5. Interview, Continued

MobilityGuru: What do the standard and extended warranties cover?

Kevin Bailey: Our Standard and Extended Warranty cover manufacturer defects of the screen. Manufacturer defects may include lines, backlight outage and other video failure.

MobilityGuru: Can a customer extend standard warranty period and if so, at what price?

Kevin Bailey: Yes, the customer has the option of extending their Standard Warranty period to one year for a fee. The customer can choose this option up to 30 days from the date of purchase of the screen. The fee for the Extended Warranty is approximately 15% of the price of the replacement screen.

MobilityGuru: Do you offer a no dead pixel or zero bright dot defect guarantee?

Kevin Bailey: Yes, we do.

MobilityGuru: In which countries are screens from ScreenTek Ltd available?

Kevin Bailey: Since we are an Internet-based business, we ship replacement screens to customers all over the world. As long as a customer has an address, we can ship a screen to them.

MobilityGuru: When a customer orders a spare screen on Wednesday morning when will it be on his desk? That is, how fast do you deliver?

Kevin Bailey: It obviously depends where the customer is located. If the customer is located in the U.S., then the customer can receive the screen the next day. If the customer is located outside the U.S. it usually takes between 2 and 3 days. We emphasize making sure customer orders are shipped the same day they are placed.

Conclusion: You Can Replace That Broken Display

Until now, users with defective laptop or notebook displays had to choose between two unattractive choices to deal with that problem: They either had to replace their old computer with a new one, or send it back to the manufacturer to replace the display. Both of these alternatives, alas, are costly. In addition, sending a unit out for repair also makes the computer unavailable to its user - for many of whom it's an important business tool - for anywhere from several days to a few weeks.

Things are different with services available from ScreenTek Limited. They pair up inexpensive replacement displays for most portable computer makes and models with fast delivery and - as far as such things go - an acceptable warranty. They have created an offering that we believe will appeal equally to business and home users alike.

To skeptics who voice fears such as, "Yeah, but what happens if I damage my computer even more when swapping out the display?" or "So what? As soon as I remove any screws from the case, I void the device's warranty?" we'd like to observe that any time you venture onto the street, there's always a potential risk of injury. Because of that, do you never leave your house? Of course not! As in many areas of life, do-it-yourself display replacement requires that you balance risks and rewards. And in this particular case, we feel strongly that there's a big payoff readily available to those with the courage to lay hands on their own equipment.

Words cannot even begin to express how thankful I am for your writing this walk through. As a college student, I cannot afford to buy a new computer or a new display because it's the only thing wrong with my laptop. Seriously, thank you SO much. Now to actually implement your advice...

I figured I would buy a replacement LCD screen from this company since there was a video telling how to do the work.

Wow--I thought for sure I could do the work, but I can't even view or download the video. Gotta have that before I'll buy.

Any help out there? What am I doing wrong?

I got the same problem. I got a Sony VGN-FZ340E and it's broken from the inside out in the screen, although it's still usable, there's a black line across the screen. Can this be replaced?
