For starters, Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” series is getting a novel companion piece in the form of “LEGO One Piece,” a two-part special that recaps the events of the flagship show’s first two seasons, but in charming plastic brick form. Meanwhile, true crime fans won’t want to miss “The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part,” which chronicles a real-life story of lies, manipulation, betrayal, and of course, murder.

October 1 sees a wealth of new arrivals on Netflix; the biggest is the debut of the streamer’s series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s “East of Eden,” which has been turned into a sprawling drama starring Florence Pugh. Plus, the platform’s movie library gets a big boost on the same day, with fresh additions including the entire “Jason Bourne” franchise. Naturally, newcomers should start with “The Bourne Identity,” Damon’s debut as the superspy.

Rounding out my picks this week is “Tyler Perry’s Doing Life,” the filmmaker's latest in a long list of collaborations with Netflix. It’s a romantic drama about an unexpected romance between a single mom and a reformed convict who once saved her life during a prison riot.

Why you should watch it: Netflix subscribers gobble up true crime like candy, and the streamer always ensures a steady stream of new options for viewers desperate for all the grisly details. There’s nothing to suggest that “The Widower” will offer anything new for true crime nuts. However, if shocking stories of murder, deceit and manipulation pique your interest, it’s a doc that offers all the sordid details of an unsettling real-life murder case.

‘East of Eden’

What it's about: Based on John Steinbeck’s acclaimed novel of the same name, “East of Eden” is a sprawling tale set over multiple generations, weaving together the stories of the Trask and Hamilton families as they settle in California’s Salinas Valley.

Why you should watch it: One of Netflix’s flagship shows of the fall season, “East of Eden” has caught my attention not only because of its strong source material, but primarily, thanks to the impressive cast. Headlined by Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, the Netflix original drama also stars Mike Faist, Christopher Abbott, and Ciarán Hinds.

‘The Bourne Identity’

What it's about: Fishermen pull a bullet-ridden body from the ocean and are stunned to discover the man (Matt Damon) is still alive. Suffering from amnesia, unable to recall his past or identity, he discovers he possesses lethal skills that point to a dangerous profession. Setting off on a journey to unfog his memory, he is targeted by a secretive agency that wants him dead.

Why you should watch it: Netflix is adding the complete Jason Bourne collection at the start of October. Later sequels are fairly lackluster, but the initial Bourne trilogy remains excellent. It was a grittier espionage alternative to the camp tone of the Bond franchise at the time (“Identity” released the same year as the panned “Die Another Day”). “The Bourne Identity” kicks off the series in some style, introducing Damon’s iconic hero.

'Tyler Perry’s Doing Life'

What it's about: Tyler Perry’s latest Netflix project is “Doing Life,” a romantic drama movie starring Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves. Perry writes and directs, and the flick sees a single mother, who once worked as a prison officer (Baker), form an unexpected bond with a reformed ex-convict (Reeves), who previously saved her life during a violent prison riot.

Why you should watch it: I've referred to Terry Perry as “the streaming whisper” in the past because the actor/filmmaker seems to have a strong grasp on what viewers want. Even when his projects aren’t critically acclaimed, subscribers flock to them. “Doing Life” also marks his third Netflix movie of 2026 after “Why Did I Get Married Again?” and “Joe’s College Road Trip.” It’s not the last either; Perry has a holiday movie due later this year.

One of the music industry's biggest and most-watched annual awards show kicks off tonight: the MTV Video Music Awards. This year's VMAs will be hosted by Snoop Dogg and open with the first VMAs performance from Madonna in 23 years. Between her 11 nominations and Taylor Swift’s nine for "The Life of a Showgirl," they're the two artists to watch this evening.

But while plenty of viewers tune in to see who takes home the iconic “Moonman” statuettes, the red carpet is just as much a part of the fun. Every year, the VMAs bring out plenty of glamorous and downright unforgettable looks as celebrities strut the step-and-repeat red carpet each year.

Lanterns season 1 (HBO Max)

Genre: Superhero flick meets old-fashioned buddy action comedy

What's it about? Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star as Green Lanterns from different generations in this acclaimed eight-episode DC drama. The age gap creates a fun "kids these days" dynamic between their characters, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Veteran Lantern Jordan is stuck with mentoring rookie recruit Stewart as the pair sets out to solve a murder in the heartland. But this a superhero show, after all, so any murder mystery worth its salt is gonna take a cosmic turn at some point.

Why you should watch it: I've been living under a rock when it comes to the DC heroes, but between the tour de force of Aaron Pierre and series co-creator Damon Lindelof, the mind behind HBO's incredible "Watchmen" show, and all the praise my coworkers have been shoveling onto this show, I was finally convinced to take the plunge. And I'm happy I did. This week is the last episode before the finale, so there's still time to catch up.

‘A Tale of Two Cities' (MGM+)

Genre: Historical drama limited series

What it's about: Set in London in 1782, "A Tale of Two Cities" follows Lucie Manette (Mirren Mack), who discovers that her long-thought-dead father may be alive after all. But when the messenger who brings her this news, Charles Darnay (François Civil), gets arrested, she turns to troubled lawyer Carton (Kit Harington) for help. Together, they set out to free Charles and resume her search for her father as the French Revolution builds too a fever pitch around them.

Why you should watch it: Reviews so far have been pretty positive for the first small-screen adaptation of Charles Dickens' seminal novel in almost four decades. It's got an 86% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and this week's the last episode before the finale. It has all the hallmarks of a classic Dickens tale: a colorful cast of characters, tantalizing cliffhangers, and sharp social commentary.

Hulu's added plenty of new movies to choose from this month, but you don't have to go sorting through them all to find the good stuff. I've already done the hard work for you, rounding up three movies that make particularly good Sunday-night viewing. That includes one of the best movie musical adaptations in decades, "Wicked," Timothée Chalamet’s charming turn as Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown," and a slept-on comedy/horror from Laika called "Paranorman."

These movies are perfect for keeping those Monday blues at bay, so let's dive into the best feel-good movies on Hulu to watch right now.

'Wicked' (2024)

"Wicked" is everything a movie musical adaptation should be, and now that it's on Hulu, it's the perfect time to indulge your inner theater nerd. Based on the Broadway production of the same name, “Wicked” tells the untold story of some of the key players in "The Wizard of Oz" years before Dorothy blew into town.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will blow you away as Elphaba, an outcast with green skin and supernatural powers, and Glinda, the uber-popular socialite used to getting her way, respectively. The two butt heads at the prestigious Shiz University while studying magic before eventually becoming close friends and heading off to meet the Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City, where their lives and the history of this fantastical land are changed for good.

