9. Restoring With NTBackup

Restoring Step-by-Step: Part I

You should always test to be sure restores work. A backup is of no use if you can't restore from it. To use the NTBackup wizard to restore files, open the program as you did to backup. Go to the Backup-Restore selection page and click Restore files and settings.

Next you are shown your available backups. Select the items you want. Here we're restoring all the files in the Alienware backup.

Review the restore options you've chosen. The Advanced button opens a dialog box you can use to restore your files to an alternate location, leave or replace existing files and restore security and special system files.

On the first Advanced page of the wizard we've chosen to restore to the root of the C: drive on this computer. This way the original data won't be overwritten.
