It’s officially summer, which means the biggest streaming services are rolling out fresh content to keep everyone entertained during these warmer months, Prime Video being one of them.

Prime Video has just released its full July 2026 lineup, so I’ve included the top picks we already know about, along with new library titles set to drop at the beginning of the month. This month's releases include the “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle,” which follows the titular character in her high school years. There’s also an action-packed comedy series starring Hannah Waddingham and the second season of an animated superhero show.

‘Elle’ (July 1)

“Elle” functions as an official TV prequel to the iconic 2001 film “Legally Blonde,” taking place six years before the events of the movie. Executive producer Reese Witherspoon actually revealed that she was directly inspired to create the spinoff after watching the massive success of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” realizing that audiences would love to see how an iconic character's distinct personality was forged during their high school years. It already seems like a bright, breezy, and fun piece of summer TV.

The show follows teenage Elle Woods (Lexi Minetree) in 1995, years before she becomes the confident law student audiences know from the films. After her family relocates from Bel-Air to Seattle, Elle finds herself starting over at a new high school, where she must form new friendships and get through the everyday chaos of adolescence. As she adjusts to her new surroundings, Elle relies on the support of her parents and close friends while discovering the experiences that help shape her future.

‘Ride or Die’ (July 15)

If you’re in the mood for a buddy action-comedy series, you’ll want “Ride or Die” on your watchlist. The creators explicitly set out to build a massive, blockbuster-scale action series anchored entirely by a platonic female friendship between two women in their 50s. Judging by the trailer, it aims to be a loud and high-energy popcorn thrill ride that thrives entirely on the electric chemistry between Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham.

‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ season 2 (July 31)

Another big series on Prime Video this month is the second season of “Batman: Caped Crusader,” which stands as a spiritual successor to the legendary 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series,” bringing back original co-creator Bruce Timm alongside modern blockbuster masterminds Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams to produce the show. This series follows a young, deeply psychologically isolated Bruce Wayne in his early years as a masked vigilante.

Set in a shadowy version of Gotham City, “Batman: Caped Crusader” season 2 follows Bruce Wayne (Hamish Linklater) as he continues his war on crime while facing a new wave of dangerous criminals. If you thought Netflix's password-sharing crackdown a few years ago was bad, you're about to be even more pissed off. Netflix is rolling out an update that requires every profile under your shared household account to have its own unique email.

Over the last few weeks, Netflix subscribers have been prompted to add an email address directly to their profile instead of just using the primary account's email, according to multiple reports on Reddit. It's part of a permanent change that started rolling out on June 15, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Ars Technica. We've reached out for clarification, and will update once we hear back.

For context, Netflix lets you have up to five different user profiles in the same account so that each user can have different recommendations tailored to their tastes. Until now, one email and password controlled the account regardless of how many profiles were on it.

That's appears to be changing as Netflix tightens guardrails to keep subscribers from sharing their accounts across multiple households. Now, a screen pops up informing subscribers of "personalized new ways to enjoy Netflix" along with a prompt to enter their email address. The alert says this makes it easier to log in, recover your account, and get improved personalized suggestions.

On paper, this added step makes some sense, since it means you don't have to bug the owner of the primary email address every time you want to sign in on a new device. Profile owners and account owners can now also set their own language, audio, and display settings separately, Cord Cutters News notes. The other two benefits, though—simplified account recovery and better recommendations—are less convincing, especially since the latter was already available before the change.

Some users are speculating that assigning email addresses to individual profiles could eventually help the company identify users more precisely — or even make it easier to split them into separate accounts in the future. Critics argue that Netflix doesn't actually need this information and is instead looking for even more ways to track viewers and bombard them with advertising. Those concerns aren't entirely unfounded, as Netflix's privacy policy states that it may share users' email addresses with marketing and advertising partners.

For now, the feature appears to be rolling out gradually. I made a new profile on my Netflix account and wasn't prompted to tie a new email address to it before streaming the latest movies and shows. Still, given Netflix's recent push to crack down on account sharing, it's worth keeping an eye on whether this is simply a helpful quality-of-life feature or another step in how the company manages accounts.

'Little Brother' (2026)

As a big fan of both "The Eric André Show" and John Cena's unhinged straight man brand of humor ("Peacemaker" was one of my favorite shows last year), Netflix's new buddy comedy "Little Brother" shot to the top of my watchlist this weekend. Clearly I'm not alone, as it's currently sitting at the No. 1 spot in the Netflix top 10.

Cena stars as successful real estate agent Rudd, whose stable — if less-than-fulfilling — life is thrown into disarray when his former mentee Marcus (Eric André) unexpectedly crashes back into it at the worst possible moment. A chaos magnet with a knack for turning every situation into a catastrophe, Marcus leaves Rudd scrambling to clean up the mess. Based on the trailer, "Little Brother" leans heavily into slapstick, pairing Cena's perpetually exasperated straight-man performance with André's off-the-wall energy.

'Maternal Instinct' (2026)

Netflix subscribers can't seem to get enough true-crime documentaries, and few recent cases are as shocking as the murder of Reagan Simmons-Hancock. It's little surprise, then, that "Maternal Instinct" is still hanging strong in the Netflix Top 10 for the third weekend in the row.

