Loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris). Father to a murdered son (Giorgio Cantarini), husband to a murdered wife (Ginnina Facio). He will have his vengeance, in this life or the next.

What's it about? Joshua Taylor (John David Washington) to take down "Nirmata," an A.I. expert who is key to the New Asian resistance.

Why you should watch it: This movie looks stunning. There's no denying that. But the story takes some twists and turns, and is frankly a bit dense when it could stand to be superficial. It's worth checking out for the visuals alone, though, and thankfully, it's got some must-watch action sequences as well.

'Between the Temples' (2024)

Genre: Comedy-drama

What's it about? Ben (Jason Schwartzman) is a cantor at Temple Sinai, who struggles to sing following the death of his wife. When he runs into his old music teacher, Carla (Carol Kane), she helps him find his voice, and in return, he helps her try to get a Bar Mitzvah, despite her old age.

Why you need to watch it: An indie darling, "Between the Temples" picked up some smaller acting awards following its Sundance debut, including a Best Supporting Performance Independent Spirit award for Kane. If you want a comedy-drama that doesn't feel run-of-the-mill, this one is worth checking out.

This week’s top new movies have been confirmed, and after the very slow week just gone, the next seven days are looking a whole lot better. Some of the biggest streaming services around will offer new movies to watch, including Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu and more.

However, this week it's one of the smaller platforms with my top pick. MGM+ is set to be the streaming home of sci-fi epic “Project Hail Mary,” and if you still haven’t seen this Ryan Gosling-fronted blockbuster, it lives up to its sterling reputation. Meanwhile, Netflix has a glossy rom-com, HBO Max has a dark thriller with Glen Powell, and Hulu has a comedy about a group of 30-year-olds forced to return to their high school.

Top new movies this week (June 16-22)

‘Deep Water’ (PVOD)

It just wouldn’t be a summer movie season without at least one shark survival flick, and in steps “Deep Water” to ensure fans of thrillers that see humans attempt to survive against the ocean’s apex predator aren’t left wanting. This one comes from genre veteran Renny Harlin (who also helmed 1999’s “Deep Blue Sea”) and boasts KISS rocker Gene Simmons among its producer list, which is a crossover I very much didn’t expect.

In fact, “Deep Water” combines two survival thriller favorites: Shark attacks and plane crashes. When an international flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai goes down in the Pacific Ocean due to an improperly stowed power bank, the survivors of the crash are thrown into an equally deadly situation with a shark among the floating wreckage. Starring Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley, this unashamedly B-movie offers fun thrills.

‘Never Change!’ (Hulu)

Another staple of the summer season is comedy movies about high schoolers graduating, and “Never Change!” is a new Hulu original that builds on this coming-of-age formula in a way that looks refreshing. Rather than focusing on a group of adolescents in the final few weeks of their school lives, it’s about a group of adults in their 30s who must return to their old haunt after it’s discovered they didn’t technically graduate.

When it’s discovered that the class of 2008 didn’t complete their education after a tornado disrupted their senior year, they’re left with no choice but to return to North Meadows High. They might now be adults, but back in the halls of their high school, old relationships flare up, and teenage angst bites back hard. This Hulu original comedy stars John Reynolds, Sofia Black-D'Elia, Carmen Christopher and Jo Firestone.

‘Project Hail Mary’ (MGM+)

“Project Hail Mary” is perhaps the movie of 2026 (so far). This epic sci-fi based on the Andy Weir novel of the same name is a favorite among the entire Tom’s Guide streaming team and ranks at the top of my personal yearly ranking (and I’ve seen more than 50 new movies in 2026 so far). It features Ryan Gosling at his likeable best, but while Gosling is good, he’s actually upstaged by a puppet named Rocky, whom you will fall in love with.

Set a few years in the future, Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a middle school teacher/astronaut, who awakens on an interstellar spaceship with a very important mission. There’s just one very big problem: He cannot remember his mission or even his own name. What follows is a gripping adventure as Grace pieces together his past and has to figure out why he’s aboard the craft. Combining excitement, comedy and memorable characters, it’s an out-of-this-world watch that you shouldn't skip.

‘How to Make a Killing’ (HBO Max)

“How to Make a Killing” is a comedy-thriller elevated significantly by the charms of Glen Powell. It’s “eat the rich,” or in this case, murder the rich, storyline isn’t as clever or crafty as I’d hoped, but Powell will keep you invested. Sadly, the supporting cast doesn’t match up, with Margaret Qualley’s Julia a character that never quite clicks, but “How to Make a Killing” is still a worthwhile watch on HBO Max for dedicated genre fans.

Becket Redfellow (Powell) is a suit-shop worker, raised by his mother, who was disowned by her wealthy father (Ed Harris) after becoming pregnant in her teens. When his mother passes, Becket becomes obsessed with reclaiming his vast inheritance. To do this, he’ll have to kill off his relatives, so there’s nobody left in the family tree but him. Darkly humorous but with some questionable narrative logic, “How to Make a Killing” is entertaining but lacks memorable moments, and its social satire falls flat.

‘Voicemails for Isabelle’ (Netflix)

Sticking with this week’s summer movie season trend, Netflix is dropping a splashy romantic comedy movie, which revolves around two actors well experienced in the genre: Nick Robinson (“Love, Simon”) and Zoey Deutch (“Set It Up”). Will the critics love it? I wouldn’t bet on it, but I have little doubt it’ll be a storming success with Netflix subscribers and might even make a play for the Netflix No. 1 spot over the weekend.

Also starring Nick Offerman and Harry Shum Jr., “Voicemails for Isabelle” sees Jill (Deutch) struggling to cope with the death of her sister (Ciara Bravo). To handle her grief, she leaves voicemails about her life in San Francisco to her sister’s mobile number as a coping mechanism. However, when the number is reassigned, Wes (Robinson), a real estate agent in Austin, starts receiving these messages. Kickstarting a cross-country meet-cute that might blossom into a relationship that helps both heal.

Summer is officially cooking, and so is the streaming lineup. 'Mortal Kombat II'

If you've ever watched a Mortal Kombat game and thought, "What if this had even more blood," this movie sequel has you covered. It throws washed-up action star Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) into the middle of Earthrealm's fight for survival as Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) and a growing roster of warriors prepare for a winner-take-all showdown against the tyrannical Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford). The plot mostly serves as an excuse to hurl ninjas, monsters, and demigods at one another, but that's A-OK for an action spectacle.

'I Am Frankelda' (Netflix)

If Guillermo del Toro’s sketchbook came to life and started singing, it might look something like this lush stop-motion fantasy. It follows a 19th-century Mexican writer named Frankelda whose macabre stories are dismissed by everyone around her… right up until she discovers the nightmare kingdom she’s been imagining is actually real. She embarks on a sprawling adventure involving ghosts, monsters, a cursed prince and the fate of multiple realities. It’s gorgeous, weird and packed with the kind of handcrafted visual imagination that’s getting increasingly rare.

'They Will Kill You' (HBO Max)

Zazie Beetz goes full action-horror heroine in this gleefully unhinged splatterfest that traps its heroine inside a Manhattan high-rise run by a satanic cult. What starts as a housekeeping gig quickly becomes a nightlong fight for survival, with Beetz hacking, slashing and wisecracking her way through wave after wave of cloaked killers. Director Kirill Sokolov piles on the gore, dark humor and increasingly absurd set pieces with reckless abandon. As Tom's Guide senior writer Alix Blackburn said in her "They Will Kill You" review, the film is "an absolutely bonkers movie that woke up and chose violence."

'Let's Love' (digital)

The entertainment industry loves a reunion almost as much as it loves a comeback, and this British comedy serves up both. Martin Freeman, Josh Hutcherson, Malin Akerman, Jess Weixler and Craig Roberts star as the cast and creatives behind a cult-hit movie who reconvene in Wales a decade later for a fan convention meant to revive their careers. When the event implodes thanks to a booking snafu, they pivot to brainstorming a sequel instead, dredging up old grudges, unresolved crushes and career anxieties along the way.

What's it about? "It Ends with Us" centers around Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), a florist who suddenly finds herself in a whirlwind romance with Ryle (Justin Baldoni). The blossoming relationship turns sour, though, when Ryle's anger issues manifest in truly ugly fashion.

Why you should watch it: This movie should have just been a relatively fine romance flick, albeit one with a lot of messy drama. But then Lively and Baldoni's legal battles turned it into a hot topic with messy drama all of its own. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, check out "It Ends with Us" on Hulu now.

'Kneecap' (2024)

Genre: Biographical comedy-drama movie

What's it about? There's a chance you might be familiar with the Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap. But if you aren't, know that this biopic launched the group into another level of stardom. It's not just a traditional biographical movie, though. It's really an insightful examination of life for the generation of Irish in Belfast that grew up after the Good Friday Agreement, as well as a love letter to the Irish language.

Why you need to watch it: Full disclosure: you'll need to turn on the subtitles for this movie's Irish dialogue. Irish as a language is integral to the purpose of this movie, as well as the purpose of Kneecap's music itself. Don't let this being a foreign-language film turn you away, though. It's very much a must-watch.

One of her more dramatic roles, "Hustlers" is a must-watch for any self-respecting J-Lo fan. Inspired by a stranger-than-fiction true story, Lorene Scafaria's "Hustlers" is a sharp, energetic crime drama that sees Lopez deliver a magnetic performance as Ramona Vega, a mother hen whose charisma is matched only by her ruthlessness. It's the kind of star turn that stays in your memory long after the credits roll.

Constance Wu stars as Destiny, a struggling dancer who gets pulled under Ramona's wing for a lucrative but illegal operation: to drug their wealthy clients and fleece them for millions with pilfered credit cards. 'Shotgun Wedding' (Prime Video)

Like a lot of the films on this list, "Shotgun Wedding" is more enjoyable than it has any right to be, in large part thanks to Lopez's effortless charisma that few stars can match. Josh Duhamel proves equally solid as an underrated leading man, while Jennifer Coolidge steals every scene she’s in with her signature comedic timing. The ensemble as a whole helps turn a perfectly serviceable script into a genuinely fun watch.

It follows a couple, Darcy (Lopez) and Tom (Duhamel), as they bring their families together for a lavish wedding at a remote tropical resort. When criminals storm the ceremony and take the wedding party hostage, the couple, who are already questioning their relationship, must spring into action to save the day and ultimately decide whether to go through with their vows.

'The Wedding Planner' (Netflix)

"The Wedding Planner" is one of those rom-coms that lands squarely in “so bad it’s good” territory. It kicks off with the usual meet-cute: Type-A wedding planner Mary gets her heel stuck in a storm drain and nearly gets taken out by a runaway garbage truck until she’s rescued at the last second by pediatrician Steve (Matthew McConaughey).

Naturally, sparks fly between them, but things get complicated fast when Mary discovers Steve is actually engaged to one of her clients. To make matters worse, someone else (Justin Chambers) has the hots for her. As straightforward and silly a premise as it is, it's still a delightful watch buoyed by the easy chemistry of two of the era’s most recognizable rom-com stars. Their charm does a lot of the heavy lifting, and so does early-2000s nostalgia.

'Monster-in-Law' (HBO Max)

The biggest draw here is the star-studded cast, particularly the titanic duo Lopez and Jane Fonda make, with Wanda Sykes throwing in plenty of laughs with her sharp one-liners. Given the talent involved, this meet-the-parents romantic comedy feels funnier on paper than in action, but that didn't stop the film from grossing more than three times its budget at the box office despite lukewarm reviews.

When Charlie (Lopez) falls in love with Kevin (Michael Vartan), it at first seems like a match made in heaven. Until she meets her future mother-in-law, Viola (Fonda), a recently fired TV personality who's adamant that no woman could ever be good enough for her precious son. Passive-aggressive comments and pranks start flying with the two locked in a battle of wits that culminates in the movie's most memorable scene: a showdown when Viola shows up in a white dress at her own son's wedding.

Long gone are the days of streaming being the cheaper alternative than cable. I used to think that subscription hopping each month was too much trouble for the money you save, but with streaming prices creeping higher and higher these days, I'm now a convert.

Recently, I decided to cull some of my monthly subscription services as an experiment to see if I was really getting my money's worth. I had my eye on Disney's mega-bundle with Hulu and HBO Max, advertised as a savings of more than 40% when bundled together, but though I was intrigued, I wasn't convinced.

Could limiting my household to just three major streaming platforms really be enough variety to satisfy everyone's tastes? And would the savings actually be significant?

To find out, I decided to go all in. I canceled every standalone streaming subscription I was paying for and switched exclusively to the Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max Bundle with ads for $19.99 per month.

After 30 days, I had my answer. Here's exactly how much money I saved and what I missed most after cutting the cord on my other services.

My 30-day savings report

Before making the switch, I was subscribed to five different services, mostly on their ad-supported tiers because I'm not forking over more money than I need to and I actually don't mind the ad breaks. The regular interruptions keep me from binging things endlessly. With the exception of Netflix, which I did shell out $19.99 a month for the standard option, because its ads are particularly obnoxious.

Beyond that, I had the Disney+ basic plan for $11.99 a month, Peacock for $7.99, HBO Max for $10.99, Paramount+ added another $8.99 a month, and Apple TV at $12.99. All told, I was paying $72 a month for streaming services — which works out to over $860 a year. Wow, it's wild to lay it all out like that and realize I lose nearly a grand each year to streaming.

By consolidating with the trio bundle and cutting the other platforms, I saved $52 in just one month. Over a full year, that puts an extra $624 back into my pocket.

The sheer volume of programming between Hulu, HBO Max, and Disney+ left my watchlist plenty full in the meantime. Hulu has a healthy library of comedy shows I've watched a million already but still like to put on in the background, like "Abbott Elementary" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," while HBO Max is home to everything from heavy-hitting blockbusters to indie animated films. Since Disney and Hulu have integrated so seamlessly, browsing through the apps felt seamless. I rarely found myself scrolling aimlessly to find something to watch; if anything, my watchlist only grew.

What I lost (and what I didn't miss)

Netflix and Apple TV were the hardest ones to let go. I’m a chronic re-watcher, and my biggest concern was losing access to comfort shows like "Bad Sisters" or Netflix's vast library of documentaries.

I thought I would experience severe FOMO without Netflix. When really, unless a massive cultural phenomenon drops a new season, the Netflix homepage has felt increasingly cluttered with content I skip past anyway. Meanwhile, Apple TV has such a sparse calendar of releases that I plan to just re-subscribe when a new season of "Severance" or one of its other must-watch shows drops.

What started as a 30-day budgeting challenge has turned into a long-term switch. I expected culling my list of subscriptions to feel like a compromise, but in practice, it felt more like clearing out unnecessary noise I hardly missed while keeping an extra $52 in my bank account every month. If you're considering cutting down on your streaming subscriptions, I'd encourage you to take a closer look at how much you actually use the platforms you pay for. The potential savings might be more than you think.

In our "Hoppers" review, Malcolm McMillan described it as "delightful" and "basically Avatar but better." Judging by its impressive 94% Rotten Tomatoes score from both critics and audiences, he's far from alone in that opinion.

The movie follows Mabel (voiced by Piper Curda), a nature-loving teenager who gets a chance to transfer her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver to see what day-to-day life is like in the animal kingdom. Blending sharp humor with an uplifting message about conservation and protecting the environment, "Hoppers" is an ideal pick for a family movie night this weekend. The voice cast is equally strong, featuring Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, and Dave Franco in memorable supporting roles.

‘Hokum’ (PVOD)

"Hokum" and "The Backrooms" are cut from the same cloth, in that both captured that sense of discovery and dread of a horror video game in movie form. Irish horror filmmaker Damian McCarthy, the mind behind the chilling folk-horror standouts "Caveat" and "Oddity," returns with another nightmare-inducing tale that felt like a more supernatural twist on "The Shining." "Severance's" Adam Scott stars as Ohm Bauman, a jaded novelist with a wicked case of writer's block.

