Kickstarting the month on Nov. 4, season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s “All’s Fair” premieres on Hulu. The campy courtroom drama reunites Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, and the rest of the all-female divorce firm for another round of high-stakes scandals, secrets, and stilettos. Dropping that same day on Disney+ and Hulu is “The Remarried Empress,” a live-action K-drama adaptation of the wildly popular webtoon about an empress who boldly rewrites her own destiny after her husband brings home a new concubine.

Later in the month on Nov. 20, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” returns for its third season. Adapting Rick Riordan’s “The Titan’s Curse,” this new installment follows Percy and his friends as they race against time to rescue a kidnapped Annabeth and save Olympus from the encroaching Titans. 'All's Fair' season 2

Ryan Murphy’s campy courtroom saga returns for a second season, back inside the all-female divorce firm of Grant, Ronson & Greene. After the attorneys split from their old male-led practice to strike out on their own, season 2 drops them into a fresh storm of scandals, secrets and stilettos, as new allegiances form, friendships are tested and a shocking revelation threatens the very existence of the firm. You know, no pressure or whatever.

The same group from season 1 is back, including Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor, Sarah Paulson and Glenn Close, with Cauã Reymond joining the cast this season.

'The Remarried Empress'

This lavish Korean period drama, based on the hugely popular webtoon, follows Navier, the beloved and impossibly composed empress of the Eastern Empire, who has built a prosperous land alongside her husband, Emperor Sovieshu. Her world is turned upside down when Sovieshu brings Rashta, a runaway slave, back to the palace with plans to make her his concubine.

Rather than let heartbreak rule her, Navier keeps her composure, and when Prince Heinrey, a charming rival leader from the Western Kingdom, takes an interest in her, she makes a life-changing choice to rewrite her own destiny. Shin Min-a stars as Navier, with Lee Jong-suk as Heinrey, Ju Ji-hoon as Sovieshu and Lee Se-young as Rashta. You've got plenty of time to catch up with the webtoon if you start reading now.

'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' season 3

Disney+’s hit adaptation of Rick Riordan’s beloved book series returns for a third season, this time bringing “The Titan’s Curse,” the third novel, to the screen for the first time. When Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) suddenly vanishes and the Oracle of Delphi delivers a Great Prophecy that could decide the fate of Olympus, Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) set off on a perilous new quest, racing to rescue Annabeth and the goddess Artemis (Dafne Keen) from the clutches of the Titan Atlas (Holt McCallany).

Expect new allies, including the di Angelo siblings, and a noticeably darker turn for the young demigods -- perfect for scratching that YA fantasy itch if you're a big reader or have kids in the house who can't get enough of Jackson.

This is the biggest plan discount Disney's offered in Australia since November 2025, so if you've been considering (or reconsidering) signing up for Disney+, the time to act is now.

With the final months of 2026 on the horizon, now's the best time to subscribe (or re-subscribe) to Disney+. With new and beloved classics from Disney and Pixar, and expansive universes from Marvel and Star Wars, there's plenty for the whole family to enjoy on the streamer.

New additions to Disney+ include Marvel Television's VisionQuest — the long-awaited follow-up to WandaVision and Agatha All Along. This month also sees the release of Moana (2026) on October 21, the new Hulu thriller series Phony and the reality competition series The Mob on October 26.

Suffice it to say, if you've been considering a Disney+ subscription, or want to jump back on to the platform, this annual plan deal is a certified steal. You'll need to act fast to secure it, though, as this deal will expire at midnight on October 21, 2026.

Two of my favorite movies of 2026 arrive on subscription streaming this Friday (Oct. 23). There’s the charmingly sweet rom-com “Finding Emily” on Peacock, while HBO Max adds “The Invite,” the latest movie from Olivia Wilde, which has real Oscar potential (all four stars deserve acting nods). Other top picks this week include Disney’s latest live-action remake, a critically acclaimed horror-thriller and a historical drama on premium streaming, starring Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe.

Below I’ve rounded up the most noteworthy new movies across streaming platforms to help you spend more time watching and less time scrolling. Plus, be sure to check out our guide to the top new TV shows you can stream this week.

‘The Weight’ (POVD)

“The Weight” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January and was met with a rapturous reception. That has translated into a strong 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, this critical acclaim didn’t lead to huge attention when it landed in theaters last month. Maybe “The Weight” will find its viewership now that it’s heading to premium streaming, because if the reviews are right, it’s clearly a quality film.

