$80

With a plethora of cables and tips, this small widget opens up a whole new source of power for your mobile devices. In addition to a standard USB charging cable (works with notebook PCs or an iPod power adapter), you get a USB port replicator tip that works with iPods and the original iPhone; a mini-USB tip that works with Motorola, Blackberry, Garmin, and iRiver devices; and a Nokia tip that works with most of that maker’s devices. At a weight of 4.6 oz. and dimensions of 7.8” x 2.7” x 0.7”, the Solio Hybrid 1000 won’t add much to a road warrior’s burden.

Before you rush out and buy one of these for Mom, however, make sure there’s a tip available for the devices that she’ll use the Solio 1000 to charge. Not everything under the sun works with this device, even if the sun does provide the ultimate source for its power. Completely charging a phone or music player can take 12 hours or more, and works best on clear, cloudless days with plenty of sunshine.

From the slotradio.org website:

"Much like radio, these songs are played in sequence and cannot be rewound or rearranged, yet in slotRadio™, individual songs can be skipped as often as you want."

So you buy mom 1000 songs, she hears one she likes, and has to skip the other 999 to hear it again? What is sandisk thinking? Why not just get mom a real mp3 player, or perhaps a FM radio?

There had to be a catch: After all, how else would a record company allow 1000 songs to be sold for $40? That's why I wrote that it reminded me a lot of the Internet Radio model (Pandora, etc.).

My girlfriend is planning on getting her mother a netbook, probably the MSI Wind. It's sort of a cheaper alternative to the Aspire Timeline.

I'm sure netbooks are going to be extremely popular this year for Mothers Day. I'm not aware of any models that have come out in the last month, which is why I didn't include any (almost everything in this gift guide is very new).

Pretty sure my kitty would pee in that grass charging station. :(