The documentary follows the disturbing case of Taylor Parker, a young woman desperate to build a family with her boyfriend, Wade Griffin, a hog trapper from small-town Texas. When Parker is pulled over by a state trooper in 2020 with a newborn in tow, she claims she just gave birth in her car. But with not a spec of blood in sight, investigators quickly uncover a horrifying crime that reveals just how far she was willing to go to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother. For true-crime fans, "Maternal Instinct" is a gripping and deeply unsettling watch with twists that are almost impossible to believe.

'Voicemails for Isabelle' (2026)

With an 84% critics score and even more glowing 91% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, "Voicemails for Isabelle" is shaping up to be one of Netflix's biggest hits of the year. Thankfully, it's a step above some of Netflix's weaker recent rom-coms, like "Office Romance" and "Ladies First."

San Francisco chef Jill (Zoey Deutch) is struggling to move on after the death of her sister, Isabelle (Ciara Bravo), and copes by leaving heartfelt voicemails on Isabelle's old phone number. What Jill doesn't realize is that the number has been reassigned to Wes (Nick Robinson), a real estate agent in Austin. As he quietly listens to her candid, messages, Wes finds himself falling for a woman he's never met, and he engineers a seemingly spontaneous meet-cute with Jill to get her to fall for him. None of these story beats are especially original, but they're handled well enough to make for an enjoyable watch.

We're now almost halfway through my 52-week Denzel Watchathon, and we're almost halfway through Denzel Washington's Oscar-nominated performances. This week's movie, "The Hurricane," marks the fourth of nine such performances in Denzel's resume, and after watching it, I can definitely see why he was nominated. His performance as the titular Rubin "Hurricane" Carter takes this movie to a whole other level.

That's not to say that without him, this movie would be bad. While there's not much sports in this sports biopic (we only get glimpses of boxing matches), as a legal thriller or crime drama it's perfectly fine. It's relatively pedestrian at times, though it has a few creative flourishes, such as switching from black-and-white film stock for Rubin's bouts, simulating what a broadcast would have looked like at the time, to color film for everything else. But 146 minutes later and its clear that Denzel is what makes this movie anything that borders on remarkable.

If you want to watch this movie before you read on, I have great news! Not only is "The Hurricane" streaming on Paramount+, one of the best streaming services out there, but you can also stream it for free (with ads) on YouTube.

'The Hurricane' is a fine movie elevated by a great performance

As I mentioned, this movie centers around Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a professional boxer with a checkered past from Paterson, New Jersey. He's had a few brushes with greatness and a few brushes with the law, but his life comes to a grinding halt when he's convicted of three murder charges and sentenced to three life sentences.

Normally, that'd be the end of the story. But Rubin knows he's innocent, something that's not outright shown to the viewer right away, but is always heavily implied until the film makes it explicit. This movie isn't about whether or not Rubin should be free, but whether or not he can prove he's been wrongfully imprisoned.

As part of his strategy, he writes a book from prison, which eventually is published and makes its way into the hands of Lesra Martin (Vicellous Reon Shannon). He starts reading it vociferously, and then begins a correspondence with Rubin, convinced that the former boxer should be freed.

Their relationship is a cornerstone of what makes this movie special, and that's heavily reliant on Denzel, though Vicellous Reon Shannon does drop a remarkable, single tear on demand in one scene. The more I've watched Denzel's performances, the more I've come to realize that his range is a big reason he's so good. He admittedly tends to play a certain type of character more often than not: a Black man with some hard edges to him. But while Denzel can do over-the-top and aggressive with ease, he can also soften those edges with similar deftness, and it's a skill we see on display time and time again in "The Hurricane."

Take the first scene in the movie, for example. In that scene, Denzel is getting ready to fight anyone who dares to come in and try to search through his cell. It comes from an understandable place, but it's overly dramatic and aggressive behavior nonetheless. But by the end of the movie, which is admittedly set years later from that initial scene, he's an urbane, eloquent speaker making a passionate but even-toned plea for his own freedom.

A lesser actor would take a moment like that to ham it up a bit. To really chew some scenery. And sometimes, that's what's called for (see Gary Oldman in "Léon"), but sometimes less is more, and Denzel knows that this courtroom monologue is exactly one of those times. He's one of the best at cutting through to the audience while being calm and collected, and in "The Hurricane," that talent is utilized frequently.

Verdict: Streaming this movie for free is a no-brainer

Again, it's important to point out that, for the most part, this movie is just fine, maybe even good. If you take out Denzel's performance, it's not anything on par with "Philadelphia" or even "A Soldier's Story," another legal drama from director Norman Jewison that features an impressive Denzel performance.

But, thankfully, we do get a Denzel performance in "The Hurricane," and despite earning an Oscar nomination for it, it might be his most underrated, if not his most unheralded. Given that it's currently streaming on YouTube for free (albeit with ads), there's no excuse not to watch it, and thanks to Denzel, watching it is genuinely worth your time.

"Couture" is not your typical summer movie. It's no blockbuster by any means, nor was it intended to be a summer movie. Debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, it's a pure drama film, pitched as being centered around an award-worthy performance from Angelina Jolie.

To her credit, this movie's shortcomings aren't really Jolie's fault. In fact, that's the problem. If we got more of Jolie in this movie, maybe she'd have more opportunities to make or break this film. But for a movie that's supposedly centered around her and her emotional journey, she's missing from at least a third of it.