He sets out to scatter his parents' ashes at an isolated hotel in Ireland where they spent their honeymoon. Once there, he's fascinated by local folk tales about a centuries-old witch supposedly trapped inside the hotel's sealed honeymoon suite. As strange visions haunt him and a hotel employee mysteriously disappears, Ohm finds himself drawn into a dark mystery that forces him to confront traumatic secrets from his own past.

'Office Romance' (Netflix)

One of Netflix's newest original movies is "Office Romance," a glossy, star-studded romantic comedy that marks a return to form for Jennifer Lopez in the genre she helped define. Built around a forbidden workplace relationship, it mines plenty of laughs from two career-driven professionals trying to keep their personal lives hidden while keeping things professional at the office. It doesn't aim to reinvent the genre, but with plenty of sharp banter and easy chemistry between the two leads, "Office Romance" delivers exactly what it promises.

Lopez stars as Jackie Cruz, the formidable CEO of a major airline whose high standards keep her employees constantly on edge. But the latest hire, Daniel Blanchflower (Brett Goldstein), a talented and ambitious attorney, tests her resolve in ways she never saw coming. Despite strict workplace policies and the obvious risks of getting involved with a colleague, the two soon find it impossible to ignore their growing chemistry — or keep whatever this thing is between them under wraps.

'Keeper' (Hulu)

For a slow-burn folk horror movie, "Keeper" delivers a heavy dollop of dread. Director Osgood Perkins's follow-up to "The Monkey" got mixed responses from critics and audiences alike, but a steady throughline of tension punctuated by some truly unsettling moments kept me engaged well enough.

"Keeper" stars Rossif Sutherland and Tatiana Maslany as Malcolm and Liz, a couple heading off for a quiet weekend at a remote cabin. But when Malcolm’s obnoxious cousin (Darren Westbridge) and girlfriend (Eden Weiss) show up uninvited, things start to unravel. After Liz eats a cake that may have been drugged, she starts seeing disturbing visions and hallucinations that suggest something dark is tied to the cabin’s history.

'The Blackening' (Prime Video)

Like the "Scary Movie" franchise, "The Blackening" deliberately leans into a familiar horror setup as part of its satire on common tropes. If you’ve seen even a handful of slasher films, you probably already know where this is going. A group of lifelong friends heads to a secluded cabin in the woods for a carefree weekend getaway, only to stumble on a strange board game that forces them into a deadly game with no way out. To make it through the night, they’ll have to rely on their knowledge of horror movie rules, though that may not be enough to save them.

While it definitely leans more comedy than horror, "The Blackening" is a smart deconstruction of the genre that looks beyond cliches to skewer racial stereotypes. I was cracking up when I saw it in theaters a few years ago, and it made me fondly remember the "Scary Movie" franchise back in its heyday.

Hulu is a great streaming service to use for your next weekend movie marathon. Not only does it regularly add originals and classics to its library, but, because it's owned by Disney, it's the streaming home for new releases from several Disney-owned studios. Another recent movie that just arrived is "Kneecap," an excellent Irish comedy-drama about the Emerald Isle's most famous rap group. Finally, I'm taking you back to 2001 for a Steven Spielberg science fiction film that was originally set to be directed by Stanley Kubrick. With a new sci-fi flick incoming from Spielberg later this month, this movie will be a perfect warm-up for "Disclosure Day."

'Keeper' (2025)

Genre: Folk horror movie

What's it about? "Keeper" stars Rossif Sutherland and Tatiana Maslany as Maclolm and Liz, a couple set for a weekend trip to a secluded cabin. But once Malcolm's cousin (Darren Westbridge) and the cousin's girlfriend unexpectedly arrive, things quickly take a turn. 'Kneecap' (2024)

Genre: Biographical comedy-drama movie

What's it about? Some of you might be familiar with the Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap, especially after this biopic launched the group into another level of stardom. It's part insightful examination of life for the generation of Irish in Belfast that grew up after the Good Friday Agreement, part love letter to the Irish language, but 100% worth a watch.

Why you need to watch it: You'll need to turn on the subtitles for this movie's Irish dialogue, and not just because of the accents. Irish as a language is integral to the purpose of this movie, as well as the purpose of Kneecap's music itself. This film was a critical darling when it came out in 2024, and once you watch it, you'll know why.

'A.I. Artificial Intelligence' (2001)

Genre: Science fiction movie

What's it about? "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence" is set in a futuristic society and centers around David (Haley Joel Osment). He's an artificial child programmed with the ability to love, and intended as a surrogate son for Monica (Frances O'Connor) and Henry (Sam Robards), but things get complicated once their real son (Jake Thomas) is unexpectedly cured of a possibly terminal disease.

Why you need to watch it: With "Disclosure Day" right around the corner, there's no better time to dive into a Steven Spielberg sci-fi movie. This one holds a special place in Spielberg's canon as well, as it was originally intended to be a Stanley Kubrick film, until the legendary director handed it off to Spielberg in 1995.

What's it about? "Not Suitable for Work" stars Ella Hunt, Avantika Vandanapu, Will Angus, Jack Martin and Nicholas Duvernay as a group of 20-somethings who are trying to make it work as young professionals in Manhattan. But one of them, AJ (Hunt), is already attracted to her boss (Jay Ellis), so it's safe to say things won't go smoothly.

Why you should watch it: I haven't seen a full episode yet, but I've seen some clips from this show, and it looks funny. I was already intrigued, given Mindy Kaling is the creative mind behind this new comedy series, but I think I'm officially sold on watching it this weekend.

'Rivals' season 2

Genre: British period comedy-drama series

What's it about? British MP Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) does not get along with Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant) do not get along. They have an intense rivalry that doesn't have any boundaries; it's already seeped into Rutshire and Tony's TV company, Corinium. In season 2, it's also seeped into British politics and threatens to bring down at least one of these two men.

Why you should watch it: If you love David Tennant, then it's a must-watch. If you love a British period piece, then "Rivals" is a must-watch. Catch up now before the first half of season 2 draws to a close this weekend.

'Deli Boys' seasons 1-2

Genre: Crime comedy series

What's it about? Mir (Asif Ali) and his brother Raj (Saagar Shaikh) are suddenly thrust into running Dark DarCo when their father, Baba (Iqbal Theba), dies. Turns out, he ran a secret drug empire and now these two are in charge. In season 2, they and their right-hand woman, Lucky (Poorna Jagannathan), join forces with casino magnate Max Sugar (Fred Armisen) to launder their dirty cash, but it does not go the way Mir and Raj expected.

Why you should watch it: This show has been on my watchlist since the critically beloved season 1 premiered in 2025. The addition of Armisen has me even more sold on checking it out, and this weekend might be the perfect time to do it.

It’s set to be a very busy week for new movies across the best streaming services. Over the coming days, the biggest platforms around will be competing for your attention with Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock and Disney+ all offering new flicks for subscribers to enjoy.

With so many options, it’s hard to know where to start, but I suspect the biggest hit of the week will be the new rom-com “Office Romance” on Netflix, which stars “Ted Lasso’s” Brett Goldstein alongside Jennifer Lopez. However, if a glossy rom-com isn’t your speed, there’s overlooked horror “Hokum” on premium streaming, Pixar’s latest family adventure “Hoppers” on Disney Plus, and “Pillion” on HBO Max, an erotic drama with Alexander Skarsgård.

Below, I’ve combed through all the most notable new movies across streaming services and picked out the ones you need to know about. Plus, don’t forget to see our companion guide covering all the top new TV shows on streaming this week.

‘Hokum’ (PVOD)

It’s been a fantastic year for new horror movies, and while “Obsession” and “Backrooms” currently have a lock on the box office, supernatural chiller “Hokum” didn’t quite get its own moment in the spotlight. That’s a shame, as this horror flick, directed by Damian McCarthy, is one that genre fans won’t want to miss. Even as a horror veteran desensitized to the genre’s usual tricks, there’s a large section of this movie that really freaked me out.

Ohm Bauman (Adam Scott) is an American author crippled by writer’s block. To remedy this, he takes a trip to rural Ireland, specifically to spread his parents' ashes at the hotel where they honeymooned several decades previously. Once on location, Ohm learns of local superstitions that claim a ghostly witch haunts the honeymoon suite. In classic horror movie fashion, he decides to investigate, leading to an evening of spooky apparitions.

‘I Swear’ (PVOD)

“I, Swear” is something of an infamous movie. Due to the unfortunate (and unacceptable) events at the 2026 BAFTAs, the actual movie has been lost in the fallout. Hopefully, its arrival on premium streaming in the U.S. this week will shift the conversation, as the film itself deserves recognition. It stands as an excellent biographical comedy-drama that highlights the very real struggles faced every day by those dealing with Tourette's syndrome.

Inspired by the real-life story of John Davidson, a working-class Scot and Tourette's awareness campaigner, “I, Swear” sees Robert Aramayo play Davidson. Aramayo gives an award-winning performance that will be eligible for consideration at next year’s Oscars. The movie follows Davidson’s life, from his schoolyard struggles in the 1980s through to grappling with Tourette's as an adult and becoming a campaigner to raise awareness of the disorder. This movie is often very funny, but most of all, it's heartwarming and inspirational.

‘Hoppers’ (Disney+)

Pixar’s latest family movie has all the hallmarks of the beloved animation studio. A cast of adorable and likeable characters? Check. A sweet story with an emotional pull? Check. Some of the best animation in the business? Double-check. If you wanted to be cynical, you could accuse it of being Pixar on autopilot, but the studio’s formula has been delighting viewers of all ages for decades, and it’s hard to see “Hoppers” as anything but charming.

Mabel Tanaka (voiced by Piper Curda) is a rebellious teenager with a love of animals and nature passed down to her by her grandma. When the mayor of Beavertown announces plans to convert a forest glade, which is deeply special to Mabel, into a freeway, the teen springs into action. Discovering a scientific program that lets her inhabit the body of a beaver, she steps into the animal kingdom to lead the charge against the mayor’s plans.

‘Office Romance’ (Netflix)

Brett Goldstein is building a streaming dynasty. After starring in “Ted Lasso,” he went on to co-create the equally acclaimed series “Shrinking” for Apple TV. Now he’s taking his talents to Netflix as a co-writer of this new romantic comedy, which centers around, you’ve guessed it, an office romance. Goldstein stars as the male lead and is paired up with Jennifer Lopez to form a ludicrously attractive coupling. My vibe check is that critics might not embrace this new streaming original, but I have little doubt it’ll soar to Netflix No. 1.

Jackie Cruz (Lopez) is the demanding CEO of Air Cruz airline. She runs a very tight ship with a strict no-workplace-relationship policy. Forget working hard and playing hard, Jackie is all work. However, when lawyer Daniel Blanchflower (Goldstein) joins the company, the two have instant chemistry, which soon blossoms into a full-blown romance. Naturally, this creates a headache as Jackie has to pick between business and pleasure.

‘Keeper’ (Hulu)

Speaking of dynasties, Osgood Perkins is quickly becoming one of the top names in the horror genre. After helming “Longlegs” and “The Monkey” and producing the current No. 1 movie in North America, “Backrooms,” Perkins is becoming a bankable filmmaker. However, his 2025 effort “Keeper” is perhaps something of an anomaly in that regard, as this folk-style horror came and went without much fanfare. Maybe it’ll pick up steam now that it’s heading to Hulu.

Starring Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland, “Keeper” centers on a free-spirited artist, Liz (Maslany), who is taken to a remote cabin in the countryside by her boyfriend (Sutherland) to celebrate the couple's first anniversary. Once in the secluded setting, terrifying visions haunt Liz, and that’s just the start of this nightmare trip. “Keeper” was no critical darling (it scores just 50% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it could be worth a watch if you’re looking for seriously unsettling moments, as it packs quite a few.

‘Pillion’ (HBO Max)

A word of warning: do not watch “Pillion” with your parents. This extremely erotic drama leaves almost nothing to the imagination and would likely lead to some very uncomfortable silences. Still, for all the headlines it made for its graphic scenes, there’s a lot more to “Pillion.” For starters, you’ve got an immaculate performance from Alexander Skarsgård, playing an effortlessly cool biker. Oh, and the movie is gorgeously shot as well.

Colin (Harry Melling) is an introvert working a menial job and struggling with self-confidence. His world is changed after an encounter with Ray (Skarsgård), who is pretty much the polar opposite. When Ray decides to take on Colin as his submissive, the once timid Colin begins to come out of his shell and discovers a whole new side of himself. This is no “50 Shades of Grey” situation, as “Pillion” scores an impressive 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Lorne’ (Peacock)

“Saturday Night Live” has left an undeniable imprint on the world of comedy and television as a whole, and for almost all of its five-decade run, producer Lorne Michaels has been guiding the ship from the wings. His eye for spotting comedic talent is legendary, and this documentary from Academy Award-winner Morgan Neville (“20 Feet from Stardom,” “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”) highlights the producer extraordinaire.

With input from a host of SNL favorites, including Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Chris Rock, Steve Martin, Seth Meyers, Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and more (so many more), “Lorne” is a loving tribute to the often-unseen force behind the scenes who shaped comedy and culture for generations. It’s a documentary that will appeal to “Saturday Night Live” superfans and those less familiar with the sketch show alike. Just don’t expect this documentary to ask any hard-hitting questions, as it’s more of an affectionate celebration of Lorne Michaels career.

Last week, when Disney finally enabled profile merging between Hulu and Disney+, the media giant promised that there were "no current plans" to sunset the Hulu app. That promise may have been made too soon.

Business Insider reported that an internal memo reveals Disney is working on shutting down the standalone Hulu streaming app. The memo allegedly reveals a plan dubbed "Project Gemini" that brings Hulu's content to Disney+.

It's part of an overall plan that Disney has discussed to bring a unified experience between the various streaming options the company owns. Project Gemini is supposed to be completed by the end of 2026.

"The Hulu tech stack and app will be decommissioned after all users have transitioned," BI reports. An unnamed insider said that Hulu is on "life support."

You can already watch select Hulu shows on Disney+, and it's possible that Disney will offer a distinct Hulu package even if the standalone app disappears later this year.

How to link your Hulu profile to Disney+

Before the Hulu app goes away, you may want to link your Hulu profile to Disney+. Doing so will bring your Hulu watch history, watchlist and recommendations into Disney+. It will even let you pick up where you left off on shows and movies that you were already watching.

Navigate to the Disney+ app or the disneyplus.com website. Once there, sign in with the same MyDisney login that you use for Hulu.

You should be prompted to link your Hulu profile to an existing Disney+ profile. Once linked, you should see your Hulu history and recommendations in the "For You" tab on the Home screen.

As of this writing, 18+ Hulu profile linking is not yet available, though Disney has promised it will be an option soon. It will be available for eligible Disney+ and Hulu bundle subscribers and Disney+, Hulu and ESPN bundle subscribers. Linking for all bundle subscribers is supposed to arrive later this year.

Hulu is a great streaming service for streaming new movies. Not only does it regularly add originals and classics to its library, but, because it's owned by Disney, it's the streaming home for new releases from several Disney-owned studios. It's the perfect place to start building your next movie marathon.

This weekend, I have three movies recently added to Hulu that are a must-watch. They're all relatively new releases, too. "Descendent" was a well-liked extraterrestrial sci-fi thriller from last year that just landed on Hulu. "Afraid" is also a sci-fi movie with some thrilling elements that's new to Hulu, though admittedly, it's far less well-liked. Finally, there's "Arco." This movie also has sci-fi elements, but without the horror vibes. It's a must-watch for any Studio Ghibli fan, and was even nominated for an Oscar just this year.

