Zone for instant game access, highlights and more. 

Announcing the news in a blog post, Roku hyped up its new NBA channel with an official launch starting today. You’ll be able to catch a variety of basketball content with ease through the Roku Channel, where the first-ever NBA FAST will live for easy access. 

This new sports destination on Roku will allow you to sit back and watch myriad highlights, original series, interviews, classic games, recaps and documentaries. As part of the partnership, Roku will also be exclusively airing 40 live NBA G league broadcasts nationally amid its 2024 through 2025 season. 

NBA Zone will also give basketball fans the latest news and highlights from your favorite teams, keeping you up to date on all the action straight from your Roku Plus Series 4K QLED TV or Roku Streaming Stick 4K.

Roku goes for the NBA 3-pointer

Coined the NBA FAST, which stands for “free ad-supported streaming TV,” Roku’s brand new channel will be the home for all major league basketball fans, inviting users to experience a ton of NBA-related content. This new NBA home will only be available for a limited time — though Roku does not specify for how long. 

NBA FAST won’t have any live broadcasted games but will be host to a variety of different types of basketball experiences, which Roku defines as original series, classic games, highlights, recaps, documentaries, studio shows, and interviews. NBA Zone will likewise be a place for NBA fans to visit on Roku TVs via their favorite team selection that pushes the latest news and highlights to the home screen. The NBA app could be getting an artificial intelligence upgrade and it could change how you view the game forever, including giving you control over the style of the live video feed.

NB-AI is the name of a new chatbot and voice assistant being tested by the NBA that could find its way into the app in future. If realized, it will allow you to act like a director and change the live stream, or ask for extra information about the game you are watching in real time.

Revealed by commissioner Adam Silver at the league’s Tech Summit, the experimental voice assistant is trained on NBA data and uses generative AI technology similar to ChatGPT Voice.

We haven’t seen the full potential of NB-AI yet as its an experimental preview, but the NBA described it as being about to personalize the experience of watching live games on the app. 

Exactly which styles will be available or just how far you can customize it have also not been revealed, but it could include putting it into a fully animated style or making it appear cinematic, as if it were a game playing out in a movie.

During the on stage demonstration Victor Wembanyama, French national and San Antonio Spurs number one draft pick, unveiled the live translation capabilities of NB-AI commentary, including of basketball movie. This included changing the 1986 movie Hoosiers into French.

They also demonstrated changing a recent game into a cartoon, specifically "show it as if it were a Spider-Man movie, complete with graphics and comic book style words on screen."

What else is coming from the NBA?

This isn't the only AI development coming out of the recent Tech Summit. The league also uses artificial intelligence to generate highlights in real time, provide referees with assistance, and translate play-by-plays.

Silver said during the preview: "Today, AI is creating a similar excitement to what we saw around the early days of the internet,” adding that “intuitively, most of us have a sense that artificial intelligence is going to change our lives."

The big question is how it will achieve that, to what extent it will happen, and where it will be most prevalent. Sport seems a good candidate. I even used AI to successfully predict the winner and score differential of the Super Bowl.

Wembanyama, who had a chance to try out the new NB-AI technology, described it as "incredible," adding that its early days and "only the future will say what it will look like.”

YouTube TV is about to get even better for fans of live sports, thanks to a much-needed upgrade to the multiview feature. Now, instead of being stuck with whatever curated games YouTube TV has decided people want to watch, you’ll soon be able to pick them yourself and build a custom multiview screen.

Multiview first launched last year as a preview feature during March Madness. This offered users the chance to simultaneously watch up to 4 live sports games on a single TV screen. It expanded over the following months, offering some non-sports content and an even wider range of games. 

But you were stuck with pre-set viewing options, which is less than ideal. Fortunately, it looks like that will be changing. One Reddit user (via 9to5Google) spotted that a new “build a multiview” option is rolling out to select users. 

So if you’re streaming one live game, you can choose the “build” option to add up to three more live games. However, if you like the curated list, that will still be available for you to choose. It also looks like this feature will let you choose from any game that’s currently playing, rather than restricting you to NBA games. 

However, Google told The Verge that this feature is currently restricted to NBA League Pass and NCAA basketball games. YouTube TV will be adding more live sports “over the next few months”.

But that’s not all YouTube TV has in store for subscribers. Google is also making a change to a feature that’s designed to reduce latency for live streams — which are notorious for the bigger delays compared to live TV broadcasting. 

Previously you could choose to “reduce broadcast delay” in the three-dot menu, but this would only stay active for 48 hours. Now you can keep the feature toggled on indefinitely should you choose. Though YouTube does warn that your video playback may be choppier than you’d like. 

So it’s currently a good time to be a sports fan with a YouTube TV account. Especially if you’re really into basketball. Let’s just hope that more games come to the new build a multiview feature, and Google works to keep shaving off whatever latency it can on live games.

Apple isn’t the only interested party, according to Silver. “Just in a general way, I’ve been having lots of conversations with media companies and tech companies,” he told The Post. 

“I think they’re looking at ways that they can find new opportunities to distribute these sports rights in broader ways than they’ve previously and in unique and different ways, particularly around the personalization and customization that can come with a lot of the advanced technology.”

It's almost time for the Heat vs Nuggets game 2 live stream, and right now Nikola Jokic and Denver are in the driver's seat for the NBA Finals. 

Jimmy Butler and the Heat, possibly a little burned out after the Celtics pushed them to a Game 7, showed up in Denver's Ball Arena and looked like victims of the higher altitude. But unless they play tremendously better when they're back home in Miami, that excuse won't hold up.