This historical drama stars Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe, and is set in 1930s Oregon during the Great Depression. It focuses on a battle-scarred World War I veteran, Samuel Murphy (Hawke), who is struggling to provide for his family. After being sent to a harsh work camp prison for fighting with the law, the warden, Clancy (Crowe), offers Samuel the chance at an early release if he agrees to help smuggle a large cache of gold bricks across 100 miles of a vast wilderness.

‘Moana’ (Disney+)

Disney’s latest live-action remake of an animated classic, “Moana,” retells the beloved ocean-set adventure in which the eponymous heroine sets sail to save her Polynesian island from an encroaching darkness. The wisdom of remaking “Moana” just a decade after its debut was much debated, as was the decision to recast Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Unfortunately, in its transition to live-action, “Moana” loses much of its original charm. At least all the beloved tunes are here, and newcomer Catherine Laga'aia shines as the plucky Moana.

“Moana” sticks to the original script almost to the letter; it sees Moana (Laga'aia) set sail on an ocean odyssey to save her people from a curse destroying the local vegetation and aquatic wildlife. She’s joined on her quest by the arrogant demigod Maui (Johnson), and a couple of animal companions. Scored to toe-tapping original songs, 2026’s “Moana” might feel unnecessary, but I’m sure it’ll be very popular on Disney+.

“Finding Emily” should top your watchlist this week if you want a heartwarming movie that will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy by the end. This very British rom-com boasts strong chemistry between its leads, Spike Fearn and Angourie Rice, and is elevated further by its appealing musical soul. However, non-Brits might need to watch with subtitles to understand the thick northern England accents!

Owen (Fearn) works in the student bar at his local university, where he meets Emily and becomes convinced that she’s his dream girl. The problem? He has no way of contacting her after being given the wrong number. Along with a psychology student, also named Emily (Rice), he sets out to find this mysterious girl who won his heart. “Finding Emily” is cute, funny, and anchored by two likeable leads. What’s not to love?

‘The Invite’ (HBO Max)

Olivia Wilde’s “The Invite” sits in my top three favorite movies of the year, and I’ve seen more than 85 new releases in 2026 so far. It’s a razor-sharp comedy-drama that explores two very different relationships and can leap from downright hilarious to devastatingly sad on a dime. Starring Wilde (who also directs), Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton, each giving awards-worthy performances. “The Invite” is a movie with real Oscar nomination potential.

Theatrical in nature and set within a San Francisco apartment, the movie opens with a married couple, Joe (Rogen) and Angela (Wilde), inviting their upstairs neighbors, Piña (Cruz) and Hawk (Norton), for a last-minute dinner party. The evening rapidly descends into chaos as Joe and Angela’s marital problems surface, and Piña and Hawk’s somewhat unconventional relationship is revealed. “The Invite” is chaotic and extremely compelling.

‘The Cycle’ (Shudder)

Horror-focused streaming service Shudder is going big this month with a large slate of originals for the Halloween season. Next up is “The Cycle,” which, as of writing, holds a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Granted, it’s from a smaller sample size of just 17 reviews, but it’s still an impressive feat and suggests that Shudder might have a future cult classic on its hands.

“The Cycle” is a horror movie, but it also leans heavily into the crime-thriller genre. It presents a compelling mystery when the body of a missing man is found at the scene of a horrific crime, 36 years after his disappearance. It falls to his estranged daughter (Deborah Ann Woll) to unravel the mystery by delving into her father’s dark past.

And given that we're the generation that grew up during the golden era of 1990s animated classics, live-action charmers, and early-2000s Disney Channel originals, millennials can find plenty of nostalgia-inducing throwbacks in Disney's extensive streaming library.

We've sorted through all of those old-school options and narrowed things down to a wistful, wonderful trio of movies that will stir up some of that sweet nostalgia. From a Halloween-ready comedy to a pet-focused tearjerker (you already know the one), here are three movies on Disney+ that will hit millennials right in the heart.

'Casper'

"Can I keep you?" Has a single line of kids' movie dialogue hit a romantic millennial heart harder? We're not sure, but it gave us all a collective crush on a young Devon Sawa, who — spoiler alert — played the human version of the kind-hearted titular ghost, Casper.