'Descendent' (2025)

Genre: Sci-fi thriller movie

What's it about? Sean (Ross Marquand) is a school security guard who struggles with childhood trauma. Despite this, he and his wife, Andrea (Sarah Bolger), are eagerly preparing for the birth of their first child. That plan gets upended, though, when, during his night shift, a mysterious beam of light appears in the sky. After the encounter, he wakes up in a hospital and finds he has some unexplained new abilities.

Why you should watch it: This gives "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" vibes, but with a bit more horror going on than a pure alien abduction story. Just be warned, while critics rated it highly on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences were not so kind.

'Afraid' (2024)

Genre: Sci-fi horror movie

What's it about? Turns out that "Afraid" is really "AfAId," because this sci-fi horror movie features a murderous A.I. voiced by Havana Rose Liu. This A.I., named AIA, is supposed to help Curtis (John Cho) and Meredith (Katherine Waterston) around the house with their three kids. But it becomes clear that it's getting too close to the family, and the family might not survive without it.

Why you need to watch it: This movie is reviled by critics and audiences didn't love it either, at least according to Rotten Tomatoes. But the hate isn't universal; more than a few reviews suggest it's worth giving a shot. Maybe it's so bad it's good? Or maybe it's just misunderstood? You'll have to watch to find out.

'Arco' (2026)

Genre: French animated fantasy movie

What's it about? Arco (Oscar Tresanini [French]/Juliano Krue Valdi [English dub]) is a young boy from the year 2932. That time is a utopia, where time travel exists. But when Arco tries to see the dinosaurs, he ends up stranded in 2075. This time is far more dangerous than his own, and features frequent extreme weather events that have forced humanity to live behind bubble-like barriers.

Why you need to watch it: This movie immediately gave off Studio Ghibli vibes, and that's never a bad thing. It's also been very well received, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 2026 Academy Awards. Like Studio Ghibli films, it features impressive native-language voice actors and English-language actors, so don't be afraid to opt for the dubbed version. The English voice cast for "Arco" includes Mark Ruffalo, Natalie Portman, Will Ferrell, Andy Samberg and Flea; an impressive cast.

'Deli Boys' season 2

Genre: Crime comedy series

What's it about? When their father, Baba (Iqbal Theba), dies, Mir (Asif Ali) and his brother Raj (Saagar Shaikh) are suddenly thrust into running Dark DarCo, their father's secret drug empire. In season 2, they and their right-hand woman, Lucky (Poorna Jagannathan), join forces with casino king Max Sugar (Fred Armisen) to try and launder all their dirty cash, and chaos is almost certain to ensue.

Why you should watch it: This show looks hilarious, and has been on my watchlist since the critically beloved season 1 premiered in 2025. The addition of Armisen looks like a stroke of genius and I can't wait to check it out.

'The Testaments'

Genre: Dystopian drama series

What's it about? "The Testaments" is set years after "The Handmaid's Tale" and stars "One Battle After Another" actress Chase Infiniti as Agnes. She's a top student, but her life gets flipped on its head when she's tasked with helping a new Canadian convert to the theocracy of Gilead, Daisy (Lucy Halliday). As Agnes helps Daisy get accustomed to her new home, she comes to realize not everything is what it seems.

Why you should watch it: "The Handmaid's Tale" was a massive hit for Hulu, and this sequel has picked up where the original left off. It scored a 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and you can now binge the entire 10-episode first season.

'Welcome to Wrexham' season 5

Genre: Sports docuseries

What's it about? When actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought a Welsh football club, Wrexham A.F.C., the goal was not to go broke. But quickly, the goal became rebuilding not just the club, but the town of Wrexham as well. "Welcome to Wrexham" chronicles that rebuild, and now, five seasons in, Wrexham is on the precipice of promotion to the English Premier League.

Why you should watch it: Not all episodes of this show are created equal, but at least one episode a season will devastate you emotionally. Spoiler alert: this season, it's the first episode, which had me choked up watching it. Even if you already know how Wrexham's promotion bid ends (this is chronicling real-life events, after all), this documentary will open your eyes and your heart to Wales and the Welsh people.

'Bob's Burgers' season 16

Genre: Animated sitcom series

What's it about? "Bob's Burgers" tells the story of the Belcher family, who live in the fictional Jersey Shore town of Seymour's Bay. Patriarch Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and his wife Linda (John Roberts) struggle to get by running a small burger joint, while their kids, Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman) and Louise (Kristen Schaal), get into hijinks.

Why you should watch it: In short, because this show is hilarious. In fact, it's so hilarious that it's now run for 15 years, putting it in the rarified air of shows like "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons." I find that it's managed to stay far less stale than the aforementioned iconic shows, though, and I constantly find myself coming back to watch it.

'Rivals' season 2

Genre: British period comedy-drama series

What's it about? British MP Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) and Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant) do not get along. They have an intense rivalry that has now seeped into the fictional Rutshire and Tony's independent television company, Corinium. In season 2, Tony is ready to take down his rivals and the corporate television monolith, Venturer, which has its sights set on Corinium.

Why you should watch it: If you love David Tennant, then it's a must-watch. If you love a British period piece, then "Rivals" is a must-watch. If you don't like either of those things .... well, then it's probably best you don't watch the show.

Not only does it regularly add originals and classics to its library, but, because it's owned by Disney, it's the streaming home for new releases from several Disney-owned studios. It's the perfect place to start building your next movie marathon.

This weekend, I have three movies recently added to Hulu that are a must-watch. Some of these are more recent; "Arco" only just came out in U.S. theaters earlier this year, and is a must-watch for the Studio Ghibli fan. "Alien: Romulus" is also relatively recent, and returns the "Alien" franchise to its horror roots. But I'm saving the best for last: "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Quentin Tarantino's Oscar-winning movie is now over half a decade old, but it's still a must-watch, especially with a sequel coming later this year.

'Arco' (2026)

Genre: French animated fantasy movie

What's it about? Arco (Oscar Tresanini [French]/Juliano Krue Valdi [English dub]) is from the year 2932, which is essentially a utopia. He attempts to time-travel to see the dinosaurs, but ends up stranded in 2075, where frequent extreme weather events have forced humanity to live behind bubble-like barriers.

Why you need to watch it: If you're a Studio Ghibli fan, this movie should be easy to connect with. It debuted at Cannes last year and went on to be nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2026 Oscars. Like Studio Ghibli films, it features impressive native-language voice actors, but also puts great effort into its English-language dub. The English voice cast for "Arco" includes Mark Ruffalo, Natalie Portman, Will Ferrell, Andy Samberg and Flea, so don't be afraid to go dubs over subs this one time.

'Alien: Romulus' (2024)

Genre: Sci-fi horror movie

What's it about? "Alien: Romulus" is set between the events of "Alien" and "Aliens." It stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu as six space colonists desperate to get off a perpetually dark planet LV-410, where they're forced into working at a mining colony. They make it to the abandoned space station Renaissance, but once there, they encounter hostile creatures, and not everyone makes it out alive.

Why you should watch it: If you like the horror vibes of "Alien" over the action-heavy "Aliens," then this movie was made for you. It returns the franchise to its dark, chilling roots and puts "Evil Dead" director Fede Álvarez in charge of the thrilling affair.

'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' (2019)

Genre: Period comedy-drama movie

What's it about? "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is set in an alternate version of 1969 Los Angeles. It centers around Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), a fading star, and his stunt double (Brad Pitt) as they navigate a rapidly changing film industry about to be rocked by the mysterious Charles Manson (Damon Herriman).

Why you need to watch it: This is an incredible period piece with an even more impressive cast. Aside from DiCaprio and Pitt (Pitt would win Best Supporting Actor for his performance), the movie features literally too many well-known actors to list out here. Top of the list is Margot Robbie, who steals a scene or two as the 1960s Hollywood actress Sharon Tate.

Disney Plus and Hulu have been slowly merging into one behemoth app like a streaming version of 'The Thing'. Starting today (May 20) though, Disney is adding several Hulu-related features to your Plus profile.

This involves linking your Hulu profile to Disney Plus. Linking the two adds your watch history, watchlist and Hulu recommendations into the Disney app. It makes one of the best streaming services even better.

Disney has plans to fully merge Hulu and Disney Plus onto the same technical platform per a report from Variety. For now though, the Hulu app lives on.

A spokesperson told the magazine that "there are no current plans to sunset the Hulu app."

How to link your Hulu profile with Disney Plus

You need to download the Disney Plus app or go to the disneyplus.com website. Once there sign-in with the same MyDisney login that you use for Hulu.

The app should prompt you to link your Hulu profile to an existing Disney Plus profile. One you've linked your profiles, you'll be able to choose avatars from Hulu alongside the existing Disney Plus ones.

According to Disney, 18+ Hulu profile linking isn't available yet but should arrive in the coming days. This will be available for eligible Disney Plus and Hulu bundle, and Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN bundle subscribers. Linking for all bundle subscribers is coming later this year.

Apparently, you do not need a Disney Plus subscription to link. However, if you don't have one you'll get a "small sampling" of Disney Plus and ESPN content. This is mostly to get you to sign up for one of the Disney Plus bundles.

Finding your Hulu content in Disney Plus

One your profile is linked, you'll be able to see your Hulu watch history and recommendations in the "For You" tab on the Home screen. Hulu already has a dedicated hub on Disney Plus that you can find in the Hulu tab in the navigation bar.

Shows and movies you've already started in Hulu will appear in the "Continue Watching" section of the app. Media you've put in the "My Stuff" list on Hulu will now appear in the Disney Plus "Watchlist" section too.

Disney says that it will start testing a new "Live Guide" to find live content which will include the ABC News Live and Disney Plus Playtime streams as well as ESPN networks. Hulu adds-ons like Live TV will stay in the Hulu app for now though.

This week's slate of top new movies across streaming services is particularly packed. In fact, pretty much all the major platforms are getting involved with Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Peacock and HBO Max offering new films.

In the premium streaming space, you buy (or rent) "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie." But if you don't want to cough up a PVOD fee, you can instead enjoy a new satirical comedy on Netflix, the return of Jack Ryan on Prime Video, or the entire "Kill Bill" saga in one seamless experience over on Peacock. And that's just the start of this week's new movie offerings.

With so many new streaming movies to cover, let's not waste time. Here are all the most noteworthy movies you can watch at home in the coming days. Plus, don't forget our guide to the best new TV shows this week.

'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ (PVOD)

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” blasts onto premium streaming this week. The sequel to the 2023 movie that brought Nintendo’s iconic plumber to the big screen is another sugar rush adventure, boasting rainbow-colored visuals, plenty of beloved gaming characters, and a plot as thin as paper. It’s a fun distraction, just don’t expect a story that's any more complex than the one you’d typically find in a Super Mario video game.

Now settled in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) travel to the cosmos to help Princess Rosalina (Brie Larson). But much like the movie version of Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), she’s no damsel in distress, and is more than capable of fending off the villainous Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie) with the help of her magical Lumas pals. Oh, and Jack Black returns as the bigger Bowser, and is again a real evil delight.

‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy’ (PVOD)

The latest "Mummy" doesn’t star Tom Cruise or Brendan Fraser, but is instead a horror spin from Lee Cronin, director of “Evil Dead Rise.” It’s not so much an evolution of the franchise; instead, it’s a return to its roots. “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” brings the series back to its Universal Monster roots (but Warner Bros is the distributor, so expect the film on HBO Max in the future). I’d love to say it’s also a return to form, but I didn’t care for this one.

The horror flick sees a journalist (Jack Reynor) stunned when his daughter is found eight years after going missing in Egypt. However, her homecoming turns dark when it becomes clear she’s been possessed by a sinister evil. Gore fans will love how bloody disgusting this movie gets, but it’s lacking in scares, and the bloated runtime is the real killer. Perhaps the return of Brendan Fraser's version of “The Mummy” will fare better in 2028.

‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War’ (Prime Video)

You can’t keep Jack Ryan down for long. The popular Prime Video series starring “The Office’s” John Krasinski as the titular CIA analyst-turned-superspy concluded after four seasons in 2023, but Ryan is back in this feature-length continuation of the franchise. The movie doesn’t premiere on Prime until Wednesday, but a few early reviews online suggest it’s basically more of the same, which I reckon most fans won’t mind.

Prime Video seems to be keeping the plot largely under wraps, and I’ll admit I haven't watched the original Jack Ryan series on Prime Video (I might have watched one episode on a plane several years ago). However, the logline reads, “Jack Ryan reunites with CIA operatives to navigate betrayal from an enemy who knows their moves and faces a past once thought settled.” Sure does sound like the plot of a Jack Ryan film to me!

‘Arco’ (Hulu)

Nominated for a Critics' Choice Award, Golden Globe and Oscar, if you’re looking for an animated movie that's perfect for the whole family this week, my advice is to skip Mario and meet Arco instead.

This French movie is a little all-over-the-shop tonally, so it might not be suitable for very young audiences, but it’s got dazzling moments and a sweet story about finding family in unexpected places. Plus, the English-language dub packs the voices of Mark Ruffalo, Natalie Portman, Will Ferrell, Andy Samberg, America Ferrera, and Flea. Yes, the “Red Hot Chili Peppers" bassist.

Arco is a 10-year-old boy in a distant future where flight and time travel are possible. Frustrated that his parents deem him too young to fly, he steals his sister’s magical gear and accidentally gets stuck in the year 2075. Here, he meets a precocious young girl and her robot caretaker. The two set about on a quest to return Arco home and maybe even save the world.

‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’ (Peacock)

Director Quentin Tarantino has always said that he views “Kill Bill” as one single movie, rather than a two-parter, as it was originally released in 2003 and 2004. Now you can enjoy this martial arts masterpiece the way it was intended, thanks to “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.” As you can probably surmise, this butt-numbingly long 253-minute action epic is “Kill Bill: Volume 1” and “Kill Bill: Volume 2” stitched together to become a single movie. And there’s also an animated short thrown in as a sweetener.

If you’ve not seen either “Kill Bill” movie yet, first of all, where have you been the last two decades, and second of all, “The Whole Bloody Affair” is the perfect excuse to catch up. The movie stars Uma Thurman as “The Bride,” a former assassin, betrayed by her once boss/lover and left for dead on the eve of her wedding day. Naturally, she swears bloody revenge on the eponymous Bill (David Carradine) and his gang of lethal killers.

‘Ladies First’ (Netflix)

Netflix’s new original comedy looks to bring together an exciting cast (Sacha Baron Cohen, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Emily Mortimer and Charles Dance) while using its comedy to make an important point. It’s a movie that explores the power dynamics between men and women, and what would happen if the established societal norms were shifted.

Damien Sachs (Cohen) is living the good life. He has power, money, and a never-ending string of casual flings. But days before being named CEO at a leading ad agency, he awakes to his own personal nightmare: A parallel world where women call the shots. Locked in a corporate battle for control against the empowered Alex Fox (Pike), Damien has to get his head around this new world, and maybe he’ll learn a life lesson or two along the way.

‘The Bride!’ (HBO Max)

If you’re the morbidly curious type, perhaps you’ll want to check out “The Bride!” this week on HBO Max.

My colleague, Malcolm McMillan, labeled it a frontrunner for the worst movie of 2026 earlier this year. I can’t fully agree with that assessment (it’s hard to see anything being worse in my books than “Return to Silent Hill”), but I can very much agree that it’s awful. It’s a mess of a movie that leaps between blaffingly silly scenes played with a curious seriousness and terrible attempts at dark comedy. Plus, it wastes a very talented cast list.

A new spin on Mary Shelley’s classic gothic novel, “The Bride!” sees a murdered woman (Jessie Buckley) brought back from the dead to serve as a companion to Frank (Christian Bale), a monster created by Dr. Frankenstein. In classic Bonnie and Clyde style, the two go on the lam, causing chaos everywhere they go, while the authorities hunt them down.

