What lessons were learned?

If your notebook's hard drive acts or sounds in any way unusual, play it safe and replace it. The first step is to do a safety backup - don't waste time. There literally could be only 10 minutes of life left. A hard drive upgrade kit is important when you don't have time to waste and it makes upgrading fairly easy. Upgrading a hard drive means more space and speed and often less noise and heat.

For the majority of notebooks, hard disk drive upgrades are remarkably easy. What's more, if you put a disk drive in the Apricorn enclosure, you've got a nice USB external drive and the enclosure was "free". In theory, it should be possible to use the Apricorn software to upgrade any computer's hard drive. As you can seen from some of the previous steps, although drive upgrade kits sometimes aren't marketed as such, the tools used to upgrade a notebook can make a desktop hard drive upgrade just as simple.