Unfortunately, her absence seriously derails the movie. The other characters we focus on — there are three point-of-view characters in the story — aren't uninteresting, but Jolie remains the main focus of the movie, and so we don't spend enough time to sink into the other storylines either.

In the end, the result is a surprisingly flat movie for a drama that clearly has ambitions of plumbing the depths of its characters' emotions. Jolie's character is going through genuine turmoil that should be engaging, but because the movie refuses to let us sit in her turmoil, our attention is free to wander.

'Couture' struggles to focus on its story

In "Couture," Jolie plays Maxine, an American filmmaker hired by a Parisian fashion house to craft a short film to precede its Paris Fashion Week show. As the movie goes along, it's made clear that she's also going through a tumultuous divorce that's caused friction between her and her daughter.

But then the real kicker comes: she's diagnosed with breast cancer. She's not expecting it at all, and now her time and attention are divided between filming, the divorce and the cancer diagnosis.

Unfortunately, the movie then chooses to divide our attention between her and two others. Ada (Anyier Anei) is a rookie model from South Sudan (via Kenya) hired to not only star in Maxine's movie but also to then walk out on the runway before everyone else during the show. Then there's Angèle (Ella Rumpf), a makeup artist who is working on writing a screenplay based on her experiences in the industry while running around the city to work at various events.

Any of these stories would be genuinely interesting. And if the movie chose to focus on just one of them, it'd be far better for it. Alternatively, if the movie chose to be a loose series of interconnected vignettes, that would also have been an intriguing choice with serious potential. But instead, it tries to portray Maxine as the main character while devoting significant chunks of time to Ada's story, and wrapping it up in the end with narration by Angèle, seemingly making it her story all along.

Verdict: 'Couture' stumbles on the runway

I wish I could recommend this movie, I really do. I find the individual stories contained within 'Couture' to be fascinating ... save a weird love story that feels shoehorned in towards the end. I'd have loved to see a version of this movie that focused just on Maxine, or brought her and Ada's storylines much closer together.

But that's not what we got, so I have to declare this movie not worth a trip to the cinema. It's likely to eventually come to one of the best streaming services (probably Hulu, given it's distributed by Vertical), so if you want to check it out for yourself, I'd wait until then. In the meantime, perhaps check out "The Devil Wears Prada" if you need your Parisian fashion fix, because this movie is too far off the mark.

HBO’s four-part original documentary series “The Man Will Burn” tracks the wild, 30-plus-year evolution of the Burning Man festival. Directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Jehane Noujaim and Vikram Gandhi, the series will release new episodes weekly on Thursdays.

“The Man Will Burn” follows the evolution of Burning Man from its origins as a small countercultural gathering in San Francisco to the massive desert event it has become today, drawing around 80,000 participants each year. Across its episodes, the series tracks how the event is organized and experienced on the ground, using extensive access to Burning Man Project leadership, participants, and archive footage.

‘The Long Walk’ (2025)

“The Long Walk” is a cinematic adaptation of master storyteller Stephen King’s very first novel (originally published under his Richard Bachman pseudonym in 1979). This dark thriller is one of 2025’s best films, driven by its incredible performances. It’s a deeply psychological and highly emotional movie about human endurance, with David Jonsson, Cooper Hoffman, Ben Wang, Charlie Plummer and more of the cast putting their heart and soul into their roles.

A yearly endurance contest in a militarized United States is televised, where 50 teenage boys, one from each state, are selected to compete in a brutal survival event. Participants must keep moving at a constant minimum speed of three miles per hour without stopping, while being monitored by armed soldiers and broadcast to the public. Each competitor is given warnings if they fall below the required pace, and repeated failures result in execution. The event ends only when a single boy remains.

‘Marc by Sofia’ (2025)

“Marc by Sofia” is a documentary directed by Sofia Coppola about fashion designer Marc Jacobs that provides an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at his life and work. Marking Coppola’s very first foray into nonfiction filmmaking, the project is a collaborative release between A24 and the production company This Machine. After making its world premiere out of competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, it has been widely celebrated as a chic love letter to creative collaboration and high fashion.

The film tracks the lead-up to Jacobs’ Spring 2024 runway show, showing him developing ideas, shaping designs, and refining the production of the collection. It also explores his long-running friendship with Coppola, with the director observing his creative process up close while he reflects on his career milestones, including his early breakthrough in fashion and later work at major houses.

‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ (2026)

Who knew we would be getting another “Big Bang Theory” spin-off? “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” is an upcoming 10-episode sci-fi action-adventure comedy series co-created by sitcom kingpin Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and veteran sci-fi writer Zak Penn. This already seems like an incredibly ambitious, delightfully odd, and highly unexpected spin-off that ditches the traditional studio laugh track for a more cinematic adventure format.

Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman) is a comic book store owner who accidentally triggers a catastrophic multiverse collapse after tampering with an experimental device created by Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki). Thrown into a rapidly unraveling reality, Stuart is forced into an unlikely mission to repair the damage and restore order. He is joined by his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist Bert (Brian Posehn), and physicist Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie), forming a reluctant team.

‘The Drama’ (2026)

Before “The Drama” came out, the internet was full of chatter that the film had a twist you would never see coming, with people speculating endlessly about what it could be. I avoided pretty much all of it to keep it a surprise, and it genuinely wasn’t the direction I expected at all. If you’ve somehow managed to dodge the conversation too, it’s worth going in blind. The reveal is dark, and it immediately sets up some pretty juicy, messy drama that drives everything that follows.

Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Robert Pattinson) are a few days away from their wedding, but their relationship begins to unravel after an unexpected confession disrupts their plans. As the week leading up to the ceremony plays out, the pair are forced to confront the shocking secrets that reshape their understanding of each other. Friends and family also become caught in the fallout, including Charlie’s best man Mike (Mamoudou Athie) and Emma’s maid of honor Rachel (Alana Haim).

Netflix has revealed everything coming to the streaming service in July 2026, and there are quite a few must-watch movies and shows. Top of the list is "Enola Holmes 3," Millie Bobby Brown's latest for Netflix. But the best movie to see this month is undeniably "Hamnet," which nearly won Best Picture at the Oscars earlier this year. It was one of my favorite movies of 2025 and you should make it a priority once it's on Netflix later this July.

These aren't the only titles to keep an eye on, though. "The Hawk" is a new comedy series starring Will Ferrell as an upstart golfer. Keeping things funny, you'll also want to check out "72 Hours," which throws Kevin Hart into a Miami bachelor party that he's way too old to be at. Finally, the MLB Home Run Derby is on Netflix this year, and you'll be able to watch it live on July 13.

New on Netflix in July 2026: Top picks

'Enola Holmes 3'

Genre: Mystery movie

What it's about: Millie Bobby Brown reprises as Enola, the sister of the famous investigator Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill). But she's the one stuck playing detective when he disappears right before her wedding to Lord Twekesbury (Louis Partridge).

Why you should watch it: If you watched the previous two installments in this franchise, you'll surely watch the third. But even if you haven't, the previous two movies did well among critics and audiences according to Rotten Tomatoes. So this movie might be worth checking out on its merits alone.

'Hamnet'

Genre: Historical fiction drama movie

What it's about: "Hamnet" is based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel of the same name, and it tells the (somewhat true) tale of Agnes (Jessie Buckley) and William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal). It starts with their budding relationship, then transitions to a story about how their son, Hamnet (Noah Jupe), influenced one of the greatest plays ever written: "Hamlet."

Why you should watch it: This movie will almost certainly make you cry. In my review of "Hamnet," I mentioned I declared it a masterpiece that delivered one emotional hammer blow after another. I also declared Jessie Buckley a future Oscar winner, which was one of the easiest predictions I ever got correct.

'The Hawk'

Genre: Comedy series

What it's about: Lonnie "Hawk" Hawkins (Will Ferrell) was the best golfer in the world in 2004. But it's now two decades later, and he'll need to go from washed-up legend to upstart contender if he wants to win the final, elusive major to complete his career Grand Slam and put him in truly rarified air.

Why you should watch it: Simply put, "The Hawk" looks fun. If you like Ferrell's brand of humor, specifically his sports comedies like "Talladega Nights" or "Blades of Glory," then you'll surely enjoy this new Netflix series. It doesn't hurt that he'll be acting alongside Molly Shannon and Luke Wilson, either.

'72 Hours'

Genre: Comedy movie

What it's about: Joe (Kevin Hart) is a 40-year-old business executive who ends up accidentally added to the group chat of a bunch of 20-somethings. That could get crazy enough, but things go to a whole other level when he decides to join them on a three-day Miami bachelor party.

Why you should watch it: "72 Hours" might end up being more funny than good, but the trailer does show some promise that it'll at least be funny. Plus, the cast includes some "Saturday Night Live" cast members, Academy Award nominee Teyana Taylor and the legendary Andy Garcia. So, maybe it will be good after all.

MLB Home Run Derby 2026

Genre: Live sports event

What it's about: The Home Run Derby pits some of Major League Baseball's best sluggers in a three-round contest of dingers at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park.

Why you should watch it: The MLB All-Star game itself might often disappoint, but the Home Run Derby rarely does. It's loaded with drama as some of the best hitters in the game unload homer after homer. The only catch? As of this writing, we don't know who those hitters will be.

Granted, that's less than the first two movies in the series, as I assume a lot of folks were waiting to catch "Fire and Ash" on streaming — that was my plan, at any rate. This threequel picks up not long after the events of "The Way of Water," with the Sully family still reeling after the death of Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), the eldest son of human-turned-Na'vi Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña).

There's hardly time to mourn before a new threat sparks up: a fiery Na'vi tribe led by Varang (Oona Chaplin), who's allied with humanity's forces. It all leads to a showdown that's as visually stunning as the rest in James Cameron's blockbuster series, though the plot does tread much of the same territory as "The Way of Water."

‘Little Brother’ (Netflix)

As a big fan of both "The Eric André Show" and John Cena's unhinged straight man brand of humor, Netflix's new buddy comedy "Little Brother" is at the top of my watchlist this weekend. Cena stars as a successful real estate agent Rudd whose unhappy but stable life is thrown into chaos when his former mentee Marcus (André) reappears with the subtlety of a wrecking ball at the worst time possible.

A walking magnet for trouble, Marcus finds a way to turn every situation into a disaster, which the buttoned-up Rudd is forced to clean up. Judging by the trailer, "Little Brother" leans heavily into slapstick comedy, with Cena playing the exasperated straight man opposite André's off-the-wall energy.