Right now, we’re in the yearning era, a time where films and TV shows have collectively decided that restraint and pining are infinitely more compelling than instant gratification. Prime Video’s newest No. 1 show “Off Campus” is the latest addition to the trend, centering on characters who clearly want each other but refuse to admit it just yet. Having binge-watched the entire season, it leans heavily into the slow-burn formula, and it joins a long line of shows that treat longing as one of the most powerful parts of the story.

Some other strong examples include “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “One Day,” and even “The Vampire Diaries” with its iconic love triangle between two vampire brothers and a young human woman. You also have every “Pride and Prejudice” adaptation. With romance clearly shifting toward yearning-led storytelling, there’s no better time to lean into it, and plenty more shows to explore if you’ve already finished “Off Campus.”

Plus, “Off Campus” has already been renewed for season 2, so there might be some time to wait until we enter this world again. In the meantime, here are five shows like “Off Campus” streaming on HBO Max, Netflix and more.

‘Heated Rivalry’

If you enjoyed the competitive hockey aspect of “Off Campus,” along with the insane amount of yearning, you’ll want to stream “Heated Rivalry.” Based on the bestselling novel by Rachel Reid, the series became a massive hit on HBO Max when it premiered in 2025. Naturally, it was renewed for season 2 almost instantly, largely thanks to its ability to break barriers with a high-budget mainstream TV series centered around a queer relationship. Beyond that, it’s incredibly steamy and romantic, telling a deeply intimate story about vulnerability and connection.

“Heated Rivalry” follows Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), two elite hockey players drafted to rival professional teams whose intense competition on the ice slowly turns into a complicated private relationship. Spanning several years of their careers, the series tracks how the pair repeatedly cross paths through games and major life changes while trying to keep their connection hidden from the public eye.

‘Maxton Hall’

Prime Video has another yearning-filled show worth checking out, and that’s “Maxton Hall.” It’s an adaptation of Mona Kasten’s German romance novel, the first book in her popular trilogy. The series is an addictive, highly aesthetic teen drama centered around an intense enemies-to-lovers romance, which is a trope I’ll always fall back on. What makes it even more interesting is that, despite being a German-language show, it’s set almost entirely in England and features some seriously impressive locations and set pieces.

Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) is a determined scholarship student attending an elite private school. Focused on earning a place at Oxford University, Ruby tries to stay unnoticed until she accidentally discovers a secret connected to the influential Beaufort family. This brings her into conflict with James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), the arrogant heir to a massive fortune who will do anything to protect his family’s reputation. As the two are repeatedly pushed together through school events and personal circumstances, their lives become increasingly intertwined.

‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’

HBO Max has another critically acclaimed series worth adding to your watchlist, and that’s “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” a comedy-drama that offers a fresh, modern, and unfiltered look at female friendship in the Gen-Z era. While it’s more comedic than “Off Campus” and doesn’t have the same level of steaminess, it never shies away from the messy, awkward, and hilarious realities of young adulthood. It’s also in the same vein as “Booksmart” and “Gossip Girl” when it comes to the juicy drama, chaotic relationships, and college antics.

“The Sex Lives of College Girls” follows four freshman roommates at the fictional Essex College in Vermont: Kimberly Finkle (Pauline Chalamet), a small-town scholarship student; Bela Malhotra (Amrit Kaur), an aspiring comedy writer; Whitney Chase (Alyah Chanelle Scott), a star soccer player and senator’s daughter; and Leighton Murray (Reneé Rapp), a wealthy legacy student from New York City. Despite their wildly different personalities and backgrounds, the four quickly become inseparable as they handle college life and relationships.

‘One Tree Hill’

I think most people know the iconic, generation-defining American teen and young adult drama series that originally aired from 2003 to 2012, “One Tree Hill.” Spanning nine seasons, it’s one of the defining staples of 2000s TV melodrama. The show tracks an ensemble cast of characters through their turbulent high school years in the fictional small town of Tree Hill. Rather than focusing on hockey like “Off Campus,” it centres on basketball and the pressures of excelling in the sport.

“One Tree Hill” follows the lives of half-brothers Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), who share the same father but grow up in completely different worlds. Lucas is a quiet outsider raised by his single mother, while Nathan is the wealthy, popular star of the high school basketball team. When Lucas joins the Ravens basketball team, tensions rise between the brothers and the people around them, including Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton), Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush), and Haley James (Bethany Joy Lenz).

‘Bridgerton’

“Bridgerton” might be an odd comparison on paper, but similar to “Off Campus,” it focuses on a different couple each season. Not to mention, the yearning is off the charts. If you somehow didn’t know, “Bridgerton” is an absolute juggernaut of a historical romance-drama streaming on Netflix. Adapted from Julia Quinn’s novels, each season focuses on a different sibling as they enter the competitive “marriage mart” in search of love. There are also several tropes like fake dating, enemies-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, and more.

Netflix’s “Bridgerton” follows the powerful Bridgerton family as they move through high society in Regency-era London, where reputation, status, and marriage prospects shape their everyday lives. Season 1 centers around Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of a prominent family, as she enters society’s competitive marriage “season” in search of a suitable match. Daphne’s prospects shift when she forms a fake relationship with the charismatic Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page).

Hulu is an ideal streaming service for building your weekend binge-watch. Not only does it have hit original shows, but it also features a range of shows from Disney-owned networks. It is already deep into its first season, with plenty of episodes ready to binge.

'Rivals' season 2

Genre: British period comedy-drama series

What's it about? British MP Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) and Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant) have an intense rivalry that has seeped into Rutshire and Tony's independent television company, Corinium. In season 2, Tony is ready to take down his rivals and the corporate television monolith, Venturer, which has its sights set on Corinium.

Why you should watch it: If you love a British period piece, then "Rivals" is a no-brainer. If you love David Tennant, then it's a must-watch. If you don't like either of those things, then it's probably best you don't watch the show. Luckily, everyone loves David Tennant.

'Welcome to Wrexham' season 5

Genre: Sports docuseries

What's it about? In 2021, actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought the Welsh football club, Wrexham A.F.C. The following year, they launched "Welcome to Wrexham," a docuseries chronicling their quest to return the club to glory. Now, five seasons into the show, Wrexham are on the precipice of something truly great: promotion to the English Premier League.

Why you should watch it: Promotion would be a truly unprecedented feat. Nobody has ever been promoted four seasons in a row, which is what Wrexham would need to do. But even if they fall short, this documentary will open your eyes and your heart to Wales and the Welsh people. At least one episode a season will devastate you emotionally; don't expect anything less in season 5.

'The Testaments'

Genre: Dystopian drama series

What's it about? Set years after "The Handmaid's Tale," "The Testaments" features "One Battle After Another" star Chase Infiniti as Agnes, a top student and dutiful child in the theocratic state of Gilead. Her life gets flipped on its head, though, when she's tasked with helping Canadian convert, Daisy (Lucy Halliday). As she gets Daisy accustomed to her new home, she comes to realize not everything is what it seems in Gilead.

Why you should watch it: "The Handmaid's Tale" was a massive hit for Hulu, and early reviews suggest they got the formula right again with this sequel. It currently has a 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes through eight episodes, so start binging now to catch up.

'Central Intelligence' (2016)

Genre: Action comedy movie

What's it about? This buddy comedy stars Kevin Hart as Calvin "Golden Jet" Joyner, a former star high school athlete now living a mundane life as an accountant. It also stars Dwayne Johnson as Bob Stone, aka Robbie Weirdicht, a formerly nerdy kid who went to high school with Calvin but then got jacked and joined the CIA. Now, he needs Calvin's help to save the world from a terrorist who intends to sell top-secret satellite codes.

Why you need to watch it: If you like a fun movie with a bit of action that doesn't take itself too seriously, "Central Intelligence" is a perfect choice. Hart and Johnson work well together on screen, and the movie is undeniably funny.

'Abraham's Boys' (2025)

Genre: Horror movie

What's it about? "Abraham's Boys" is based on a novel of the same name that serves as a sequel to the novel Dracula. It's set 20 years after the legendary tale, centered around Mina Van Helsing (Jocelin Donahue), who, instead of marrying Jonathan Harker, married Dr. Abraham Van Helsing (Titus Welliver). They're now living in the California Central Valley with their two sons, Max and Rudy, but escaping to America won't allow Abraham to escape his past.

Why you should watch it: While this might seem like another vampire movie, it's not. The villain at the core of this film might not be an immortal figure from Transylvania, but instead a human who has spent their life trying to defeat these evil creatures.

'We Bury the Dead' (2025)

Genre: Zombie horror drama movie

What's it about? Daisy Ridley stars as Ava, a physiotherapist who is suddenly drawn into action when an American superweapon detonates off the Tasmanian coast. It not only destroys a city, but it renders the remaining inhabitants of the island brain dead (or undead!), potentially including Ava's husband Mitch.

Why you need to watch it: This movie is dark, with twists and turns you won't see coming. It's earned praise from most critics, particularly for Ridley's performance as Ava. It doesn't reinvent the zombie horror movie, but that doesn't mean it isn't a must-watch.

As a dedicated movie theater goer who sees more than 100 movies on the big screen every year (I just crossed over 40 trips to my local multiplex in 2026 so far), one of my additional goals is to shine a spotlight on the great movies I see that don’t necessarily get their much-deserved attention.

I’m not talking about major blockbusters here, but rather the movies that you might have heard of, but didn’t think were worth paying movie theater prices to watch. And even a few movies that (probably) totally passed you by. To ensure these movies don’t totally fall off the radar, I created this monthly column, “Movies You Skipped.” Welcome to May’s edition!

This month, there’s a darkly funny comedy-drama with two A-list stars, an even darker psychological thriller that haunts my dreams, a refreshing zombie flick with a “Star Wars” cast member, and more. Here are the movies you might have skipped in cinemas, but should circle back to enjoy now that they’re all available to watch at home on streaming services.

‘The Drama’ (PVOD)

“The Drama” was certainly a big deal on movie social media (FilmTok went wild for it), but outside of dedicated film fan communities, I feel like this darkly funny romantic comedy didn’t quite get the love it deserved. So, I’m championing it now that it's arrived on premium streaming. You’ve got Robert Pattinson and Zendaya at their best, which should be all you need to give this wild ride a shot. Trust me, you won’t expect how it plays out.

In fact, I find talking about “The Drama” a little tricky as the element of surprise is one of its core strengths. But, if you need a little more convincing before forking over a rental fee, it comes from director Kristoffer Borgli and centers on a seemingly loved-up couple (Pattinson and Zendaya), who are engaged. But just a week before the wedding, an unexpected revelation throws their impending marriage into doubt and might ruin their lives.

‘Hallow Road’ (Hulu)

“Hallow Road” is a movie I’ve been recommending for the best part of 12 months at this point. I adore this psychological horror-thriller. As a huge fan of horror in general, it takes a lot to spook me these days after being desensitised to many of the genre’s tricks, but “Hallow Road” is a rare flick that really freaked me out. My walk home from the theater had me checking over my shoulder in case somebody (or something) was watching.

Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys play a husband and wife who receive a distressing late-night call from their daughter. She’s been involved in a road accident while intoxicated, and they must race to the scene of the incident before anybody else can learn what’s happened. But as they travel through the night, the situation becomes something altogether more terrifying. Brilliantly paced and making great use of its minimalist setup, “Hallow Road” is a chiller that will haunt you for weeks afterward.

‘We Bury the Dead’ (Hulu)

At this point, it’s pretty hard to make a zombie movie feel fresh, so kudos to writer/director Zak Hilditch for breathing some new life into this well-charted subgenre. This movie premiered way back in 2024 in its native Australia, but finally hit U.S. shores in January and is now available to stream on Hulu, which should go some way to expanding its viewership.

Set in the wake of a military disaster, which has caused the dead to rise, Ava Newman (Daisy Ridley) joins an operation to enter the quarantine zone in the hopes of finding her missing husband. The government claims the walking dead are mostly harmless, slow-moving creatures. But upon entering the condemned area, Ava discovers the shocking truth: These zombies aren’t docile, but violent, relentless and growing more dangerous.

‘The Christophers’ (PVOD)

Steven Soderbergh’s new movie “The Christophers” isn’t quite what I expected. Due to its setup, which revolves around a crafty con, and because Soderbergh frequently works in the thriller genre, I had expected an intense, twist-fueled movie. Instead, it’s an emotional, charming and thoughtful comedy-drama. It’s also anchored by one of Ian McKellen’s best performances, and Michaela Coel is no less fantastic playing alongside him.

Lori (Coel) is a young artist hired by the children of legendary painter Julian Sklar (McKellen) to work as an assistant. But Sklar’s son (James Corden) and daughter (Jessica Gunning) have more immoral motivations; they want Lori to forge their father’s unfinished paintings so they can sell them off after his death and rake in a fortune. Lori is initially onboard, but as she gets to know the grumpy Julian, she begins to second-guess her involvement.

‘Goat’ (Netflix)

“Goat” was no flop at the box office, but when compared to the likes of "Zootopia 2,” it’s clear that a lot of families decided this animated comedy set in a world inhabited by anthropomorphic animals wasn’t worth the cost of a trip to the movies. Now that it’s arrived on Netflix, I have no doubt it’ll become a family favorite, and a much-appreciated colorful distraction for parents looking to get the kids out of their hair for even just a little while.

Will (McLaughlin) is a small goat that dreams of being just like his hero, a panther named Jett Fillmore (Gabrielle Union), who plays for the Vineland Thorns. However, the sport of Roarball is dominated by the fastest and most ferocious animal in the kingdom. After being given a surprising shot at the big leagues and despite being mocked by teammates, including Jett, Will steps onto the court to prove that animals of all sizes can ball.

If I could only recommend that you stream one movie right now, it'd be "Send Help," which recently came to Hulu and Disney+. I've already watched dozens of new movies in 2026, but I think Sam Raimi's thriller/horror-comedy is still hands down one of my favorite new watches of the year so far.

If you didn't catch it earlier this year, "Send Help" is a survival thriller with Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien, and it is brilliantly entertaining. Twisty, surprising and very funny. I think "Send Help" is an absolute riot; as long as you've got the stomach for its grosser moments, I'm confident you'll have a great time if you stream it on Hulu.

What is 'Send Help' about?

"Send Help" revolves around Linda Liddle, a reliable, overlooked corporate strategist (and "Survivor" megafan), and her arrogant new boss, Bradley Preston (Dylan O'Brien).

En route to a business meeting, their plane crashes over the ocean, and the two wash up on a deserted island as the only survivors. Stranded, the pair are forced to set aside their differences and work together in order to stay alive... but out in the wild, that devolves into a devilish battle of wits between the two as they fight for their lives on their new island home.

In addition to McAdama and O'Brien, "Send Help" also features Edyll Ismail, Dennis Haysbert, Xavier Samuel, Chris Pang, Thaneth Warakulnukroh and Emma Raimi.

'Send Help' is a gnarly, gloriously fun horror/comedy

I saw "Send Help" not long after it hit the big screen, and my full showing was soundtracked with gasps, laughs and the odd wince in one of the film's grimmer moments. And that's understandable, because this is a truly wild film in every sense of the word.

Sam Raimi's latest is a gnarly, unpredictable thrill ride set in an unforgiving setting, and it just works. It's sharply written, pacy, has a great sense of humor, turning even a fraught struggle with a boar or the grim spectacle of a plane crash into wickedly entertaining moments, yet still manages to maintain that tension.

It wouldn't work without two very game leads in the mix, and thankfully, Raimi has exactly that with McAdams and O'Brien. The film puts them through the wringer, and they bring so much energy to every single scene. All in all, it's just delightfully entertaining, both as a survival thriller and a horror comedy.