Christina Ricci's Kathleen "Kat" Harvey encounters the youthful ghoul when she and her paranormal-expert father James (Bill Pullman) move into a crumbling old mansion, after dad is hired by a spoiled heiress (Cathy Moriarty) to rid the premises of any wicked spirits and help the ghosts cross over to the "other side." Far less friendly than Casper, however, are his uncles — Stretch (voiced by Joe Nipote), Fatso (Brad Garrett) and Stinkie (Joe Alaskey) — who are determined to drive all humans away from the house.

'Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey'

Break out your Kleenex: By the end of this 1993 adventure-comedy centered on three furry friends, you will be tearing up. (But in a good way, we promise.) A remake of the 1963 film "The Incredible Journey," the heartwarming tale follows a trio of pets — playful American bulldog Chance (voiced by Michael J. Fox), pampered Himalayan cat Sassy (Sally Field), and wise old golden retriever Shadow (Don Ameche) — as they try to reunite with their human owners in San Francisco after mistakenly believing they have been left behind during a family vacation.

As they navigate the rugged California wilderness, the animals have to contend with mother bears, mountain lions, mud pits and more as they desperately work to make their way home.

'Ice Princess'

This 2005 teen-sports comedy has taken on extra poignancy in the past few years, what with the loss of its two leading ladies much too soon: Millennial icon Michelle Trachtenberg died in February 2025 at age 39, and her "Ice Princess" co-star Hayden Panettiere tragically followed this August at just 36 years old.

Here, Trachtenberg stars as brainy, Harvard-bound high schooler Casey Carlyle, who decides to revive her favorite childhood hobby, figure skating, for a physics project to secure a scholarship to the Ivy League school. She begins using mathematical algorithms generated by her computer to improve her skating, much to the chagrin of champion junior skater Gennifer "Gen" Harwood (Panettiere) and her ruthless coach of a mom, Tina (Kim Cattrall).

Now, Marvel is returning to one of its most intriguing characters for “VisionQuest,” the final chapter in the trilogy that began with “WandaVision” and continued with “Agatha All Along.” Picking up the threads left dangling by Wanda’s destroyed hex, the new series potentially sets up some fascinating developments for the wider MCU.

“VisionQuest” follows White Vision (Paul Bettany), who inherited the original Vision’s memories at the end of “WandaVision” but has spent years struggling to understand what they mean to him. Living quietly in Edinburgh, he attempts to make sense of humanity with help from the artificial intelligence programs inside his system, including Jarvis, Friday, and Edith.

However, his attempts to keep a low profile are interrupted when a bounty hunter comes looking for him. With the dangerous Ultron (James Spader) also lurking within his digital mind, Vision must confront his past.

Having watched the first two episodes on Disney+, I'm intrigued by the direction “VisionQuest” is taking, particularly its return to the questions of identity and memory that made “WandaVision” so compelling. Here are my honest thoughts on Marvel’s latest show.

‘VisionQuest’ gets off to a promising start

One of my favorite Marvel shows, and arguably the best in the MCU, is “WandaVision.” Not only did it offer something genuinely different from the usual superhero formula, but it also gave Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision a deeply personal story about grief and the lengths we go to for the people we love.

The series left plenty of unanswered questions, so I was curious to see how “VisionQuest” would pick up those threads and give its title character a story of his own. Thankfully, the first two episodes show some promise. We find the current version of Vision working in the Edinburgh pub he visited with Wanda, with glimpses of his former life suggesting that, despite his efforts to move forward, those memories still linger.

More importantly, the premiere gives this new version of Vision a clear purpose, but his journey isn't just about what happens in the outside world. One of the show’s most interesting concepts is Vision’s mindspace, a digital world inside his own mind where the AI programs stored in his system take on human forms and interact with him.

Jarvis (James D'Arcy), Friday (Orla Brady) and Edith (Emily Hampshire) are all present, while Ultron (James Spader) is kept behind a firewall due to the threat he poses. It's a fascinating way to explore Vision’s inner workings, and Ultron’s presence adds a much darker, more foreboding edge to the story.

The show also introduces Thomas (Ruaridh Mollica), a teenager and grifter who experiences panic attacks and struggles with memories of a life he doesn’t believe is his own. Those memories belong to Tommy, the son of Wanda and Vision whose soul was transferred into Thomas’ body after the events of “Agatha All Along,” when his brother Billy (Joe Locke) used his magic to bring him back.

It’s a slightly convoluted setup if you haven’t seen the previous series, but “VisionQuest” does a decent job of establishing the connection between Thomas and White Vision. Both characters are struggling to understand who they are and where they belong.