'A Complete Unknown' (2025)

James Mangold's musical biopic went home empty-handed at the Oscars despite being nominated for eight awards, but even with that snub, "A Complete Unknown" is worth watching for Timothée Chalamet’s leading performance as Bob Dylan alone. It even earned the "Dune" star the Best Actor trophy at the SAG Awards.

Opening in 1961, "A Complete Unknown" follows the legendary musician’s rise to fame after arriving in the Big Apple with nothing to his name but a guitar and a dream. As his career takes off, he goes from Woody Guthrie (Scoot McNairy) acolyte to folk icon, drawing in huge crowds with his soulful writing and magnetic stage presence. But his rocky relationship with (fictional) girlfriend Sylvie Russo (Elle Fanning) and even rockier partnership with Joan Baez (Monica Barbaro) threaten to derail his career just as it's taking off.

'ParaNorman' (2012)

I'm a huge animation fan, and Laika makes the most beautiful and poignant stories in stop-motion there are. I'm stoked to see their latest "Wildwood" in theaters on October 23, but until then, you can catch two of their greatest hits freshly added to Hulu this month. You've probably already heard of "Coraline," so I wanted to shout out one of my favorites that rarely gets the same flowers: "Paranorman."

Any grown-up weird kid can relate to Norman (Kodi Smit-McPhee), a shy 11-year-old who's just trying to keep his head down and survive middle school, but his ability to speak to the dead doesn't exactly help in fit in. The bullying get worse after he has a nightmarish vision of his hometown's past during a school play. When zombie puritans overrun the town, it's up to Norman and his friends to right a centuries-old witch hunt that killed a little girl, one of his ancestors and another misfit like him.

Pattinson’s busy 2026 continues with “Primetime,” where he plays television host Chris Hansen in a dramatized story inspired by “To Catch a Predator.” Pattinson’s performance is generating significant Oscar buzz, so expect him to be a major player this awards season.

In honor of his new movie, here are the seven best Pattinson movies to watch. Since many of you have not seen “Primetime,” we left it off the list.

7. ‘Twilight’

Admittedly, I am not a “Twilight” guy. However, it’s difficult to keep what is arguably Pattinson’s most famous role off a best-of list. The actor leaped into superstardom as Edward Cullen, the 105-year-old vampire posing as a high school student in Washington. Edward falls in love with 17-year-old Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), but he soon must protect her from a group of vampires trying to kill her.

Considering where Pattinson’s career has ended up, it’s almost shocking to see him star in an adaptation of a young adult fantasy novel. That being said, Edward Cullen means the world to a certain generation, and “Twilight” established Pattinson as a leading man capable of handling a massive franchise.

6. ‘The Drama’

In the social media era, avoiding spoilers is nearly impossible. For many new releases, you have to stay off X and Instagram for fear of seeing a post that reveals a major plot point. Somehow, the internet remained quiet about the twist in “The Drama” during its opening weekend, making for an effective viewing experience.

Charlie Thompson (Pattinson) is set to marry his perfect woman, Emma Harwood (Zendaya). During a conversation with friends, Emma reveals a secret that puts Charlie in an uncomfortable position, testing his love for her. I laughed and cringed so many times while watching “The Drama.” It’s one of the more thought-provoking movies of 2026, especially if you’re in a relationship. Pattinson brilliantly captures the anxiety and uneasiness Charlie feels after learning Emma’s secret. It’s not an easy role, but Pattinson’s bravery shines.

5. ‘Tenet’

I gave up trying to understand “Tenet,” Christopher Nolan’s espionage thriller released at the height of the pandemic. Even Nolan, who penned the script, believes viewers don’t have to grasp every concept in the movie. What I do know is this: “Tenet” is about vibes, and Pattinson’s Neil is as cool as a cucumber.

“Tenet” is what happens when the director of “Memento” and “Inception” wants a James Bond movie that defies the laws of physics. Neil and the Protagonist (John David Washington) work together on a mission that requires traveling back in time to prevent a future war. When watching “Tenet,” don’t think; instead, feel it. Let the movie come to you, and you’re rewarded with a unique spy saga that has aged well.

4. ‘The Lighthouse'

Pattinson loves to get weird. The more peculiar the story, the more likely Pattinson is to join. If Pattinson can do a different voice, it’s a wrap — he’s making the movie. In 2019, Pattinson starred alongside Willem Dafoe in “The Lighthouse,” Robert Eggers’ fantasy horror set in the 1890s.

On a secluded island off the coast of New England, Ephraim Winslow (Pattinson) is hired to work the lighthouse under the tutelage of sailor Thomas Wake (Dafoe). The more time Winslow spends on the island, the more he descends into madness. Eggers’ second feature film is a wild psychological horror rooted in mythology that has much to say about isolationism, sexuality, and dominance. Pattinson and Dafoe throw caution to the wind as they deliver exceptionally bold performances. Eggers wins the movie, but Pattinson and Dafoe prove their acting ranges have no limits.

3. ‘The Batman'

If “Twilight” defined the first half of Pattinson’s career, “The Batman” will represent the next stage. In 2022, Pattinson starred as Bruce Wayne in “The Batman,” his first solo outing as the Dark Knight. Matt Reeves’ Batman movie begins with the titular superhero roughly two years into his vigilante career.

Corruption runs rampant in Gotham, as the mysterious Riddler (Paul Dano) targets some of the city’s most prestigious individuals. With the help of Lt. Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), Batman investigates a string of murders in hopes of stopping the Riddler before the city plunges into chaos. It’s still too early to tell where Pattinson ranks among the actors to portray Batman. That being said, I enjoy Pattinson’s “Sad Boy” version of Bruce Wayne. The moody and restrained performance worked for me, and I hope to see more of it in “The Batman Part II.”

2. ‘The Odyssey’

It’s only been two months since the release of “The Odyssey,” and I already believe it will go down as one of Pattinson’s finest performances. Nolan’s epic film captivated the world; it set numerous box office records, including the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever ($1.7 billion worldwide and counting). Based on Homer’s famous poem, “The Odyssey” follows Odysseus (Matt Damon), the king of Ithaca, as he embarks on a treacherous journey home after the Trojan War.

Pattinson has the hardest job in the movie as Antinous, one of the suitors vying to marry Odysseus’s wife, Penelope (Anne Hathaway). Antinous is a two-faced coward who will lie and cheat to get what he wants. The character has no redeeming qualities. Not every actor wants to play, for lack of a better word, a loser. Remember that Pattinson is fearless, and his scenes steal the movie. While “Primetime” will be his Oscar play, I hope Universal gives Pattinson a strong supporting campaign for “The Odyssey.” Plus, he gave us the meme of the year.

1. ‘Good Time’

Pattinson linked up with the Safdie Brothers for 2017’s “Good Time,” a tense crime thriller that never takes its foot off the gas. After a botched robbery, Connie (Pattinson) races to pull together enough money to secure a bail bond to get his disabled brother (Benny Safdie) out of jail. Botched drug deals, violent encounters, and police evasion are some of the chaotic elements that plague Connie’s overnight journey.

