Grads may be fast and mobile, but that doesn’t mean their data needs are lightweight. Not so long ago, a 4 GB USB flash drive was considered top of the line and more than any normal person could fill. Now, with apps like Move It making digital media easily portable, 4 GB fills up fast. In fact, it’s barely enough room for one compressed high-def movie. Whether you’ve got a high school graduate with a mountain of video to tote around or a budding scientist working on multi-gig 3D molecular models, maximum capacity in the pocket is a must.

OCZ’s Rally2 answers the call with 64 GB, the highest density available today on a traditional sub-3.5" (length) thumb drive. Of course, a gift-worthy flash drive needs more than capacity. OCZ’s Rally products are known for their slender yet rugged- and durable-aluminum design. There’s still the perennial issue of remembering where you set down the drive cap, but that’s how it goes with flash drives. At least OCZ will sell you a five-pack of replacement caps for $4.99.

Why the name Rally? OCZ was one of the first to bring dual-channel technology to flash drives and its offerings have remained one of the fastest options on the market. The 64 GB Rally2 writes at speeds of 15 MB to 20 MB per second and reads at 30 MB to 35 MB per second. These are double the sorts of rates we were seeing two or three years ago. Does the Rally2's glowing amber LED activity indicator speak “start your engines” to you? We didn’t think so, but it still looks cool. Better yet, the drive is Mac OS X-compatible and carries a lifetime warranty from OCZ.

No high-school school or middle school years have ended, and no quarter-system universities have finished the semester yet. Semester system universities held graduation, mostly, last week. I don't think it is too late to be thinking about graduation gifts at all.

Here are my thoughts.

On the AIO PC: It's nothing more than a laptop without a battery. Nothing can be upgraded. Consider getting a Laptop instead. On the plus side, it is stylish.

On the HP Printer (from personal experience): Every HP printer I've used have had horrible problems loading paper. Consider Lexmark or Canon.

On the Panasonic Camera: Nikon's Coolpix and Canon's Powershot can be found at similar prices and are (generally) better cameras.

I must admit though, the N10Jc looks pretty cool ;)

Hey Quantumrand,

Thanks for you advice. What if I asked for you to find me a computere under $500 with a tiny footprint (no tower) and a bigger than 17-inch screen. Would you be able to do that? That's where I think the cheapie AIOs come into play.

Better as a wrist support pad. I have 3 PC's and I can only use this one 1 of the them. Really? I have to buy 3 separate Replicas for my PC's? In this economy? No thanks

There is a multi-PC version of the Seagate Replica, we just didn't review it: http://shop.seagate.com/store/sgat [...] .125882200

All I know is that the best gift buy would be great if I wasn't worried about other luxuries such as food, clothing, & shelter.