You don't just need to take my word for it, either, as "Send Help" comes well recommended. At the time of writing, it's still sitting at 93% from critics over on Rotten Tomatoes (from more than 280 accredited reviews), and it has an audience score that's not much lower (87%). It also narrowly missed out on third place when we asked our readers to vote for the best new movie of 2026 so far back in March.

Reviewing for RogerEbert.com, Richard Roeper gave the film a 3.5/4 star rating, who said McAdams delivers "what just might be the best performance of her career" and summed the film up as an "R-rated, Sam Raimi thrill ride with projectile vomiting, flying ropes of blood, and a handful of scenes that fly so off the rails that you wonder if we’re in the middle of a dream sequence, or the mayhem is real."

At Time Out, Phil de Semlyen gave it four stars, calling the film "a major return to form for the 'Evil Dead' man" and "a gloriously over-the-top battle of wits that plays out like a violent mix of 'Cast Away,' 'Misery,' 'Lord of the Flies,' and a day out with Bear Grylls."

It also earned the same rating from Empire's Helen O'Hara, who pitches it as "exactly the kind of Sam Raimi film his fans have been waiting for."

Simply put, if you're looking for something for a feral survival thriller to stream this week, you're going to want to add "Send Help" to your watchlist.

Anyone who knows me knows I love a good piece of zombie media. My favorite show of all time is “The Walking Dead,” and ever since I first started watching it, I’ve had a soft spot for the genre. So I like to think I’m pretty well-versed in the world of zombie storytelling. However, there’s one survival horror film I only discovered recently, which is “We Bury the Dead.”

Released globally in early 2026 after a 2025 festival premiere, “We Bury the Dead” is a survival horror-thriller directed by Zak Hilditch. Unlike many action-heavy zombie films, this one leans more toward character-driven drama, with the horror elements used to frame a more personal story centred on trauma and the need for closure, set against a bleak post-disaster world.

It won’t be for everyone, especially those expecting constant action from a zombie film. But as a fan of the genre, I found “We Bury the Dead” to be a real surprise. If you’re looking for something different to stream this weekend on Hulu, here’s why it’s worth adding to your watchlist.

What is ‘We Bury the Dead’ about?

“We Bury the Dead” is set in Tasmania after a catastrophic military experiment goes wrong. When a U.S. weapon detonates off the coast, it wipes out much of the population and leaves many of the dead in a strange state where some begin to reanimate. The story follows Ava Newman (Daisy Ridley), a woman whose husband went missing during the disaster.

Refusing to accept he is gone, she joins a body recovery unit tasked with locating and disposing of corpses across the devastated region. While working in the field, Ava encounters unsettling signs that not all of the dead remain lifeless, and she becomes increasingly determined to travel deeper into dangerous territory in search of her husband. Her journey takes her across isolated stretches of Tasmania as she follows leads that might bring her closer to finding him.

‘We Bury the Dead’ is a different kind of zombie film

Given that the premise of “We Bury the Dead” is centred on a woman determined to find her husband, it makes sense the film opens with a melancholic glimpse of them as a happily married couple, before cutting to the disaster via video recordings. The disaster is caused by an experimental U.S. military weapon that accidentally detonates off the coast of Tasmania. It wipes out around half a million people, with a strange side effect in which some of the dead begin to reanimate and regain movement.

It’s clearly not your typical zombie film where a virus spreads or an infection drives the outbreak. The film never fully explains why it happens, and that ambiguity helps the story thrive by keeping the focus on the characters. Daisy Ridley is the driving force of “We Bury the Dead,” delivering one of her most visceral and grounded performances to date. The story centres on the internal wreckage of its characters, especially Ava, who is forced to confront difficult truths along her journey.

As mentioned, “We Bury the Dead” takes its time to explore its characters, so don’t expect a lot of zombie action. It plays more like a slow-burn survival thriller, with the film prioritizing tension and dread throughout. In fact, much of the “action” comes from the grueling, rhythmic task of searching through debris and bodies, with danger building through the atmosphere and a constant ticking clock. When action does occur, it’s deliberately jarring, especially given that Ava has no combat training whatsoever.

“We Bury the Dead” might not be as chaotic and gnarly as other zombie flicks, but it still holds the same impact. There was even a small plot twist I didn’t see coming near the end, but it was a clever way of making you want to rewatch the film so you notice the details, particularly in Ava’s character arc. Many zombie films focus so heavily on survival and the threat of the undead that they often overlook the fact that these corpses were once people with lives and families. “We Bury the Dead” reverses those tropes, and tells a perfectly human story.

Netflix’s latest original film adapts Shelby Van Pelt’s best-selling novel "Remarkably Bright Creatures" for a feel-good story that could be just the kind of feel-good watch you need this weekend. Sally Fielding stars as Tova Sullivan, a widow who works night shifts at a local aquarium, where she forms an unexpected bond with a giant Pacific octopus. Her life takes another turn when she crosses paths with a drifter (Lewis Pullman), who's in town searching for his estranged father. As their stories intertwine, they uncover a mystery that could reshape both of their lives and serve as a reminder of just how remarkable the world can be (see what I did there?).

‘The Drama’ (PVOD)

How well do you really know your partner? That's the question at the heart of "The Drama," a pitch-black comedy about marriage with a plot twist you'll never see coming. Robert Pattinson and Zendaya star as a seemingly picture-perfect couple only weeks away from their wedding. But as the big day approaches, an incident upends their world, sending their relationship into a spiral and putting their commitment to the test. "The Drama" stands out as one of the strongest films of 2026 so far, with standout performances from its two leads and deeply unsettling sequences that have haunted my mind ever since.

'We Bury the Dead' (Hulu)

Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley stars in this dark zombie horror movie that, while it doesn't reinvent the wheel or quite reach the heights of George Romero’s classic undead films, still packs in plenty of tension and twists that kept me glued to my seat. She plays Ava Newman, a physiotherapist caught in the aftermath of an experimental American superweapon that detonates off the coast of Tasmania. The blast destroys a city and kills much of the island’s population, including, as Ava fears, her missing husband Mitch (Matt Whelan). She joins a military recovery mission to retrieve the bodies of the victims, only to discover that the dead aren't staying that way for long. For a zombie thriller, it's rooted more in exploring grief than the carnage of shambling hordes of brain-eating undead you'd might expect.

"Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" (PVOD)

2019's "Ready or Not" was a surprisingly good time, and though I'm still not fully convinced a sequel needed to exist, it still makes for plenty of darkly comedic chaos. Picking up immediately after where the first film left off, "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" sees Samara Weaving reprise her role as Grace (Samara Weaving), now deeply traumatized after surviving a deadly game of Hide and Seek with the Le Domas family. After reuniting with her estranged sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton), the two are quickly pulled into another lethal game of cat and mouse with even more complicated rules. This time around, the ones pulling the strings are an elite cohort of families vying for control of a secret Satanic cult. Grace and Faith must set aside their differences and work together if they hope to make it out alive.

'No Place to Be Single' (Prime Video)

More in the mood for a breezy watch this weekend? In this Italian romantic comedy, which is based on Felicia Kingsley's best-selling novel of the same name, Matilde Gioli stars as Elisa, a single mother who manages a charming estate in a small Tuscan town while raising her teenage daughter. Her quiet life is shaken up when her childhood friend Michele (Cristiano Caccamo) shows up out of the blue. As the two reconnect, all that reminiscing sparks new romantic feelings. But the two butt heads when Michele and his brother unexpectedly become heirs to the estate, leaving the couple at odds over what its future should be.

Hulu is a great streaming service for building your next binge-watch. It has hit original shows, and it also features a range of shows from Disney-owned networks. Don't worry; I've put together a list of three new shows perfect for adding to your weekend watchlist. First up is "The Testaments," a sequel to "The Handmaid's Tale." It is already deep into its first season, with seven episodes ready to binge. Then there's the hit Korean romantic comedy "Perfect Crown," which has been dropping two new episodes every weekend since early April. Finally, there's "The Rookie." This ABC procedural is now one of the network's longest-running shows, and just wrapped up season 8. That's a lot of Nathan Fillion in a police uniform to binge.

'The Testaments'

Genre: Dystopian drama series

What's it about? Set years after "The Handmaid's Tale," "The Testaments" features "One Battle After Another" star Chase Infiniti as Agnes, a top student and dutiful child in the theocratic state of Gilead. Her life gets flipped on its head, though, when she's tasked with helping Canadian convert, Daisy (Lucy Halliday). As she gets Daisy accustomed to her new home, she comes to realize not everything is what it seems in Gilead.

Why you should watch it: "The Handmaid's Tale" was a massive hit for Hulu, and early reviews suggest they got the formula right again with this sequel. It currently has a 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

'Perfect Crown' season 1

Genre: Korean romantic comedy

What's it about? Sung Hui-ju (IU) is from a wealthy family, but she remains a commoner and one born out of wedlock at that. But she sees an opportunity when she meets Prince I-an (Byeon Woo-seok), who has legitimacy but nobody to share it with.

Why you should watch it: If you like K-dramas, then this one about a royal romance in an alternate history seems to have potential. Just definitely opt for the subtitles; the English dub in the trailer looks awful.

'The Rookie' season 8

Genre: Police procedural series

What's it about? "The Rookie" stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, a 45-year-old newly divorced man from Pennsylvania. He's looking for a new direction in life, and when he helps stop a local bank robbery, he decides to become a law enforcement officer. In season 1, he moved to Los Angeles because the LAPD is one of the few places that will let a 45-year-old become a rookie officer. Now, he's the one training rookies.

Why you should watch it: This show is a hit, with eight seasons under its belt and a ninth on the way. It shows no sign of stopping, even with show star Nathan Fillion now an integral part of the DCU. Catch up on the first eight seasons now before season 9 arrives in the fall.

Not only does it regularly add originals and classics to its library, but, because it's owned by Disney, it's the streaming home for new releases from several Disney-owned studios. This weekend, I have three movies recently added to Hulu that are a must-watch. There's "We Bury the Dead," a 2025 zombie flick that was a big hit with critics. There's also "Hallow Road," a little-known movie from last year that became a favorite for one of our staff. But my top pick is "Philadelphia," a Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington legal drama that is an absolute must-watch.

'We Bury the Dead' (2025)

Genre: Zombie horror drama movie

What's it about? Daisy Ridley stars as Ava, a physiotherapist who is suddenly drawn into action when an American superweapon detonates off the Tasmanian coast. It not only destroys a city, but it renders the remaining inhabitants of the island brain dead (or undead!), potentially including Ava's husband Mitch.

Why you need to watch it: This movie is dark, with twists and turns you won't see coming. It's earned praise from most critics, particularly for Ridley's performance as Ava. It doesn't reinvent the zombie horror movie, but that doesn't mean it isn't a must-watch.

'Hallow Road' (2025)

Genre: Psychological horror movie

What's it about? This psychological horror film stars Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys as Maddie, a paramedic, and her husband Frank. This married couple lives a normal life, until one night, when they decide to attempt to help their daughter cover up the evidence of a car accident that she caused.

Why you need to watch it: In his review of "Hallow Road," TG's Rory Mellon declared the movie a "masterful chiller." He even ranked it in his top 10 favorite movies of 2025 (and he saw more than 110 movies in theaters last year). It's only 80 minutes long, so there's no reason to skip this one now that it's streaming on Hulu.

'Philadelphia' (1993)

Genre: Legal drama

What's it about? Andy Beckett (Tom Hanks) is a younger gay man who has just been fired as a senior associate from a prestigious Philadelphia law firm because he has AIDS. In fact, he's clearly already dying from it. But he still wants justice, and to get it, he hires Joe Miller (Denzel Washington), who would not describe himself as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, to say the least.

Why you should watch it: I just watched this movie as part of my ongoing Denzel Watchathon, and it blew me away. It's an incredible portrayal of the AIDS crisis and the struggles of gay men in 1990s America, and it's the only movie to feature Hanks and Denzel together. I rarely recommend whodunit movies. Every once in a while, one like "Knives Out" impresses me enough to give the genre another try, but then so many turn out to be predictable bores where the culprit practically has "killer" tattooed across the forehead from the moment they step on screen. Still, I'll watch anything with Tina Fey in it, so when "A Haunting in Venice," Kenneth Branagh's third run as Agatha Christie's iconic detective Hercule Poirot, returned to Hulu at the top of the month, it caught my eye.

Its spooky vibes were what sealed the deal, as I'm a huge fan of horror movies. I wasn't disappointed. Branagh and his screenwriter, Michael Green, reimagine the cozy conventions of your typical detective story as a haunted-house thriller with scares that nearly made me jump out of my seat several times. Its central mystery takes a while to really get cooking, but once it does, I was glued to my seat. Branagh and Fey have great chemistry, the rest of the cast is equally stellar, and the Venice setting and creative cinematography are pushed to the fullest to craft an undeniable sense of dread and suspense throughout. It's definitely worth adding to your watchlist this week if you prefer mysteries with a flair for the dramatic and an unsettling atmosphere that keeps you on your toes.

What is 'A Haunting in Venice' about?

Rather than your run-of-the-mill mystery, "A Haunting in Venice" leans more supernatural horror that challenges the world's greatest detective to solve a crime that might just might be committed by a ghost. The movie wastes no time establishing the kind of singular individual Poirot is as he enjoys the post-retirement life in Venice, nowadays whipping out his magnifying glass to study his growing garden rather than finding clues.

An old friend, crime novelist Ariadne Oliver (Fey), pulls him back into the fray after she finds a spiritual medium (Michelle Yeoh) whose bag of tricks even she can't figure out. The pair attend a seance in a supposedly haunted orphanage that turns into a lockdown after one murder after another comes to light. Naturally, Poirot is dead-set on finding the culprit, but when he starts hearing voices and seeing strange things in the shadows, he starts suspecting that not even his brilliant mind can be trusted.

A horror-tinged whodunit with plenty of style

Set largely within a sprawling palazzo — realized through a mix of real Venetian sites, soundstages, and visual effects — the film is laced with hints of something sinister and supernatural afoot. Several scenes contain shots that make it feel like the characters are being watched, as if the spirits Poirot refuses to acknowledge are lurking just out of sight. You're never quite sure who you can trust, especially when the others locked in with our fearless detective begin to question his senses.

As the expected twists and grisly murders unfold, "A Haunting in Venice" uses inventive camerawork to make every shot visually intriguing. The opening's breathtaking shots of the Venetian skyline are traded for the cramped close-quarters of the city's canals and the gothic horror halls of the palazzo. I was also impressed by several artfully set-up transitions between scenes. One in particular that really blew me away was when Poirot is questioning a pair of siblings, and artfully pitting them against each other to find out what he wants to know.

As someone who wasn't a big fan of Branagh's other turns as Poirot in "Death on the Nile" and "Murder on the Orient Express," I didn't expect to enjoy "A Haunting in Venice" as much as I did. It feels like an angstier cousin of "Clue," with twists and turns even I didn't see coming. It's easily the best Agatha Christie adaptation I've seen in years.

This week’s top new movies slate has been confirmed, and there are fresh arrivals across several of the best streaming services, including Netflix, HBO Max and Hulu.

However, the biggest newcomers come in the premium streaming category. My pick of the week is “The Drama.” This dark comedy is one of my favorite movies of 2026 (so far). Just make sure you watch it before the big twist is spoiled. However, if you don’t want to cough up a purchase/rental fee, Hulu will debut “Send Help” from director Sam Raimi, while Netflix has a mystery drama that is based on a best-selling novel, and looks like a real tear-jerker.

Don’t waste time scrolling through streaming libraries this week. I’ve collected together the most noteworthy new movies arriving across platforms in the coming days below. Plus, don’t forget to check out our guide to the top new TV shows this week for some binge-watching and all the top Netflix new releases.