That said, I’ve already noticed one weakness in these first two episodes, and that’s how often “VisionQuest” feels the need to explain things we already know. On top of the lengthy recap of Vision’s story in the first five minutes of episode one, we’re also shown literal clips from “WandaVision” to remind us of events we’ve already seen play out.

Too many of these moments also come through conversations in which Vision sits down with someone and explains his problems, his memories and the baggage he’s carrying. It makes parts of the story feel unnecessarily repetitive, slowing down the momentum when the show should be building curiosity around this new chapter in his life.

Verdict: ‘VisionQuest’ has me curious about what comes next

Ultimately, I'm cautiously optimistic about where “VisionQuest” is heading. These first two episodes have given me enough reasons to stick around, even if I’m not entirely sold on everything the show is doing just yet. There’s a lot of potential here, particularly with a character who has spent so much of his MCU journey caught between what makes him human and what makes him a machine.

I’m also interested to see how the series handles its wider cast, especially now that several familiar faces are back in the picture and there’s an opportunity to explore some relationships from a different perspective.

What I’m hoping for most is a story that takes a few risks and gives these characters room to surprise us. The MCU has occasionally struggled to make its Disney+ shows feel essential, rather than simply filling in gaps between movies, but Vision’s story feels like it has the ingredients for something more personal and distinctive.

Hopefully, future episodes will have more confidence in their audience and find more interesting ways to explore Vision’s inner conflict without constantly stopping to explain it. Most of all, like many fans, I desperately want to see Wanda come back.

Variety reports that Disney Entertainment and Netflix have “entered into an expansive new content licensing agreement, which will bring an eclectic mix of library titles and current-season TV shows to Netflix for varying periods of time.” In simple terms, with the buzzwords removed, that means Disney+ content is being added to Netflix.

Now don’t go dreaming about getting access to Disney+’s entire library on Netflix. You won’t be streaming every season of “The Mandalorian” or the upcoming Marvel show “VisionQuest” on Netflix (or at least, not yet). Disney is bringing a curated selection of its movies and shows to Netflix between now (October 2026) and a vague “early 2027" window.

The rollout has already started, with the first two seasons of Disney+ original “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” added to Netflix over the weekend (Sunday, Oct. 4). On the same day, Netflix also got all five “Ice Age” movies, which Disney’s 20th Century Studios distributes.

These are just the tip of the iceberg (yes, that was my attempt at an “Ice Age” pun). According to Variety, over the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, the following Disney shows/movies will be added to Netflix.

Additionally, Netflix will receive a selection of Disney-owned shows that have wrapped up and are considered complete. This rollout starts with all four seasons of “Felicity” on October 7, and the ‘90s college drama will be followed by “Revenge,” “Army Wives,” “Fresh Off the Boat” and “This Is Us” (which was previously available on Netflix) at an unspecified date.

Analysis: Why Disney is playing nice with Netflix

In the current streaming landscape, the best streaming services are all competing for your monthly subscription. While many households subscribe to multiple services (as our recent streaming survey displayed), a monthly entertainment budget can only stretch so far.

Viewed through this lens, it might seem baffling that Disney would “help out” a rival, particularly one as dominant as Netflix. Disney has roughly 130 million subscribers compared to Netflix’s 325 million paying accounts. The world’s biggest streamer doesn’t need any extra help.

However, look a little closer, and this agreement starts to make more sense from Disney’s perspective. It’s no coincidence that Disney is offering Netflix a selection of ongoing shows with new seasons in the pipeline, or movies belonging to currently active franchises.

Take “Percy Jason” as an example. The show’s third season debuts on Disney+ on Nov. 20. The first two seasons on Netflix will function almost as a teaser. Disney will be hoping that viewers get hooked on the fantastical adventures of the young demigod, and then subscribe to Disney+ next month to see what happens next.

Or in the case of the “Ice Age” movies, the sixth installment, “Ice Age: Boiling Point,” arrives in theaters in February 2027. So, now's a good time to get young viewers hooked on the franchise before next year.

“Will Trent” season 5 and “Shifting Gear” season 3 are scheduled to premiere on ABC in early 2027, and “Tracker” kicked off its second season on CBS over the weekend (on Oct. 4). Disney appears to be using Netflix as a way to advertise its content to more viewers.

That leaves library titles like “Felicity” and “Revenge,” as well as the Pixar movies like “Soul” and “Elio.” These are either complete or unlikely to become larger franchises (don’t hold your breath for “Elio 2”). In this case, Disney is likely trying to maximize the return on these older/less popular shows and movies, with Netflix paying a licensing fee.

