Yahoo Inc. issued a statement regarding the possibility of Microsoft continuing to review potential deals with Yahoo. Unfortunately, it appears Microsoft is not interested – at least for now.

"Yahoo! has confirmed with Microsoft that it is not interested in pursuing an acquisition of all of Yahoo! at this time. Yahoo! and its Board of Directors continue to consider a number of value maximizing strategic alternatives for Yahoo!, and we remain open to pursuing any transaction which is in the best interest of our stockholders. Yahoo!’s Board of Directors will evaluate each of our alternatives, including any Microsoft proposal, consistent with its fiduciary duties, with a focus on maximizing stockholder value."

In other words, the Yahoo board of directors is busting their butt to appease disgruntle shareholders.

Microsoft recently revealed the company was interested in striking a deal to move towards some sort of partnership. An acquisition was not in the talks, but Microsoft revealed it “reserves the right to reconsider” the possibility of a bid for the company depending on the developments with Yahoo. While vague, the statement does reverse the software giant’s original position on the matter.

This comes on the heels of talks of a Yahoo Google partnership began to increase. Current negotiations between Yahoo and Google involve Google sold ads being displayed by Yahoo to its users. Insiders believe an announcement may be made in the coming days.

Earlier this month Microsoft withdrew its bid for Yahoo after several months of courtship. The original deal valued close to $50 billion, collapsed and angered many Yahoo shareholders. Carl Icahn, billionaire and corporate raider, began efforts to bring the giants back to the table for negotiations and an attempt to replace Yahoo’s board of directors.

No fat ladies are singing just yet for this Microsoft-Yahoo drama. However, insiders close to the software giant reveal that the latest talks might not have any meaningful results.