'I Love Boosters' (PVOD)

Boots Riley applies his brand of dark comedy and magical realism to a Robin Hood–style proletarian allegory in "I Love Boosters," a surreal heist comedy I was sad to see do so poorly at the box office despite its 92% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The perennially hilarious Keke Palmer stars as Corvette, an aspiring fashion designer struggling to escape a literal boulder of debt.

To pay it off, she heads an all-women shoplifting crew known as the Velvet Gang that targets high-end San Francisco stores and sells back to her working-class Oakland community. It's enough to catch the attention of ruthless fashion mogul and capitalism incarnate Christie Smith (Demi Moore), and I won't spoil any more than that because it's a wild ride that's better experienced than explained. This is the kind of movie that hits you hard and fast with dazzling visuals and insane ideas, leaving you thinking "What on earth did I just watch?"

'Undertone' (HBO Max)

2026 has been a marquee year for horror movies, and while you're waiting for "Obsession" or "The Backrooms" to hit streaming, HBO Max has a great one to tide you over that you may not have heard of. "Undertone" stars Nina Kiri as Evy, the host of a hit horror podcast who records episodes from home while caring for her ailing mother (Michèle Duquet).

When she and her co-host (Adam DiMarco) receive a mysterious audio recordings of a couple's terrifying paranormal encounters, even the usually skeptical Evy begins to suspect something supernatural is at play. As the chilling tapes reveal something increasingly sinister, she's forced to reckon with the possibility that some ghosts might be real after all.

'The Sheep Detectives' (Prime Video)

One of the year's most delightful surprises, "The Sheep Detectives" puts a clever spin on the classic murder mystery formula. After their beloved shepherd, George (Hugh Jackman), is found dead, a flock of sheep sets out to uncover the truth behind his murder. The result is a witty, heartwarming whodunnit that's just as entertaining for adults as it is for younger viewers.

The stellar voice cast only adds to the fun, with standout performances from Bryan Cranston, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, and more. Stadiums, airports, and fan parks are some of the worst environments imaginable for public Wi-Fi. Tens of thousands of people competing for the same signal means packet loss, crawling speeds, and connections that drop without warning. So, for example, if you're heading to a few games at the FIFA World Cup 2026, things might not be as smooth as you'd like.

One of the best VPNs is a handy tool to have at your disposal on networks like these. While it's fairly unlikely nowadays you'll be caught out by a man-in-the-middle attack, boosting your privacy can only be a good thing – and when a VPN is set up right, a VPN may also be able to increase your connection speeds significantly.

Here, I'll run down a few quick settings to tweak to make your public Wi-Fi experience more bearable.

Pick your protocol

A VPN protocol is the set of rules that determines how your device encrypts and moves your data. On a congested or restrictive network, the wrong protocol can mean failed connections, throttled speeds, or both – and switching is often the quickest fix.

WireGuard should be your first port of call. It's a modern protocol built with a low data overhead and near-instant reconnection times, making it well suited to the kind of unstable connections you'll find in a packed stadium or airport terminal. Most VPN apps already default to it – but if you're on an iPhone, check your settings, as IKEv2 is often the default instead.

IKEv2 is a solid runner-up for mobile users who switch frequently between Wi-Fi and cellular data. It handles network changes smoothly, though speeds won't quite match WireGuard.

If you're struggling to connect at all, try OpenVPN. It's generally slower than WireGuard, but its ability to run on port 443 – the same port used by standard web traffic – means it's more likely to work on networks that try to block VPNs. Stay stealthy

Many stadiums and airports actively manage their networks by throttling heavy data users – a necessary measure when tens of thousands of people are sharing the same connection, but one that can reduce your speeds to near-unusable levels during a big event.

VPNs can sidestep this by hiding your traffic from the network – if it can't see what you're doing, it can't single you out for throttling. The catch is that many venues have wised up to this, and will throttle any traffic that looks like VPN traffic too.

The fix is Stealth Mode – sometimes called Obfuscation or Scramble depending on which app you're using. It disguises your VPN traffic as ordinary web traffic, so the network treats it accordingly. You keep the speed benefits of bypassing throttling while your actual activity stays hidden.

Unfortunately, if the network you're connected to flat-out throttle's everyone's connection, regardless of how much data theyre using, a VPN won't make much of a difference. As always, there's an element of trial and error to this.

Set switches to kill

Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data – or simply dropping out of range in a crowded venue – can cause your VPN connection to drop momentarily. That split second is enough for your real IP address to be exposed before the VPN reconnects, which defeats the purpose of using one in the first place.

A kill switch solves this by blocking all internet traffic the moment your VPN drops, preventing any leaks until the connection is restored. Pair this with Auto-Connect, which ensures your VPN engages automatically whenever you join an untrusted public network, and you've closed off the two most common sources of accidental exposure.

As a side-note, your VPN "blocking all internet traffic" sounds drastic, but in reality, it's nothing to worry about. This only equates to a second or two of downtime, which is very unlikely to be noticed.

Split the tunnel

Running all your apps through a VPN simultaneously puts extra demand on both your device and the network – bandwidth you can't afford to waste when thousands of people are competing for the same signal.

Split tunneling lets you choose which apps use the VPN and which don't. Route your sensitive apps – banking, email, social media logins – through the encrypted tunnel, and let everything else connect directly. Checking live scores or streaming music in the background doesn't need VPN protection, and bypassing it for those apps can free up enough speed to make a real difference. Plus, by reducing the amount of data you need to encrypt will also save you precious battery life.