Out of all the movies on this list, “Good Time” truly changed my perception of Pattinson. I thought he would always be the heartthrob from “Twilight,” anchoring popular franchises and caring more about box office success than critical acclaim. Hand up, I could not have been more wrong. Pattinson chose to work with the Safdie Brothers, who were largely unknown to mainstream audiences. The Safdies then wrote “Good Time” for Pattinson. That is the perfect example of using movie stardom for the greater good.

The moment I discovered that “Trying” season 5 was out, I dropped everything and got down to binge-watching. Within a single day, I’d consumed all eight episodes. That speaks to the easygoing nature of Apple TV’s best comfort watch. And yes, that’s a shot at “Ted Lasso.” The optimistic soccer coach might get all the press, but real ones know that “Trying” is actually the most charming show on the platform. It's a simple series, but so very sweet.

For those out of the loop, “Trying” follows a young(ish) couple, Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall), who enter the world of adoption after difficulties conceiving a child. With their eccentric friends and family in tow, they navigate the lengthy process while trying to prove they're grown-up enough to handle the responsibilities that come with being parents.

Across its first four seasons, “Trying” struck a perfect balance between good-natured comedy and a sensitive exploration of deeper issues, like the challenges of the adoption process. In season 5, you'll find more of the same. But that's not a criticism. “Trying” isn’t a show that thrives on shocking mid-series twists, and as a viewer since day one, that’s exactly why I love it.

‘Trying’ remains sugary sweet (even if it’s losing some steam)

“Trying” season 5 briskly picks up in the wake of season 4’s cliffhanger that saw Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler’s (Cooper Turner) biological mom, Kat (Charlotte Riley), show up on the doorstep of Nikki and Jason’s London home. The focus of the fifth season is largely on Princess’ attempts to connect with her long-absent biological mother and how Nikki handles this new family dynamic (oddly, Kat seems entirely disinterested in her son, and vice versa).

Another plot point sees recurring character Scott (Darren Boyd) attempting to row the Atlantic Ocean single-handedly. “Trying” fans know that Scott’s hairbrained schemes never really work out, so unsurprisingly this latest one quickly falls apart. Scott and Sian Brooke's Karen continue to be a highlight, taking the spotlight in the season's best episode, "The Hurricane"

Overall, it’s an unambitious season of television. The core cast is unchanged, aside from Kat, who was already introduced in a season 4 episode. There is little noticeable character development, and the overarching plot barely develops between episodes. But “Trying” was never about grand multi-episode arcs. It’s a show of simple moments between likeable characters, and in this area, “Trying” season 5 maintains the show’s overall consistency.

The show's dependable gentle comedy is here in spades, and the banter between Nikki and Jason remains one of “Trying’s” biggest strengths. However, a short-lived arc in which Nikki develops a crush on her attractive new co-worker feels ill-judged. Meritfully, it’s wrapped up without melodrama.

For the more cynical viewers, there is an argument to be made that “Trying” season 5 fails to justify its own existence. By the end, most characters are in the same spot where they began, and the new story arcs that have sprung up are resolved quickly, or even discarded, such as Jason’s new career training to be a social worker, which amounts to very little over the course of the season.

I also couldn’t help but notice that “Trying” season 5 doesn’t end with a cliffhanger of its own. Instead, the final scene feels more like a series finale, rather than just the latest chapter coming to an end. I won’t be surprised if “Trying” season 5 marks the end of the show.

If that is the case, I’m content. We got five seasons of a show that never conquered the mainstream in the way “Ted Lasso” did. It feels like a bit of a miracle we got to spend so much time with Nikki and Jason in a streaming era where unceremonious cancellations are commonplace. And it’s clear at this point that “Trying” has little road left to run. Nikki and Jason have their family and have proved more than capable of providing a loving home.

‘War Machine’ (2017)

Earlier this year, Netflix released “War Machine,” an original sci-fi action movie with Alan Ritchson. It created some confusion because the streamer previously released an original movie called “War Machine” in 2017. Granted, this satirical comedy isn’t exactly memorable, and its lukewarm critical reception saw it fade from the spotlight fast. But at present it’s the only Brad Pitt movie available on Netflix, so it wins the spot in this roundup by default.

Based on Michael Hastings’ non-fiction book, “The Operators,” the movie tells the fictional story of a decorated U.S. military general, Glen McMahon (Pitt), who is dispatched to Afghanistan to “clean up” the situation, eight years into the war effort. Once on the ground, he faces resistance from beleaguered soldiers, stuffy bureaucrats, and a cynical journalist (Scoot McNairy), who is planning a no-holds-barred exposé that could bring McMahon down.

Best Brad Pitt movie on Prime Video

‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ (2019)

Quentin Tarantino’s latest feature, “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” isn’t my favorite movie of his acclaimed filmography, but it might just be his most entertaining. Plus, now is a great time to watch, as Pitt’s character, Cliff Booth, is set to return later this year in a spinoff sequel, “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,” which debuts on Netflix this December. “Hollywood” is Tarantino’s tribute to classic cinema and the era of larger-than-life movie stars. Pitt also won his first Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance as Booth.

Opening in the 1960s, Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), a former Western TV star who made the jump to the silver screen, struggles to cope with his fading career as the Los Angeles landscape shifts around him. But at his side is his stunt double and close friend, Cliff Booth (Pitt). The two navigate shifting studio dynamics and A-list egos, while also encountering the infamous Charles Mason (Damon Herriman) and his devoted followers.

Best Brad Pitt movie on Apple TV

‘F1’ (2025)

Director Joseph Kosinski proved his ability to capture fast-moving vehicular spectacle with “Top Gun: Maverick,” and the filmmaker followed it up with “F1,” a breakneck sports drama made in collaboration with Formula One. This gives the movie an impressive sense of authenticity, and also a whole truckload of unsubtle product placement. But still, if you want to see Pitt drive some very fast cars, it offers some of the best racing sequences around.

Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a washed-up racer who is a whizz behind the wheel but who never lived up to his true potential. He’s given an unexpected shot at the big time when the struggling APXGP team recruits him as their new driver for the upcoming F1 season. Paired with an ambitious but arrogant rookie (Damon Herriman), “F1” is a basic underdog story that follows all the conventions of the sports drama genre but looks darn good doing it.

Best Brad Pitt movie on Hulu

‘Inglourious Basterds’ (2009)

Pitt’s first collaboration with Quentin Tarantino came in “Inglourious Basterds,” and to borrow a phrase from his character, Lieutenant Aldo Raine, it “might just be [his] masterpiece.” This sprawling WWII movie plays fast-and-loose with historical fact, but Tarantino delivers a movie that is thrilling, funny, compelling and tragic. Plus, while Pitt deserves his flowers for his work here, it’s Christoph Waltz who steals the show, playing a despicable villain.