At the same time, Disney is also keeping its real crown jewels to itself. There's no hint that anything from Star Wars or Marvel will be crossing over from Disney+ to Netflix. Plus, Disney+’s library is unaffected; all these shows/movies will still be available on Disney’s service.

This agreement looks like a win-win. Netflix gets new content for its subscribers, and Disney gets to promote its ongoing series and franchises, while squeezing out a little more revenue from its back catalog.

I certainly wouldn’t have predicted this unlikely streaming partnership, but now that it’s been announced, I can see how both sides are benefiting. Plus, as viewers, it's certainly not a bad deal for us, either.

For October 2026, HBO Max is the service I’d be most comfortable cutting from my monthly bill — with one major caveat, which I'll get to in a minute. It’s home to some of the best shows on TV, but even a stellar library can’t justify another recurring charge if the current lineup isn’t giving you much reason to tune in. Here’s why HBO Max is the streaming service to cancel right now.

Why I'd cancel HBO Max this month

HBO Max is still our No. 1 pick among the best streaming services, earning an overall grade of B+ in our streaming report cards and topping the competition. So recommending that you cancel it might seem a little strange. But even one of the best streamers on the market doesn’t necessarily deserve a permanent spot on your monthly bill, especially when its latest lineup doesn’t offer enough to keep you watching.

October does have some promising additions. "War" kicks things off on Oct. 1, pulling you into the ruthless world of London's elite divorce lawyers as two rival firms battle over a high-profile split.

But like most HBO shows, "War" will air weekly (through Nov. 19). So if you're intrigued by this juicy legal drama, you might be better off waiting until the season wraps. Cancel HBO Max now, resubscribe in late November and stream the whole thing in a few nights. Honestly, a show about ruthless divorce lawyers tearing each other apart sounds tailor-made for a deliciously messy binge.

Now, here's my caveat: There is one major reason to wait a few days before canceling HBO Max. "Lanterns" season 1 wraps up on Oct. 4. If you've been following John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) through their DC superhero mystery, you'll want to stick around for the finale. My advice? Keep HBO Max through the finale, then give your wallet a break until next month.

How much you'll save by canceling HBO Max

HBO Max offers three subscription tiers, so your savings will depend on which plan you have. Canceling the Basic with Ads plan saves you $10.99 for the month, while dropping the Standard plan saves $18.49. If you're on the Premium tier, you'll pocket $22.99.

That might not seem like a lot, but the savings can really add up when you rotate through streaming services throughout the year. Skip a month here and there, and you could save hundreds of dollars without giving up the shows you want to watch. 'American Horror Story: 13'

After more than a decade and over a hundred Emmy nominations, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's horror anthology has hit a fitting milestone with its 13th season. Built around everyone's unluckiest number, it boasts an all-star cast reprising fan-favorite roles that has viewers bracing for a reunion-style victory lap through the show's past.

Over the years, "American Horror Story" has given us a murder house, a witches' coven, a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel, and the literal apocalypse, and the teasers for this one dangle a "supreme surprise" that seems tailor-made to get Coven diehards talking.

'Clown Panic'

Not every scary clown is fictional. Some may even be waiting for you out in a decrepit old cornfield. "Clown Panic" is a documentary revisiting the very real wave of creepy clown sightings that swept the country in 2016, which started when kids in a small South Carolina town swore they'd seen clowns lurking in the woods. It all got out of control from there before it transformed into a full-blown national media frenzy.

Created from real, unsettling archival footage, viral videos, and interviews with witnesses, this is a creepy and darkly funny documentary that will set the mood right, just in time for Halloween.

'VisionQuest'

Five years after "WandaVision," Paul Bettany's Vision finally gets a story of his own. "VisionQuest" closes out the trilogy that began with "WandaVision" and continued through "Agatha All Along," picking up with the rebooted White Vision, the memory-flooded version left standing at the end of "WandaVision."

Searching for a new sense of purpose, he starts consulting the AI personalities buried in his own programming, among them a returning James Spader as Ultron. It looks like a much trippier, more introspective corner of the MCU, so it looks well worth investing in, fan of the universe or not.

The ad-supported plan for Disney+ is going up to $12.49 per month from $11.99 per month while the Premium ad-free tier with support for downloads on up to 10 devices has been bumped 13% to $21.49 per month, up from $18.99.