Bottom line

A few seconds spent in your VPN's settings can be the difference between a working connection and a frustrating one.

Switch your protocol – WireGuard for speed, OpenVPN if you're struggling to connect – enable Stealth mode, turn on your kill switch, and set up split tunneling. Do all of this, and you'll be in a far better position than the thousands of other people on the same network.

Based on the 2002 novel by Nick Tosches, this Julian Schnabel-directed literary drama sees Oscar Isaac in two roles: as Dante Alighieri, the 14th-century Italian poet behind "The Divine Comedy," and as Nick Tosches, a 21st-century New York author recruited by a mob boss (played by John Malkovich) to steal an original handwritten manuscript of Alighieri's famed poem straight from the Vatican library.

But the restaurant industry is cruel, and after the shocking end to season 4, the gang has to get it together for one final service and one last shot at glory.

Why you should watch it: Frankly, you should watch this for no other reason than this is the end. Seasons 1-2 of "The Bear" were two of the best seasons of television this century. Season 3 may have fallen off, but season 4 bounced back, and chances are you've been along for the entire ride. You owe it to yourself to see it through to the end.

'Not Suitable for Work' season 1

Genre: Comedy series

What's it about? "Not Suitable for Work" stars Ella Hunt, Avantika Vandanapu, Will Angus, Jack Martin and Nicholas Duvernay as a group of 20-somethings who are trying to make it work as young professionals in Manhattan. But one of them, AJ (Hunt), is already attracted to her boss (Jay Ellis), so it's safe to say things won't go smoothly.

Why you should watch it: This show sure seems funny, at least based on the trailers. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have not been kind, but audiences seem to like it, probably in no small part because Mindy Kaling is the creative mind behind this new comedy series. The season finale just dropped on Hulu this week, so now is the perfect time to check it out.

'Rivals' season 2

Genre: British period comedy-drama series

What's it about? British MP Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) does not get along with Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant). They have an intense rivalry with no boundaries; it's already seeped into Rutshire and into Tony's TV company, Corinium. In season 2, it's also seeped into British politics and seems ready to bring down at least one of these two men.

Why you should watch it: If you love David Tennant, then it's a must-watch. If you love a British period piece, then "Rivals" is a must-watch. Catch up now before part 2 of season 2 arrives this fall.

Paramount+ is constantly adding new shows to binge, and this weekend is no exception. The streaming service drops new episodes of hit shows every week, and sometimes even entire seasons to binge. In fact, it added 93 new movies and shows on June 1 alone. These aren't always new, original shows, though. While Paramount+ adds new shows from Paramount's networks, like CBS, as well as coproductions with international studios, it also brings back older shows, ripe for a binge-watch.

This weekend, I've got three shows worth watching. First, there's "Wild Cherry," a British thriller miniseries that already debuted in the U.K. but just made its streaming debut on Paramount+ this week. Then, there's "Dutton Ranch," which only has one episode left after this weekend. Finally, "The Agency" season 2 is now available to binge in its entirety, as Paramount opted for a 10-episode drop rather than a weekly release schedule this time around.

'Wild Cherry'

Genre: British thriller miniseries

What's it about? Wild Cherry centers around a self-made businesswoman, Lorna (Carmen Ejogo), and her best friend, Juliet (Eve Best). The latter was born into a world of wealth and good fortune, but now they both live in an enclave with their daughters. Their lives are rocked, though, when their daughters are suddenly implicated in a scandal and toxic secrets start to tear through the small, elite community.

Why you should watch it: Despite already premiering in the U.K., there aren't too many reviews for this limited series on Rotten Tomatoes. That said, the few that exist are good, and the Brits know how to nail a six-episode miniseries. I fully expect this show to be well worth watching.

'Dutton Ranch' season 1

Genre: Neo-Western drama series

What's it about? "Dutton Ranch" brings back Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly in a "Yellowstone" spinoff, and it's addictive to watch. The duo is reprising their roles as Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton from the original show, but this time, they're starting over in Texas. They hope to get away from the baggage of Montana, but it turns out there's plenty of new drama in the Lone Star State.

Why you should watch it: "Yellowstone" never really spoke to me, but I've been enjoying this spin-off. In my "Dutton Ranch" review, I highlighted Ed Harris and Annette Bening as being big reasons I liked it, and so far, they remain the highlights of the show. I haven't stopped watching and am eagerly awaiting next weekend's season finale.

'The Agency' season 2

Genre: Spy thriller series

What's it about? "The Agency” is adapted from the acclaimed French spy thriller series "Le Bureau des Légendes" (or "The Bureau"). It's set at the CIA's London office and stars Michael Fassbender as a deep-cover agent named Brandon, though he mostly goes by his codename: "Martian." His cover and his work life are dangerously intertwined, and in season 2, he will betray the CIA to save the woman he loves (Jodie Turner-Smith).

Why you should watch it: I've seen all 10 episodes, and in my "The Agency" season 2 review, I landed firmly in the camp of loving this show once again. It's not a perfect show; most of the problems from season 1 are still there in season 2. But this show knows how to build to an explosive finale, and I don't mean that simply as a metaphor.

Now that summer is here, temperatures are only going to keep climbing, and the idea of staying indoors to watch Netflix instead of soaking up the sunshine might not appeal to everyone. But if you’re anything like me and struggle with the heat, you’d probably rather settle in with a new series and a fan blasting in front of you than melt outside.