The flick tells two intertwining stories: One sees a French cinema owner, Shosanna (Mélanie Laurent), seek revenge after her Jewish family is murdered by SS officer Hans Landa (Waltz), while the other centers on Lt. Aldo Raine (Pitt), who leads a band of American soldiers behind enemy lines to seek retribution for the German army's war crimes. These two plotlines eventually converge as a daring plot to bring down the Third Reich is sprung. Earlier this year, Quentin Tarantino labeled “Inglourious Basterds” his “masterpiece,” and I certainly don’t disagree with the celebrated director.

Best Brad Pitt movie on Paramount+

‘Seven’ (1995)

Paramount+ is the current streaming home of my personal favorite Brad Pitt movie. In fact, “Seven” is my favorite crime thriller of all time, which is saying something, as I’m a thriller fanatic. Directed by David Fincher (also my favorite director — yes, I’ve used the word favorite a lot!), It’s a dark mystery flick that brings together Fincher’s trademark style with a twisting plot and one of the most shocking (and unsettling) endings in movie history.

Set in an oppressive city, detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) is just a week from retirement when he’s paired with the younger and overly-confident David Mills (Pitt). The two are assigned to investigate a gruesome murder, which quickly spirals into a manhunt for a serial killer who is committing crimes based on the seven deadly sins. If you somehow don’t know how this one ends, then stop reading this article and stream it ASAP.

Best Brad Pitt movie on HBO Max

‘Interview with the Vampire’ (1994)

Before the successful TV series on AMC, there was 1996’s “Interview with the Vampire,” a ‘90s gothic horror movie and one of Pitt’s earlier celebrated roles. Based on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel and also starring Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater and Kristen Dunst (talk about an impressive cast!), it’s an intriguing tale set over multiple decades that explores what it means to be a creature of the night when morals conflict with a monstrous nature.

Louis de Pointe du Lac (Pitt) is an 18th-century lord whose encounter with a vampire named Lestat (Cruise) changes his life. At his lowest, Louis accepts Lestat’s offer of being turned into a bloodsucker, but quickly comes to regret the decision. He attempts to forgo giving in to his violent impulses and plans to abandon his creator. But when Lestat turns a young girl (Dunst), Louis feels compelled to stay and serve as her protector. The story unfolds via flashbacks, as Louis is interviewed by a journalist (Slater), hence the title!

Best Brad Pitt movie on Disney+

‘Deadpool 2’ (2018)

“Deadpool 2” qualifies for this list on something of a technicality. Yes, Pitt does appear in his superhero sequel, but he plays an invisible character. His actual on-screen time can be measured in mere seconds. But hey, even if Pitt’s appearance is minimal, “Deadpool 2” is still a movie worth watching. And fun fact: Pitt was originally considered for the much larger role of Cable, but scheduling conflicts got in the way. Josh Brolin took on the part instead.

Released when Deadpool was still part of the Fox Marvel Universe, the sequel sees Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) become the reluctant protector of a young mutant, Russell (Julian Dennison), who is being hunted by a time-travelling mercenary who believes that killing the youngster will change the future and therefore save his wife and daughter. It’s a quippy, action-packed follow-up, with the larger budget over its predecessor put to good use.

‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ (October 9)

“Avatar: Seven Havens” is the third animated series in the “Avatar” franchise, following the hugely popular “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra.” The new series has already been ordered for two seasons, with 26 half-hour episodes planned in total. Visually, it looks like it’s taking the franchise in a very different direction, moving away from the more grounded look of its predecessors. The creators have noted its angular character designs, vibrant colors and huge fantasy landscapes. It looks like a pretty bold change for the franchise, but I’m definitely curious to see how it all comes together.

This new series follows Pavi (Saheli Khan), a young Earthbender who discovers she is the newest Avatar. But this is a very different world from the one previous Avatars knew. A devastating cataclysm has left civilization fractured, with the Seven Havens serving as humanity’s last remaining strongholds. Pavi is hunted by both humans and spirits, who see the Avatar as a threat rather than a protector. Alongside her long-lost twin Nisha (Aishu Devan) and her companions, Pavi sets out to uncover the truth about their mysterious origins while attempting to protect the Seven Havens.

‘Tulsa King’ season 4 (October 16)

“Tulsa King” season 4 continues the crime drama with Sylvester Stallone back as the New York mobster who finds himself building a new criminal empire in Oklahoma. The show has become one of Paramount’s biggest series, and it’s easy to see why. Stallone brings plenty of personality to the role, while the series balances its crime story with plenty of humor and entertaining character moments. With Sheridan behind the series, it also sits within the wider world of his crime and Western-inspired shows, although you don’t need to have watched the rest of his work to enjoy it.

Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) returns in Season 4 of “Tulsa King” as he attempts to take his criminal operation to the next level. After building an empire in Tulsa, Dwight now wants to make his business legitimate while continuing to protect the people closest to him. However, his plans are complicated by corrupt politicians, dangerous new enemies and a devastating personal loss. As pressure builds from multiple directions, Dwight finds himself relying more heavily on the instincts that helped him survive his years in the New York mob.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ season 2 (October 30)

“Dexter: Resurrection” season 2 is Showtime’s continuation of the “Dexter” story, with Michael C. Hall returning as the titular character. The new season is set to arrive just in time for Halloween, making it a pretty fitting addition to the spooky season watchlist. Original “Dexter” showrunner Clyde Phillips is also back as showrunner and executive producer, working alongside Hall and Scott Reynolds. It already looks set to bring plenty of crime, suspense and the dark humor that fans of the franchise have come to expect.

Season 2 of “Dexter: Resurrection” picks up three years after the events of the first season, with Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) once again drawn into a dangerous hunt involving multiple killers in New York. He finds himself up against Lucas Stark (Dan Stevens), known as the Five Borough Killer, who is carrying out murders across the city, while the infamous New York Ripper also resurfaces. Meanwhile, Dexter’s son Harrison (Jack Alcott) is now 21 and has joined the NYPD, putting him closer to his father’s dangerous world. Gabriel Luna also joins the cast as Ray Ballard, a killer who terrorizes victims before attacking them.

‘Carrie’ (October 7)

One of my most anticipated shows of fall 2026 has to be “Carrie,” the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic 1974 debut novel. This eight-episode series is being developed by Mike Flanagan, who is taking the familiar story and expanding it into a longer-form TV series. The original novel used things like news reports, transcripts and excerpts from other documents to tell Carrie’s story, and the new series looks set to play with that idea in its own way. Rather than simply retelling the story we already know, the series will explore Carrie’s powers and the events surrounding them from a wider perspective.

Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) is a sheltered high-school student who has spent most of her life isolated at home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden death, Carrie begins attending public school, where she becomes caught up in a bullying scandal that spreads throughout her community. At the same time, Carrie discovers that she has mysterious telekinetic abilities that are becoming increasingly difficult to control. The eight-episode series follows Carrie and the people around her as events build toward a devastating night.

‘Love Of Your Life’ (October 14)

“Love of Your Life” is a romantic drama that follows a sweeping love story across several years and different parts of the world. Instead of being another straightforward rom-com in Prime Video’s library, the movie focuses more on how relationships change over time and how people try to move forward after major life changes and personal loss. Directed by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison, the movie puts a lot of emphasis on its emotional story, making this one for anyone in the mood for something a little more heartfelt.

Maya (Margaret Qualley) is a nurse whose chance encounter with Charlie (Gabriel Basso) leads to an unexpected romance and a future neither of them could have predicted. As their relationship develops, Maya builds a life with Charlie, but that future is suddenly shattered, leaving her to navigate a completely different chapter of her life. Years later, Maya finds herself facing new relationships, experiences and difficult choices as she tries to figure out what comes next. The film also stars Aaron Pierre, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Catherine Keener.

‘Helluva Boss’ season 3 (October 14)

“Helluva Boss” is returning for season 3 this month, and it’s set to be the show’s biggest season yet. The adult animated dark comedy started out as an independent web series before making the jump to a major streaming production, and the new season will also be its longest so far with 15 episodes. The first seven episodes will arrive on October 14, with the remaining eight following in 2027. Expect the same colorful animation, chaotic humor, over-the-top violence and plenty of very adult jokes that fans have come to expect from the series.

Season 3 of “Helluva Boss” picks up with Blitzo (Brandon Rogers) and the I.M.P. crew continuing their assassination jobs across Earth and Hell. As the team takes on increasingly chaotic assignments, their personal lives become more complicated. Blitzo and Stolas (Bryce Pinkham) are forced to figure out their relationship, while Moxxie (Richard Horvitz) and Millie (Vivian Nixon Williams) prepare for a major change in their lives. Loona (Erica Lindbeck) also takes on a bigger role within I.M.P. Meanwhile, old enemies return and new opportunities crop up, creating fresh problems for the group.

‘Masterplan’ (October 16)

If you’re in the mood for something a little more intense but still a lot of fun, “Masterplan” is worth adding to your watchlist. This action thriller follows a global heist and is Amazon’s first major Franco-Italian co-production to be filmed in English. Shot across France and Italy, the movie has plenty of slick action and a European crime caper feel. It was also co-produced with legendary French studio Gaumont, which gives the whole thing a polished, international feel that should appeal to fans of stylish heist movies.

“Masterplan” follows a legendary thief, Roger (Stanley Tucci), who sets his sights on stealing the Mona Lisa from the Louvre. To pull off the ambitious heist, he recruits Chiara (Simona Tabasco), a skilled Italian cybercrime expert, and Jay (Victor Belmondo), a French explosives specialist. However, the pair soon discover that they are actually long-lost siblings and that their mysterious employer is their father. With the trio thrown together for the first time, they must put their differences aside and work as a team if they want to successfully carry out the elaborate robbery.

‘The Terminal List’ season 2 (October 21)

Another show returning with a new season is “The Terminal List.” After a four-year wait following the first season’s 2022 debut, the military action-thriller is finally back, this time adapting Jack Carr’s second novel, “True Believer.” The new season takes the story far beyond the events of the first, with James Reece caught up in an international conspiracy that takes him across the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Middle East and Europe. The show is also taking its military detail seriously, with former Navy SEALs and special forces veterans involved throughout the production. It makes the show even more compelling.

Season 2 picks up with James Reece (Chris Pratt) after he has completed his revenge mission and is searching for a new purpose. His situation changes when the CIA corners him and offers a deal: clear his name by helping stop a resurgent terrorist group that has recruited one of his former allies. Reece is drawn into a globe-spanning operation that takes him from the Indian Ocean through Africa, the Middle East and Europe. Soon, he discovers a larger conspiracy stretching from Moscow to Langley, with unexpected connections to his own family history.

This perfect napping weather has me hitting couch-potato levels of productivity, an Apple TV is home to many charming TV shows you can binge in a weekend. Whether you're looking for a cozy mystery with some gorgeous Irish scenery (and deliciously messy sibling dynamics) or a heartwarming drama about adult friendships, there's something for everyone's watchlist.

Ones like "Ted Lasso" get thrown around so much, I thought I'd skip the obvious suggestions you may have already heard about or watched. And keep in mind, a "cozy" show doesn't always mean cozy subject matter. In this age of true crime obsession and insane headlines, even hit spy thrillers like "Slow Horses" can feel like comfort TV.

So camp out with a mug of hot cocoa, a comfy blanket, and settle in for these cozy Apple TV series that deserve a spot on your watchlist.

'Bad Sisters'

As one of three sisters, “Bad Sisters” was always gonna hit me hard, but my bias aside, it really is the perfect bite-size saga to binge over a weekend. Granted, “murder mystery” might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a cozy watch, but its dreamy coastal Irish setting, gloriously messy family dynamics (siblings, amirite?), and distinct lack of gory bits make it easy to get swept up in. It’s part pitch-black comedy and part mystery thriller, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing about who, if anyone, is going to make it out of this mess unscathed.

At the center are the close-knit Garvey sisters — Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), Eva (Sharon Horgan), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene) and Becka (Eve Hewson). When Grace’s husband, John Paul (Claes Bang), proves to be a far cry from the "nice guy" he pretends to be, he earns a place on her sisters' shit list. His fate is sealed from the opening scene, when the sisters gather at his funeral and collectively breathe a sigh of relief. Any one of them could have a motive for wanting him dead, leaving struggling insurance agent Tom Claffin (Brian Gleeson) to figure out what really happened. The suspected murder is problem enough, but there’s another reason he needs answers: paying out John Paul’s life insurance would bankrupt his father’s already struggling agency.

'Platonic'

There are already plenty of shows out there about how men are lonely and struggle to keep their friendships as they get older, but “Platonic” takes a much funnier approach. Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne have fantastic chemistry as long-estranged best friends Will and Sylvia, who reconnect while both are stumbling through their respective midlife crises. With two comedy heavyweights leading the charge, “Platonic” is easily one of the funniest shows on Apple TV Plus, earning a top spot on our best Apple TV Plus shows list.