The new price for the Premium tier is closer to what Netflix charges ($26.99 per month) for ad-free streaming on multiple devices at 4K resolution. However, it still won't be welcomed by customers increasingly squeezed across the board.

Disney is also raising the prices of some of its bundles. For example, the price of the ad-free Disney+ and Hulu bundle is increasing by $2 per month to $21.99.

Anyone subscribed to the service(s) will see the price rise on or after October 21, 2026. Exactly a year since the last price hike.

'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' (Disney+)

The vibe: More shenanigans with the galaxy's dreamiest bounty hunter and his pint-sized companion

Why you should watch it: If you ask me, this is where "The Mandalorian and Grogu" should have premiered instead of in theaters. It feels like a mini "Mandalorian" marathon retrofitted to the big screen, which might explain why it was the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie in history. Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu take on a mission for the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt (voiced by "The Bear's" Jeremy Allen White), Jabba's heir, from a rival crime syndicate to dig up some intel on an Imperial warlord. Their assignment spirals into a galaxy-spanning adventure filled with all the blaster fights and Force magic you'd expect of a Star Wars outing.

‘LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian’ (Disney+)

The vibe: Even more Mando and Grogu shenanigans (this time with LEGO!)

Why you should watch it: The LEGO video game and movie adaptations should be blatant cash grabs, but the goofy sense of humor and genuine artistry (you can tell the animators had fun!) always manage to steal my heart nonetheless. This animated special covers the entire three-season saga of "The Mandalorian," featuring a returning voice cast that includes Amy Sedaris, Rosario Dawson, Timothy Olyphant and Katee Sackhoff. And of course, plenty of LEGO Baby Yoda cuteness to melt your heart.

The vibe: A nostalgia flashbang of Adult Swim's biggest shows (and the ones we all forgot about)

Why you should watch it: If, like me, you spent your formative years staying up way to late watching "Adult Swim," this 25th anniversary special is for you. In the trailer alone, I counted like five shows I haven't thought about in years — and some, like "Assy McGee," that should have stayed forgotten. Adult Swim's weirdest characters over the years from shows like "The Venture Bros.," "Smiling Friends," and "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" all meet up on a cruise to celebrate the occasion, brought to life through claymation a la "Robot Chicken." It all culminates in a comedic whodunit that eventually lands in court, and you know Harvey Birdman's prepared to take the case.

'Smile 2' (Netflix)

The vibe: A shockingly good sequel to get you into the Halloween spirit (don't worry, you don't need to see the first to follow along)

Her comeback's thrown off course when she witnesses a horrifying death and starts to experience increasingly disturbing encounters with people who seem to be smiling at her. With her tour approaching, Skye seeks help from an emergency-room nurse who seems like the only person who understands what she’s going through — and better yet, might have the key to make it stop.

Arguably the biggest new movie is the Disney+ debut of the latest “Star Wars” adventure, “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” but I encourage you not to skip the “smaller” stuff like “Fuze,” an overlooked action-thriller with a neat twist heading over to HBO Max. Other top picks include an acclaimed drama on Netflix, an action-thriller on Prime Video and a buddy-cop adventure flick on Apple TV starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh.

There are plenty of options this week, so to save you from spending your time scrolling through streaming service libraries, I’ve collected this week’s most noteworthy new movies below. Plus, we also have a guide to the top new TV shows this week.

‘I Want Your Sex’ (PVOD)

As the name implies, “I Want Your Sex” isn’t shy about its provocative intentions. Described as an “erotic comedy-thriller,” this movie explores BDSM practices, alongside dipping into an exploration of power dynamics and eventually murder. Director Gregg Araki is not above going for shock value. However, the filmmaker's first new feature in 12 years has the substance to back up its provocativeness, with critics rating it 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

When Elliot (Cooper Hoffman) lands a coveted job as the assistant for a renowned artist, Erika Tracy (Olivia Wilde), his fantasies come true when she also takes him on as a sexual partner. But the fresh-faced Elliot finds himself out of his depth when Erika brings him into an unfamiliar world of experimental bedroom activities, which eventually leads to obsession, betrayal and even murder. Let’s just say this movie isn’t one for the family!

‘The Runner’ (Prime Video)

Prime Video is closing out its summer original slate with “The Runner,” a new British action-thriller that stars Gal Gadot. Based on the trailer, it doesn’t appear to be trying anything especially new in the genre, but it should be good for 85 minutes of adrenaline-spiking action, and it’s always great to get more female-fronted thrillers. I’m not convinced of its quality (yet), but I’m pretty confident it’ll run straight into the Prime Video top 10.