‘The Drama’ (PVOD)

Before watching “The Drama” in theaters, I was told it contains a “twist you’ll never see coming.” I like to consider myself pretty good at guessing reveals, but I wouldn't have predicted the wrinkle in this dark drama with a thousand guesses. Naturally, I won’t spoil it here, but I strongly encourage you to watch this movie before it gets ruined online. This movie is so much more enjoyable if you don’t know its biggest secret before watching.

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya play an engaged couple just weeks away from walking down the aisle. Their relationship seems pretty perfect, until something happens in the build-up to the big day that sends them spiralling, and tests their bond. This dark drama is stuffed with uncomfortable moments, unsettling dream sequences, and features perfect performances from Pattinson and Zendaya. It’s one of 2026’s best movies to date.

‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ (PVOD)

I’ve been wondering whether we needed a “Ready or Not” sequel since this follow-up to the 2019 original was announced, and even after watching the final result for myself, I’m still not totally sure. Its biggest problem is that it doesn’t shake up the formula, opting instead to rerun what worked previously. However, if you want an action-comedy with plenty of fake blood and a tone that favors humor over horror, you’ll probably have a good time with “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.”

Opening when the first movie left off, Grace (Samara Weaving) has survived her nightmare ordeal with the Le Domas family. Reunited with her estranged sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton), the siblings are thrown into a new cat-and-mouse game as they become the prey in another deadly spin on hide-and-seek. Hunted by a group of elite families, each vying to become the leader of a secret Satanic cult, Grace and Faith need to put their personal issues aside and pull together to survive the ordeal.

‘Send Help’ (Hulu)

Sam Raimi’s deliciously warped “Send Help” hits Hulu this week, and it’s a survival horror-thriller that is both savage and hugely entertaining. Best of all, it’s another showcase of Rachel McAdams, who is phenomenal in the leading role. Meanwhile, Dylan O’Brien offers strong support as the villain of the piece, a smarmy CEO that you’ll love to hate. Set on a desert island, “Send Help” is chaotic in the best way and will hook you from the start.

Linda Liddle (McAdams) is a hard worker, but lacks the ability to play the corporate schmoozing game. She’s long promised a promotion, which is then cruelly taken away by her new boss, the arrogant Bradley Preston (Dylan O’Brien). When the two are stranded on a tropical island after a plane crash, their dynamic is flipped. Linda thrives on the island, while Bradley does little but whine. With no recuse in sight, tensions rise.

‘Greenland 2: Migration’ (HBO Max)

“Greenland 2: Migration” was one of 2026’s first theatrical releases, and it’s now ready to join its predecessor on HBO Max. For those unaware of this franchise, it’s set in the wake of a devastating interstellar comet hitting Earth. The first movie was focused on surviving the end of the world, but this sequel explores what comes next. “Migration” didn’t enjoy the same strong critical reviews as its predecessor, but it’s popcorn entertainment. Plus, Gerard Butler is a great blockbuster lead who sells the shlocky script.

Set five years after the conclusion of the first “Greenland,” John Garrity (Butler) and his family have survived the planetary devastation in an underground bunker. However, even this haven isn’t safe forever. After an earthquake destroys the bunker, John and his family must venture to the ruined surface in search of a new place to call home in the remains of our civilization. As noted, the first “Greenland” is also on HBO Max, so the two make for a great action-thriller double bill this week.

‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ (Netflix)

The above picks all fall into the “dark” category in some way, and as much as I love dark thrillers, chilling horrors and intense survival movies, sometimes I’m craving a feel-good watch. Fortunately, Netflix is delivering that this week with “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” a feature adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s novel of the same name. Starring Sally Field and Lewis Pullman, it looks a little less bleak than the other movie picks on this list.

Field plays Tova, an elderly widower working at a local aquarium, who finds a much-needed dose of joy when she forms an unexpected bond with an octopus, and also develops a connection with a wayward young man, Cameron (Pullman), who has arrived in town in search of his father. Working together, they investigate a mystery that could change both their lives and restore their sense of wonder in a world that can beat you down.

I’m a huge fan of dark thrillers and horror movies. It’s rare for me to feel unnerved by a movie, but “Hallow Road” managed to work its way into my psyche and leave me shook. On my walk home from the theater, I was looking over my shoulder, convinced someone (or something) was following me. And, trust me, that only made me love it even more.

Frustratingly, this 2025 psychological horror-thriller came and went without much fanfare. Maybe it was due to its delayed U.S. release (it hit U.K. cinemas in May, but didn’t land stateside till the fall), and even when it finally hit premium streaming, it barely registered for most people. However, it’s just arrived on Hulu, and I’m here to plead its case to you.

“Hallow Road” ranked among my top 10 favorite movies of 2025 (and I saw more than 100 movies on the big screen last year), and you don’t just need to take my word for it; the movie scores an impressive 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. If you’re looking for a gripping, disturbing movie on Hulu this weekend, “Hallow Road” is the only correct choice. Here’s why I love it.

What is ‘Hallow Road’ about?

“Hallow Road” presents every parent’s worst nightmare. After a heated argument with their daughter, Alice (Megan McDonnell), earlier in the evening, Maddie (Rosamund Pike) and Frank (Matthew Rhys) are awoken in the middle of the night by a distressing phone call.

Through tears, Alice tells them she’s accidentally hit a pedestrian on a dark country road, and even worse, the married couple suspects their daughter wasn’t driving sober. The two leap into their car and race to the scene before anybody else can discover what’s happened.

But as they frantically drive down winding, pitch-black roads, the situation worsens. Hidden family secrets come to light, and Maddie and Frank realize something more sinister is afoot. The nightmare is just starting...

‘Hallow Road’ is a must-watch on Hulu

One of “Hallow Road’s” biggest strengths is its intimate setting. Practically the entire 80-minute movie takes place in the claustrophobic confines of a car interior. This brings you right into the thick of the drama and puts the focus squarely on the nightmare experience its two central characters are enduring. And this intimate approach is observed throughout the film.

Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys — who are both excellent, especially Pike — are the only two characters on screen for almost the entire runtime. They communicate with their daughter and other characters (no spoilers!) via a mobile phone. In fact, as viewers, we don’t even see the inciting accident. Far from being frustrating, it’s actually a masterstroke.

Director Babak Anvari and screenwriter William Gillies understand that the nightmares the audience can imagine are more terrifying than what can actually be depicted on screen. “Hallow Road” leans hard into the fear of the unknown and ramps up the suspense as its protagonists hear the situation spiralling over speaker phone, and can do nothing about it.

As mentioned, it runs an extraordinarily tight 80 minutes, ensuring its restricted setup isn’t stretched beyond breaking point, and because of this trim runtime, the tension is never eased. Within moments, things kick off, and there’s no let-up until the truly haunting finale. I won’t give the game away, but 12 months later, and I still can’t get the ending out of my head.

“Hallow Road” is a masterclass in building a palpable sense of dread, and even before its final shocking moments, you’ll know there is no way this dark story can have a happy ending. To bring some balance to all my praise, I can acknowledge the ambiguity of its narrative, and especially the finale might disappoint some viewers, but “Hallow Road” is really about the journey, and what a spooky and unsettling journey it takes you on.

Another week on the books means another weekend to catch up on our watchlists is here, but with so many great movies coming and going from the best streaming services, decision paralysis can rear its ugly ahead once more. That's why I'm rounding up the best movies that just landed on streaming so you don't waste your precious time with a dud.

For another family-friendly watch, check out Netflix's "Swapped" for an animal kingdom twist on "Freaky Friday." ‘Wuthering Heights’ (HBO Max)

One of this year's most divisive films, Emerald Fennell's adaptation of "Wuthering Heights," landed on HBO Max this week, bringing audiences to the windswept Yorkshire moors in an R-rated romantic period drama inspired by Emily Brontë’s classic novel. "Inspired by" is doing some heavy lifting here, as book purists are some of the movie's biggest naysayers for the unique and, at times, baffling direction Fennell takes this iconic story.

At the center is the volatile and all-consuming love between Catherine Earnshaw (Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi), two childhood friends thrust apart by social standing and personal ambition. After Heathcliff sets off to make his fortune, Catherine chooses to marry someone else, setting off a chain of betrayal and heartbreak that echoes throughout their lives.

‘Hoppers’ (PVOD)

Pixar's been overdue for a hit after last year's "Elio" marked the studio's worst box office opening ever, and "Hoppers" is just the ticket. After making over $360 million at the box office, Daniel Chong's zany body-swapping caper just landed on video-on-demand platforms so you can catch it from the comfort of your couch. In our "Hoppers" review, Malcolm McMillan called it "delightful" and "basically 'Avatar' but better." Given its impressive 94% approval ratings from critics and moviegoers alike on Rotten Tomatoes, he's definitely not alone in that praise.

The story follows a teenage girl named Mabel (voiced by Piper Curda), who has a special connection to nature and gets a chance to transfer her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver to live and communicate with animals. With a genuinely funny cast and a meaningful message about conservation and environmental care, it’s an excellent choice for a family movie night this weekend. "Hoppers" also features standout voice performances from Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, and Dave Franco.

'Swapped' (Netflix)

I know what you're thinking: Is this just a "Hoppers" rip-off? But trust me, "Swapped" takes the body-swapping shenanigans in a completely different direction. It's more "Freaky Friday" than "Avatar" with plenty of charm all its own. Plus it features Michael B. Jordan in his first post-Oscar role.

At the center of the story are two animals who could not be more different: an otter-like creature Ollie (Jordan) who's been outcast from his family and a bird of prey who sits at the top of the food chain Ivy (Juno Temple). The two find themselves swapped into each other’s bodies after a strange encounter with magical flora. Thrust into unfamiliar roles, they form an uneasy partnership that soon grows into something more. Together they work to keep their fragile ecosystem from collapsing and, in the process, grow to reconsider everything they believed about one another.

‘Hallow Road’ (Hulu)

You don't need an overly complicated set-up to make a great movie. "Hallow Road" proves as much, with director Babak Anvari and screenwriter William Gillies pushing a simple premise to horrifying ends. Matthew Rhys and Rosamund Pike star as parents jolted awake by a late-night call from their panicked daughter telling them she's responsible for a potentially fatal car accident.

The two race toward the crash site, desperate to get there before anyone else discovers what happened. As they speed along dark, winding country roads, the tension only gets thicker as long-buried family secrets begin to surface and an already harrowing situation takes an even more ominous turn, hinting at forces beyond their control.

'Jennifer's Body' (Netflix)

"Jennifer's Body" was panned by critics when it first debuted in 2009, but it's since developed a cult following that I'm hoping will only multiply now that it's on Netflix. "Yellowjackets" executive producer Karyn Kusama and "Juno" writer Diablo Cody helm this underrated feminist horror comedy that stars Megan Fox as the titular Jennifer, a high school cheerleader who undergoes a terrifying and bloody transformation.

When she starts acting strangely out of the blue, her wallflower best friend Anita (Amanda Seyfried) gets concerned and demands answers. She's horrified to learn that Jennifer's been possessed and now enjoys feasting on emo boys, and I mean that in the literal sense. It's up to Anita to put a stop to Jennifer's rampage, and then hunt down the Satan-worshipping rock band responsible for her friend's horrible curse to begin with.

This Korean film from Park Chan-wook is unhinged in the best possible way, and you can stream it right now. On May 1, you'll be able to watch "Philadelphia," and trust me when I say this Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington drama is a must-watch. Then, on May 2, Hulu is adding "Hallow Road," a little-known movie from last year that became a favorite for one of our staff.

'No Other Choice' (2025)

Genre: Korean black comedy thriller

What's it about? Man-su (Lee Byung-hun) has worked to build the perfect life. But when his papermaking company is sold to Americans, he's suddenly out of work. After months of unemployment, he concludes he has no other choice but to kill more talented candidates than him to ensure his next job interview will be his last.

Why you need to watch it: This movie is so absurd and unhinged, and I absolutely loved it. Some scenes are simply brilliant. There's definitely a darkness to this story, but it's so comical in its presentation that it allows you to detact from the more depressing themes.

'Philadelphia' (1993)

Genre: Legal drama

What's it about? Andy Beckett (Tom Hanks) is a younger gay man who has just been fired as a senior associate from a prestigious Philadelphia law firm because he has AIDS. In fact, he's clearly already dying from it. But he still wants justice, and to get it, he hires Joe Miller (Denzel Washington), who would not describe himself as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, to say the least.

Why you should watch it: I just watched this movie as part of my ongoing Denzel Watchathon, and it blew me away. It's an incredible portrayal of the AIDS crisis and the struggles of gay men in 1990s America, and it's the only movie to feature Hanks and Denzel together. 'Hallow Road' (2025)

Genre: Psychological horror

What's it about? This psychological horror film stars Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys as Maddie, a paramedic, and her husband Frank. This married couple lives a normal life, until one night, when they decide to attempt to help their daughter cover up the evidence of a car accident that she caused.

Why you need to watch it: In his review of "Hallow Road," TG's Rory Mellon declared the movie a "masterful chiller." He even ranked it in his top 10 favorite movies of 2025 (and he saw more than 110 movies in theaters last year). It's only 80 minutes long, so there's no reason to skip this one once it's streaming on Hulu.

Hulu is a great streaming service for building your next binge-watch. It has hit original shows, and it also features a range of shows from Disney-owned networks. That means shows from FX, ABC, 20th Television (formerly owned by Fox) and more, all on one streamer. That's something not every streaming service can replicate.

So much to watch can be overwhelming, though. Especially when deciding which show to start binging first. Don't worry; I've put together a list of three new shows perfect for adding to your weekend watchlist.

First up is "The Boss," or as it's known in its native Argentina, "El Encargado." It's centered around Eliseo (Guillermo Francella), a superintendent at a high-class apartment building in Belgrano, Buenos Aires, who will do anything to keep his job. Then there's the hit Korean romantic comedy "Perfect Crown," which has two new episodes coming this weekend. Finally, "The Testaments," a sequel to "The Handmaid's Tale," is deep into its first season, with six episodes ready to binge.

'The Boss' ('El Encargado') season 4

Genre: Argentine comedy-drama series

What's it about? Guillermo Francella portrays Eliseo, the superintendent of an upscale building in Buenos Aires. While on the surface he appears calm and ready, Eliseo thinks of himself as an omnipotent figure in the community, and meddles in the affairs of residents as he sees fit. The only thing that matters is protecting his job.

Why you should watch it: Originally part of Star+, this Disney show is now officially Hulu-branded with three seasons already under its belt. Start streaming them on May 1, and then check out the premiere of season 4 once you're caught up.

'Perfect Crown' season 1

Genre: Korean romantic comedy

What's it about? Sung Hui-ju (IU) is from a wealthy family, but she remains a commoner and one born out of wedlock at that. But she sees an opportunity when she meets Prince I-an (Byeon Woo-seok), who has legitimacy but nobody to share it with.

Why you should watch it: If you like K-dramas, then this one about a royal romance in an alternate history seems to have potential. Just definitely opt for the subtitles; the English dub in the trailer looks awful.

Stream the first six episodes of "Perfect Crown" season 1 on Hulu now. Stream episode 7 tomorrow (May 1) and episode 8 on May 2.

'The Testaments'

Genre: Dystopian drama series

What's it about? Set years after "The Handmaid's Tale," "The Testaments" features "One Battle After Another" star Chase Infiniti as Agnes, a top student and dutiful child in the theocratic state of Gilead. Her life gets flipped on its head, though, when she's tasked with helping Canadian convert, Daisy (Lucy Halliday). As she gets Daisy accustomed to her new home, she comes to realize not everything is what it seems in Gilead.

Why you should watch it: "The Handmaid's Tale" was a massive hit for Hulu, and early reviews suggest they got the formula right again with this sequel. It currently has a 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

This week’s selection of new movies across the best streaming services has been set, and it's a pretty solid slate of new releases. There's plenty to add to your watchlist over the next few days across multiple platforms.

