Now, here’s a grown-up version of a cute iPod dock. Hercules’ XPS 2.0 60 desktop stereo speaker set sells for under $100, but has design cues taken from a multi-thousand dollar speaker system that would reside comfortably in a downtown loft. These affordable speakers could add panache to a mature teenager’s room or a classy co-ed’s dorm room. Piano-black gloss covers a solid wood casing, but these are miniaturized—at only 8" tall they economize limited space on a desk. There’s no sub-woofer included (though there are tweeters), but there’s a bass port on the back of each stand that pumps up the bass power when speakers are up against a wall (which we imagine they might be in a small room). These speakers are also magnetically shielded, so don’t worry about that microwave oven sitting right next to the desk.

Adding to the high-end look are the included adjustable-length wires that connect the two speakers—these snap into the “spring connectors” at the back of the speakers. The speakers can connect through a line-in port in the back to a PC or stereo. However, there’s also an auxiliary audio input port on the side for other music-player gadgets like any MP3 player, CD player, game console, or TV. A dedicated headphone jack on the right speaker rounds out the connectivity options. Volume and sound control knobs are on the front of the right speaker, as well. Well done, you’ve graduated from a baby iPod dock to stereo speakers, kid.

No high-school school or middle school years have ended, and no quarter-system universities have finished the semester yet. Semester system universities held graduation, mostly, last week. I don't think it is too late to be thinking about graduation gifts at all.

Here are my thoughts.

On the AIO PC: It's nothing more than a laptop without a battery. Nothing can be upgraded. Consider getting a Laptop instead. On the plus side, it is stylish.

On the HP Printer (from personal experience): Every HP printer I've used have had horrible problems loading paper. Consider Lexmark or Canon.

On the Panasonic Camera: Nikon's Coolpix and Canon's Powershot can be found at similar prices and are (generally) better cameras.

I must admit though, the N10Jc looks pretty cool ;)

Hey Quantumrand,

Thanks for you advice. What if I asked for you to find me a computere under $500 with a tiny footprint (no tower) and a bigger than 17-inch screen. Would you be able to do that? That's where I think the cheapie AIOs come into play.

Better as a wrist support pad. I have 3 PC's and I can only use this one 1 of the them. Really? I have to buy 3 separate Replicas for my PC's? In this economy? No thanks

There is a multi-PC version of the Seagate Replica, we just didn't review it: http://shop.seagate.com/store/sgat [...] .125882200

All I know is that the best gift buy would be great if I wasn't worried about other luxuries such as food, clothing, & shelter.
