Considering Windows 7 is based on Vista, it should come as no surprise that it looks like Vista.
Vista runs perfectly fine on modern hardware as long as you don't buy a pre-made POS w/ a ton of crapware on it.
I sincerely hope the rumours about removing the integrated software like DVD Maker, Photo Gallery, etc. aren't true. The quality of Vista's integrated software is head and shoulders better than what came with XP and, in a few cases, better than popular 3rd party apps. If anything, they should work to make those apps better, not remove them and make them downloadable content (I already have to download enough stuff when I set up a computer, thank you).
Most people who say that Windows Vista is a resource whore or runs terribly usually either run it on inadequate hardware stuffed with promotional software that come with vendors, or are basing their assumption on the task manager's RAM usage and don't understand the way Vista uses RAM.

Vista doesn't look that different from XP.
Either way, are you seriously judging 7 by the little bit of the GUI that you've seen.