My personal top pick of the week is “Hallow Road” on Hulu. This dark thriller was so effective that I was tempted to sleep with a nightlight on for a few days after watching. Meanwhile, fans of body-swapping comedies are spoilt for choice, with both Pixar’s “Hoppers” and Netflix’s “Swapped” streaming this week. Oh, and the divisive "Wuthering Heights” comes to HBO Max.

‘Hoppers’ (PVOD)

Pixar’s latest animated adventure sticks pretty closely to the Disney-owned studio’s well-established script, but it’s enjoyable nevertheless. It also boasts some of Pixar’s highest-quality animation to date, with a cast of furry characters who seem intentionally designed to sell plush toys (naturally, plushes are available on Amazon). As you would expect from Pixar, “Hoppers” is a great pick if you're planning a family movie night this week.

Mabel Tanaka (Pipe Curda) is a strong-willed, environmentally conscious student, battling to keep a nearby forest glade protected after the town’s mayor (Jon Hamm) announces a plan to convert the green space into a highway. When she learns local scientists have found a way for human consciousness to “hop” into the body of a robotic animal, she transfers her mind into a beaver and leads an animal revolution to save the glade.

‘Exit 8’ (PVOD)

I might be a highly opinionated film fan, but I’m able to put my personal feelings aside when it's clear I'm in the minority. Take “Exit 8,” this new psychological horror-thriller is a critical darling, scoring 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and most viewers agree, also rating it highly at 87% on the review aggregate site. So, while I personally found it quite unsatisfying in theaters, there are clearly plenty of people out there who disagree. So, I’d be remiss to exclude it here just because of my less-than-favorable opinion.

Based on the indie video game of the same name, “Exit 8” takes the foundation of its source material — being trapped in a looping series of subway tunnels — and expands on it, giving a video game without a story a full-fleshed narrative and proper characters. The movie follows a nameless protagonist (Kazunari Ninomiya) who becomes stuck in a looping nightmare and must identify a series of anomalies to escape purgatory.

‘Swapped’ (Netflix)

If “Hoppers” wasn’t enough animal-themed body-swapping hijinks for you in a single week, then Netflix has the perfect movie for a double-feature: “Swapped.” Produced in collaboration with Skydance Animation, this Netflix original boasts a solid voice cast including recent Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan, “Ted Lasso” star Juno Temple, and “30 Rock’s” own Tracy Morgan. I’m not convinced that it’ll hit the same emotional highs as “Hoppers’”, but it could be just the colorful distraction you need to keep little ones happy.

Set in a lush valley, it centers on two sworn enemies: a small woodland mammal named Ollie (B. Jordan) and a majestic bird named Ivy (Temple). After encountering a magical planet, these two creatures swap bodies and must learn to see things from a very different perspective. What follows is described as “the adventure of a lifetime” as they find some common ground, attempt to help their woodland friends, and try to switch back.

‘Wuthering Heights’ (HBO Max)

Emerald Fennell’s spin on Emily Brontë’s legendary “Wuthering Heights” is one of the more controversial movies of 2026 so far. Accused in some corners of turning the tragic novel into an imitation of “50 Shades of Grey,” it’s not a movie for book purists. However, it does boast stunning, highly atmospheric cinematography and a pair of impossibly attractive leads in A-listers Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. It might just get you swooning.

Set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, Cathy (Robbie) and Heathcliff (Elordi) meet as children and become inseparable companions. Their relationship flips between tender and toxic, and as they reach adulthood, they might just be torn apart once and for all. Opting for a style-over-substance approach, Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” is all heartache all of the time. However, in its melodramatic effort to capture intense yearning, much of the story’s nuance and impact is stripped away.

‘Hallow Road’ (Hulu)

“Hallow Road” ranked in my top 10 favorite movies of 2025, and considering I saw more than 110 movies on the big screen last year, that speaks to just how much this psychological thriller had me on edge. It’s a truly chilling trip, and one of those movies that will spooked but unable to look away. If you can handle the intensity, “Hallow Road” is a must-watch thrill ride.

Starring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys, “Hallow Road” is eerie and unsettling. It centers on a husband and wife driving along dark country roads to find their daughter after she’s involved in a car accident. Set almost entirely within the confines of a claustrophobic car, the twisting narrative is terrifying, and the tension is cranked up to anxiety-inducing levels. It all comes to a head in a chilling finale that will stay with you.

'Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair'

Genre: Sitcom miniseries

What's it about? 20 years after the events of "Malcolm in the Middle," Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) is doing great. He's started a family, has a daughter, Leah (Keely Karsten) and a wonderful girlfriend, Tristan (Kiana Madeira). But the life he's so carefully crafted could come crashing down when his family makes him come back for his parents' (Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek) 40th anniversary party.

Why you should watch it: I could not stop laughing while watching the trailer for this, and Cranston and Kaczmarek are always a delight together. At just four episodes, "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair" is an easy binge-watch this weekend.

'Perfect Crown' season 1

Genre: Korean romantic comedy

What's it about? Sung Hui-ju (IU) is from a wealthy family, but she remains a commoner and one born out of wedlock at that. But she sees an opportunity when she meets Prince I-an (Byeon Woo-seok), who has legitimacy but nobody to share it with.

Why you should watch it: If you like K-dramas, then this one about a royal romance in an alternate history seems to have potential. Just definitely opt for the subtitles; the English dub in the trailer looks awful.

'The Testaments'

Genre: Dystopian drama series

What's it about? Set years after "The Handmaid's Tale," "The Testaments" features "One Battle After Another" star Chase Infiniti as Agnes, a top student and dutiful child in the theocratic state of Gilead. Her life gets flipped on its head, though, when she's tasked with helping Canadian convert, Daisy (Lucy Halliday). As she gets Daisy accustomed to her new home, she comes to realize not everything is what it seems in Gilead.

Why you should watch it: "The Handmaid's Tale" was a massive hit for Hulu, and early reviews suggest they got the formula right again with this sequel. It currently has a 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hulu is a great streaming service for streaming new movies. Not only does it regularly add originals and classics to its library, but, because it's owned by Disney, it's the streaming home for new releases from several Disney-owned studios. This weekend, I have three movies recently added to Hulu that are a must-watch, including one of my favorite movies of 2025: "No Other Choice." This Korean film from Park Chan-wook is unhinged in the best possible way, and you need to watch it. Once you're done, horror fans will want to check out "Good Boy," a supernatural horror movie from last year that stars a dog as the protagonist. After that, keep the horror vibes going with "Shelby Oaks," another supernatural horror movie from last year, which has already developed a cult following.

'No Other Choice' (2025)

Genre: Korean black comedy thriller

What's it about? Man-su (Lee Byung-hun) has worked to build the perfect life. But when his papermaking company is sold to Americans, he's suddenly out of work. After months of unemployment, he concludes he has no other choice but to kill more talented candidates than him to ensure his next job interview will be his last.

Why you need to watch it: This movie is so absurd and unhinged, and I absolutely loved it. Some scenes are simply brilliant. There's definitely a darkness to this story, but it's so comical in its presentation that it allows you to detact from the more depressing themes.

'Good Boy' (2025)

Genre: Supernatural horror

What's it about? "Good Boy" stars Indy as he attempts to rescue Todd (Shane Jensen), a young man with a chronic lung disease. Todd is being plagued by a supernatural presence lurking in his late grandfather's rural home, and only Indy can save him. Oh, did I mention that Indy is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever?

Why you should watch it: How many times do you get to watch a live-action film where the protagonist is a dog, let alone a horror movie? For the novelty alone, this movie is worth checking out.

'Shelby Oaks' (2025)

Genre: Supernatural horror mystery

What's it about? A group of YouTubers known as the Paranormal Paranoids goes to investigate the ghost town of Shelby Oaks, but none come out alive. Only Riley (Sarah Durn) might still be alive, and years later, her sister Mia (Camillele Sullivan) might finally have a way to find her.

Why you should watch it: This movie is inarguably a supernatural horror flick, so if that's not your vibe, you probably won't have a good time. But if you like horror that deals with demonic possession and hellhounds, "Shelby Oaks" is worth a watch this weekend.

The satirical, often surrealist sitcom only ran for two seasons on the streaming platform and, having premiered in September 2020, got kind of forgotten in the intensity of the COVID era. But it's a still-timely and smartly funny watch that definitely deserves a look if you missed out on it the first time around. Need more convincing? Here's why you should check out "Woke" on Hulu.

What is 'Woke' about?

Morris plays Keef Knight, a Black-American cartoonist best-known for the lighthearted work "Toast & Butter," whose life is upended after a distressing encounter with police brutality. Following that traumatic racial profiling, his PTSD manifests in a surprising and seriously funny way: Ordinary, inanimate objects begin talking to him (voiced by Cedric the Entertainer) and help him recognize the daily microaggressions and societal injustices he's been turning a blind eye to.

With this newfound awareness, Keef must figure out how to maintain his personal relationships and navigate professional successes all as a "woke" Black man in America.

Along with Morris, the half-hour comedy also features Woke Blake Anderson, T. Murph, Sasheer Zamata, Rose McIver, Aimee Garcia and JB Smoove. Knight himself developed the show alongside Marshall Todd.

Why should you watch 'Woke' on Hulu?

Unlike more traditional streaming sitcoms, "Woke" was a show that wasn't afraid to color outside the lines, entertainingly blending absurd surrealism with social commentary and live-action work with animated elements to tell a story that is all too relevant these days. And through it all, Morris deftly transitions between the comedy's absurd irreverence and its darker, more emotional subject matter.

Given that balance between genres and mediums, the Hulu comedy admittedly did need a moment to find its footing. Its first season got a satisfactory 74% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critical consensus commenting, "Though 'Woke's' first season doesn't quite know what it wants to say about racism in America, its solid ensemble — led by a well-cast Lamorne Morris — and some surreal silliness make it a messy conversation worth watching." However, by the second season, it really found its rhythm, with surprising twists and great character growth, and earned an excellent 93% audience rating.

Sadly, "Woke" was cancelled after two seasons, but thankfully, you can always revisit the smart-but-silly sitcom on Hulu.

‘Tow’ (PVOD)

Rose Byrne earned herself an Oscar nomination with last year’s “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” and her follow-up to that acclaimed drama is another cinematic vehicle that showcases Byrne’s serious talent, and explores a complicated character, Amanda Ogle. But perhaps most impressively about “Tow” is the supporting cast around Byrne, which includes Dominic Sessa, Demi Lovato, Ariana DeBose and Octavia Spencer. According to the critics, Byrne delivers another winning turn in this based-on-a-true-story drama.

Amanda Ogle is a homeless woman living in Seattle. Her car is the only thing keeping her life together, so when a tow company impounds the vehicle, and Amanda is given a $21,634 bill, she has no choice but to fight to reclaim ownership. Thrown into a legal battle against a system that doesn’t care about the little guy, “Tow” starts as a comedy about a woman trying to get her car back, but becomes an important story about refusing to accept unfair systems.

‘Apex’ (Netflix)

Netflix’s major movie this week is “Apex,” and I’m particularly confident that it’s going to rocket straight to the top of the streaming service’s top 10 most-watched chart. It’s a survival thriller starring Charlize Theron, Taron Egerton and Eric Bana, which are all the ingredients needed for a Netflix No. 1. Does that guarantee its quality? Not necessarily, but I’m cautiously optimistic that “Apex” will be a new Netflix original movie worth watching this week.

Theron plays Sasha, a grieving woman and rock climbing enthusiast, who looks for solace in the wilderness only to become locked in a deadly game of cat and mouse against a sadistic serial killer (Egerton). Hunted by a hunter, it’s up to Sasha to outsmart this predator. “Apex” is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, who certainly knows their way around a gripping thriller, having also helmed movies such as “Contraband,” “Everest,” and “2 Guns.”

‘Marty Supreme’ (HBO Max)

I rank “Marty Supreme” as my favorite movie of 2025, and considering I saw more than 110 movies in theaters last year, that is no small compliment. It’s a phenomenal sports drama, expertly directed by Josh Safdie. The stakes keep being raised across its 150-minute runtime (Which totally flies by), and just when you think it’s reached a peak, it shifts up another gear. Plus, you’ve got Timothée Chalamet giving one of his best-ever performances.

“Marty Supreme” centers on the titular Marty Mauser, a table tennis player with dreams of becoming the world’s best and most marketable player. He faces numerous hurdles as he battles to achieve greatness, many self-inflicted. But even when the road gets rocky, his faith in his destiny never wavers for a moment. Also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary and Tyler Okonma, “Marty Supreme” is a fast-paced and energetic drama.

‘No Other Choice’ (Hulu)

Director Park Chan-wook delivers a biting, sharp comedy thriller that really deserved more love. I’m still confused as to how it didn’t scoop a single Oscar nomination. At the very least, it should have been included in the Best International Feature Film field. Considering its strong critical scores, it would maybe be inaccurate to label it “underrated,” but I certainly think it qualifies as one of 2025’s most “overlooked” movies. Fortunately, it’s heading to Hulu this week, which I’m hoping will ensure a whole bunch more people watch this great thriller.

Yoo Man-su (Lee Byung-hun, who you might recognize from Netflix’s “Squid Game”) is a veteran employee at a papermaking company in South Korea. When new American owners take over the firm, Man-su is cruelly laid off. Facing a dehumanizing job market, where workers compete with each other for the few jobs available, Man-Su resorts to an extreme solution: Murder his competition to ensure that he can land a job and maintain his lifestyle.

‘Dolly’ (Shudder)

Shudder is the streaming service for horror fanatics, and this week the platform is serving up a new slasher, “Dolly.” This low-budget chiller has enjoyed respectable reviews, currently scoring 63% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s been praised for its “relentless set pieces and gleefully excessive gore." While it doesn’t attempt to reinvent the slasher genre, it looks like it might serve up enough sadistic pleasures to keep horror fans entertained across its very trim 85-minute runtime.

Macy (Fabianne Therese) and her boyfriend Chase (Sean William Scott) are hiking in the remote woods when they find themselves the latest victims of a brutal killer known only as “Dolly.” Macy is captured and awakens in a nursery crib, forced to partake in a warped form of role-play with this porcelain-mask-wearing monster. If you like your horror movies particularly bloody, then “Dolly” offers plenty of wince-inducing moments of shock and gore.

What's it about? "Scrubs" is officially back, and so are J.D. (Zach Braff) and Turk (Donald Faison). But this time, they are running Sacred Heart rather than running from the wrath of Dr. Cox. If you loved the original show, many familiar faces appear at least once, and episodes are littered with the same hijinks that made the original so beloved.

Why you should watch it: TG's own Martin Shore declared the reboot "exactly what I wanted it to be." I'll even admit that it's growing on me. It's often felt like much of the same, for better and worse, but the penultimate episode of the season was the first time I felt it made a case for its existence.

First, there's "Shelby Oaks," a horror movie from last year that's already developed a cult following. Then, there's "Sirāt," an Oscar-nominated Spanish-language film centered around a father and son searching for a missing family member among raves in the Moroccan desert. Finally, there's "Pizza Movie," which features "Stranger Things" star Gaten Matarazzo and "The Goldbergs" star Sean Giambrone as roommates who make a classic college mistake: getting way too high.

'Shelby Oaks' (2025)

Genre: Supernatural horror mystery

What's it about? A group of YouTubers known as the Paranormal Paranoids goes to investigate the ghost town of Shelby Oaks, but none come out alive. Only Riley (Sarah Durn) might still be alive, and years later, her sister Mia (Camillele Sullivan) might finally have a way to find her.

Why you should watch it: This movie is definitively a supernatural horror flick, so if that's not your vibe, you probably won't have a good time. But if you like horror that deals with demonic possession and hellhounds, "Shelby Oaks" is worth a watch this weekend.