Maia Marten (Gadot) is a successful attorney living in London. What should have been an ordinary day becomes a frantic race against the clock when her son is abducted. A mysterious caller (Damian Lewis) gives her a series of cryptic commands, and Maia has to race across the city in a desperate bid to save her son. It all sounds as generic as its name, but perhaps “The Runner” will be a pleasant streaming surprise to kick off September.

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ (Disney+)

The first big-screen “Star Wars” movie in seven years arrives on Disney+ this week, and there’s a certain irony, because I’d argue “this is the way” the Mandalorian movie should be experienced. “The Mandalorian and Grogu” never felt quite at home in theaters, playing out like a condensed fourth season of “The Mandalorian” show. So, if you skipped it in cinemas, you didn’t really miss out; this movie feels made for watching on streaming.

Set between “Return of the Jedi” and “The Force Awakens,” the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and his adorable ward, Grogu (aka Baby Yoda), take on a mission for the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt (Jeremy Allen White), son of the infamous crime lord Jabba. Naturally, what was supposed to be a simple rescue job becomes a sprawling adventure in this feature-length continuation of the popular Disney+ original show.

‘The President’s Cake’ (Netflix)

If review sites like Rotten Tomatoes determine your watchlist, and you want to know which new streaming arrival this week has the highest score, I’ll cut to the chase: it’s “The President’s Cake.” This Arabic-language drama scores a near-perfect 99% rating with RT’s Critics Consensus labeling it “a tenderly crafted, often devastating portrait of childhood in rural Iraq.” It’s been praised for its complex themes and rich characters.

Set during the Gulf War, where aerial bombardments are a daily occurrence for the Iraqi people, 9-year-old Lamia (Baneen Ahmad Nayyef) and her class are selected to prepare a cake for the upcoming birthday of the country’s leader, Saddam Hussein. In a country gripped by fear and with resources scarce, Lamia sets out to a nearby city to find ingredients.

‘Scary Movie’ (Paramount+)

“Scary Movie” returned this year, and the horror-spoof series hasn’t matured with age. It remains as lowbrow as ever. Its sights are set on lampooning modern horror trends, such as legacy sequels that drop the number in their titles (hence why this isn’t called “Scary Movie 6). Targets this time include recent genre hits like “Weapons,” “Sinners,” “Get Out” and “The Substance,” alongside poking fun at the series favorite target, “Scream.”

2026’s “Scary Movie” also marks the return of the Wayans, who originally left the franchise after 2002’s “Scary Movie 2.” Also back are stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall. The plot is simple, as you would expect from the franchise, and is merely a vehicle to cram in as many parodies and references as possible. In 2026, “Scary Movie” feels a little outdated, but those who long for the days when parody movies were released regularly might see this as a fun throwback.

‘Fuze’ (HBO Max)

Director David Mackenzie, the filmmaker behind last year’s excellent thriller “Relay,” is back in the genre already with “Fuze.” This crime-thriller doesn’t reach the same heights, but with an audacious heist at its core, it’s a movie that will keep you hooked. Plus, if you’re the type of person who demands shocking twists, I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I can confirm there’s a big reveal in “Fuze” that totally flips the script.

Set in present-day London, a portion of the city is forced to evacuate when an unexploded World War II bomb is discovered on a construction site. Among the military squad called in to defuse the bomb is Major Will Tranter (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). However, in the chaos, a group of criminals led by Giorgos "George" Karalis (Theo James) uses the evacuation as a distraction to pull off a bank heist. But as the authorities circle, alliances are questioned and morals tested.

‘Mayday’ (Apple TV)

Apple TV has earned a reputation for quality original series in recent years, but it’s yet to find the same success with its direct-to-streaming movies. Perhaps “Mayday” could be the start of a hot streak in this area, as this Apple original movie features a solid pairing of Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. At the very least, it can’t be as bad as “Ghosted,” right?

Apple is labeling “Mayday” a “genre-bending, action-packed buddy comedy that flips the spy thriller on its head,” which reads like marketing buzzword bingo. In this Apple original, Reynolds plays a hotshot U.S. Navy pilot, assigned to a top-secret mission in Russian territory during the height of the Cold War. When the mission goes wrong, he’s stuck behind enemy lines, but finds an unexpected ally in an ex-KGB agent (Branagh), who is obsessed with American culture.

