Google's Chrome Browser In Action

Google Chrome Web Browser (BETA)

Ben Meyer shows off the main features of the open source web browser from Google launched in beta this week. It's tab-centric design and feature set show promise, but can it compete with the Firefox 3 and IE8?

I've been trying out Chrome today, and love the improved tabbed browsing... and believe the browser is faster than Firefox 3 on my desktop with a core2duo, and 3GB of RAM, but seems to be too memory hungry on my slow ass work laptop...

Compatibility isn't perfect, but seems better than day 1 with Firefox3 for the web pages I use.

The Applications shortcut feature seems like a good idea, and while the browser doesn't have add ons yet, it has a built in task manager (shift+Esc), and each tab opens as its own process... so it seems to me that this could be a very extension friendly browser in the near future.

My only gripes are that I would have liked to still have the option to keep a search box with a nice long engine list like I have in Firefox, in addition to the new fancy address bar... and there needs to be more configuration options for power users (ex: security level exemptions).

So far, I really like Chrome. If it gets a bit more fleshed out in its options, and extensions are made for it, like Firefox... it'll be very very interesting.

Does tom's hardware load really slow for anyone else in chrome?

Also can anyone else with a snyaptics touchpad not scroll? I found a lot of other people on google with this same problem, really annoying.

I liked it alot and thought it was pretty well done and ran very well.

However their is no Ad block which irked me and it installed the google update service on my pc which runs at startup without asking me.

So nice effort but I uninstalled it because of the last part. Do not install automatic service on my pc without telling me or giving me the option to not install that piece.