'Sirāt' (2025)

Genre: Spanish drama

What's it about? Luis (Sergi López) and his son, Esteban (Bruno Núñez Arjona), are searching for Mar, Luis' daughter and Esteban's sister. They arrive at a rave in the southern Moroccan deserts, but don't find her there. So now, they must push deeper into the desert in search of another rave she might have gone to.

Why you need to watch it: This movie has a thrilling drama at the center, but it's all about the sound in this story of ravehopping. If you want a cinematic experience different from what's currently out in theaters, "Sirāt" is definitely it.

'Pizza Movie' (2026)

Genre: Stoner comedy

What's it about? Jack (Gaten Matarazzo) and Montgomery (Sean Giambrone) are college roommates. One day, they do what college roommates do: they decide to get high. But they took the wrong drug. Now, they're tripping on "M.I.N.T.S.," and the only cure is to eat pizza delivered to them by drone.

Why you should watch it: Like many stoner comedies, the premise of "Pizza Movie" may seem simple and sophomoric. But that doesn't mean you won't have a blast with it. If you liked "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" or "Pineapple Express," you'll probably have a good time with this movie.

Considering it’s my job to check through a streaming service’s top 10 and highlight picks worth watching, it’s also part of my role to steer subscribers away from titles that aren’t worth their time. Netflix’s charts can be a tricky wall to climb, with “The Roommate” being a prime example: a compelling premise, a nostalgic 2000s poster, and the appeal of a psychological thriller (a genre audiences tend to gravitate toward). But this movie is definitely one to skip.

“The Roommate” is about a college freshman, Sara (Minka Kelly), who moves into a dorm and is paired with Rebecca (Leighton Meester), her seemingly friendly roommate. As Sara begins building her own social life, Rebecca becomes increasingly possessive and unstable, turning their relationship into a dangerous situation. I watched this 10 years ago at a sleepover and still remember my friends and I being appalled. You only need to look at its shocking 3% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

I’ll take the frustration off your hands. I go through the charts so you don’t have to, pointing out the weaker picks, flagging them, and guiding you toward much better options. There’s actually a dark thriller on Hulu you should stream instead: “The Rental.” This movie very much leans into its psychological horror, and so here’s why you need to add this one to your watchlist this weekend.

‘The Rental’ is a gripping thriller rooted in believable drama

When it comes to intense psychological thrillers, “The Rental” is one that stands out. While it doesn’t lean into obsession or college-set teen revenge drama, it’s still a deeply unsettling story about mistrust and anxiety. It follows two couples — Charlie (Dan Stevens) and Michelle (Alison Brie), and Josh (Jeremy Allen White) and Mina (Sheila Vand) — who rent a remote Oregon Coast house for a weekend getaway. Their trip turns unsettling when they discover a hidden camera that may have caught something nobody was supposed to see.

“The Rental” feels like two distinct films combined into one. The first half focuses on a character-led drama exploring the complicated, messy relationships between four friends, none of whom are exactly role models for healthy behavior. The second half, though, shifts gears entirely into a dark thriller where things spiral out of control. And you definitely won't expect the third act.

The film’s biggest achievement is its constant sense of paranoia, with the final scenes offering some resolution but leaving plenty of tension lingering beforehand. It also marks a strong directorial debut for Dave Franco, who keeps the pacing sharp in under 90 minutes and pairs the dark story with a sleek, polished visual style. Safe to say this isn’t the thriller for you if you’re hoping for anything uplifting by the end. It can get seriously bleak.

Despite “The Roommate” sitting in Netflix’s top 10 right now, its bland characters and absence of real chills keep it from being even enjoyably bad. It’s just a movie you should avoid at all costs if you’re looking for a truly gripping thriller. That’s why “The Rental” on Hulu should be on your watchlist instead, since it features some compelling performances and a nerve-wracking psychological setup. If you want a thriller that will shock you, but still have real impact, this is the one to stream next.

If you had told me twenty years ago that the sequel to my favourite film ever would be officially making its runway debut, I would have cried. And if you told me that one of the best streaming services, Disney+, would be airing its world premiere, I probably would have cried harder.

That's right — the impeccably styled, yet equally savage 2006 comedy, "The Devil Wears Prada", has joined the reboot gang with a long-awaited sequel hitting theaters on April 30. However, ten days earlier, on April 20, the stars of the franchise will hit the red carpet for the world premiere at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Fortunately for those of us without an exclusive invite to the star-studded event, Disney+ is delivering fans a front-row seat in a special livestream of the premiere, starting at 5:30pm EST / 10:30pm GMT / April 21 7:30am AEST. And if you can't stream it live, a full replay will be available following the event.

This fun live experience is sure to delight longtime fans of the original film, and will feature celebrity arrivals, cast interviews, special surprises and of course, jaw-dropping fashion moments. The film's talented cast and filmmakers will be in attendance, including the queen herself, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, and Caleb Hearon.

The only catch? You'll need a Disney+ subscription to catch every runway-ready detail.

What next for Runway magazine?

Unless you have a photographic memory of every iconic moment that happens in "The Devil Wears Prada", here's a quick refresher. The beloved 2006 film follows Andy (Anne Hathaway), an aspiring journalist hired as a personal assistant for the infamous Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine.

Andy doesn't quite fit in with the Runway clique but ends up taking it (and her job) by storm. Without divulging too many plot points, by the end of the film, Andy is hired by a newspaper as a journalist, ending her employment with Miranda. And unbeknownst to Andy, Miranda tells Andy's new boss that he'd be an idiot not to hire her.

As for what we know about the new sequel, and from the looks of the trailer, it's sure to be a riot. As per the logline, Andy returns to Runway as Miranda navigates a new media landscape and Runway's position within it. They reconnect with another former assistant, Emily (Emily Blunt), who is now the head of a luxury brand that possesses funding which could ensure Runway's survival.

In case you need me between now and April 30, I'll be busy rewatching the original film at least 50 times in the next two weeks. And in the famous words of Miranda Priestly, "That's all."

Sure, these days, it feels like romantic movies are relegated to the Valentine's season, but we love a good rom-com all year round. 'Dan in Real Life'

From "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" to "Crazy, Stupid, Love," Steve Carell's got some veritable hits in the old rom-com genre, but one of his best is the lesser-known love-triangle comedy "Dan in Real Life." The 2007 Peter Hedges-directed flick finds "The Office" alum playing single-dad-of-three Dan Burns, whose professional expertise as a relationship advice columnist hasn't exactly translated to personal success in the love department.

Things get even more romantically complicated for Dan when he has a seemingly simple meet-cute with the woman of his dreams Marie (played by Juliette Binoche), only to later discover that she's actually the new girlfriend of his younger brother (Dane Cook) and he'll be forced to spend an entire weekend under the same roof as the couple during the Burns' annual family gathering in Rhode Island. Romantic hijinks understandably ensue!

'Rye Lane'

We have a soft spot for romance movies that mostly have two characters simply walking around, talking and, yes, falling for each other ("Lost in Translation," the "Before" trilogy, etc.), and "Rye Lane" is one of the loveliest recent additions to that grand tradition.

Directed by Raine Allen-Miller in her feature directorial debut, the 2023 rom-com centers on Yas (Vivian Oparah) and Dom (David Jonsson), two twentysomething Brits both reeling from recent break-ups, who have a chance encounter and connect over the course of an eventful day in South London. Boosted by a witty script, charming leads and believable chemistry throughout, the 82 minutes you spend with Yas and Dom go breezily by, a heartwarming and human connection that you can't help but root for.

'No Hard Feelings'

At the time of its release in 2023, it was something of a surprise for Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence — ye of auteur-driven dramas and box-office action franchises — to take on a big-budget romantic comedy. But "No Hard Feelings" — directed by Gene Stupnitsky ("Good Boys") from a screenplay he co-wrote with John Phillips — was a fresh and funny take on the crowd-pleasing genre, with a good deal of relatable feelings to balance out all of its raunch.

Lawrence stars as 32-year-old Maddie Barker, an Uber driver and bartender in Montauk, New York. With her car repossessed and bankruptcy in view, Maddie desperately answers the Craigslist posting of rich couple Laird and Alison Becker (Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti), who want to hire her to date their awkward and romantically inexperienced 19-year-old son Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) before he heads off to Princeton in the fall. Maddie quickly gets to work to form a relationship with the young lad, but one that ends up unexpectedly real.

This week’s crop of new movies across the best streaming services has plenty of noteworthy arrivals. Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max and Hulu are offering fresh films for subscribers to enjoy in the coming days. There’s also plenty of variety with comedy, action and romance.

Netflix will debut a teen comedy this week, “Roommates,” which sees two college freshmen go from friends to enemies. Meanwhile, Prime Video has a ridiculous-looking soccer-themed adventure that arrives just ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Horror fans should check out “Shelby Oaks” on Hulu, and action obsessives have “Dust Bunny” on HBO Max.

There’s plenty to add to your watchlist this week, and to save you time scrolling through the latest options, I’ve done the legwork for you, compiling the five most noteworthy new movies you can stream in the coming days. Also, see our guide to the top new TV shows this week.

‘Reminders of Him’ (PVOD)

Fresh off the success of “It Ends With Us” and "Regretting You” comes “Reminders of Him,” the latest big-screen adaptation of a best-selling Colleen Hoover novel. Fans will know exactly what to expect here with this romantic drama offering all the hallmarks of a Hoover adaptation, including countless longing stares, a storyline that goes heavy on the melodrama, and plenty of corny dialogue. But these movies (and books) are popular for a reason, and “Reminders of Him” smartly plays to its intended audience without trying to reinvent the wheel.

Kenna (Maika Monroe) is released from prison on parole, six years after a car accident that resulted in the death of her boyfriend, Scotty (Rudy Pankow). Trying to get her life back on track, she is desperate to be reunited with her young daughter, who was born shortly after her incarceration and then taken away to live with Scotty’s parents. However, she faces resistance at every turn, but finds surprising solace in Scotty’s best friend, Ledger (Tyriq Withers).

‘Balls Up’ (Prime Video)

The World Cup 2026 is just two months away, and soccer fans looking to get into the spirit of the world’s most-watched sporting event are being served up a new Prime Video original movie that’s all about the beautiful game (well, sort of). This raunchy action-comedy comes from director Peter Farrelly, who is no stranger to the outrageous comedy genre and also helmed 2018’s “Green Book,” which won Best Picture at the Oscars. Though I think it’s safe to say that “Balls Up” isn’t going to be a major awards player. It looks like a very silly watch.

Marketing executives Brad (Mark Wahlberg) and Elijah (Paul Walter Hauser) are riding high after successfully pitching a full-coverage condom sponsorship to the World Cup executive team (Yes, this is the actual setup for this Prime Video movie). After a drunken night celebrating their success in Brazil, they accidentally spark a global scandal and have to outrun angry fans, criminal parties, and power-hungry officials to save their careers and make it back to America.

‘Dust Bunny’ (HBO Max)

“Dust Bunny” is an action-thriller with fantasy elements and a strong cast, including Mads Mikkelsen, David Dastmalchian and Sigourney Weaver. This movie was released in theaters last December and enjoyed a solid critical reception, currently holding an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s now heading to HBO Max and could be a great pick this week for viewers craving some action with a unique twist.

Aurora (Sophie Sloan) is a young girl living in New York City, terrified of the monster living under her bed. Her parents attempt to convince her that the monster is just a figment of her youthful imagination, but when the monster attacks, Aurora seeks the help of the mysterious neighbor in 5B (Mikkelsen), a contract killer. However, 5B believes that the “monster” that “ate” Aurora’s family is actually a group of assassins who mistook her parents for 5B himself.

‘Roommates ‘ (Netflix)

Netflix is debuting its latest original movie this week in the form of “Roommates.” This teen comedy could be painfully relatable to anybody with a few awkward college stories in their locker (trust me, I’ve got plenty). It stars young talents, Sadie Sandler and Chloe East, with some more experienced performers in the wings, including Sarah Sherman, Natasha Lyonne and Nick Kroll. I’m sure it’ll be a critical hit, but I’m confident it’ll land in the Netflix top 10 shortly after its April 17 debut.

Devon (Sandler) is a naive college freshman who asks the ultra-cool and confident Celeste (East) to be her roommate. This initially spawns a sweet friendship, but soon spirals into a passive-aggressive war as their two very different personalities clash. Fun fact: Sadie Sandler is the daughter of legendary comedic actor Adam Sandler, who makes a cameo in this Netflix film.

‘Shelby Oaks’ (Hulu)

Last year, popular YouTube movie critic Chris Stuckmann made his feature directorial debut with “Shelby Oaks,” a supernatural horror movie that was unfortunately a bit of a critical bust. At least its box office returns were respectable considering its comparatively small budget.

Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of this one. While it starts promising enough with a hooky mystery, the finale descends into cheesy terror, and it ends on a real whimper. However, if you missed it in theaters and consider yourself a dedicated Stuckmann fan, it’s now heading to Hulu.

This horror centers on Mia (Camille Sullivan), a woman determined to find her missing sister, who hasn’t been seen in 12 years after vanishing while filming an episode of her online paranormal investigation show. Searching for clues, Mia finds shocking secrets that suggest Riley’s disappearance could be linked to a childhood demon, which isn’t so imaginary. Stuckmann uses found-footage and YouTube-style presentation in some interesting ways out of the gate, so it’s a shame that the back half of the movie is far more cookie-cutter.

Hulu is great for building your next binge-watch. The streaming service has hit original shows as well as shows from a wide range of Disney-owned networks. That means shows from FX, ABC, 20th Television (formerly owned by Fox) and more. This means that there's constantly a slew of new shows from major studios, and many of the other streaming services can't replicate.

It can be overwhelming to decide which show to start binging first, though. So I've put together a list of three new shows perfect for adding to your weekend watchlist. First up is "The Testaments," a sequel to "The Handmaid's Tale" that just had its three-episode premiere. Then, there's "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair," another sequel series to a hit show. Finally, the two-episode premiere of the Korean romantic comedy "Perfect Crown" is this weekend, with one episode dropping on Friday and the next dropping on Saturday.

'The Testaments'

Genre: Dystopian drama

What's it about? Set years after "The Handmaid's Tale," "The Testaments" stars Chase Infiniti as Agnes, a star student and dutiful child in the theocratic state of Gilead. But when she's tasked with helping Canadian convert, Daisy (Lucy Halliday), get accustomed to her new home, they both come to realize not everything is what it seems in Gilead.

Why you should watch it: "The Handmaid's Tale" was a massive hit for Hulu, so they'll be hoping they got the formula right again with this sequel. Given it stars Infiniti, who just had a breakout performance in "One Battle After Another," this show is definitely one to keep an eye on.

'Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair'

Genre: Sitcom miniseries

What's it about? Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) is 20 years removed from the events of "Malcolm in the Middle." In that time, he's started a family, has a daughter, Leah (Keely Karsten) and a wonderful girlfriend, Tristan (Kiana Madeira). Everything is great ... until his family makes him come back into their lives for his parents' (Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek) 40th anniversary party.

Why you should watch it: I could not stop laughing while watching the trailer for this, and I cannot wait to see Cranston and Kaczmarek back together. Plus, "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair" is just four episodes long, making it an easy binge-watch.

'Perfect Crown' season 1

Genre: Korean romantic comedy

What's it about? Sung Hui-ju (IU) is from a wealthy family, but she remains a commoner and one born out of wedlock at that. But she sees an opportunity when she meets Prince I-an (Byeon Woo-seok), who has legitimacy but nobody to share it with.

Why you should watch it: If you like K-dramas, then this one about a royal romance in an alternate history seems to have potential. Just definitely opt for the subtitles; the English dub in the trailer looks awful.