Thankfully, Netflix keeps its library stocked with fresh content every week, so there’s always something new to binge.

To make your choice a little easier, I've picked three Netflix shows that are well worth watching. That includes an action drama following the crew of a naval destroyer as they fight to save humanity, the second season of the live action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” and a documentary exploring the origins of American democracy.

If you're spending the weekend with Netflix, these three new series should be at the top of your list.

‘The Last Ship’

“The Last Ship” is a post-apocalyptic military drama based on William Brinkley's 1988 novel of the same name. Executive produced by Hollywood blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay, the series ran for five action-packed seasons, spanning 56 episodes before concluding in 2018. It follows the crew of a U.S. Navy destroyer as they respond to a global pandemic that wipes out more than 80% of the world's population. If you enjoy tense naval thrillers like “Crimson Tide” or “The Hunt for Red October,” this is well worth adding to your watchlist.

After a devastating global pandemic wipes out most of the world’s population, the crew of the USS Nathan James returns from a classified mission to discover that civilization has collapsed. Led by Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane), the sailors become one of the few remaining organized military forces and embark on a dangerous mission to locate a cure while avoiding rival factions determined to seize control.

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” is back with season 2 on Netflix. Following a massive renewal after its debut, the live-action adaptation steps completely out of the introductory world-building and dives headfirst into the sprawling and politically fractured Earth Kingdom. Veteran producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani stepped up as the new co-showrunners to guide the franchise through its most mature chapter yet. Season 2 is a faster, darker, and vastly more sophisticated block of TV than its predecessor.

After successfully defending the Northern Water Tribe, Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley) continue their journey into the Earth Kingdom in search of the elusive Earth King, hoping to secure his support against Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). Along the way, Aang must master earthbending and recruits the gifted young prodigy Toph Beifong (Miya Cech) as his new teacher. Their travels lead them to the sprawling city of Ba Sing Se, where they uncover a dangerous secret operating beneath the city’s peaceful façade.

‘The American Experiment’

Released just in time to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, “The American Experiment” looks back at the founding of the U.S. and explores the question of whether a new system of self-governance could truly survive over time. It’s executive produced by Hollywood icon Tom Hanks and directed by acclaimed documentary filmmaker Brian Knappenberger. If you’re a history buff or want to understand how the past still shapes politics today, this five-part summer release is essential viewing.

This new doc revisits the founding of the United States as it approaches the country’s 250th anniversary. It follows the events leading up to the American Revolution, the War of Independence, and the drafting of the Constitution through to the early formation of the federal government. The series brings together historians and commentators from across the spectrum, alongside reenactments and archival material, to reconstruct key moments in the nation’s creation.

"The Invite" may not have been the biggest summer movie to watch this year, but it's been the best. I've seen "Backrooms," "Obsession," "Disclosure Day" and even "Toy Story 5," and I can unequivocally say that this comedy-drama is the best of the lot. In fact, it's the best movie of 2026 so far.

Simply put, this movie is incredible. It's not a technical marvel, given that it's set almost entirely within a large apartment in Boston and features just four actors. But it’s the only movie I think I’ve ever seen that goes from being so hilarious that you struggle to hear dialogue over the laughter of the audience, to so serious that you could hear a pin drop in that same theater.

Besides, "The Invite" being so intimate is for the best. Or at least, it gets the best out of director Olivia Wilde. Despite a positive debut with "Booksmart," her 2022 disaster "Don't Worry Darling" had some questioning if directing was the right role for her. This movie renders those questions moot. She's in complete control of the confines of the apartment, and the result is a pitch-perfect bedroom farce, until it turns into something far different.

Rogen, Wilde, Norton and Cruz show incredible range throughout 'The Invite'

"The Invite" is basically a stage play in three acts. It's set, aside from a prologue, entirely within a (relatively spacious) apartment. The cast is equally intimate; Wilde and Seth Rogen star as husband and wife, Angela and Joe, and they’re eventually joined by their neighbors, Pina (Penelope Cruz) and Hawk (Edward Norton). That's it. That's the full cast list, other than an uncredited orchestra in the aforementioned prologue.

As a comedy-drama, it runs the gamut of both sides of the spectrum. It starts as a hysterical bedroom farce, with Wilde and Rogen going from room to room, arguing about all sorts of things. Particularly, the fact that the neighbors are coming over, and that those same neighbors are keeping them up with ear-shattering orgasms.

Despite the argumentative nature of that scene, the movie feels light up to this point. The tension then starts to creep in, though, when Hawk and Pina arrive. Unbeknownst to Joe and Angela, Hawk and Pina have overheard much of the argument from outside the front door — again, mostly arguing about Hawk and Pina, themselves. Joe also doesn't go to any great lengths to hide his anger, which Hawk needles him about on several occasions.

But Pina and Hawk aren't here to poke at Joe until he snaps. They're here to — and for those who want zero spoilers, turn back now (though what I'm about to disclose is heavily implied in the trailer) — have group sex with Angela and Joe.

Turns out, this spontaneous night of drinks and charcuterie isn't so spontaneous after all; the neighbors had an ulterior motive. And as the discussion about Hawk and Pina's lifestyle choice continues, it becomes clear that Angela and Joe aren't as taken aback by the idea as one might expect.