After Will marries a woman Sylvia can’t stand, their friendship goes on the back burner. Years later, Will is freshly divorced, and the two find themselves back in each other’s orbits. Their reunion is messy from the start, and new relationships threaten to knock them of course once more. In a more conventional rom-com, you’d probably expect these two to eventually fall for each other, but that would completely miss the point of the show’s title. Will and Sylvia are strictly platonic — two codependent idiots trying to rein in their particular brand of chaos, grow up a little, and become better people.

'Slow Horses'

If there’s one hit show that's really made a name for Apple TV, it's "Slow Horses." The acclaimed spy thriller just launched its sixth season, boasts an impressive 98% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and somehow manages to get better with each new installment. Much of that applause goes to Gary Oldman, whose rough-around-the-edges and endlessly watchable performance has further cemented his status as one of the finest actors of his generation.

“Slow Horses” follows a group of MI5 agents who have been exiled to Slough House, a dumping ground for spies who have botched assignments or screwed up enough to put their careers on ice. Dubbed “slow horses,” they’re stuck handling tedious, thankless work under the watchful eye of the foul-mouthed and perpetually unimpressed Jackson Lamb (Oldman). But despite their reputations as MI5 rejects, the team has a habit of stumbling into dangerous situations, uncovering conspiracies and taking on threats that can rival anything the agency’s elite agents might be up against.

Another top pick, "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," is an animated adventure with some standout performances by Florence Pugh and John Mulaney that I did not expect to love as much as I did. Finally, the offbeat Bollywood teen comedy "Best of the Best" is perfect for a breezy weekend watch or movie night.

Guy Ritchie's "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" landed on Netflix last week, and it's still hanging strong in the Netflix top 10. If you're craving more gritty action after "The Gentleman" season 2, this has all of Ritchie's signature hallmarks, with larger-than-life characters, slick action and plenty of wildly over-the-top set pieces. Viewers seem to be having a blast with it too, judging by its 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Inspired by the true story of a secret group of British soldiers during World War II, this heavily fictionalized take on the Special Operations Executive follows Winston Churchill (Rory Kinnear) as he assembles a ragtag team of operatives to help turn the tide of the war through less conventional means. Led by Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding and Alex Pettyfer, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” is a pulpy, action-packed war movie that leans into its outrageous premise and charismatic cast that'll charm your socks off.

'Best of the Best' (2026)

Netflix has had a streak of real stinkers this summer (I'm honestly surprised to see "The Whisper Man" hanging on in the top 10, albeit at the last spot), but "Best of the Best" looks like just the girl's night staple to buck that trend. Reviews for this Bollywood teen comedy are positive, and it's sitting around 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were less keen, given the 60% on the Popcornmeter, but I think that's a little harsh. It's a breezy watch perfect to eat up a weekend afternoon with a few laughs.

“Best of the Best” may look like your typical college sports movie at first glance, but its got a fun twist that immediately caught my attention. Instead of football or basketball, the movie dives into the world of competitive Bollywood-fusion dance. “Never Have I Ever” star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia play two best friends who join UCLA’s dance team with their sights set on winning the U.S. championships — if they can survive this cutthroat sport long enough to take home the top prize.

'Puss in Boots: The Last Wish' (2022)

The studio behind "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" has a new movie in theaters this weekend, "Forgotten Island," built around Filipino folklore and friendships that withstand the test of time, so I had to shout out this one. I've still never seen the original 2011 "Puss in Boots," but this is more of a reboot than a sequel, complete with a new style that melds the vibrant animation of the "Spider-Verse" movies with the dreamlike pastels of an illustrated storybook.

Antonio Banderas returns as the beloved Puss, now on his last life after cheating death one too many times. And death, voiced by "Narcos" star Wagner Moura, is here to collect his due. Joining them is John Mulaney as the delightfully evil Jack Horner and Florence Pugh's Goldilocks, the head hauncho of a three bears crime family (Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, and Samson Kayo).

"The Golden Cobra" season 2 will be broadcast on BBC Three, with the first episode airing on Saturday, September 26. The show will start on BBC Wales from October 2.

Creator Adam Llewellyn was speaking to the BBC about his show, and said: "We are all immensely proud to be from the Valleys and the cartoon serves as nothing but a loving tribute.

'Tyler Perry’s Doing Life'

Genre: Romantic drama

What it's about: In this romantic drama written and directed by Tyler Perry, a single mother who once worked as a prison officer (Naomi Baker) forms an unexpected bond with a reformed ex-convict (Jay Reeves), who previously saved her life during a violent prison riot.

Why you should watch it: Tyler Perry must be one of Hollywood’s most productive creatives; “Doing Life” is his third Netflix project of 2026 after “Why Did I Get Married Again?” and “Joe’s College Road Trip.” While his Netflix collaborations don’t always impress critics, they tend to draw plenty of attention from viewers, and “Doing Life” has a compelling setup.

'Animals'

Genre: Crime thriller

What it's about: Mark Kimball (Ben Affleck) is an L.A. mayoral candidate, forced to get his hands dirty when his son is kidnapped and he and his wife (Kerry Washington) are given just hours to make a ransom payment. Low on funds after spending their wealth on campaigning, they are forced to show a dark side of their characters to bring their boy home safely.

Why you should watch it: “Animals” is Netflix’s tentpole original movie for October, and it sees Affleck not only star, but also direct. 'The Diplomat' season 4

Genre: Political thriller

What it's about: In “The Diplomat” season 4, a single catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) brokered between the U.S. and U.K., also sending Kate’s crumbling marriage to Hal (Rufus Sewell) into further turmoil. At the same time, President Grace Penn’s (Allison Janney) could put the United States on the path to war.

Their friends and family still have their doubts, but the couple is fully committed, with the loved-up pair now moving in together and Joanne preparing to convert to Judaism.

Why you should watch it: “Nobody Wants This” is one of Netflix’s most feel-good shows of recent years. That’s where this list comes in. I’ve rounded up five movies currently available on Prime Video that are worth adding to your watchlist before they leave in September 2026. There’s a little bit of everything here, from tense thrillers and unsettling sci-fi to movies that are perfect for a cozy night in. Whether you’re looking for something new or want to watch a movie you’ve had sitting on your list for ages, these are five titles I’d make time for.

‘Side Effects’ (2013)

“Side Effects” is a psychological thriller movie directed by Steven Soderbergh, and it holds a notable place in his filmography as it was framed at the time as his planned “final theatrical film” before his temporary retirement from feature filmmaking. The movie actually draws heavily from classic 1950s and ‘60s Hitchcockian suspense thrillers, so if you’re looking for something tense to watch this week with some seriously sharp screenwriting and haunting music, “Side Effects” should be on your watchlist.

