4. Navman ICN 550

The Navman ICN 550 is geared for GPS-assisted navigation only without PDA, multi-media or other pretensions. With dimensions of 15.1"x 22.6"x 13.4", a weight of 3.1 lbs. and a 3.5'' touch screen, the device is way too bulky to fit in your pocket and is not very conducive to carrying around in your hand when on foot, either. A short battery life of less than two hours also limits the ICN 550's use outside of the car.

In addition to point A to point B direction assistance, the ICN 550's maps offer information about where to find gas and parking lots. A new optional traffic module warns in advance of traffic trouble spots ahead and reroutes you accordingly, but as mentioned above, this option was not activated during our tests.

You can also program multiple destinations, for guidance from destination A to B or to C and personalize the device by inputting your favorite restaurants, parks, bars or other points of interest.