At this point, we’re fully into the second act of the movie. The first act is the introduction; the second act is the seduction. The third act? That’s the destruction. I won't spoil exactly what happens or who it happens to, but a mishap befalls one of the foursome. From that point, there's no more laughter in this comedy-drama.

It's a sudden but deft twist in the tale, and a less talented cast than Rogen, Wilde, Norton and Cruz might struggle with it. Even though you, deep down, expect the initial shift to come, the movie manages to lead you on long enough that you wonder if maybe, just maybe, the film will avoid the expected conclusion.

Despite some of its predictability, you still can't necessarily anticipate all the turns the story takes in this third act. By the time the credits roll, you'll be sitting in stunned silence.

Verdict: 'The Invite' is the best movie of 2026 so far

Movies succeed when they either nail the realism of their world or the escapism, and this movie does both, though largely the former. If you’re in (or have ever been in) an adult, long-term relationship, you will feel seen watching this film, sometimes uncomfortably so. If you’re like me and happen to not only be a failed musician, like Joe, but also look a fair amount like Seth Rogen, that feeling of having a mirror held up to you during the course of this movie gets cranked up to 11.

Thankfully, the absurdity allows for escapism. Like many of you, I've never had an awkward dinner with neighbors turn into being propositioned for an orgy that then takes a turn for the worse. This allows you to disconnect from the story just enough to still enjoy it.

"The Invite" isn't flawless. If I were writing it, I would probably have the ending linger on a more ambiguous note. But there's no denying its excellence. It’s not just the writing that makes it a delight, either. There are moments where the technical framing of a scene is impeccable. My favorite is a scene where Angela and Joe are going back and forth and the camera cuts between them, both people totally separated but framed exactly the same way, leaning against a pillar centered along a wall.

So, if you want a movie that will make you laugh, cry and cry from laughing all at once, “The Invite” is a must-watch. It’s masterfully crafted, the epitome of farce at one moment and then the height of relationship drama the next. It’s the best movie I’ve seen all year, and filled with Oscar-worthy performances.

And capping off the month is a new crime thriller "Furious," led by "Shameless" star Emmy Rossum as an FBI agent doggedly investigating the crimes of a cunning female serial killer.

New on Hulu and Disney+ in July 2026: Top picks

'X-Men '97' season 2

Marvel Animation’s revival of the 1990s-era "X-Men: The Animated Series" continues this July with its second season, kicking off on Disney+ with a three-episode premiere on the first day of the month.

The upcoming episodes find the heroic mutant team — including Cyclops (Ray Chase), Jean Gray (Jennifer Hale), Magneto (Matthew Waterson), Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith), Wolverine (Cal Dodd) and Rogue (Lenore Zann), among others — divided and scattered through time, some in the past (from the start of Apocalypse's reign) and others in the future (at the height of his rule).

Meanwhile, back in the '90s, "suspicious foes and new strains of mutant intolerance are on the rise in the wake of the X-Men’s absence,” per the official season two description.

'Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston'

Host Tom Hiddleston plays time detective in this three-part National Geographic docudrama, which will be available to stream on both Hulu and Disney Plus. Blending "cinematic scripted drama and investigative documentary storytelling," the series will transport audiences to ancient Rome in the hours before and during the staggering eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

With input from archaeologists, historians, geologists and disaster experts, Hiddleston and Co. piece together stories of real Pompeians caught up in the disaster, including a teenage apprentice, a powerful businesswoman and a mysterious Praetorian Guard. The series "reframes Pompeii not as a story of destruction but as a human drama of resilience, sacrifice and survival," per the official synopsis.

'Furious'

From creator, writer and executive producer Elizabeth Meriwether ("The Dropout," "Dying for Sex") comes this crime thriller starring Emmy Rossum as Alice Black, a determined FBI agent on the hunt for an elusive, calculating female serial killer, played by Lola Petticrew.

"Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur," reads the series logline. (We're kind of getting "The Fall" meets "Killing Eve" vibes.) Joining Rossum in the "Furious" cast are Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Jake Lacy as supporting characters,

The vibes: Destiny + adolescence = you in danger, boy.

The plot: After a hard-fought victory in the North, Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley) set their sights on Ba Sing Se, hoping to convince the Earth King to join the war against Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). But the journey gets off-kilter in the stew of political unease, growing distrust and Aang’s rocky earthbending lessons with Toph (Miyako). The “destiny of the world” starts to feel a lot more complicated than a straight path to heroism.

‘Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness’ (HBO)

The vibes: U.S. history, with Larry David's signature kvetching.

The plot: To mark the nation’s semiquincentennial, this HBO sketch series from producers Barack and Michelle Obama reimagines key moments in U.S. history as a loosely structured, improv-like half-hour. Larry David drifts through foundational American milestones in a constant state of irritation. Across roughly four sketches per episode, a rotating lineup of comedian pals joins as history gets rewritten in real time with maximum discomfort.

‘The Other Bennet Sister’ (BritBox)

The vibes: Jane Austen gets a remix where the ignored middle sister is the star.

The plot: With the finale airing this week, and all episodes available, now is the perfect time to settle into this "Pride and Prejudice" fanfic adaptation that hands the spotlight to Mary Bennet (Ella Bruccoleri), the chronically overlooked sister whose chief crime is not being dazzling.