After her husband Martin (Channing Tatum) is released from prison, Emily Taylor (Rooney Mara) struggles to adjust to having him back home and attempts to take her own life. She begins seeing psychiatrist Dr. Jonathan Banks (Jude Law), who tries several medications before prescribing a new experimental drug called Ablixa. Emily initially seems to improve, but the medication causes her to experience sleepwalking episodes. When one of these episodes ends in a shocking act of violence, Jonathan finds himself facing serious consequences for his treatment of Emily.

‘Crimson Tide’ (1995)

Released during the peak of 1990s blockbuster cinema, “Crimson Tide” takes an intense military story and turns it into an intense battle of wills between two very different generations of military leadership. Directed by Tony Scott, it was also the first of five movies he made with Denzel Washington. What really works for me is how the movie makes the most of its cramped submarine setting, using tight camera shots and constant movement to make the whole thing feel increasingly tense. It’s easy to see why the movie went on to earn three Academy Award nominations.

“Crimson Tide” follows the crew of the USS Alabama, a U.S. nuclear submarine sent to patrol near Russia after ultranationalist rebels seize control of nuclear weapons. Captain Frank Ramsey (Gene Hackman) receives an order to prepare for a nuclear strike, but an attack damages the submarine’s communications before a follow-up message can be fully received. Ramsey believes they should proceed with the original order, while his executive officer, Ron Hunter (Denzel Washington), insists they need to confirm the missing message first.

One of Ridley Scott’s best movies has to be “The Martian,” a hugely entertaining sci-fi survival movie. Based on Andy Weir’s 2011 novel of the same name, the movie puts a surprising amount of focus on the practical side of surviving on another planet, which is a big part of what makes it so enjoyable to watch. The production also worked closely with NASA to make the science and technology feel as believable as possible, with the space agency consulting on everything from the costumes and spacecraft to the movie’s approach to growing food on Mars.

Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is left stranded on Mars after a violent storm forces his crew to evacuate and they mistakenly believe he has died. Alone with limited supplies and no way to contact Earth, Mark must use his knowledge as a botanist and engineer to keep himself alive while figuring out how to get home. Meanwhile, NASA discovers that he survived and begins working on a rescue mission, while Mark’s former crewmates learn the truth and face a difficult decision about whether to turn their spacecraft around.

‘Uncharted’ (2022)

Video game adaptations don’t exactly have the best track record, but every now and then you get one that’s still a lot of fun even if it doesn’t do the source material justice. “Uncharted” is a good example. The action-adventure movie is based on the popular video game series and had a famously long journey to the big screen, spending more than a decade in development. I’ll admit it’s a pretty weak adaptation, but I still had a good time watching it. It eventually became one of the highest-grossing video game movie adaptations ever.

Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is a street-smart bartender and skilled thief who is recruited by experienced treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to find a fortune that disappeared 500 years ago during Ferdinand Magellan’s expedition. Their search takes them across the world as they follow a series of clues connected to the lost treasure, while rival treasure hunters close in on them. Nathan also hopes the expedition might help him uncover what happened to his missing older brother, Sam.

‘Vivarium’ (2020)

If you’re in the mood for a mind-bending psychological thriller, “Vivarium” is well worth a watch. It’s a seriously strange little movie that takes a young couple on a very unexpected journey after they become trapped in a seemingly endless suburban development. I’ll admit it’s an odd one, but that’s a big part of what makes it so memorable. Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg are both excellent in the lead roles, and their performances make the increasingly bizarre situation surprisingly easy to get invested in. It also goes in some unexpected directions, so I don’t think you’ll have much luck guessing where it’s headed.

Gemma (Imogen Poots) and Tom (Jesse Eisenberg) are a young couple searching for their first home, who visit a strange housing development called Yonder with the help of an unsettling real estate agent. After the agent mysteriously disappears, they discover that every road leads back to the identical house they were shown, leaving them trapped in the seemingly endless neighborhood. Their situation becomes even stranger when a box containing a baby arrives with instructions for them to raise it if they want to be released. As the child grows at an unnatural rate, Gemma and Tom desperately search for a way out.

“The Love Hypothesis” could be one of the more charming straight-to-streaming rom-coms to land this fall. Based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel (and reskinned Reylo fanfic) and directed by Claire Scanlon (“Set It Up”), the movie stars Tom Bateman and Lili Reinhart as a professor and PhD student who agree to enter a fake relationship — all in the name of testing their competing theories about love.

Early reviews have been largely positive, with 79% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. “The Love Hypothesis” has all the makings of a breezy watch if you’re in the mood for a little romantic escapism this week.

‘Toy Story 5’ (Disney+)

I really enjoyed "Toy Story 5" more than I expected. Part of that was because I tagged along to my friends' daughter's first-ever movie (!!), and part of it was because it literally teaches kids how to play. Imagining playtime with a more vibrant animation style and telenovela-style drama that absolutely delighted the two 3-year-olds I saw this with, and had their mothers and me cackling.

When the new Andy in town, 8-year-old Bonnie, gets a tablet-like Lilypad to play with her friends online, all her other toys fall by the wayside. But Jessie won't be abandoned a second time, kicking off a mission with Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the gang to get her to remember how fun her life was before screens.

'Tuner' (Paramount+)

“Tuner” is a terrific little crime thriller that didn't get its fair shake, in my opinion. It doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it’s well-paced and anchored by a strong cast that makes it easy to invest in its characters. Written and directed by Daniel Roher, it follows Niki White (Leo Woodall), a New York City apprentice piano tuner who works alongside a master of the craft and pseudo-father figure, Harry Horowitz (Dustin Hoffman).

Niki has hyperacusis, which he describes as an “allergy to noise,” and has to wear ear protection to block out the world around him enough to function comfortably. His acute sense of hearing proves a valuable skill when he realizes he can use it to crack safes. Before long, Niki gets in over his head by poking around where he shouldn't. The "Tuner's" 94% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes was enough to convince me to see it, and it seriously impressed me.

'Siren: The Voices of Shelley Beattie' (HBO Max)

After her award-winning turn exploring Celine Dion’s life in “I Am: Celine Dion,” director Irene Taylor sets her sights on another extraordinary woman in her new HBO documentary “Siren: The Voices of Shelley Beattie.” The film profiles deaf female bodybuilder Shelley Beattie, whose impressive career included appearances in the Ms. International and Ms. Olympia competitions.

Featuring interviews with Beattie’s loved ones and famous fans, including deaf activist and Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin, “Siren” goes beyond her accomplishments in bodybuilding to explore her complicated relationship with beauty, love and mental illness.

'Unabomber' (Netflix)

Netflix capped off a busy week of streaming premieres with “Unabomber,” a new film based on the real-life case of Ted Kaczynski (Jacob Tremblay), the teenage math prodigy who went on to become the domestic terrorist known as the “Unabomber." It follows the 17-year mail-bombing campaign and the massive manhunt that ultimately brought him to justice.