We’re grading these across pricing, library, original content, and more, without considering the ESPN/Live TV add-on to see how strong they are both individually and when combined as a bundle. I use both services regularly, and while they may not command quite the same attention as Netflix or Prime Video, they’re still very much streaming staples (particularly if you’re into Disney’s biggest franchises or Hulu’s wealth of content).

We're diving into Disney+ and Hulu today to evaluate whether they still hold their spot as top-tier streaming platforms or if rival services are officially leaving them in the dust.

Pricing

Disney+ and Hulu are among the better-priced streaming services, particularly when you look at what you get for your money. On their own, both Disney+ and Hulu start at $11.99 a month with ads, but the real bargain is the Disney+ and Hulu bundle, which costs $12.99 a month. That’s just $1 more than either service individually, while getting you both libraries, and works out to $10.99 less per month than subscribing to the two ad-supported services separately.

The premium bundle is similarly compelling at $19.99 a month, saving you $17.99 every month compared with paying $18.99 for each service individually.

For families, this is particularly easy to justify. Disney+ gives you the big Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars franchises, while Hulu fills in the gaps with a much broader selection of TV, movies and FX content. If you use both regularly, there’s very little reason to pay for them separately. The bundle is easily the best-value way to get the most out of both services, and even the ad-supported tier gives you plenty for the price.

Grade: A

Library

Over the past 12 months, Disney+ and Hulu’s libraries are arguably at their best when you look beyond their originals. Disney+ has the obvious advantage of being the home for Disney’s biggest brands, but it also regularly brings major theatrical releases to streaming once their cinema runs are over. Over the past year, that has included movies such as “Hoppers,” “Predator: Badlands,” and “Avatar: Fire and Ash,”, alongside Disney-owned franchises and older favorites.

Hulu, meanwhile, is where things get particularly interesting. Its library is much broader, with a steady stream of licensed movies sitting alongside Disney-owned titles. Recent additions have included “Jurassic Park,” “Despicable Me 2,” “All of Us Strangers” and “Greedy People,” showing that you’re not limited to Disney’s own catalogue. Hulu also benefits from Disney’s relationships with other studios, meaning it can sometimes land recent theatrical movies before rival streaming services.

The result is a library that works for far more than just Disney fans. Disney+ brings the major franchises, while Hulu fills in the gaps with adult dramas, comedies, and licensed movies. That variety is arguably their biggest strength.

Grade: B+

Originals

Disney+ and Hulu have had a pretty strong year for original content, although their strengths are very different. Disney+ has continued to lean heavily on its biggest franchises, with “Daredevil: Born Again season 2,” “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” season 2, “Wonder Man” and “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” giving subscribers plenty of recognizable names to latch onto. “Wonder Man” was even one of Disney+’s most-watched original series of 2026 so far, showing that the Marvel brand can still bring people in.

Hulu is where I think the pairing becomes much more interesting. Its original slate is more varied, with FX productions, documentaries, comedy and dramas sitting alongside Hulu-branded shows. “Alien: Earth,” “Only Murders in the Building” season 5, “The Shards,” “Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice” and “Paradise” season 2 are just some of the originals added during the 12-month period. And honestly, they were all great.

There are definitely some misses (like “All’s Fair” and “Chad Powers” for example), but between Disney+’s franchise appeal and Hulu’s broader approach, there’s enough here to keep most subscribers interested, especially families looking for a wider range of content. Together, they make a much stronger original-content proposition than either service does alone.

Grade: B

Interface

The Disney+ interface is generally clean and easy to navigate, but bringing Hulu into the mix can make the experience feel more cluttered than it needs to be. Disney+ has done a good job creating dedicated hubs for its biggest brands, including Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar, but the sheer amount of Hulu content can make the homepage feel busier, particularly when recommendations and trending titles start mixing together. It can be difficult to separate Disney+ and Hulu content, especially when they open the app specifically looking for Disney’s franchises.

Hulu’s interface doesn’t quite make up for this, either. While it’s perfectly functional, the sluggish scrolling, slower loading and problems with titles sticking around in the “Continue Watching” row after they’ve already been finished. That can make browsing feel more frustrating than it should, especially when Hulu’s library is already so large.

The good news is that this should improve as Disney continues moving toward a unified Disney+/Hulu experience. For now, though, the combination can feel like two very different services awkwardly sharing the same space, rather than one seamless streaming platform.