Starring Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis and Shailene Woodley alongside Tremblay, “Unabomber” jumps between Kaczynski’s time at Harvard and the investigation that stretched across the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s. For true-crime fans looking for a new case with plenty of twists and turns to dig into this weekend, “Unabomber” is an obvious addition to the watchlist.

Nora realizes the clues to the killer’s identity are buried in her tipsy memories, forcing her to stay drunk to solve the mystery and survive.

Class is back in session at Hillman! The fictional HBCU comes to live once more in the "A Different World" series that debuted on Netflix this week. This follow-up to the iconic ’90s coming-of-age sitcom centers on a new generation of students led by Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), the youngest daughter of Hillman legends Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy). Across 10 episodes, the series explores the growing pains of Hillman’s fumbling newest class, with cameos from cast members throughout the years returning as well.

Deborah's at Hillman under duress after her original college plans fall through, putting her at odds with her rule-following friends Rashida (Alijah Kai) and Hazel (Kennedi Reece). Meanwhile, her "situationship" and longtime childhood friend Shaquille Johnson (Cornell Young IV) is turning heads as a new recruit on the football team. Just as with the original, its characters feel like believable college students you could meet on any campus today, making this a much-watch for both fans of "A Different World" and anyone trying to navigate that awkward but exciting stage of life.

'My Sad Dead'

Netflix's latest psychological horror drama miniseries is built around a simple premise: Ema (Mercedes Morán), a recently retired 60-year-old doctor, can speak to and see the dead — including her own mother, who died three weeks before the story begins. All the hauntings take place in Piedrabuena, a once charming old neighborhood in Buenos Aires that's now prone to crime after the development of a vast housing project.

Ema's troubled niece Julie (Carolina Sánchez Álvarez), shares the same gift, but when she comes to visit, her abilities end up getting transferred to the entire neighborhood. Meanwhile, a triple homicide forces Ema to step into the spotlight after a lifetime spent trying to help ghosts without attracting the attention of the living. As far as horror stories go, it leans more atmospheric and unsettling than the jump scares you might expect.

'The Final Problem'

I love a classic whodunnit, and "The Final Problem" seems just the thing to watch this weekend if you're looking for short, twisty fun time. This 4-episode miniseries out of Spain follows 13 strangers trapped on a small island off the coast of Mallorca when a storm rolls out, including Basil (José Coronado) a faded actor once famous for playing Sherlock Holmes on screen.

His sleuthing skills are put to the test when an English tourist is found dead, and everyone stranded in the hotel becomes a potential suspect. After all, who better to read a room full of liars than a man who's spent his life lying professionally for the camera? At only four episodes, "The Final Problem" feels more like a long movie than a series, and that lean runtime is perfect for a weekend binge watch.

Prime Video’s latest romantic comedy has found a winning formula. It’s gone straight to No. 1 in the platform’s top 10 most-watched list, and is likely to retain that position through the weekend. It’s been warmly embraced by viewers, and even the critics have been charmed by this glossy rom-com (including TG’s own Alix Blackburn). Fun fact: It’s based on the novel by Ali Hazelwood, which actually started life as “Star Wars” fan-fiction.

Olive (Lili Reinhart) is a gifted PhD student who impulsively kisses a professor, Adam (Tom Bateman), to prove to her best friend (Rachel Marsh) that her life isn’t a total trainwreck. This spirals into a whole fake relationship, with rules and boundaries set in advance. But you know how these things go in rom-coms! Before long, the pair’s pretend romance blossoms into the real thing, putting their theories about love to the ultimate test.

‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ (2019)

Arguably director Quentin Tarantino’s most entertaining movie. “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” is the filmmaker's fond tribute to classic cinema, exploring the era of movie star dominance. And Tarantino has assembled quite the cast of his own, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Timothy Olyphant. It’s easily the Tarantino movie I’ve rewatched the most, and has already built a legacy, thanks to several iconic scenes.

Set in the late 1960s, the film follows Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), a former TV actor turned movie star, as he grapples with his declining career and waning fame. Alongside his loyal stunt double/best friend, Cliff Booth (Pitt), he navigates a rapidly changing Los Angeles. At the same time, the Charles Manson murders loom, with Sharon Tate (Robbie) a target. Now’s a great time to watch, as Cliff Booth is set to return in a new semi-sequel, debuting on Netflix this December.

‘The Fire Inside’ (2024)

Looking to be inspired this weekend? Then you’ll want to watch “The Fire Inside.” This sports biopic has an impressive 93% on review site Rotten Tomatoes, with both critics and viewers awarding it the same high marks. It doesn’t reinvent the sports drama genre. Still, it chronicles the career of a driven athlete, Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, who refuses to be defined by her circumstances and instead gives everything in pursuit of excellence.

Starring Ryan Destiny as Claressa and Brian Tyree Henry as her coach Jason Crutchfield, “The Fire Inside” opens in Flint, Michigan, as the determined Claressa walks into an all-men boxing gym and demands a chance to prove herself. Despite the hurdles in her path, she makes the U.S. Olympic team for the 2012 London Games. Her goal is to become the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal. “The Fire Inside” is acclaimed for its inspirational subject matter, but also for its enraging examination of systemic issues.

The main event for MCU fans is "VisionQuest," premiering Oct. 14 on Disney+. 'American Horror Story: 13'

After more than a decade and over a hundred Emmy nominations, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's horror anthology has hit a fitting milestone with its 13th season. Built around everyone's unluckiest number, it boasts an all-star cast reprising fan-favorite roles that has viewers bracing for a reunion-style victory lap through the show's past.

Over the years, "American Horror Story" has given us a murder house, a witches' coven, a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel, and the literal apocalypse, and the teasers for this one dangle a "supreme surprise" that seems tailor-made to get Coven diehards talking.

'Clown Panic'

Not every scary clown is fictional. Some may even be waiting for you out in a decrepit old cornfield. "Clown Panic" is a documentary revisiting the very real wave of creepy clown sightings that swept the country in 2016, which started when kids in a small South Carolina town swore they'd seen clowns lurking in the woods. It all got out of control from there before it transformed into a full-blown national media frenzy.

Created from real, unsettling archival footage, viral videos, and interviews with witnesses, this is a creepy and darkly funny documentary that will set the mood right, just in time for Halloween.

'VisionQuest'

Five years after "WandaVision," Paul Bettany's Vision finally gets a story of his own. "VisionQuest" closes out the trilogy that began with "WandaVision" and continued through "Agatha All Along," picking up with the rebooted White Vision, the memory-flooded version left standing at the end of "WandaVision."

Searching for a new sense of purpose, he starts consulting the AI personalities buried in his own programming, among them a returning James Spader as Ultron. It looks like a much trippier, more introspective corner of the MCU, so it looks well worth investing in, fan of the universe or not.
